A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction that will block #SB4‚ Texas’ border security bill‚ from taking effect next week. The law would authorize Texas authorities to arrest and jail illegal immigrants and allow state judges to order deportations. Texas can appeal. The DOJ‚ ACLU‚ and other organizations sued Texas. Louisiana Legislature Sends Constitutional Carry Bill To Republican Governor

A bill that would allow any non-felon Louisiana resident to concealed carry a gun without a permit has passed both the state House and Senate and is expected to be signed by Governor Jeff Landry (R-LA).  The Republican-backed proposal‚ SB 1‚ passed the House on Wednesday by a 75-28 vote and the Senate 28-10 last week. If signed‚ Louisiana would be the 28th state to enact a constitutional carry-style law.  The Louisiana bill says “that law-abiding persons eighteen years of age and not otherwise prohibited may carry a concealed weapon lawfully without a permit‚” removing previous requirements for concealed carry in the state.  “People are getting raped‚ murdered‚ carjacked and assaulted‚” said Louisiana state Rep. Mike Johnson on Wednesday. “A vote for this bill today gives the citizens of Louisiana the right to defend themselves.” Republican state Sen. Blake Miguez was the sponsor of the legislation and noted it would take effect on Independence Day if signed.  “Thank you to the LA House of Representatives for passing #SB1 (Constitutional Carry) without amendments. It will now head to Governor Jeff Landry’s desk for signature with an effective date of July 4th this year‚ in honor of the our nation’s Independence Day‚” he said.  Thank you to the LA House of Representatives for passing #SB1 (Constitutional Carry) without amendments. It will now head to Governor Jeff Landry’s desk for signature with an effective date of July 4th this year‚ in honor of the our nation’s Independence Day. #2A #lalege #lagov — Blake Miguez (@BlakeMiguezLA) February 28‚ 2024 The proposal was passed after Landry asked the state legislature to pass tougher punishments for crime as well as pass a constitutional carry bill in a special session. “While criminals carry guns without regard for the law‚ lawful gun owners are our most law-abiding citizens. Their armed presence helps deter violent crime‚” Landry said. “It is time Louisiana join 27 other states who have created a constitutional right to carry a firearm without the government’s permission. This body has repeatedly passed it. Now you have a governor who will sign it.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP A constitutional carry bill was vetoed in June 2021 by then-Governor John Bel Edwards (D-LA) after both the state House and Senate passed the measure overwhelmingly.  The governor’s office changed hands earlier this year after Landry won over 50% of the vote in Louisiana’s “jungle primary” in October 2023. Since Landry won over 50% of the vote the race did not go on to the general election.  Landry ran on getting crime under control and improving the economy and public school system. His campaign website blasted “woke” district attorneys for being soft on crime‚ and he says that as governor‚ Louisiana would “hold everyone‚ and I mean everyone‚ accountable for violent crime.”

‘The View’ Loses It Over SCOTUS Taking Up Immunity Case‚ Accuses Court Of Plot To ‘Help Trump’

The hosts of ABC’s “The View” complained during Thursday’s broadcast that the Supreme Court was plotting to “help Trump” by taking up the case regarding whether or not the former president was immune from prosecution. Cohost Joy Behar‚ ignoring the fact that the Supreme Court was already expediting the case at Special Counsel Jack Smith’s request‚ questioned the timing of the case — asking specifically why they wouldn’t take up the case “immediately.” “They’re not taking up this case immediately‚ so what’s their motivation then?” Behar asked. “What is their motivation for not doing it right away?” “Unfortunately‚ some people are saying the motivation is that there are certain conservative justices that have been appointed by Trump that want to help him‚” cohost Sunny Hostin alleged‚ suggesting that the timing was an intentional move to make sure that Smith’s case against Trump could not be completed prior to the presidential election in November. “Because we know the end result is — if this case is not resolved by the time of the election and he God forbid becomes the President of the United States — the Justice Department policy is that you can’t indict nor put on trial a sitting president‚ right? And so it’s his get out of jail free — but it’s his get out of jail free card.” “He could throw him in jail‚” Goldberg interrupted as Hostin finished. “No‚ no‚ no‚ I’m saying Biden could …” WATCH: ELECTION DENIALISMThe View calls the 2000 election case of Bush v Gore "the day democracy died" and "certainly an injustice."Back here‚ in reality‚ multiple recounts upheld that Bush did‚ in fact‚ win the election. pic.twitter.com/XAlDETLb7g — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) February 29‚ 2024 Hostin followed that up with a reference to the 2000 presidential election and the Bush v. Gore case that came after Gore raised questions surrounding the Florida ballots and multiple recounts found in Bush’s favor. “The Bush v. Gore case happened real quick‚” Hostin said‚ arguing that the Supreme Court knew how to truly expedite things when they chose to do so. “The Supreme Court knows how to work real fast.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Behar got sidetracked by the mention of the 2000 election‚ saying of the Court’s decision: “That’s was the day democracy died.” “Well … it was certainly an injustice to many people‚” Hostin replied. “It was choking it‚” Goldberg added. “It was choking it.”

DeSantis Signs Legislation Authorizing Release Of Jeffrey Epstein Documents

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law this week that authorizes the release of grand jury documents from the state’s 2006 criminal investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. The Palm Beach Police Department asked the state attorney in the case to charge Epstein with multiple felonies‚ including unlawful sexual activity with a minor and lewd or lascivious molestation‚ the governor’s office said in a statement. “Rather than charge Epstein directly‚ the State Attorney at the time chose to present evidence to a grand jury — ensuring the names of those involved and the details of the accusations were kept sealed.” Speaking at a press conference on Thursday‚ which included appearances and remarks from some of Epstein’s victims‚ DeSantis said: “Justice delayed is justice denied‚ and I think in many respects this whole ordeal has proven that to be true.” “The legislature and I agreed that there needs to be a mechanism in some of these rare circumstances where people can get the truth‚ and where we can try to pursue justice‚” the governor said. “And so we’re now sitting here decades later‚ and you’ve had Epstein and then Maxwell is actually in prison in Florida. And yet nothing else has ever happened with any of this. How is that possible given the magnitude of what was going on? And what was going on in Florida was only a fraction of what was happening because you had activities and abuse in New York City‚ in the Virgin Islands. And this was a massive‚ massive operation here that was targeting these very‚ very young girls.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP DeSantis said that the sweetheart deal that Epstein secured from prosecutors was something that an average person would never have been able to do and that Epstein got it because he was “very rich and well-connected.” The governor’s office said that HB 117 will allow the disclosure of grand jury material in any case if the following conditions are met: The subject of the grand jury inquiry is dead. The investigation was about sexual activity with a minor. The testimony was previously disclosed by a court order. The state attorney is notified. WATCH:

‘Deadpool &; Wolverine’ Trailer Shatters Record. Can Ryan Reynolds Save The MCU?

‘Deadpool &; Wolverine’ Trailer Shatters Record. Can Ryan Reynolds Save The MCU?

The once-mighty MCU has fallen and it can’t get up. Even non-Comic Con types know the Marvel Cinematic Universe no longer lords over Hollywood. Last year’s mega-flop‚ “The Marvels‚” put an exclamation mark on that sorry state of affairs. The film made $206 million globally compared to the $1.1 billion the original earned four years prior. Could Ryan Reynolds and his foul-mouthed alter ego‚ Deadpool‚ bring the MCU back from the cinematic grave? He might‚ assuming the powers that be follow the Reynolds Method‚ a heady blend of marketing ingenuity and old-fashioned charm. Visual China Group via Getty Images The next big MCU film drops this summer. Reynolds returns as the “Merc with a Mouth” in “Deadpool &; Wolverine‚” out July 26. The film unites the unlikely mutants in an R-rated romp that got Comic Con nation all hot and bothered. The film’s trailer generated 365 million views in just one day‚ a record number significantly boosted by its Super Bowl exposure. It’s still a staggering sum‚ suggesting the core characters retain plenty of audience goodwill. And rightly so. Hugh Jackman‚ AKA Wolverine‚ is a talented star who rarely meddles in divisive matters. He’s an old-school actor who just wants to “put on a show‚” and his eclectic film choices bear that out‚ down to his turn in 2017’s “The Greatest Showman.” It’s still Reynolds’ franchise. The “Deadpool &; Wolverine” trailer’s gazillion views matter‚ but the film’s strength goes beyond that. Reynolds is the kind of apolitical‚ marketing savvy star that Disney desperately needs at this point in the MCU. It’s about brand renewal as much as a stellar product. Reynolds has mostly stayed above the political fray over the years. Yes‚ he did the “hostage-style” apology after learning the venue where he married actress Blake Lively had plantation ties from long ago. The mea culpa came eight years after the ceremony and‚ more importantly‚ months after George Floyd’s death following an altercation with Minneapolis police. The couple even bent the fiscal knee‚ donating $200‚000 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund to assuage their guilt. Otherwise‚ the actor mostly stays above the partisan fray. Reynolds shared an “I Voted” photograph on Election Day three-plus years ago but refused to say his presidential choice. He previously admitted to being “terrified” by the thought of a Trump presidency‚ but he didn’t make his views so obvious that they became part of his persona. He’s the un-Robert De Niro. Reynolds is endlessly funny on film‚ leaning hard into his wiseacre brand. That’s never been more true than with the Deadpool character. He’s taken it very seriously behind-the-scenes‚ constantly connecting with fans and taking a personal stake in the character. The New York Times called him the “driving force” behind the franchise‚ and few dispute it. That spirit extends beyond the film set. The Canadian native is a whiz with social media‚ leveraging his gargantuan flock — now 21.5 million strong on X‚ 51.3 million on Instagram. That’s no accident. Reynolds’ marketing mastery has coincided with his rise to superstardom. He helped turn Mint Mobile into a billion-dollar company. He also took control‚ with fellow actor Rob McElhenney‚ of the Welsh football team Wrexham AFC and subsequently watched ticket sales and sponsorship opportunities soar. Jan Kruger/Getty Images Disney could learn a thing or two from the star. The Mouse House’s Rachel Zegler of “Snow White” infamy trashed her own franchise more than once last year. Disney ended up postponing the live action reboot’s debut a full year‚ possibly to do some behind-the-scenes tinkering to deal with the PR fallout. That’s never an issue with Reynolds. He’d rather poke fun at himself than the fans or the material that’s making him even richer. Ironically‚ the “Deadpool” franchise wasn’t even under Disney’s thumb initially. The company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox changed all that. And now he’s working for Mickey and chums. He even found some good-natured humor in that merger‚ mocking how some classic Disney films truly deserve an R rating like the “Deadpool” saga. He wasn’t being woke‚ just silly. Too many MCU stars either trash the franchise after the fact or lean‚ hard on its new woke ways. Actor Ray Winstone did the latter‚ saying his time shooting “Black Widow” was “soul destroying.” Comedian-turned-actor Kumail Nanjiani whined that the bad reviews surrounding his MCU debut in “Eternals” chased him into therapy. Reynolds would never say anything close to these complaints. He’s like Jackman‚ a star who wants audiences to see the sunny side of superhero shtick. Matthew Ashton – AMA/Getty Images He’s getting paid handsomely to wear a silly costume‚ crack wise‚ and tell jokes his inner 15-year-old finds hilarious. And he refuses to settle for mediocrity. Think the team behind “Madame Web‚” one of the worst superhero films of the last 20 years‚ had the same commitment to quality? That’s exactly what the MCU needs. That‚ plus a hit to make the “superhero fatigue” talk fade‚ if at least for a while. Follow Reynolds’ lead. Focus on the product. Reach out to the fans. Do it with a wink and a smile. And never let ‘em see you sweat. He might be the MCU’s best chance at a new beginning. * * * Christian Toto is an award-winning journalist‚ movie critic and editor of HollywoodInToto.com. Tom Brady Outruns Younger Self From 2000 NFL Combine

Forty-six-year-old NFL quarterback Tom Brady beat the time he previously set on a 40-yard dash as a 22-year-old at the 2000 NFL Combine. Brady said in a clip posted to social media that he wanted to see if he could “level-up” from when he ran the dash in 5.28 seconds in 2000. The clip starts out showing Brady on one end of a field with two other people at the other holding stopwatches. The former NFL QB then re-runs the 40 and it turned out he’s faster now. One person said he ran it in 5.18 seconds‚ the other said it was more like 5.12 seconds. The NFL decided to put together a video showing the older and younger Brady running side by side with his new time. At first‚ the young NFL hopeful is faster in the video‚ but in a short amount of time the older NFL star pulls ahead and never loses ground. 46-year old @TomBrady ran a faster 40-yard dash than he did at the combine over 20 years ago 👀 (via @nobull) pic.twitter.com/QP1lda50gG — NFL (@NFL) February 29‚ 2024 At the end of Brady’s video‚ his business partner Mike Repole joked that if he had been that fast 24 years ago the QB might’ve gotten “drafted in the third round” instead of being picked by the New England Patriots in the 199th spot overall that year‚ TMZ noted. Despite not being picked first‚ Brady’s NFL career is one for the history books after taking the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins. He then joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020 and that season took the team to a Super Bowl victory against the Kansas City Chiefs‚ CBS Sports reported. Brady owns three NFL MVP awards on top of his Super Bowl rings and will be inducted into the NFL Football Hall of Fame in 2028. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP In February 2023‚ Brady announced his retirement in a now-viral video on Instagram. Days later‚ he officially filed his retirement papers. In the social media post‚ he first thanked fans and everyone who helped him along the way‚ before he explained that he was retiring for good from the NFL after 23 seasons in the league following numerous trips to the Super Bowl and 15 Pro Bowl appearances. “I know the process was a pretty big deal last time‚ so when I woke up this morning‚ I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first‚” Brady said‚ noting his previous retirement announcement on February 1‚ 2022‚ before changing his mind. In 2022‚ Brady made headlines when he announced he was finally walking away from professional football. But 40 days later he reversed that decision and returned to play with the Bucs for another season.

Federal Judge Blocks Texas Law Allowing Police To Arrest Illegal Immigrants

Federal Judge Blocks Texas Law Allowing Police To Arrest Illegal Immigrants

A Texas law giving state law enforcement officers expanded power to arrest people who illegally cross the southern border was blocked by a federal judge on Thursday — less than a week before the law was slated to go into effect. U.S. District Judge David Ezra granted a preliminary injunction that will block the Texas law‚ which made crossing the border illegally a state crime‚ as record numbers of migrants cross into the U.S. under President Joe Biden‚ The Texas Tribune reported. Ezra‚ an appointee of President Ronald Reagan‚ wrote in his ruling that states “may not exercise immigration enforcement power except as authorized by the federal government.” Ezra added that the Texas law conflicts with the Constitution “to the detriment of the United States’ foreign relations and treaty obligations.” The law will be put on hold as the legal battle between Texas and the Biden administration continues. The new immigration enforcement powers for police‚ which were proposed as Texas Senate Bill 4 and signed by Republican Governor Gregg Abbott‚ allow law enforcement officers to arrest and jail illegal immigrants and also grant state judges the power to order deportations. The law drew harsh criticism from the Biden administration‚ which argued that the state law interfered with federal immigration law. In December‚ the ACLU filed a lawsuit against Texas over the law‚ arguing that is discriminatory and will target minorities‚ and a month later‚ the U.S. Department of Justice sued the state. The Biden administration’s and ACLU’s lawsuits have since been combined. A lawyer for the state of Texas argued in court that the massive influx of illegal immigrants crossing from Mexico into the state constitutes an invasion‚ adding that under Article I‚ Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution‚ Texas has a right to defend itself. Judge Ezra‚ however‚ disagreed that Texas was under any sort of “military invasion.” “I haven’t seen‚ and the state of Texas can’t point me to any type of military invasion in Texas‚” Ezra said. “I don’t see evidence that Texas is at war.” Abbott pledged in December that the state would fight to enforce the law all the way up to the Supreme Court. He said the law was necessary because of President Biden’s border policies‚ adding that “Texas has the constitutional authority to secure our border through historic laws like SB 4.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP The Texas governor said he wasn’t surprised by the judge’s ruling on Thursday‚ adding that his administration “will not back down in our fight to protect Texas.” “Texas has the constitutional right to defend itself because of President Biden’s ongoing failure to fulfill his duty. We will not back down in our fight to protect Texas‚” Abbott wrote in a post on X. “This case will ultimately be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.” Texas has the constitutional right to defend itself because of President Biden's ongoing failure to fulfill his duty.
