A Prayer to Be a Humble Servant – Your Daily Prayer – March 5

A Prayer to Be a Humble ServantBy Christine Perry  “Who‚ being in very nature God‚ did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather‚ he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant‚ being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man‚ he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death- even death on a cross!” – Philippians 2:6-8 NIV  The older you get‚ the more people you know and the more opportunities to have disagreements and to make mistakes. In light of this‚ there are also more opportunities to show humility and regard others’ needs as better than your own. Humility is a mind that is set on Christ with submission to the will of God. When we bow in submission to the Lord‚ He will come to our rescue. James 4:6-10 says: “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’ Submit yourselves‚ then‚ to God. Resist the devil‚ and he will flee from you. Come near to God‚ and he will come near to you. Wash your hands‚ you sinners‚ and purify your hearts‚ you double-minded. Grieve‚ mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord‚ and he will lift you up.” As humans‚ we crave control. We want to see how our actions bring about good results. But when you submit‚ you relinquish control‚ outcomes‚ and choices. It’s difficult. But God can see the whole picture. He knows what we need when we need it and why we need it. It’s our job to submit to whatever He wants to do in our life. Oftentimes‚ God will teach us humility through trials. He sovereignly places us where we need to be. David said in Psalm 119:71‚ “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.” Look at Job‚ in chapter 42‚ verses 1-6‚ after all his trials‚ and after God speaks to him‚ the Bible says: "Then Job replied to the LORD:I know that you can do all things;no purpose of yours can be thwarted. You asked‚ ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’Surely‚ I spoke of things I did not understand‚ things too wonderful for me to know.‘You said‚ ‘Listen now‚ and I will speak;I will question you‚and you shall answer me.’My ears had heard of youbut now my eyes have seen you. Therefore‚ I despise myselfand repent in dust and ashes.” David and Job were human‚ and we are human‚ so we expect trials. But what if I told you that Jesus‚ who was perfect‚ also learned obedience through what he suffered (Hebrews 5:8)? Jesus’ posture was that of a servant. He willingly placed Himself under His Father’s will. When the Father said wait‚ Jesus waited. When the Father said to act‚ He acted. When He needed to pray‚ He prayed all night. Whatever His Father wanted Him to do‚ He did it.  Jesus is always our ultimate example. We will never be perfect‚ and we won’t always get things right‚ but we have a mentor and friend from whom we can learn. Psalm 25:9 says‚ “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.”  Let’s pray: Dear Lord‚You are exactly that - Lord. You’re the Potter‚ and we are the clay. Father‚ we ask that You help us have hearts that obey You. We are so inadequate. We are so riddled and saturated with our sin. Lord‚ we are sorry‚ and we need You. We ask that we would decrease and You would increase. We lay aside our wants‚ agendas‚ schedules‚ and plans. We ask that You would place in our hands what You want there‚ and we ask that You would remove what You don’t want. Lord‚ help us to trust You. You’re good. You have our very best in mind‚ and You love us more than anyone else ever could. We need You. Thank You for hearing us. We love You. Please help us to love and serve You better. We are yours to do with us as You please. In Jesus’ name‚ amen. How to Avoid the Trap of Destructive Anger – Senior Living – March 5

How to Avoid the Trap of Destructive Anger March 3 A gentle answer turns away wrath‚ but a harsh word stirs up anger. – Proverbs 15:1 In the spring of 1894‚ the Baltimore Orioles came to Boston to play a routine baseball game. At one point during the game‚ the Orioles' John McGraw got into a fight with the Boston third baseman. In just a few minutes‚ both teams had emptied their dugouts and joined the brawl. The fight quickly spread to the grandstands. In a rage‚ someone set fire to the stands and the entire ballpark burned to the ground. Not only that‚ but the fire spread to 107 other surrounding buildings as well. The spread of that fire tells us quite a bit about the spread of anger. From one or two people‚ a storm of anger can be ignited that spreads like wildfire to others. But in most cases‚ this firestorm of anger could've been stopped if the first person would've simply dealt with his anger in a healthy way. Tempers often flare within families‚ in places of work‚ and among friends. But with the power of Christ in you‚ you can deal with your anger constructively and keep the situation calm. So when you feel tempted to burst out in anger‚ take a breath and ask God how He wants you to react. You'll find dealing with anger well will build healthier and happier relationships with others! Prayer Challenge Pray and ask God to give you discernment on how to react when you feel angry. Questions for Thought Why do you think the emotion of anger spreads so quickly when it's expressed inappropriately? Can you think of a time when anger caused you to overreact? How could you have better dealt with your anger in that situation. Blessed‚ Then Broken‚ Then Blessed Again –  Encouragement for Today – March 5‚ 2024

March 5‚ 2024 Blessed‚ Then Broken‚ Then Blessed AgainDR. JOEL MUDDAMALLE  Lee en español "As they were eating‚ Jesus took bread‚ blessed and broke it‚ gave it to the disciples‚ and said‚ ‘Take and eat it; this is my body.'" Matthew 26:26 (CSB)  In Matthew 26‚ Jesus had His last meal with the disciples before He went to the cross. While I've read this passage many times‚ something new recently stood out. "As they were eating‚ Jesus took bread‚ blessed and broke it‚ gave it to the disciples‚ and said‚ ‘Take and eat it; this is my body'" (Matthew 26:26‚ emphasis added). First‚ Jesus took the bread‚ then He blessed it‚ and then He broke it. I thought to myself ... Why would He not take the bread‚ break it and then bless it? There is a purpose to the order. The blessing comes before the breaking because this was the cadence of Jesus' life: Jesus was blessed by the Father and the Spirit during His baptism (Matthew 3:16-17). Jesus endured the epitome of brokenness on the cross (Luke 23:26-39). Jesus conquered death through His resurrection and then ascended to the right hand of the Father. This is the greatest blessing for believers because we are united with Christ and restored to God (Ephesians 1:20; Ephesians 2:4-6). Blessed‚ then broken‚ then blessed again. Maybe you're in a season where you feel more broken than blessed. I understand. But because God has blessed us with His Son‚ every ounce of brokenness we experience on this side of eternity is pointing us toward the blessing of heaven‚ where we will be reunited with Christ if we trust in Him. God also redeems our current brokenness as a means of blessing others who are also broken (2 Corinthians 1:4). We can know with confidence that though we endure brokenness and pain‚ there isn't an ounce of our brokenness that is not under the blessing of God. This is a hard truth to grasp. It may even be something we want to reject because it feels unfair or even cruel. I agree that it can feel that way. Even Jesus Himself agrees. Just a few verses after the Last Supper‚ He prayed in the garden of Gethsemane and cried out‚ "I am deeply grieved to the point of death" (Matthew 26:38a‚ CSB). We don't have to dismiss our feelings when it comes to our brokenness. Even Jesus felt the full extent of His emotions before His most broken moment. We can come before God in humility with our raw‚ honest emotions. We can bring our brokenness to Him. We can trust that Jesus is with us now. And we can look to the cross and the empty tomb‚ knowing that though we experience brokenness‚ Jesus overcame it. Brokenness isn't the end for us. Blessed‚ then broken‚ then blessed again. Lord‚ give us the grace to endure this reality. Dear Lord‚ sometimes I feel overwhelmed by how painful earthly brokenness can feel. Please help me remember that Jesus is my greatest blessing. He is with me now as I face hardship and await a day when You will make all things new. Give me strength as I long for this day. In Jesus' Name‚ Amen. OUR FAVORITE THINGS No matter who you are‚ where you come from‚ or how broken you may feel‚ you can still experience peace. And living in peace actually begins with humility ... Unexpected‚ right? Dr. Joel Muddamalle has discovered that the peace we want doesn't come from the absence of pain and chaos but from knowing that Jesus is with us in those things. If you're ready for this kind of soul-settled assurance‚ join Joel in the pages of his new book‚ The Hidden Peace: Finding True Security‚ Strength‚ and Confidence Through Humility. This book officially releases TODAY‚ so get your copy now! ENGAGE Stay connected with Joel through Instagram and Facebook! You can also sign up to receive "bite-sized theology" on Joel's website‚ where you'll receive a monthly newsletter you can read within five minutes or fewer. FOR DEEPER STUDY James 4:10‚ "Humble yourselves before the Lord‚ and he will exalt you" (CSB). James 4:10 shows us another instance of blessing through bowing before God. What heavy burdens or brokenness can you bring to the Lord in humility today? We'd love to hear from you! Share your thoughts in the comments. © 2024 by Dr. Joel Muddamalle. All rights reserved. Donald Trump Dominates North Dakota Caucuses In 70-Point Win

In the final GOP nominating contest before Super Tuesday‚ Donald Trump easily defeated Nikki Haley to capture the Republican North Dakota caucuses. Trump cruised to a 84.4% to 14.1% win. The victory gives Trump all 29 of North Dakota’s GOP delegates. Trump leads the GOP primary with 276 delegates compared to Haley’s 43 delegates. 1‚215 are needed to win. Trump and President Joe Biden are dominating their races and are on track to winning their nominations later this month. Under North Dakota’s rules‚ candidates are eligible to win delegates if they finish with at least 20percent of the vote. However‚ a candidate who wins at least 60 percent of the vote receives all of the state’s 29 delegates. Four candidates were on the ballot‚ including Trump and Haley. The other candidates‚ who have received little attention‚ were Florida businessperson David Stuckenberg and Texas businessperson and pastor Ryan Binkley‚ who recently ended his campaign. Trump swept North Dakota’s three Electoral College votes in 2016 and 2020‚ winning about 63 percent and 65 percent of those votes‚ respectively. The last Democrat to win North Dakota in November was Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. Per NBC News: On Tuesday‚ 865 delegates — or 36% of all the delegates in the race — will be at stake in over a dozen states. The candidate who clinches the majority of the party’s delegates — 1‚215 of 2‚429 total delegates — before the Republican National Convention this summer will be the nominee.
