How California’s Paradise Became Our Purgatory

How California’s Paradise Became Our Purgatory

California has become a test case of the suicide of the West. Never before has such a state, so rich in natural resources and endowed with such a bountiful human inheritance, self-destructed so rapidly. How and why did California so utterly consume its unmatched natural and ancestral inheritance and end up as a warning to Western civilization of what might be in store for anyone who followed its nihilism? The symptoms of the state’s suicide are indisputable.Gov. Gavin Newsom enjoyed a recent $98 billion budget surplus—gifted from multibillion-dollar federal COVID-19 subsidies, the highest income and gas taxes in the nation, and among the country’s steepest sales and property taxes.Yet in a year, the Democrat turned it into a growing $45 billion budget deficit. At a time of an overregulated, overtaxed, and sputtering economy, Newsom spent lavishly on new entitlements, illegal immigrants, and untried and inefficient green projects.Newsom was endowed with two of the wettest years in recent California history. Yet he and radical environmentalists squandered the water bounty—as snowmelts and runoff long designated for agricultural irrigation were drained from aqueducts and reservoirs to flow out to sea.Newsom transferred millions of dollars designated by a voter referendum to build dams and aqueducts for water storage and instead blew up four historic dams on the Klamath River. For decades, these now-destroyed scenic lakes provided clean, green hydroelectric power, irrigation storage, flood control, and recreation.California hosts one-third of the nation’s welfare recipients. Over a fifth of the population lives below the poverty line. Nearly half the nation’s homeless sleep on the streets of its major cities. The state’s downtowns are dirty, dangerous, and increasingly abandoned by businesses—most recently Google—that cannot rely on a defunded and shackled police.Newsom’s California has spent billions on homeless relief and subsidizing millions of new illegal migrant arrivals across the state’s porous southern border. The result was predictably even more homeless and more illegal immigrants, all front-loaded onto the state’s already overtaxed and broken health care, housing, and welfare entitlements.Newsom raised the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $22 an hour. The result was wage inflation rippling out to all service areas, unaffordable food for the poor, and massive shutdowns and bankruptcies of fast-food outlets. Fully 27% of Californians were born outside the United States. It is a minority-majority state. Yet California long ago dropped unifying civic education, while the bankrupt state funds exploratory commissions to consider divisive racial reparations.California’s universities are hotbeds of ethnic, religious, and racial chauvinism and infighting. State officials, however, did little as its campuses were plagued for months by rampant and violent antisemitism.Almost nightly, the nation watches mass smash-and-grab attacks on California retail stores. Carjackers and thieves own the night. They are rarely caught, even more rarely arrested—and almost never convicted.Currently, Newsom is fighting in the courts to stop the people’s constitutional right to place on the ballot initiatives that would restore penalties for violent crime and theft.Gas prices are the highest in the continental United States (given green mandate formulas and the nation’s highest, and still rising, gasoline taxes) and are scheduled to go well over $6 a gallon.Yet California’s ossified roads and highways are among the nation’s most dangerous, as vast sums of transportation funding were siphoned off to the multibillion-dollar high-speed rail boondoggle. The state imports almost all the costly vitals of modern life, mostly because it prohibits using California’s own vast petroleum, natural gas, timber, and mineral resources. As California implodes, its embarrassed government turns to the irrelevant, if not ludicrous. It now outlaws natural gas stoves in new homes. It is adding new income-based surcharges for those who dutifully pay their power bills—to help subsidize the 2.5 million Californians who simply default on their energy bill with impunity. What happened to the once-beautiful California paradise?Millions of productive but frustrated, overtaxed, and underserved middle-class residents have fled in disgust to low-crime, low-tax, and well-served red states. In turn, millions of illegal migrants have swarmed the state, given its sanctuary-city policies, refusal to enforce the law, and generous entitlements.Meanwhile, a tiny coastal elite, empowered by $9 trillion in Silicon Valley market capitalization, fiddled while their state burned.California became a medieval society of plutocratic barons, subsidized peasants, and a shrinking and fleeing middle class. It is now home to a few rich estates, subsidized apartments, and unaffordable middle-class houses.California suffers from poorly ranked public schools, but brags about its prestigious private academies. Its highways are lethal, but it hosts the most private jets in the nation. The fantasies of a protected enclave of Gavin Newsom, Nancy Pelosi, and the masters of the Silicon Valley universe have become the abject nightmares of everyone else.In sum, a privileged Bay Area elite inherited a California paradise and turned it into purgatory. Shocker: Even Andrew Cuomo Is Blasting Bragg's Anti-Trump Witch Hunt, 'Talk About a Threat to Democracy'

On rare occasions when liberal Democrats make principled comments, their fellow liberals can do little more than squirm. In an appearance Friday on HBO’s "Real Time with Bill Maher," Andrew Cuomo, the former Democratic governor of New York, warned that an overwhelming majority of New Yorkers rightly regard former President...

The Dead Daisies | June 20, 2024 | Whisky A Go Go | Hollywood, CA – Concert Review & Photo Gallery

Review by JoJo Anthony Photos by Joe Schaeffer The Dead Daisies returned to Southern California to perform for a sold-out crowd at The Whisky and once again brought the energy for the enthusiastic audience. I have to admit I was taken aback to see that many people at the venue on a Thursday night. Nevertheless, The Dead Daisies put on one hell of a show. Formed over a decade ago in Sydney, Australia by guitarist David Lowy, the band has featured some of the best talent in rock with the likes of Glenn Hughes, Deen Castronovo, and Marco Mendoza. The current lineup features Lowy, vocalist John Corabi (The Scream, Mötley Crüe), guitarist Doug Aldrich (Dio, Whitesnake), drummer Tommy Clufetos (Black Sabbath), and bassist Michael Devin (Whitesnake). Opening the set with “Light ‘Em Up” from the forthcoming album of the same name, I was really impressed with how good they immediately sounded. The Whisky has always been a place where I’m seldom happy with the sound, but the Daisies were spot on. With songs like “Dead and Gone” from the 2018’s Burn It Down, the band has the ability to write some anthem rockers to fire up a crowd. This was evident on the title track from their 2016 album Make Some Noise. They were not reluctant to perform new material like “I Wanna Be Your Bitch.” They performed “Unspoken” and “Bustle And Flow,” which were originally recorded with Glenn Hughes on vocals. Corabi did an excellent job on those songs. This guy has always been a vocalist that I really admire. Hell, I’d listen to Corabi read the lunch specials menu at a Denny’s Restaurant…he’s just that damn good. Kudos to the band for having one of the best introductions for the individual members ever. I loved that they incorporated snippets from some of the best classic rock songs. Aldrich is one of those players with a just a great rock and blues feel. He plays for the songs and never oversteps his boundaries. He’s just a solid player. Their cover of the Muddy Waters classic “I’m Ready” had all the energy of the Humble Pie version from the album Performance: Rockin’ The Fillmore. You can never go wrong with beefing up a blues standard. The choice of cover songs was perfect for the flow of the show. “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival had all the energy and angst of the original. The one song I’ve always loved to hear from The Dead Daisies is their cover of “Midnight Moses” by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. This always hits me in the sentimental gut because The Sensational Alex Harvey Band was the first show I ever saw at the Roxy in Hollywood. I was an underage teenage brat who snuck into the venue to see this fantastic band back in 1975. This was one powerful way to close the set. Returning for an encore that featured “Long Way to Go,” and a powerful rendition of the Beatles classic “Helter Skelter,” and the show ended a high note. The Dead Daisies are one of those bands that feature some amazing veteran musicians who just are so seasoned that every song they perform is nothing short of fantastic. I’ve always enjoyed this band every time I’ve seen them live. Look for their upcoming album Light ‘Em Up to be released this coming September. You won’t be disappointed.

Missing Hiker Stranded For 10 Days In Santa Cruz Mountains Is Finally Found

Lukas McClish and his family are no strangers to hiking. Living in California, they’ve done so together, and individually, countless times. That’s why, when Lukas didn’t come home after a three-hour hike on June 11, his family was surprised. Once he didn’t show up for Father’s Day dinner, his family officially reported the Santa Cruz hiker to be missing. This prompted a number of local first responders to gather in search of Lukas. Still, after 10 days of searching the area, this 34-year-old hiker could not be found. As is the case with any missing person, they had reached a point where time was running out. Thankfully, that’s exactly when a miracle happened. As Lukas screamed out for help around Foreman Creek off of Big Basin Highway, folks just so happened to hear him. In turn, first responders were finally able to locate him! “We utilized several of our drones to help determine Lukas’ exact location,” the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office says in a social media post. “State Parks rangers were first on scene with Lukas, and fire crews were able to assist in bringing him to safety. Lukas had no major injuries and was reunited with his family.” Santa Cruz Hiker Missing For 10 Days Finally Reunites With His Family Facebook Surviving alone while lost in the woods is no easy feat. This is especially true since the only things Lukas had with him were a pair of pants, hiking boots, a hat, flashlight, and folding scissors. So, how did he make it, exactly? According to Lukas, drinking water greatly aided in his survival. “I just made sure I drank a gallon of water every day,” Lukas explains before adding, “but then after, getting close to the end of it, my body needed food and some kind of sustenance.” In other words, it’s clear that the help Lukas so desperately needed arrived just in the nick of time. “Thank you to each agency and our dispatch for helping relay all of the information to necessary departments,” the sheriff’s office continues in their post. “This truly was a team effort with the best outcome we could have hoped for.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here!
