Stadium-Sized ‘Day of Gratitude’ Event Set in Las Vegas for Military Personnel, Veterans

At an event expected to be the largest of its kind in Nevada history, 15,000 military service members, veterans, and their families will be treated to world-class entertainment, millions of dollars in gifts, and an array of activities at the NFL Las Vegas Raiders’ stadium on Saturday.  With the maximum number of free tickets already reserved, there are 3,000 more service members, vets, and their families on the waitlist for the Day of Gratitude at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, said Dave Donaldson, co-founder and CEO of CityServe International, a Christian collaborative network. “We want this Day of Gratitude to really show our appreciation, not only for those who have served, but their families,” Donaldson said. “We want their kids to know how proud we are of their parents and grandparents.” Day of Gratitude performers will include country music artist Walker Hayes, “American Idol” finalist Danny Gokey, and Garry and Janine Carson, whose magic show was voted No. 1 in Las Vegas last year. The Day of Gratitude collaborators—including Voice of the Veterans, ChurchLV, the Las Vegas Raiders, and corporate donors, in addition to CityServe—will distribute $3 million worth of “gratitude gifts,” Donaldson said. Those include T-shirts for every attendee, along with Ikea bags filled with 20 different practical items, such as Nike shoes, toys, diapers, and baby wipes.  “Thanks to the Raiders, we’re going to feed the first 12,000 a wonderful lunch,” the CityServe chief said. After the ceremony and lunch, the kids’ zone will open on each end of the field, where there will be inflatable moon bounce houses and games.   There will be some 40 booths providing various services for veterans and military families at the event, he said. Many of those services will focus on counseling and encouragement, combating post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicide prevention.  “It’s a heartbreaker when you hear the statistics,” Donaldson said. Since 9/11, nearly 7,000 military personnel have died in wars, and 6,000 have died every year from suicide since then. Additionally, 1 in 4 active-duty service members suffer from food insecurity, he said. Veterans often return from service and feel isolated because they can’t relate to other people, as “the military comprises 1% of the American population,” he said. Other sources put that figure even lower, at 0.5% “Too many feel like relics that have been forgotten, and that’s a narrative that has got to be changed in our nation,” Donaldson said. “Day of Gratitude is a catalyst for changing this mindset.” The post Stadium-Sized ‘Day of Gratitude’ Event Set in Las Vegas for Military Personnel, Veterans appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Race Obsessed Joy Reid Proclaims 'Yes, Ron DeSantis has BANNED COLOR!'

MSNBC host Joy Reid faced her greatest nightmare during Wednesday’s episode of The ReidOut. She described Republican movements in several states attempting to revive traditional values, warning about the apparent tragedy that would result should these standards be restored in society. And despite being the one who sees the world in the racial tones of black and white, she ridiculously claimed a GOP governor “banned color.” Reid first launched into a rant constituted by a series of oversimplified representations of Republican policies and values, explaining how they spelled out “manufactured culture wars [that] are nasty work. They’re undemocratic and extreme.” She also claimed that former President Donald Trump’s administration resulted in a massive loss of rights for American citizens: Under Trump, Americans have lost more rights than they have gained, because to the MAGA party, the woman's rightful place is in the home making her husband a sandwich. Immigrants should go back to where they came from. All college students should be white. And queer folks should hide in the closet, like in the good old days.     Texas drew her ire with its approval of a platform seeking to uphold rigorously traditional values. Reid outlined the platform’s goals, which apparently reminded her of a “19th century horror story,” and even compared them to The Handmaid’s Tale, a popular book and TV show that’s often used to vilify conservatives by illustrating a dystopian future under a grossly distorted version of Judeo-Christian beliefs: ‘Self-sufficient family based on traditional marriage between a natural man and a natural woman.’ They deem that sex education should be forbidden. Abortion is homicide. IVF is criminal. Gender-affirming care is child abuse. Homosexuals have no legal rights. The state's ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment for women is no longer valid. And prayer, Bible study, and Christian religion should return to schools, courthouses, and other government buildings. Colorado’s Republican Party was next on her list, with “a mass email in honor of pride month titled ‘God hates flags,’ which is a disgusting wordplay on a derogatory slur.” The letter referred to members of LGBTQ+ as “barbaric, creeps, degenerates, godless, groomers, predators, radicals, and reprobates,” further writing that “The month of June has arrived and once again, the godless groomers in our society want to attack what is decent, holy, and righteous so they can ultimately harm our children.”  NewsBusters found seemingly countless examples proving Colorado’s Republicans spoke the truth, and the letter’s characterizations were not as outrageous as MSNBC’s host suggested. The proverbial cherry on top of Reid’s tirade was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ decision to forbid cities in Florida from “displaying colorful lights on their bridges during pride month, limiting bridge coloration to red, white, and blue,” or as she summed it up, “Yes, Ron DeSantis has banned color!” The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: MSNBC’s The ReidOut 6/5/2024 07:02:23 PM EST JOY REID: At this point, the national party has made it clear that the MAGA party is not a safe place for women, minorities, people of color, basically anybody that's not a conservative, white, Christian, straight male or really, really rich.  Under Trump, Americans have lost more rights than they have gained, because to the MAGA party, the woman's rightful place is in the home making her husband a sandwich. Immigrants should go back to where they came from. All college students should be white. And queer folks should hide in the closet, like in the good old days. These manufactured culture wars are nasty work. They’re undemocratic and extreme.  But MAGA state politicians have somehow figured out a way to out-do their national party colleagues. In Texas, for example, the state Republican Party just approved a platform that reads like a 19th century horror story. The platform calls for, quote, “Self-sufficient family based on traditional marriage between a natural man and a natural woman.” They deem that sex education should be forbidden. Basically The Handmaid's Tale.  In Colorado, the state Republican Party sent a mass email in honor of pride month titled "God hates flags," which is a disgusting wordplay on a derogatory slur. The letter, originally posted by Kyle Clark, an NBC News 9 reporter in Colorado, referred to LGBTQ+ people as, quote, “barbaric, creeps, degenerates, godless, groomers, predators, radicals, and reprobates.” They write, “The month of June has arrived and once again, the godless groomers in our society want to attack what is decent, holy, and righteous so they can ultimately harm our children.” In Florida, Ron DeSantis' administration has forbidden cities across the state from displaying colorful lights on their bridges during pride month, limiting bridge coloration to red, white, and blue. Yes, Ron DeSantis has banned color! State Republicans in Florida also forbidden trans people from changing their driver’s licenses to match their gender identity. (...)

Police on manhunt for Virginia woman who allegedly murdered her elderly roommates

Law enforcement officials are on a massive manhunt for a Virginia woman after her three elderly roommates were found dead. The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office said officers were called to a home on White Street Court for a welfare check on Tuesday at about 10 p.m. They said they found the bodies of two men and one woman; all appeared to have died from upper body trauma. The victims were identified as 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell, 65-year-old Carol Anne Reese, and 77-year-old Robert John McGuire. 'She is being accused of a heinous, heinous, crime.' Police said they identified their suspect as 23-year-old Alyssa Jane Venable, who lived at the residence. "After further investigation and evidence collection, it was discovered that a roommate had committed this heinous crime," said the sheriff's office. Investigators said Venable is wanted on three counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm during the commission of a felony. Police said she had been previously charged in May with misdemeanor assault and battery in another case that occurred at a McDonald's where she worked. A coworker recalled her in comments to WUSA-TV. "If something was wrong, she'd snap at you quick," said Bianca Smith. "I feel like she was in an irritated mood all the time."'Please call home. Please call home.' Residents who lived in the area were shocked by the incident. "I'm blown away and when I got the text message, it really was just a picture. To me, looks are deceiving," said resident Gary Boxley to WTVR-TV. "I don't know the details. I just know what I read. I don't think it's going to change anything as far as I'm not putting up a for-sale sign because of this incident. I'm fully aware this stuff happens everywhere and nobody is immune to it." WTTG-TV spoke to Venable's grandmother, who called on her to turn herself in. "Please call home. Please call home. She is being accused of a heinous, heinous, crime, and we don’t know the facts." said Jane Venable. "We don’t know, but right now my granddaughter is missing, and we don’t know if she’s at risk of taking her life. So we just say, please AJ, call home," she added. Police described the suspect as having brown hair with blue eyes, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 228lbs. They believe she might have shaved her head in order to evade detection. She is also considered armed and dangerous. Spotsylvania County is located in the northeast part of the state with about 145k residents. Like Blaze News?
