Gavin Newsom Is on Top of the World

Now that Joe Biden has revealed the full extent of his cognitive decline to the American public, Democrats know that they will face almost certain failure come November unless they are able to swap him out for a different candidate. Gavin Newsom is basking in this moment. This is everything he has prepared for his entire life. Newsom has walked a fine line: He has done everything possible to raise his national profile while at the same time ingratiating himself with Democrats and the Biden campaign. At first, Newsom’s cavorting on the national stage drew significant jealousy from the Biden campaign, who worried that Newsom would challenge their candidate. His profile-raising actions included his tours of red states, launch of a national-focused super PAC, Fox News appearances, international travels, and debate with then-presidential candidate Ron DeSantis. Newsom would eventually convince Biden and his campaign of his loyalty and earn his role as Biden’s top surrogate. That achievement led to the situation we had last night: Newsom was literally waiting in the wings at the debate as Biden’s No. 1 defender. Now that Biden has shown the extent to which his age is impeding his mental abilities, Newsom is ready to swoop in and save the Democrats. And he is ready to do so while not coming across — to his party at least — as power-hungry. Newsom continued to play the act of the selfless, supportive surrogate following the debate, knowing that, in the circumstance that Biden is convinced to end his campaign, this will best position him to take the nomination. “You don’t turn your back because of one performance,” Newsom told MSNBC’s Alex Wagner. “What kind of party does that?” If Biden pulls out, Newsom will have to contend against other candidates. But he is the man best-positioned to take the job. With this short of a timeline, you need a candidate who can quickly capture the public’s attention and support. No one excels at this more than Gavin Newsom. As I detail in my book, Newsom Unleashed: The Progressive Lust for Unbridled Power, out last week from Bombardier Books, Newsom has spent his entire political career galvanizing public acclaim through dramatic policy pronouncements and political stunts. Just take a look at how Newsom made himself a national political star within weeks of being sworn in as San Francisco’s mayor. On Feb. 12, 2004, Newsom thwarted the laws of California by becoming the first person to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in the United States. The new mayor staged the whole stunt perfectly. He did it just before Valentine’s Day weekend, which gave news outlets reason to spin the illegal weddings into romantic stories and ensured that the courts would be closed due to the President’s Day holiday. In addition, Newsom persuaded longtime couple and LGBT activists Del Martin, age 83, and Phyllis Lyon, age 79, to be the first pair married in a ceremony he conducted. Immediately upon the commencement of the weddings, Newsom made headlines nationwide. News networks repeatedly used the word “hero” to describe the young mayor. “You may have set a record for instant fame in this country,” said 60 Minutes’ Bob Simon in an interview with Newsom. Newsom would be able to garner the same energy and attention in the event that he replaced Biden. Kamala Harris’s name comes up often as a potential replacement for Biden because of her status as vice president and her race. However, since Harris’ approval rating is even worse than Biden’s, Democrats would have to ask themselves if there would be any point to replacing Biden with her. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer would be another viable option, but she does not have the national name recognition that Newsom has gained through his pseudo-campaign, nor has she displayed the same energy and charisma Newsom possesses. Yes, selecting Newsom comes with the slight issue that California has become a total disaster zone under him. That’s not to mention the fact that the governor has severe personal baggage. But, when circumstances are dire, drastic steps must be taken. Ellie Gardey Holmes is the author of Newsom Unleashed: The Progressive Lust for Unbridled Power. That Debate Might Be the End of the Road for … Barack Obama

Here’s a snap reaction to that utter debacle CNN offered up to the American people last night. I could tell you how awful that 90-minute train wreck was, but you already know. And you know what you’ve known for a while, but you know it with a lot more clarity — that husk of a man staring off into space when he wasn’t attempting to play Mumbles from the Dick Tracy movies isn’t fit to be president. Democrats on social media and TV, the ones not accepting that Joe Biden is non compos mentis and can no longer win this presidential election, spent all their time during and after the debate screeching about what a liar Donald Trump is, and bitching at Dana Bash and Jake Tapper, who did a lot better job as moderators than anybody would have expected, for not stepping in and fact-checking Trump at every answer. They know how bad this is. After the debate, Biden went from 86 cents to 55 cents on PredictIt for the Democrat nomination. The money is running away from him. And maybe, so is the nomination. But how does this work? I wrote a few days ago about Biden losing the nomination; I didn’t see a mechanism for dumping him out unless he goes willingly. And as bad as Biden was on that debate stage, I didn’t see any evidence he’s ready to quit. I didn’t even see any evidence that he knows there’s a problem. And Jill Biden — excuse me, Dr. Jill Biden, because we have to honor that community college education Ph.D. of hers when she’s effectively running the White House like no First Lady since Edith Wilson — absolutely doesn’t show any indication that she thinks anything is wrong. Dr. Jill has happily engaged in this elder abuse for four years running because of what she’s getting out of it; why would you think she wants to stop? But the real reason it’s such a disaster for the Democrats to try to change Biden out is the reason he’s in the White House in the first place. Barack Obama is that reason. And yes, you should read Racism, Revenge and Ruin: It’s All Obama, where I discuss in detail how it’s Obama pulling the real strings behind the scenes here. They’ve acted for the last four years like that was an asset. But now? Maybe not so much. Remember, four years ago, the Democrats’ voters had very, very little interest in nominating either Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. But they got Biden-Harris anyway, and for a very simple reason: those were the two most controllable puppets Team Obama could find out of the two dozen candidates in that field. It didn’t matter that nobody wanted either one of them. The deal got cut and all of the other players accepted their allotment of crumbs from the table. Because it’s Obama’s party. It has been since 2008. Which is a very, very long time for somebody to be the most important political player in America. Biden was clearly unfit to be president a year ago. His popularity was a problem even then, and so was his cognition. But Team Obama laid down the law that no one was to challenge him, and when Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., refused to listen, they chased him out of their party and refused to give him Secret Service protection. A Kennedy who can’t run as a Democrat. And a guy whose father and uncle were assassinated can’t get Secret Service protection when he’s running for president. Imagine the ruthlessness of that. They’ve been trying to force Biden down the throats of their own voters, not to mention the American people, all this time. They’ve now painted themselves into a corner. Let’s say there’s no coming back from that debate, and it seems pretty safe to say that’s the case. Biden might hang on as the nominee, but he can’t win reelection. So what do you do? If you’re Obama, that is. You’ve got to keep a puppet, obviously. But whom? Everybody wants to say Michelle Obama. But if that was going to happen, it already would have. Michelle Obama simply doesn’t want the job, and Barack Obama cannot tell Michelle Obama what to do. It’s also not in evidence that Michelle can turn things around. She’s never even run for city council or state rep, and now she’s going to get elected president? I’ll bet you’ll start to see polling of that hypothetical. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see disappointing numbers for Michelle. Who else? Kamala Harris, obviously. Except Kamala Harris is an even longer shot to hold the White House than Biden. The only thing you get with Kamala Harris is she keeps an iron grip on the black female vote, which is the most monolithic voting bloc in American politics. Problem is she’s utterly repellent to everyone else in America, and it’s not like she’s a good enough campaigner or communicator that she’ll grow on the voters. Who else? Beyond Michelle and Kamala, the only other plausible Team Obama insider would be J. B. Pritzker, the governor of Illinois. But when the voters find out about the super-rich Pritzker family and the wacko radicalism they embrace, and particularly the fact that they’re among the world’s most prolific funders of the transgender movement, that’s a dead end. Pritzker can’t beat Trump or even come close. I’m not saying there’s a savior out there. If there was one, you probably needed some presidential primaries for someone to emerge. And Team Obama’s iron grip on the party prevented such a challenger. Gavin Newsom, about whom Ellie Gardey Holmes has written the definitive work (and you should all pick up her new book about Newsom), is the name on all the Democrats’ lips right now. But Newsom is not a member of Team Obama. And he has an ego even bigger than Barack Obama’s. Gavin Newsom is not going to be Obama’s puppet. Meaning you can’t make Newsom your nominee without wresting control of that party away from Obama. And Obama is no more likely to voluntarily give over the reins than Joe and Jill are to voluntarily give up the trappings of the presidency. That looks like a war on the horizon. It looks like a death struggle inside the DNC, AFTER the opportunities to run a legitimate primary contest have passed. I have another theory. I explain the fact that Trump’s last 40 minutes of that debate were uninspired and lousy as being a function of his knowing that it was a disaster for Biden and it was garbage time. And that Trump was trying to “lay up” and not demolish Biden so badly as to chase him out of the race. The fact that nobody on the Democrats’ bench looks like they could beat Trump doesn’t change what’s obvious at this point: Trump beats Biden if the race doesn’t fundamentally transform. And right now, any real fundamental transformation on the Democrat side seems like it would have to start with their moving away from Obama. I don’t know that they can do it. I really doubt he would accept it. But if this isn’t the end of the road for Team Obama, I think we can see it from here. Scott McKay is the author of Racism Revenge and Ruin: It’s All Obama. Julian Assange: free at last, but guilty of practicing journalism

by Pepe Escobar, Strategic Culture: The United States Government (USG) – under the “rules-based international order” – has de facto ruled that Julian Assange is guilty of practicing journalism. Edward Snowden had already noted that “when exposing a crime is treated as committing a crime, you are being ruled by criminals.” Criminals such as Mike […]
