Oklahoma Republican Governor Kevin Stitt signed a bill on Tuesday that makes illegal immigration a state crime punishable by fine and imprisonment.  The legislation permits Oklahoma law enforcement to arrest people for entering the United States illegally. If convicted‚ the illegal immigrant would be guilty of “impermissible occupation” and could be punished with up to a year in jail and a $500 fine. The person would also be required to leave the state within 72 hours “following his or her conviction or release from custody‚ whichever comes later.” A second offense‚ upgraded to a felony‚ would allow the illegal immigrant to be held for two years behind bars and fined up to $1‚000. Again‚ the person would be required to leave the state within 72 hours of being convicted or completing a prison sentence.  “I am disappointed this bill is necessary. Since President Biden took office in 2021‚ more than 10 million people have poured over the southern border‚” Stitt said. “Countless individuals from across the globe‚ including thousands of Chinese nationals as well as people affiliated with terror organizations‚ have illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.” The legislation‚ HB 4516‚ is set to go into effect on July 1. The measure was passed 39-8 in the Senate and 77-20 in the House. Similar laws have been passed in other Republican-led states like Iowa and Texas but have faced court challenges. Texas’s law is currently on hold while a federal appeals court considers a challenge to it.  The text of the bill said that it was necessary in part due to the influx of Chinese-backed marijuana farms that have cropped up across the state.  “Throughout the state‚ law enforcement comes into daily and increasingly frequent contact with foreign nationals who entered the country illegally or who remain here illegally‚” the bill says. “This is particularly common in regard to illegal marijuana grow operations‚ which have exploded in number in recent years.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP State Attorney General Gentner Drummond said he was grateful that the measure was passed‚ saying it would aid law enforcement. “Oklahoma has reaped the consequences of the Biden Administration’s utter failure to secure our nation’s border‚ as evidenced by the flood of illegal marijuana grows and other criminal activity connected to Chinese syndicates and Mexican cartels‚” he said.  In his statement announcing his signing of the bill‚ Stitt said he would create a work permit and visa task force “to find ways to bolster our workforce” to help “those who are here contributing to our communities and economy.” According to the governor‚ the task force will make recommendations to the governor and state legislature about making it easy for immigrants to work and find jobs in Oklahoma.

A non-profit group that has allegedly regularly taken part in pro-Hamas protests and encouraged its members to “support our students so that the encampments can go for as long as they can” has received more than $12 million from the investment firm Goldman Sachs’ charitable arm. The People’s Forum‚ which calls itself “a movement incubator for working class and marginalized communities‚” has “been a mainstay at anti-Israel protests since Hamas’s Oct. 7‚ 2023‚ attack on the Jewish state‚” The Washington Free Beacon reported‚ noting that the group “organized a Times Square protest where attendees celebrated Hamas and waved posters with anti-Semitic slogans and imagery” the day after the horrific Hamas massacre of more than 1200 people in Israel on October 7. On Monday‚ the group‚ which included more than 100 “masked and keffiyeh-clad activists‚” according to the Beacon‚ waited until demonstrators at Columbia University could arrive. Once they arrived‚ People’s Forum executive director Manolo De Los Santos lauded them for “decid[ing] that resistance is more important than negotiations” and lashed out at “Zionist” Columbia administrators who “want to be more like their masters in Israel‚” the Free Beacon‚ which viewed the meeting on Zoom‚ reported. The Free Beacon surmised that the source of the funding from Goldman Sachs “is likely Neville Roy Singham‚ a communist who has ‘long admired Maoism‚’ lives in China‚ and is married to Jodie Evans‚ the leader of the hard-left group Code Pink. Late Wednesday morning‚ police officers in Mount Horeb‚ Wisconsin prevented what could have been a horrific situation when they shot and killed a 14-year-old boy armed with a weapon‚ reportedly a long gun‚ outside the district’s middle school. According to Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul‚ the armed teenager was a student in the Mount Horeb School District‚ roughly 20 miles west of Madison. The high school in the district is across the street from the middle school. “For a period of time today there was concern that there was an ongoing threat related to this incident. We currently believe that there is no ongoing threat to public safety. But again‚ this is an ongoing investigation‚ and we will update the public if any additional threat to safety is discovered‚” Kaul stated. “An initial search of the middle school has not yielded additional suspects. As importantly‚ we have no reports of individuals being harmed‚ with the exception of the alleged assailant‚” the school district wrote in a deleted Facebook post. “Intermediate center students evacuated. There was no threat at that location. Buses are aware and preparing to escort them to our reunification site. we will be updating you with details shortly. We are in the process right now of a systematic release of middle school students to use restrooms interior to the middle school. They are not being released at this time. School District Superintendent Steve Salerno said‚ “It is our hope that based upon the tone and tenor of those visits…that we can bring students and staff back on Friday. We’ll have a decision on that some point here in the near future. A 45-year-old man who raised concerns about a Boeing supplier ignoring production defects died on Tuesday while battling a fast-spreading infection‚ his family said. Joshua Dean of Wichita‚ Kansas‚ was a healthy middle-aged man before going to the hospital two weeks ago because he was having difficulty breathing‚ according to his family‚ The Seattle Times reported. At the hospital‚ Dean was intubated but then developed pneumonia and MRSA‚ an infection that makes it hard for a person to breathe. Dean’s aunt‚ Carol Parsons‚ said her nephew’s condition became so severe before his death that he was airlifted to a hospital in Oklahoma City and placed on an ECMO machine‚ which takes over a patient’s heart and lung functions when they’re not working on their own. Dean‚ who worked as a quality auditor at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems‚ was reportedly fired by Spirit in April 2023. He then filed a complaint with the Department of Labor‚ alleging Spirit had retaliated against him for raising concerns about aviation safety‚ according to the Times. Dean said that in 2022‚ he sounded the alarm on an alleged manufacturing defect where mechanics were improperly drilling holes in the MAX’s aft pressure bulkhead‚ but management allegedly did nothing to address his concern. The former quality auditor had also given a deposition in a Spirit shareholder lawsuit and filed a complaint with the Federal Aviation Administration. In his complaint‚ Dean alleged that there was “serious and gross misconduct by senior quality management of the 737 production line” at Spirit. The Wichita man was represented by the same law firm that represented Boeing whistleblower John Barnett‚ who was found dead in March from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Barnett had alleged that Boeing retaliated against him after he filed complaints related to quality lapses. The police investigation into Barnett’s death is still ongoing‚ the Times reported. Boeing has faced scrutiny in recent months‚ including from federal authorities‚ who are investigating what caused a door plug on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 to come off mid-flight earlier this year. Boeing said it has “worked proactively and transparently” to support the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation. Belligerent mobs of elite college students once again occupy campuses across the country. This week‚ masked coeds at Columbia shattered windows in an academic building‚ barricaded themselves inside‚ and hung an intifada flag out the window. Like the pride‚ BLM‚ and trans‚ flags before it‚ the message was clear: we want a new regime in charge and it’s not the one reflected in the stars and stripes. The spokesman for the university‚ Ben Chang‚ stated that the encampments‚ vandalism‚ and occupation “violated numerous University policies.” What these students did not violate‚ however‚ is the religious zeal of a progressive agenda that has permeated their education from the cradle to the cap and gown. When the moral mission passed down to you by your educators is to disrupt‚ destabilize‚ and make a mess — violating an establishment policy is an opportunity‚ not an obstacle. Despite the millions in endowments funding Higher Ed’s hallowed halls‚ such institutions are in a freefall of utter moral and intellectual bankruptcy. As Warren Buffet once remarked: “You don’t find out who’s been swimming naked until the tide goes out.” The craven corruption gambling away our future is not new; it is just exposed. Many in education have been running a con. They leveraged our future for their totalizing political scam that dehumanizes those it is meant to educate. It is an anti-education — not meant to form students in the freedom that comes from intellectual and moral virtues but rather to deform and reengineer them to be programmable pawns of cultural disruption. You give them your best. They send back students who don’t believe in the moral law but are full of moral outrage. You send them your brightest. They give back 22-year-olds who do not believe in truth but are certain everyone else is wrong. Especially you‚ dad. In a way‚ students are quite right to be angry. Someone has spent an unseemly amount of money to strip them of their cultural inheritance leaving them with a poverty that is far deeper than a pocketbook. It is a bankrupting of their interior life: a poverty of the life of their mind and soul and a robbing of their capacity to experience reverence and wonder. Cultural revolutionaries have long understood that investing their power and influence into the school system would seed the ticking time bomb of a destabilizing critical consciousness into the future. The point was not just the obvious divisiveness that results‚ but also the relocation of the moral impulse from the development of virtue into the adoption of victimhood. A victim identity appeals to a perennial human temptation to deflect from our faults and failures. Seeing acutely the fault in others is much more enticing than seeing it accurately in ourselves. But success in marriage‚ friendship‚ the workplace‚ or in any sort of community requires persons who develop the muscle to self-examine. If you want someone to flourish in life‚ you teach them responsibility. If you want someone to fail — or even an entire society to fail — teach people to develop a grievance mindset. Once they believe that society is defined by division and that the oppressed are always the protagonists‚ they will seek to maintain their moral stature through the perpetuation of conflict and the unmasking of error in others. Every permanent victim must also be an incessant accuser. Once an accuser identity is internalized it prowls about the world looking for someone to devour. In other words‚ for the students-turned-foot-soldiers‚ it matters very little which flag they fly so long as it injects them with some borrowed moral currency. Sterilizing kids is rightly a grave concern amid the trans madness that flows from this same woke spigot‚ but this is another sort of sterility that is less obvious but no less grave. This process of deformation starts much earlier and younger than Higher Ed‚ as I’ve detailed elsewhere. The personal and social chaos that comes of it will not stop by just shutting down this or that protest. Authorities may finally clear away the encampments and suspend or expel the ring leaders. They can put out statements and assuage donor concerns. But none of this means the needed course correction is happening nor does it heal the hollowed out inner life of a generation that will wait in desperation for the next whiff of outrage so that they might feel that they are alive once again. Unless we understand how entrenched this ideology is we will continue to ride its cycles and busts. Let’s cheer then for the wins that speak to the source of this present poison in a way that eliminates it root and branch. There are many of them – from the mass exodus out of public schools to the greater and well-deserved attention turning to the many good schools that know what it takes to form the future. The long march through the institutions has finally been less about institutional capture than it has been about the capture of the interior life of the human soul.
