DNC 2024 will stream on more than a dozen platforms – including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube

Once the 2024 Democratic National Convention gets underway in Chicago next week, get ready -- you're going to see live DNC footage everywhere you go online. For the first time, next week's convention at which Kamala Harris will be nominated as her party's standard-bearer will stream on more than a dozen major platforms ranging from TikTok to Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, Prime Video, and more. It's a first for the DNC, which this year will not only offer an unprecedented number of ways to tune in to the proceedings -- its blanketing of the internet also aligns with the Harris campaign's usage of more than 175 staffers whose work includes “digital persuasion and mobilization,” according to Semafor. That digitally oriented work includes everything from meme-y posts to responding to breaking news events across the Kamala Harris and KamalaHQ social channels, which also benefit from a Gen Z rapid response team that produces daily content. “With more and more Americans consuming their news in new and innovative ways, Democrats stand ready to meet them where they are -- and to bring our vision for a brighter future to households all across the country," DNCC Executive Director Alex Hornbrook said about the convention, which will take place from Aug. 19-22. In addition to offering a range of accessible viewing options, the DNC will also be available with English and Spanish language audio along with corresponding captions in both languages. The DNCC will also provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and audio description services to its streaming partners. Among the platforms and URLs that will take viewers to the DNC's online content are: DemConvention.com/watch YouTube.com/demconvention   x.com/demconvention   tiktok.com/@demconvention   instagram.com/demconvention   Facebook.com/demconvention   Twitch.tv/demconvention Amazon Prime Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y52w0sVwFvI Don't Miss: The internet has already decided who should portray Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate, on SNL The post DNC 2024 will stream on more than a dozen platforms – including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube appeared first on BGR. Medieval Coin Treasure Unearthed in Glottertal: A Glimpse into the 14th-Century Economy

One of the largest medieval coin hoards in recent decades has been unearthed in Glottertal, a picturesque village in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district of Germany. This extraordinary find, consisting of approximately 1,600 coins, offers a rare window into the economic practices of 14th-century Europe and sheds light on the region's minting activity, silver trade, and the broader monetary circulation in Breisgau. A Routine Task Turns into a Major Archaeological Find The treasure was discovered by Claus Völker, a local citizen who was assisting with the laying of a pipeline near the village swimming pool in early May 2024, records a Stuttgart Regional Council  press release. Völker's sharp eye caught sight of what he initially described as "small metal plates" within the excavation. Realizing the potential significance of these objects, he promptly reported the find to the State Office for Monument Preservation (LAD) in the Stuttgart Regional Council. LAD archaeologists, alongside Völker, visited the site the same day to recover the coins, and discovered a whopping 1000 coins. On subsequent visits, a team of certified detectorists braved difficult conditions, including heavy rains that turned the excavation site into knee-deep mud, and uncovered an additional 600 coins, bringing the total to around 1,600. Hollywood Legend And ‘The Notebook’ Star Gena Rowlands Dies At 94

Actress Gena Rowlands died on August 14 at the age of 94. She had been diagnosed with dementia. Gena was a highly decorated star of the stage and screen, big and small, most recently known for ‘The Notebook.’   On August 14, Gena Rowlands died. She was 94 years old when she passed, and her death follows on the heels of a dementia diagnosis, though no cause of death has been formally announced. Rowlands died surrounded by family, including her husband Robert and daughter Alexandra. An actor whose career spanned over six decades, Rowlands was a four-time Emmy and two-time Golden Globe winner who famously collaborated with her actor-director husband John Cassavetes on almost a dozen films. She is also remembered for her performance in films like Another Woman and The Notebook. The rise of a shining star, Gena Rowlands Theatre and Westerns defined the start of her career / Everett Collection Virginia “Gena” Rowlands was born on June 19, 1930, in Madison, Wisconsin. After college, where she enjoyed immense popularity and admiration for her beauty, Gena headed straight to New York to study drama in earnest. Her career began in 1949 but kicked off in earnest through theatre. Gena made her Broadway debut in The Seven Year Itch, before touring nationally with the cast and crew. More esteemed Broadway work followed. RELATED: In Memoriam — All The People We Lost In 2023 After theatre, television work dominated much of her schedule, placing Gena in projects such as Studio One, Appointment with Adventure, Robert Montgomery Presents, and Western shows such as Bonanza, Laramie, The Virginian, Riverboat, and more. A decorated career LONELY ARE THE BRAVE, Gena Rowlands, 1962 / Everett Collection The 1985 made-for-TV film An Early Frost and 1987 TV film The Betty Ford Story gave Gena national acclaim, thanks to her stunning performance as First Lady Betty Ford. For her performance, she won an Emmy Award. Emmy number two came in 1992 for Face of a Stranger, with number three coming from 2003’s Hysterical Blindness on HBO. She also received an honorary Oscar in 2015, and her trophy case would come to include three Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes on top of that. But for Gena, the real joy of the job was all the different journeys she got to take. THE NOTEBOOK / (c) New Line/courtesy Everett Collection “You know what is wonderful about being an actress?” she said in her acceptance speech receiving the Governors Awards in 2015. “You live many lives.” Tragically, she would love one of those lives when her character in The Notebook suffered from Alzheimer’s, only for Gena to be diagnosed with the same condition. “I got my mom to play older Allie,” recounted her son Nick Cassavetes, who also directed the film, “and we spent a lot of time talking about Alzheimer’s and wanting to be authentic with it, and now, for the last five years, she’s had Alzheimer’s. She’s in full dementia. And it’s so crazy — we lived it, she acted it, and now it’s on us.” Rest in peace, Gena Rowland. Towards the end of her life, Gena suffered from dementia / ImageCollect RELATED: ‘Halloween’ And ‘Roots’ Actor Charles Cyphers Dies At 85 Click for next Article The post Hollywood Legend And ‘The Notebook’ Star Gena Rowlands Dies At 94 appeared first on DoYouRemember? - The Home of Nostalgia.
