Left-wing editor cries 'Christian nationalism' after flight attendant wishes her 'blessed' night — and backlash is brutal

A left-wing editor said it was evidence of "creeping Christian nationalism" after a flight attendant wished her a "blessed" night — and commenters on X reacted to the journalist's complaint with a barrage of scorn. Mother Jones editor in chief Clara Jeffery wrote on X, "Creeping Christian nationalism alert: @AlaskaAir flight attendant just wished us a 'blessed' night as we landed in SFO (!) to groans. Other adjectives that would have sufficed: great, awesome, fabulous, amazing, fantastic… As my rowmate said, 'this ain’t Montgomery, sweetie,'" according to various media outlets. 'You have issues greater than a flight attendant’s well wishes.' It appears Jeffery deleted her controversial X post, which reportedly went live Friday night after her arrival in San Francisco — but plenty of notable observers read it and didn't like it one bit. Kamala Harris fundraiser Armand Domalewski replied to Jeffery: "Respectfully, I’m a pretty left leaning guy, and I wish folks a blessed day fairly often. It’s just a nice thing to say." Jeffery shot back: "Eh. It’s a matter of respect for the audience before you. Respecting their space and norms and wishes. Dominant cultures always feel they have a right to enforce their norms and intents. And…way off @AlaskaAir’s brand." With that, Domalewski smartly retorted, "As a practicing Catholic I don’t feel like being publicly Christian is really the dominant culture here in SF lol." Others reacted similarly: — (@) — (@) — (@) — (@) — (@) — (@) — (@) — (@) — (@) Others pointed out that Jeffery herself has used the term "bless" in the past.Jeffery so far hasn't deleted a pushback post apparently against the derision her "creeping Christian nationalism" statement elicited; not surprisingly, she specifically notes those of the right-wing persuasion: — (@) "The thing about being dragged by rw 'alphas' is that they are all so so so dumb," she said. But Jeffery promptly got dragged yet again as her apparent pushback post has been massively ratioed as of Monday morning with just over 200 likes and nearly 1,000 comments. Here are some of them:"I hate to break it to you sweetie pie, but relatively few of those dragging you are [right wing]. So far it has been mostly [left wing] and centrists and really every tribe on the planet," one commenter observed. "Could be the real [right-wing] 'alphas' think the wicked witch of Mother Jones is just beneath them. Bless your heart.""Looks like you're being dragged by just about everyone, have a blessed day!" another declared."Maybe log off for a couple years," another suggested."Have a blessed day," one commenter said."Clinical psychopaths are quite good at portraying themselves as victims," another noted. "Maybe you should look into that, psycho.""Have you thought that maybe YOU’RE the problem? I mean, look at the comments," another wrote. "Maybe some self reflection would be a good thing for you." ‘That’s just the data’: Scientist obliterates Bill Maher’s climate change narrative

Bill Maher may commonly find himself as the voice of reason among his fellow liberals — but on a recent segment of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” one of his guests took that position instead. While Maher repeated media talking points regarding the death of the Great Barrier Reef, his guest, Bjørn Lomborg, dismantled his argument with ease. “What will the ocean look like? I mean, I’m not talking about oceans rising, I’m talking about oceans dying — and the world can’t live with dead oceans. And it seems like they’re in bad shape, between all the plastic in them, they’re overfished,” Maher tells Lomborg. “Coral reefs, I know you’ve talked about, ‘Oh, that’s exaggerated.’ Tell me about why you think the coral reef problem is exaggerated,” he added. Despite Maher’s confidence in his lead-up, Lomborg was ready for it. “That’s just the data,” he retorted. “Remember, by the end of the century, the U.N. estimates the average person on the planet will be 450% as rich as he or she is today. So that means instead of being 450% as rich, we will feel like we’re only 435% as rich.” “Yes, that’s a problem, no, it’s not the end of the world,” he continued, before making his point about the coral reef. “The guys who do the data every year on the coral reef since 1986 have been assessing what is the total outcome of how good does the coral reef look.” “In 2009 to 2012, we thought it was terrible. It was really dramatic. The Guardian wrote the obituary for the Great Barrier Reef. And the point I’ve just been making is the last three years, they’ve been at the highest level, the most coral reef we’ve ever seen in those areas,” Lomborg explained. “Most of the challenge comes from overfishing, from industrial pollution, from sea runoff, and those are the things we should fix. But we’re not being well-informed if we’re being told this is because of climate change, so we’ve got to change our entire infrastructure on our global economy in order to save the oceans, when it’s not actually what’s going to happen,” he finished. Dave Rubin of “The Rubin Report” is on the same page. “If you don’t give AOC the power to fix the climate, that’s one of the things that they would love to cancel everybody for and keep liberals in a constant state of hysteria,” Rubin says. homeOS rumors reveal big plans for Apple smart home devices

Apple could unveil a new operating system to power several new products. BGR readers are no strangers to homeOS. Since 2021, Apple has been teasing this possible software with job listings and even code references. However, after 9to5Mac's Filipe Espósito revealed that Apple is working on a squared-display "HomeAccessory" with an A18 chip for AI, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman corroborated this finding and provided more details about this future homeOS update. Codenamed J490, this product currently features a built-in camera for FaceTime and other video conferencing apps and can identify hand gestures from a distance. Interestingly enough, this rumored product is like an "entry-level" model of the tabletop device (codenamed J595) that Apple is also rumored to introduce with a price tag of around $1,000. Interestingly, Gurman says the entry-level device discovered by Espósito could be released as soon as next year, as Cupertino could bring Apple Intelligence to its home devices with this one. Here's what the journalist says about these prototypes and possible software: Both of the new products are considered collaborations between Apple’s artificial intelligence and home device hardware engineering groups. The low-end smart display is designed to run apps like Calendar, Notes and Home, and will include an interface optimized for controlling home appliances and quickly seeing information. When developing prototypes, Apple imagined the device magnetically attaching to walls or sitting atop a desk. What's homeOS, and why it matters so much The M4 iPad Pro connected to an external display. Image source: Apple Inc. homeOS is Apple's possible new software for everything home-related. With that, the company could rebrand tvOS as this new software or even create a sub-branch of tvOS to run more specific home products, such as tabletop devices, HomePods, and other smart home products. Suppose Apple makes this change (whether rebranding tvOS or just adding new software). In that case, it will show how serious the company is about this new field, in addition to developing exclusive features for new products. When Apple switched from iOS to iPadOS, the iPad started receiving exclusive functions (Stage Manager, Universal Control, Apple Pencil support, etc). The same happened when Apple TVs got their own software and App Store. That being said, homeOS could offer a similar pathway, and, of course, WWDC could be the stage for this announcement. These are all the products that could run this new system Apple has a few unreleased products that could take advantage of this software, including: HomePod with a display: Several reports highlight a possible HomePod with a display, which would be an improvement over the current generation. It could ultimately display weather and music data, etc.; Squared display with HomePod combo: Espósito's finding reveals that Apple could soon launch this product with a squared display, tabletop arms, built-in camera, and Apple Intelligence; Premium tabletop: Gurman reveals that Apple is developing this $1,000 product as a premium alternative to the Amazon Echo Show. In addition to these products, homeOS could even power future Apple TV and HomePod models. It could also be the start of Apple Intelligence on Apple products at home. BGR will keep following the latest rumors about this unreleased software in addition to these possible new products. Don't Miss: Apple’s mysterious homeOS referenced again in tvOS 17, and I think it might debut soon The post homeOS rumors reveal big plans for Apple smart home devices appeared first on BGR.
