As women’s sports enthusiasts celebrate the 52nd anniversary of Title IX, the Biden administration seeks to reinterpret the federal law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in federally funded education programs to allow males who identify as girls and women in female spaces. “This is clearly part of an overarching agenda, in which they’re trying to erase truth,” Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz Jr. told The Daily Signal. The Biden administration’s reinterpretation, finalized in April, adds “gender identity” to the list of sex-based protections. Legal experts say the new rule will allow males in women’s and girls sports, female locker rooms, restrooms, and more.  Diaz, a Republican, joins ”The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how the rule change harms girls, and how states can follow Florida’s lead in fighting back. Shortly after the Biden administration finalized its reinterpretation of Title IX, Florida filed a lawsuit to block the rule. “This would affect, and take away the opportunities from, our girls and women,” the Florida education chief said. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis nominated Diaz—who formerly served in the Florida Legislature and worked as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and school administrator—for education commissioner in April 2022.
