Female alleged gangster wanted in connection with gruesome human sacrifices in Mexico arrested in Texas

A woman wanted in connection with several brutal‚ gang-related murders in Mexico was recently arrested inside the United States. On February 15‚ the combined efforts of the FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force‚ the El Paso Police Gang Unit‚ County Sheriff's Narcotics Division‚ and Border Patrol resulted in victory when agents arrested Mexican fugitive Michelle Angelica Pineda‚ sometimes referred to as La Chely‚ in a motel in eastern El Paso‚ Texas. American and Mexican law enforcement officials believe that Pineda‚ a Mexican national‚ crossed the U.S. border illegally as part of a drug-trafficking ring perpetrated by the violent street gang Artistas Asesinos‚ or Artist Assassins. Inside the motel room where Pineda was arrested‚ investigators reportedly found a cache of weapons — guns‚ knives‚ and machetes — as well as drugs like Xanax‚ cocaine‚ heroin‚ and fentanyl. Pineda was immediately transported across the border and placed in the care of Chihuahua state officials. She now sits in an unidentified Mexican jail.Though her alleged leadership role among the Artistas Asesinos may sound bad enough‚ it's hardly the worst accusation against her. She and her fellow gang members also supposedly murdered five people‚ dismembered their bodies‚ and then offered some of their body parts to a Mexican folk saint known as Santa Muerte‚ or Holy Death."Pineda was known for her extreme brutality such as dismembering bodies‚ removing hearts‚ and placing the hearts in front of 'Santa Muerte' altars and statutes‚" the FBI said in a statement."Today’s deportation highlights the swift action of our agents and our significant partnerships by successfully taking a violent assassin off our streets and putting her back into the hands of Mexican law enforcement to be tried for her crimes‚" a statement from FBI El Paso Special Agent John Morales read in part. Pineda is also suspected of participating in 20 other dismemberment murders in Juarez‚ which is just across the border from El Paso. One Mexican newspaper‚ El Heraldo de Juárez‚ reported that her alleged history of violence dates all the way back to when she was just 13 years old‚ describing her as a "young woman who grew up surrounded by violence."Many Catholic leaders in the U.S. and Mexico have denounced Santa Muerte‚ a skeletal figure often associated with drug cartels‚ as‚ at best‚ "spiritually dangerous‚" and‚ at worst‚ demonic. Prayers to Santa Muerte "should be completely avoided‚" Bishop Michael Sis of the Diocese of San Angelo‚ Texas‚ said in 2017. "It is a perversion of devotion to the saints."Like Blaze News? North Carolina mother charged in death of her infant — who died the same way her previous baby did a year earlier

Police have charged a 24-year-old North Carolina woman in connection to the death of her newborn baby — apparently‚ the second infant to have perished under her watch and weight inside a two-year window. The Wilmington Police Department indicated that officers responded in the early hours of Oct. 3‚ 2023‚ to the 800 block of Castle Street following a report of an unconscious baby who had stopped breathing. First responders were reportedly unable to revive the 7-week-old child‚ whose name was Zhen. Investigators discovered that Mackenzie Katlyn Reed had been sleeping next to Zhen "and during the night she suffocated her child." The Wilmington StarNews reported that the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Zhen's cause of death as "asphyxia due to unsafe sleep environment." The common cold was listed as an additional factor. According an investigative report obtained by StarNews‚ the boy had been sleeping in a queen size bed with both parents and his twin. The autopsy indicated he was ultimately found "prone ... with (his) face in (a) blanket‚" and had suffered "petechial hemorrhages of epicardium‚ pleural surfaces‚ diaphragm and thymus" with swelling in his brain and lungs. The mother had allegedly been "smoking THC and using THC gummies during the [previous] day and evening." The investigator's report indicated Reed fell asleep after feeding the child around midnight. Zhen had been on her left side at the time. When the father awoke to find the child‚ he was on Reed's right side. According to the police report‚ the mother said "she could not believe that 'she had done this a second time‚'" referencing the death of her 3-month-old baby boy in 2022. Police indicated Reed "had another child who died that she had been co-sleeping with as well." A spokesman for the New Hanover County District Attorney's Office told WECT-TV that Reed was not charged for the baby's death in 2022 "because it was determined there was not enough evidence to prosecute." Following Zhen's death in October‚ police launched an investigation. The WPD finally obtained warrants for Reed's arrest on March 6 then took her into custody. Reed has been charged with felony child abuse resulting in serious injury; involuntary manslaughter; and child abuse/neglect resulting in serious physical injury. "These charges come as a result of an in-depth investigation and hard work by the Wilmington Police Department Special Victims Unit in conjunction with the New Hanover County District Attorney’s Office‚" the WPD stated in a release. As of last week‚ Reed was being held under a $500‚000 secured bond. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics‚ roughly 3‚500 infants die every year from sleep-related infant deaths‚ including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)‚ ill-defined deaths‚ and accidental suffocation and strangulation. The AAP recommends "a safe sleep environment to reduce the risk of all sleep-related deaths. This includes supine positioning; use of a firm noninclined sleep surface; room sharing without bed sharing; and avoidance of soft bedding and overheating." In addition to cautioning against bed sharing‚ the AAP suggests SIDS risk can be lowered by parents avoiding exposure to nicotine‚ alcohol‚ marijuana‚ opioids‚ and illicit drugs. The AAP noted further that studies have shown bed sharing exposes children to various risk factors for SIDS as well as "to additional risks for unintentional injury and death‚ such as suffocation‚ asphyxia‚ entrapment‚ falls‚ and strangulation. Infants younger than 4 months and those born preterm and/or with low birth weight are at highest risk." Pediatrician Heidi Szugye told the Cleveland Clinic that the risk of a sleep-related infant death while bed sharing is five to 10 times higher in the early stages of life. "Bed sharing is connected to SIDS. There's no question about it‚" said Szugye. "We don't recommend it for babies of any age." Like Blaze News? DEBATE: Should a Christian wear THIS popular Easter shirt?

With Easter just a few weeks away‚ Christian-themed merchandise is all over social media. One such item is this popular T-shirt‚ which cleverly references the resurrection of Jesus Christ: No doubt it’s a witty way to fuse the Christian faith and pop culture‚ but is it morally sound for a Christian to wear such a statement? “I made the decision after thinking about it that there's enough of a gray area there‚” so “I backed off‚” says Steve Deace. Aaron McIntire‚ however‚ isn’t so sure it’s acceptable. “The sunglasses are kind of what does it for me‚” he says. “Jesus is not a guy boss who just wears sunglasses. Jesus isn't even a bada**. He's the King of kings and Lord of lords.” “This shirt is taking Christ’s name in vain by not showing you the totality of what he is‚ what he did‚ what he is doing‚ and what he will do‚” he explains‚ citing the Second Commandment‚ which states‚ “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image‚ or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above.” “In the early years of cinema‚ they would not actually show Jesus on film” because filmmakers thought it would “violate that commandment‚” says Steve‚ “so is any depiction of Christ a violation of that commandment?” According to Aaron‚ it’s all about the “motivation” behind the product — whether that product be a T-shirt or Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.” “The motivation in ‘The Passion’ was to show and shove down your throat what our Savior went through on the cross‚” he says‚ while the kitschy T-shirt does not. “Until I know whose feet the person wearing this T-shirt will wash‚ I reserve judgment‚” adds Todd Erzen. To hear more of the conversation‚ watch the clip below. Community rallies around local butcher shop sued for 'nuisance' after resident complains of meat-cooking smells

An east Nashville woman is suing a local butcher shop after she said it has become a "nuisance" for producing odors from cooking‚ ash‚ charred wood‚ and more. The business is Roy's Meat Services‚ which opened in 2015 and serves as a "convenience store‚ butcher shop‚ restaurant‚ and community gathering" spot‚ according to a fundraiser for the business' legal fees.Natalie Castillo‚ on the other hand‚ bought the property next to the butcher shop in 2021‚ according to WKRN‚ and said the property has become bothersome by conducting meat-related activities and even encroaching on her property.Castillo claimed in a 2023 lawsuit that the business had built a shed and a concrete pad that crossed onto her property by more than a foot-and-a-half. On the concrete pad‚ Castillo alleges‚ is where "ash‚ charred wood and cigarette ends" fall on her property when meat is cooked. The plaintiff also complained that meat smoking has caused debris and smoke to waft inside her home‚ with attorneys stating that she has had to "intensify her asthma regimen due to the constant smoke exposure." A lady named Natalie Castillo moved in next to a butcher that’s been in Nashville for more than a decade and now she’s suing them because the smell of meat bothers her. Lawfare against Roy’s Meat has included 46 complaints. They’ve spent 20k in legal fees already. Their legal… — (@) As WZTV Nashville reported‚ a GoFundMe campaign was started for the butcher shop to assist with legal fees that Roy's says has already surpassed $20‚000."Roy Meat Service’s new neighbor expressed belief that RMS is a 'nuisance‚' with the smell of meat cooking‚" the fundraiser described. It continued that there have been 46 complaints filed against the business to city and state agencies about alleged property code violations. The complaints included "concerns" about the establishment's fencing‚ lighting‚ and junk that is stored on the property."Roy Meat Service has shown us what it means to be a pillar in your community. Now it is time to show our appreciation for all they have contributed over the years‚" the fundraiser added.Despite Castillo's claim that she cannot open her windows or do anything outside on her property for eight to 10 hour periods due to the smoke‚ the community has rallied around Roy's and encouraged others to help."I think it’s very unfair to them to have to do that. You know they’ve had this business. They do things for the community and for people to just come in and put them through that is just wrong‚" said longtime customer Janice McCormick."My heart’s out for them. I mean that’s probably a lot of stress‚ emotional and financial‚ so I fully support them and what they’re doing‚" added local small business owner Laura Lemon. The butcher's owner‚ Jeff Roy‚ declined interviews and comments due to the pending lawsuit; Castillo's lawyers have also not returned requests for comment from Fox 17.At the time of this writing‚ the fundraiser has garnered over $32‚000 in donations.Like Blaze News? NYC immigrants decline free‚ taxpayer-funded plane‚ bus tickets to relocate despite city's lack of shelter space

A vast majority of immigrants residing in New York City are declining to relocate despite being offered free‚ taxpayer-funded plane and bus tickets‚ the Gothamist reported based on recently released data. The city began restricting shelter stays for immigrant adults to 30 days in September. Those who have reached the city's stay limit are directed to a reticketing center‚ where they can opt to reapply for a shelter space or receive a free ticket to skip town. The Gothamist reported that only 2% of those offered a plane or bus ticket chose to relocate. The line at St. Brigid's‚ one of the city's reticketing sites‚ is often wrapped around the building‚ and only about 15% of the 1‚600 migrants who arrive at the center each day are able to secure shelter space for the evening. Between 800 and 2‚800 migrants who go to St. Brigid's daily are repeat visitors who could not obtain accommodations during their previous visit.According to the data reviewed by the news outlet‚ 80% of immigrants are being turned away by the city's maxed-out shelter system. Immigrants who are unable to secure shelter space are placed on a waiting list.Joshua Goldfein‚ a staff attorney with the nonprofit Legal Aid Society‚ told the Gothamist that the city should provide the migrants with "real case management so they can get what they need to move on.""Using an arbitrary deadline for people to have to leave shelter is disruptive and counterproductive‚" Goldfein contended.Kayla Mamelak‚ a spokesperson for New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams‚ told the news outlet‚ "We're laser-focused on using intensive case management‚ reticketing‚ and legal support to help more people move out of shelter as they desire more self-sufficient lives.""While we are grateful for the assistance we have received thus far from our federal partners‚ we need more‚" she added.According to Mamelak‚ of the 30 people per day who opt for the free‚ taxpayer-funded ticket to leave the city‚ their top destinations include other parts of New York‚ Illinois‚ Texas‚ Florida‚ Colorado‚ Minnesota‚ Georgia‚ Virginia‚ North Carolina‚ and Pennsylvania. Mamelak stated that 60% of immigrants — roughly 113‚000 — have left the city's shelter system and "taken the next steps in their journeys."She told the New York Post that the city needs the Biden administration to "finish the job they started by providing more asylum seekers with expedited work authorization‚ sending additional financial support to New York City‚ and implementing a comprehensive decompression and resettlement strategy."Recently released city hall data revealed that the Adams administration is spending approximately $387 per day per immigrant‚ the Post reported.A spokesperson for Adams told the news outlet‚ "In the last two months‚ Mayor Adams has laid out plans to save billions of taxpayer dollars as New York City manages a national humanitarian crisis‚ and the numbers show that our efforts are working." "We expect to save $2.3 billion by next summer‚" the spokesperson added.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Wednesday Western: 'Slow West' (2015)

Wednesday Western: 'Slow West' (2015)

'Slow West' (2015)When you watch a Western‚ you have to slow down. You’ve got to pause all loyalty to the modern world. For an hour or two‚ detach from the stream of nonstop information and total connectivity. You have to imagine an environment without the constant racket of modern life. A sky without planes‚ roads without asphalt‚ hills without electric poles‚ and none of the noise so ubiquitous we barely even notice it. This turns out to be quite therapeutic. The spectacle of our time — the drudgery — evaporates. Gun smoke fills the air as you’re transported into the torrid climes of some unknown desert‚ or the tranquil silence of an unbothered lake‚ or the smothering heat of a stagecoach flanked by outlaws. You won’t find much discussion about nonbinary pronouns among people who could die at any moment from what we call a tummy bug. It was a simpler time‚ but that’s no ode to simplicity. The bareness of everyday servitude left people with no other choice. So‚ what you often see onscreen is a kind of submission. Get strong or turn sour. Guided by 'drift'Filmed primarily in New Zealand‚ "Slow West" brims with subtle artistry designed to slow you down. It’s a movie guided by drift‚ to use a word favored by one of the protagonists.Which is not to say it's boring. "Slow West" is heavily layered‚ with a postmodern approach to chronology familiar from films like "Memento" and "Pulp Fiction." But "Slow West" prioritizes beauty in a way those films don't‚ filling each frame with exquisitely shot visions of nature. "Slow West" is a creative and daring love story full of angels and demons and death and magic. It captures the outlaw circuit of the Old West‚ the fringes of society‚ told with a hint of magical realism. That last quality is evident from the first scene‚ as young Jay Cavendish (Kodi Smit-McPhee) shoots the constellations into a wink — followed later by poetic rambles about a future with railroads to the moon.We also get sense of the mythic. The opening narration sets the scene as if telling of a long-ago legend: “Once upon a time‚ 1870 to be exact‚ a 16-year-old kid traveled from the cold shoulder of Scotland to the baking heart of America to find his love. His name was Jay. Her name was Rose.”The literary artistry and playfulness of the word choice (“the cold shoulder of Scotland to the baking heart of America”) places you in an elevated realm from the start. That little opening story is about as Western as it gets. But‚ like most brilliant Westerns‚ "Slow West" is far more than its genre trappings. At times‚ it’s downright psychedelic. But in a newer‚ sharper way than‚ say‚ Jim Jarmusch’s acid Western "Dead Man‚" which I’ll examine in the near future. Every sensory channel is heightened to a point of joyful tension. The haunted and the hyperrealThis incredibly visceral film is deeply abstract‚ almost to the point of surreality. Better to call it hyperreality. Which is part of what you gain from contemporary Westerns: a sharper‚ deeper‚ bloodier‚ louder‚ and uglier reimagining of the West.Compare the special effects of a film like "Big Jake" to the unflinching brutality of "Slow West." In "Big Jake‚" when a person gets shot‚ they spring sideways with a yelp while gripping a neon red paint smear; in "Slow West‚" the murder is a harrowing gut punch in 4K.It’s also a disturbing film. Haunted. Like there’s a ghost in the room. A world full of ghosts.Things‚ and people‚ just appear. Like Payne‚ an eccentric villain with roots in Richard Boone or Lee Van Cleef. Or his foil‚ Jay’s mysterious travel companion Silas Selleck‚ played by the gifted Michael Fassbender.Silas leads Jay through the desert. His intentions are unclear‚ then clear‚ then fuzzy‚ then unclear again‚ then broken wide open. Although we're never certain whether he’s following or leading‚ there's no doubt he is intimately acquainted with the land‚ allowing him to play Virgil to Smit-McPhee's Dante. This is made most explicit when the duo find themselves at the edge of a wooded darkness‚ about to enter a forest some call "Silver Ghost." “Legend has it‚ folks go in‚ they don’t come out‚" Silas tells Jay‚ who eventually winds up with at least one of Christ's five wounds. But are there any men of God in this movie? There's always a risk that this kind of spare mysticism will devolve into pretentious hokum. But somehow "Slow West" pulls it off. The movie is aware of itself as a Hollywood Western without undercutting the primal power of its images. Midway through "Slow West‚" villains and hostages alike gather around a campfire to debate the merits of outlaw renown. They’re the most famous nonparticipants of society. The greatest lava swimmers in hell. The setting is a world where Satan actually defeated Christ. A wasteland of hatred and murder. But with occasional glimpses of light‚ like Silas’ beautiful dream of marital bliss in a tiny house — a house later recalled in a strangely phrased command by antagonist Payne (Ben Mendelsohn): “Kill that house!”Angels and devilsThe human drama is ancient. Desire. Deception. Frenzy. Greed. Murder. But "Slow West" also evinces the literary power of relationships in Westerns. "Slow West" reveals the philosophical depths of love and its potential within art. This is no small task: using one of the manliest film genres to poetically explore the most tender human reality.Fragments of both Jay and Silas' innermost thoughts illuminate the duo's tense and fragile partnership‚ in voiceover that evokes the poetic narration of "The Thin Red Line":“There were few of us left. Men beyond the law. But the most dangerous are the last to fall.”It’s artsy‚ even academic‚ but also funny.Take the exchange between Jay and Silas upon encountering an ax-wielding skeleton trapped under a fallen tree. “Charles Darwin talks of evolution by natural selection.” “For our sake‚ let’s hope he’s wrong.” But the hostility of the frontier never fully vanishes. The Darwinism conversation continues as Silas shaves Jay's meagre whiskers with a buck knife while offering some sinister musings: “Survival ain’t just ‘how to skin a jackrabbit.’ It’s knowing when to bluster and when to hush. When to take a beating and when to strike.”Then there’s Werner (Andrew Robertt)‚ the German sociologist who inexplicably appears in a barren field‚ charting “the decline of aboriginal tribes in the hope of preventing their extinction or conversion to Christianity.” (Ha ha.)Werner is a truly wonderful character. He’s funny. Charming‚ kind‚ witty. Multi-faceted. Yet‚ mystical ... and an atheist? While he seems like a joyful blessing‚ he could just as easily be a fallen angel‚ something cursed. Does his acceptance mask expedient relativism? Or is he a Christlike redeemer‚ whose nonjudgmental approach is a gesture of grace? Is he earnest or mischievous? I’m not being poetic with the language here‚ either. This is the story of a fallen angel and a rising devil‚ trapped in an endless dream of hell. Werner’s appearance cements "Slow West" as a philosophical masterpiece‚ finding eternal truths in its short running time. As Werner observes‚ “In a short time‚ this will be a long time ago.”“Slow West” is currently available on all the usual streamers.

Hunter Biden pulls bait and switch after House Republicans call his bluff: 'The American people demand the truth'

Hunter Biden is now refusing to appear at a public congressional hearing focusing on allegations of Biden family corruption.Last November‚ House Republicans subpoenaed the first son to testify at a December hearing. But Hunter infamously defied the subpoena‚ telling lawmakers he would testify only at a public hearing — not a closed-door deposition. But when lawmakers initiated contempt proceedings against him‚ Hunter changed his tune‚ and‚ last month‚ he testified for more than six hours at a closed-door deposition. Now — despite repeated promises to attend a public hearing — Hunter's attorney Abbe Lowell says the first son will not attend next week's public hearing alongside his former business associates."Mr. Biden declines your invitation to this carnival side show‚" Lowell told House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.).The attorney responded in a three-page letter that repeatedly mocked Comer's investigation and argued the impeachment inquiry is not a "legitimate exercise of congressional authority.""Your blatant planned-for-media event is not a proper proceeding but an obvious attempt to throw a Hail Mary pass after the game has ended‚" Lowell wrote. In reality‚ Lowell's response is a so-called "planned-for-media event‚" having reportedly been leaked to the media before it was sent to Comer. Lowell's mockery of Comer‚ meanwhile‚ is all bark and no bite‚ relying on fluffy rhetoric without substance to try to delegitimize Comer's investigation by having the media disseminate his childish insults. For his part‚ Comer responded to the letter in stride‚ noting that his committee "has called Hunter Biden's bluff.""Hunter Biden for months stated he wanted a public hearing‚ but now that one has been offered alongside his business associates that he worked with for years‚ he is refusing to come‚" Comer said.Perhaps the reason Hunter now refuses to testify publicly‚ Comer suggested‚ is because his testimony includes alleged contradictions.Comer explained:During our deposition and interview phase of our investigation‚ Hunter Biden confirmed key evidence‚ including evidence that his father‚ President Joe Biden‚ lied to the American people about his family’s business dealings and in fact attended meetings‚ spoke on speakerphone‚ and had coffee with his foreign business associates who collectively funneled millions to the Bidens. However‚ parts of Hunter Biden’s testimony contradict the testimonies of Devon Archer‚ Jason Galanis‚ and Tony Bobulinski. Whether or not Hunter attends‚ Comer said the hearing on March 20 is moving forward."The American people demand the truth and accountability for the Bidens' corruption‚" Comer said.Like Blaze News? ‘Sound of Freedom’ producer just released ‘Cabrini’ — and it gets feminism RIGHT

If you want to see how far Hollywood cinema has fallen‚ look no farther than Alejandro Monteverde’s “Cabrini‚” which Glenn Beck calls “one of the most beautiful films [he’s] ever seen.” Glenn is joined by Monteverde to discuss his inspiration for the film and why he thinks a story over 100 years old is incredibly relevant today. “Cabrini” is the true story of an Italian Catholic immigrant named Francesca Cabrini after she arrived in New York City in the year 1889. In a world that offered few opportunities to women — and especially immigrants — Cabrini set out to convince the mayor to provide housing and health care for society’s most vulnerable. It’s a story of real feminine power — not the toxic‚ leftist version Hollywood loves to push. “It just captures a mood like I've only seen in ‘The Godfather‚’” says Glenn‚ who says the film has his “highest‚ highest recommendation.” “[Francesca Cabrini] was a warrior‚” says Monteverde. “She came here to America in the late 1800s as an immigrant — a woman with nothing‚" but she had "a dream" and "a big mission to build hospitals and help those in need.” By the end of her life‚ she had “built an empire as big as any Rockefeller or Vanderbilt.” But her path was far from easy. “When she arrived‚ she faced a lot of racism against Italians and discrimination‚” Monteverde tells Glenn‚ “but that's the beauty of this country — that did not stop her from building one of the greatest hospitals that New York has ever seen.” Cabrini also faced personal battles. “They told her that she had two to three years to live‚ and she kept fighting and fighting‚” and this unshakeable faith ultimately gave her “decades of life‚” says Monteverde. Whether it was sickness‚ discrimination‚ or opposition‚ Cabrini did not let anything stop her from succeeding. “She was able to build bridges” and “work with people that disagreed with her‚” Monteverde explains. “It's so relevant with America because right now‚ we're in such a divided country‚ [and] we should be able to work together even though we're divided.” To hear more about a film inspired by true feminism‚ perseverance‚ hope‚ and Batman (yes — Batman)‚ watch the clip below. Editor's note: Angel Studios‚ which made "Cabrini‚" is a Blaze Media advertiser.Want more from Glenn Beck?To enjoy more of Glenn’s masterful storytelling‚ thought-provoking analysis‚ and uncanny ability to make sense of the chaos‚ subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America‚ defend the Constitution‚ and live the American dream.

Cities Skylines 2 meets Ghost of Tsushima in newly updated Steam game

If there's anything audiences love more than building and managing cities‚ it's doing so in historical settings. From Romans: Age of Caesar and the earlier stages of Tropico 6 through to classics like Stronghold‚ Pharaoh‚ and Caesar 3‚ experiencing the past by trying to successfully recreate bygone cities and towns is always an enticing prospect. Sengoku Dynasty fits neatly into this genre‚ tasking players with creating and taking care of villages in a fictionalized feudal Japan‚ and‚ with its latest major update‚ the Early Access game is in its best shape to date.
