After Another Ugly Antisemitic Incident in LA, the Left Has Few Words, No Answers

A violent antisemitic mob descended upon a Los Angeles synagogue on Sunday and harassed the congregants, injuring several. Yet the response from the LA media and authorities has been pitiful. The initial protests were organized by Palestinian Youth Movement LA and Code Pink LA, the same coalition of people who’ve organized the protests on college campuses and in our cities. Some of the protesters filmed their march down the streets of Los Angeles holding Palestinian and pro-Hamas flags. They screamed chants like, “There is only one solution, intifada revolution.” This is what the protest ended up like as they made their way to the Adas Torah synagogue in Pico-Robertson, a Los Angeles neighborhood with a large number of Jewish residents: BREAKING:Anti-Israel protesters are physically attacking Jews in front of a synagogue in Los Angeles ???? pic.twitter.com/FQHC2k7Ygp— Visegrád 24 (@visegrad24) June 23, 2024 It was an ugly scene. Though you might not know about it if you only followed left-wing local and national media. The Los Angeles Times buried this story in its back pages. The front page of the print edition of today's LA Times. Notice anything missing?Nothing about the antisemitic violence on pages 2 or 3 either. Their website has a brief story, half of it written by City News Service. pic.twitter.com/CZSLlwziLE— Jennifer Van Laar (@jenvanlaar) June 24, 2024 Judge for yourself what you think of these videos. The video footage from the Palestine protest outside of a synagogue in LA are shocking.Mob of protestors using violence against Jews in broad daylight. How does this movement have any legitimacy? https://t.co/guPtwrHBG4 pic.twitter.com/5dNF3oOk8w— Hen Mazzig (@HenMazzig) June 23, 2024 Only one person was reportedly arrested during this whole episode—a man who was allegedly holding a flag with a spike at the end of it. According to The Jewish Chronicle, the police didn’t provide any more information about the person. I really don’t think there’s any question that what happened at the Adas Torah synagogue was shameful and unacceptable. Protesting is one thing, harassing a synagogue is crossing the line. And committing violence is criminal. The question is, what are the authorities going to do about it? Here’s the statement put out by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. BREAKING: LA Mayor Karen Bass calls antisemitic protests in West LA “abhorrent” and “unacceptable.” pic.twitter.com/EYE7cHsrlz— Jacob Wheeler (@JWheelertv) June 24, 2024 I’ll note a few things here. First, Bass buries the lede. The word “antisemitism” only shows up near the end of the statement, and from the first paragraph, one would hardly know that the hostility and violence were directed toward Jews or who committed it. Bass condemns “violence,” but only says it took place at a “place of worship.” It wasn’t just a place of worship, it was a synagogue. The people in the mob had a target, and the target was Jews. This is a common left-wing linguistic tactic. Any time a group they aren’t so keen on is targeted, or the ethnic and religious dynamic is uncomfortable, they will label the incident with generic words like “hate” to dodge the issue and shift it to a broader societal problem. That’s exactly what they tried to pull during the congressional hearings on college campus antisemitism. Next, Bass says she’s organizing more police patrols outside—again totally generic—“houses of worship.” Unless those so-called houses of worship are synagogues, this is entirely a waste of police time and money. If the mayor was really concerned about Jews being targeted for violence, she would have deployed the LA Police Department in force to the synagogue while this incident was growing rather than let it spin out of control for hours before intervening. The only meaningful part of Bass’ bland statement is the line that “those responsible” for antisemitism and violence “will be found and held accountable.” I certainly hope so, but given that only one person was even arrested, I can’t say I’d count on any of that statement being true. As we’ve seen in other blue, heavily Democrat-controlled cities, lawbreakers who commit their crimes on behalf of left-wing causes often escape punishment entirely. They know that the powers that be will come to their aid. President Joe Biden put out a slightly better statement than Bass by at least being explicit about who was attacked. However, the president was light on suggestions of what he will do about it. I’m appalled by the scenes outside of Adas Torah synagogue in Los Angeles. Intimidating Jewish congregants is dangerous, unconscionable, antisemitic, and un-American.Americans have a right to peaceful protest. But blocking access to a house of worship – and engaging in violence…— President Biden (@POTUS) June 24, 2024 This wasn’t a protest. It was a violent mob harassing and attacking citizens because of their religion. The Department of Justice under Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland has put numerous pro-life activists in jail for attempting to block the entrances of abortion clinics. Will the DOJ do anything about the people who blockaded the synagogue and instigated violence? How about the other ugly antisemitic incidents that seem to be escalating? So far, we’ve seen a whole lotta nothing. If only you were in charge of the FBI and Department of Justice and could order them to conduct a manhunt for every one of these pro-Hamas lunatics. Like you did for every grandma in a MAGA hat within a country mile of the Capitol on January 6. https://t.co/VhToiEKH00— Tom Cotton (@TomCottonAR) June 24, 2024 Biden—or whichever one of his handlers was running his social media accounts at the time—said in 2020 that former President Donald Trump was on the hook for any violence he decried during his presidency. https://t.co/mHaz0q4K6J pic.twitter.com/0hSeIrSYcY— Stephen L. Miller (@redsteeze) June 24, 2024 Will Bass or the president or any of the left-wing institutional powers that be do anything to put a halt to these incidents, or is winning a few votes in Michigan more important than ensuring that “Never again” really means never again? I hate to be cynical, but given all that’s happened in recent months, I think we already have the answer. Pro-Abortion Activists Call for ERA on 2nd Anniversary of Roe v. Wade Reversal

Pro-abortion activists rallied Monday outside the Supreme Court in support of the Equal Rights Amendment. “ERA now,” the pro-abortion rallygoers chanted as they held signs reading “Safe abortion is a human right,” and “Keep abortion legal.” WATCH: Pro-abortion activists chant in support of the Equal Rights Amendment. I asked six of the protesters what the ERA is. Two were able to tell me. pic.twitter.com/kvtiUlEEO5— Virginia Allen (@Virginia_Allen5) June 24, 2024 Competing pro-life and pro-abortion activists stood outside the court, chanting on the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned 1973’s Roe v. Wade decision and sent abortion back to the voters in their respective states. The rally, which was backed by the Women’s March, was held “to demand President [Joe] Biden publish the Equal Rights Amendment and restore our constitutional right to abortion.” The Equal Rights Amendment declares: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”  The amendment has been debated for more than 50 years, with individuals such as the now-deceased Phyllis Schlafly leading the charge against the ERA, warning it would harm women’s rights by removing all distinctions between men and women.  The constitutional amendment was sent to the states for ratification in 1972, but fell three states short of winning the support of the requisite 38 states, even though the original seven-year ratification period was extended by Congress for 39 extra months. The final ratification deadline passed on June 30, 1982. While some women at the pro-abortion rally were passionate about the need for the ERA, others did not even know what it is.  “I’m not too familiar,” one of the women said when asked what the ERA would do. “I just moved to this area. Could you tell me what the ERA stands for?” “What is the ERA?” The Daily Signal asked another woman.  “Oh, I don’t know,” she said, noting that she lives in Maryland.  Rosie Couture, director of the Young Feminist Party, clearly defined the ERA and called on Biden to make the ERA “a reality” at the federal level.  “Young people are here on the ground protesting to get us toward justice, to not be just on the defense, but on the offense, but right now, the Supreme Court’s rolling back the clock, and we need federally elected leaders to step up,” Couture said.  The post Pro-Abortion Activists Call for ERA on 2nd Anniversary of Roe v. Julian Assange Strikes Deal with US Authorities, Walks Free With No Further Prison Time for WikiLeaks Founder

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. With a turning point in the saga of journalist, activist, and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, federal court documents reveal that he has consented to a plea agreement with the US Justice Department. We obtained a copy of the court filings for you here. This deal stipulated that Assange would plead guilty to a felony charge linked to one of the most significant breaches of US classified information. However, it notably spares him from serving any time in a US prison by recognizing the duration he has already spent incarcerated. According to Wikileaks, Assange has already been released from Belmarsh maximum security prison in the UK. After 1,901 days—more than five years—behind bars, Assange walked free on the morning of June 24. His release was facilitated by a High Court decision in London granting him bail. By the afternoon, Assange was at Stansted airport, boarding a plane to leave the UK. Julian Assange’s legal battle has captured global attention, particularly highlighting issues of freedom of information and the rights of journalists and whistleblowers. Under the deal’s terms, Assange is sentenced to 62 months, equivalent to the time he has already served in a high-security London facility while contesting his extradition to the US. The backdrop to this development includes Assange’s initial indictment in 2019, which comprised 18 counts related to his purported involvement in publishing classified US documents, notably related to the controversial Iraq war. Assange’s role primarily involved the dissemination of sensitive US military documents that had been leaked by Chelsea Manning, a former Army intelligence analyst, during 2010 and 2011. These documents included swathes of unredacted US diplomatic communications and other sensitive material such as Iraq war logs, details concerning Guantanamo Bay detainees, and evidence that the US was involved in the killing of two Reuters journalists. The Reuters photographer leak was titled “Collateral Murder.” This video, shot from a US Apache helicopter, graphically depicted the killing of several individuals in Baghdad, Iraq, in July 2007. The video shows the helicopter crew targeting and firing at a group of men in a suburb of Baghdad. Among those killed were two Reuters news staff: Saeed Chmagh and Namir Noor-Eldeen. The crew mistook their cameras for weapons, leading to this tragic incident. The footage also captured the aftermath, including a van arriving at the scene to pick up the wounded and dead, which was then also fired upon by the helicopter. Two children in the van were injured. The release of this footage was explosive because it challenged the official US military account of the incident, which did not initially disclose that journalists were among the casualties and described the confrontation as an engagement with armed insurgents. US authorities have long contended that Assange’s actions not only breached national security but also placed numerous confidential sources at risk. The potential maximum sentence for these charges could have extended up to 175 years. In recent times, President Joe Biden has hinted at negotiations influenced by Australian officials aimed at facilitating Assange’s return to Australia. Nevertheless, key figures within the FBI and Justice Department maintained that any agreement must include Assange’s admission of guilt to a felony. Last month, a pivotal victory came Assange’s way when a UK court affirmed his right to appeal against his extradition to the US, marking a significant moment in his protracted legal struggle against the charges levied against him. This ruling provided Assange a crucial leverage in his fight to avoid facing trial in the US for his alleged crimes. The case has been a flashpoint in discussions about free speech and the rights of journalists and whistleblowers.
