Weekend Media Wrap‚ Vol. 37: What You Missed If You Weren’t Glued To The Sunday Shows

Every Sunday morning‚ legacy media outlets are taken over by elected officials‚ aspiring elected officials‚ administration insiders‚ and the usual collection of talking heads — all of whom are there to discuss specific policies‚ push talking points‚ or simply promote their own campaigns. For those who don’t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to unravel a full week’s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed. ABC News‚ “This Week”: Former CENTCOM commander General Frank McKenzie joined ABC News’ Martha Raddatz to discuss the fact that since President Joe Biden’s administration withdrew all American troops from Afghanistan — with disastrous results — the terror group ISIS has been allowed to grow virtually unchecked. McKenzie explained that ISIS was able to grow in part by using the internet to encourage radicalization in countries all around the globe‚ saying that ability “may be one of the most dangerous methods that ISIS can use to generate attacks.” Former CENTCOM commander retired Gen. Frank McKenzie tells @MarthaRaddatz that radicalizing people abroad over the internet “may be one of the most dangerous methods that ISIS can use to generate attacks.” https://t.co/kwihFiNewE pic.twitter.com/ufSW24lpbz — This Week (@ThisWeekABC) March 31‚ 2024 McKenzie went on to say that President Biden’s foreign policy — specifically his decision to abandon Afghanistan entirely when he pulled the last American troops out in 2021 — was creating an environment where ISIS could flourish. “In Afghanistan‚ we have almost no ability to see into that country and almost no ability to strike into that country. And so‚ ISIS there is able to grow unabated‚” he explained‚ warning that ISIS and other terror groups had already suggested they aspired to attack the United States. “There’s no pressure on them.” “In Afghanistan‚ we have almost no ability to see into that country and almost no ability to strike into that country. And so‚ ISIS there is able to grow unabated. There’s no pressure on them‚” retired Gen. Frank McKenzie tells @MarthaRaddatz. https://t.co/Qkjn9Xklsl pic.twitter.com/wsTQyz2d1I — This Week (@ThisWeekABC) March 31‚ 2024 CBS News‚ “Face the Nation”: Wilton Cardinal Gregory‚ archbishop of the Archdiocese of Washington‚ took President Biden to task during an Easter Sunday interview about Biden’s decision to lean in to celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility – which is traditionally held on March 31 – despite the fact that one of Christianity’s holiest days also fell on the 31st this year. “I would say that he’s very sincere about his faith‚” Cardinal Gregory‚ the first African American to serve as a Cardinal‚ began. But like a number of Catholics‚ he picks and chooses dimensions of the faith to highlight while ignoring or even contradicting other parts. There is a phrase that we have used in the past‚ a ‘cafeteria Catholic’ — you choose that which is attractive‚ and dismiss that which is challenging.” Wilton Cardinal Gregory (@WashArchbishop) on President Biden: “I would say that he's very sincere about his faith. James Clyburn (D-SC) cautioned against giving additional aid to Israel in its war against the terrorist group Hamas‚ saying that when it came to making new arrangements for such aid‚ “leverage has to be used.” Clyburn stopped short of calling for a halt to a shipment of bombs currently headed to Israel‚ however‚ arguing that shipment was part of a deal made in prior years and the United States should make good on promises already made. “What were the agreements made last year and the year before?” he asked‚ adding‚ “We have to keep our word.” WATCH: @RepJamesClyburn (D-S.C.) says “leverage has to be used” against Israel. But defends a new U.S. shipment of bombs: “What were the agreements made last year and the year before? … We have to keep our word.” pic.twitter.com/QT5ahunIK9 — Meet the Press (@MeetThePress) March 31‚ 2024 FOX‚ “Fox News Sunday”: “Fox News Sunday” anchor Shannon Bream spoke with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) about the 2024 presidential election‚ which is looming even closer as it appears both parties have settled on their respective candidates: President Joe Biden (Democrat) and former President Donald Trump (Republican). Bream led with a poll that showed Trump with “an 11-point edge” over President Biden when it came to his handling of foreign policy‚ and asked Khanna what he made of the president’s reelection chances. Khanna suggested that people had only soured on Biden because the war was dragging on‚ and argued that once the war was over — and Israel was secure — Biden’s poll numbers were likely to improve. Bream pivoted to discuss the economy then‚ noting that in recent polls‚ over half of Americans (52%) said that they were “worse off” under Biden than they had been before he took office in 2021. Another 26% said that they had seen no change‚ and only 22% said that they were better off in that same time frame. Khanna pushed back‚ arguing that the country was still recovering from the COVID pandemic and claiming that Biden had “created” millions of new jobs — despite reports clarifying that most of the jobs Biden claims to have “created” were jobs lost under draconian COVID policies and lockdowns coming back after those restrictions were lifted. Khanna went on to say that Biden advocated for raising wages‚ but did not address the economic impact — primarily through automation and job losses — of a rising minimum wage. WATCH: @RoKhanna joined to discuss President Biden's record as he faces reelection. pic.twitter.com/6UjAYVISbR — Fox News Sunday (@FoxNewsSunday) March 31‚ 2024 MSNBC‚ “Inside With Jen Psaki”: Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki used her monologue on MSNBC to claim that former President Donald Trump — who was initially facing 91 charges and is still fighting 88 of them in multiple jurisdictions — was reaping the benefits of a “two-tiered system of justice” that she said favored him. “Trump is not the victim of a two-tiered system of justice in this country. He has been a beneficiary. There is one system for the powerful‚ wealthy‚ and well connected like Donald Trump and there is another system for everyone else‚” she said. .@jrpsaki: “Trump is not the victim of a two-tiered system of justice in this country. Sacred Easter Vigil Marred by Pro-Palestine Protest at St. Patrick’s Cathedral

In an unprecedented act that has sparked widespread condemnation and debate‚ pro-Palestine protesters affiliated with Extinction Rebellion NYC's Palestinian Solidarity group brazenly disrupted the solemn Easter Vigil service at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York on March 31‚ 2024. The incident‚ occurring during one of Christianity's holiest celebrations‚ has ignited discussions on the sanctity of religious observances and the boundaries of political activism. The demonstrators‚ who had earlier congregated in Times Square for a pro-Palestine rally‚ infiltrated the iconic cathedral during the Easter Vigil's second reading. Their chants of "Free‚ free Palestine" abruptly shattered the reflective atmosphere‚ leaving thousands of worshippers in shock. At St Patricks Cathedral in NY on Easter Sunday‚ 3 activists entered &; started shouting "free Palestine‚ &; held up a banner saying "silence=death". Matthew Menzies‚ 31‚ John Rozendaal‚ 63‚ &; Gregory Schwedock‚ 35‚ were arrested &; charged with disruption of religious service. pic.twitter.com/1c5pM7csiR — David Atherton (@DaveAtherton20) April 1‚ 2024 This deliberate intrusion into a sacred event not only disrespected the congregants' right to worship but also highlighted a growing trend of activism encroaching upon religious spaces. Eyewitness accounts describe a scene of confusion and dismay as the small group of protesters vocally disrupted the service. Three climate wacko Hamas sympathizers interrupt Easter mass at St. Patricks cathedral in NYC… With a banner reading “silence=death” shouting “free Palestine” as they left!! (Happy Easter) (Resurrection Day) pic.twitter.com/OlgWsTLnGO — Millennial Conservative (@Milennial_con) March 31‚ 2024 Security personnel swiftly intervened‚ escorting the individuals out of the cathedral‚ yet the brief episode left a lasting impact on those present. The protesters were seen carrying a flag adorned with an olive tree and the message "SILENCE = DEATH‚" a stark reminder of the complex geopolitical issues at play. The Archdiocese of New York has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident‚ reflecting perhaps a measured approach to addressing what is undoubtedly a sensitive matter. The Easter Vigil‚ traditionally a time for reflection on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the foundational truths of the Christian faith‚ was thus marred by an act that many perceive as a blatant disregard for religious sanctity. Critics of the protest argue that such actions do more harm than good‚ alienating potential allies and disrespecting the fundamental rights of individuals to practice their faith in peace. Social media reactions have been swift and divided‚ with some pointing out the hypocrisy of disrupting a Christian service while questioning whether similar protests would ever occur in other religious contexts. This incident at St. Patrick's Cathedral serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing society today‚ where the lines between activism‚ respect for others‚ and the sanctity of worship are increasingly blurred. It raises important questions about the appropriate venues for political protests and the respect owed to religious observances‚ especially during significant holy days. As the dust settles on this Easter disruption‚ it is imperative for both activists and religious communities to engage in dialogue and seek understanding. While advocacy for peace and justice remains crucial‚ so too does the preservation of respect for all faiths and their sacred practices. The events of March 31‚ 2024‚ at St. Patrick's Cathedral will undoubtedly serve as a catalyst for much-needed conversations on these pivotal issues. Baboon Has Hilariously Relatable Reaction To Lunchtime Interruption

Ruben Lambrechts is a savior to dozens of orphaned wild animals. While operating a sanctuary‚ Ruben quickly points out that the animals in his care are not pets. That doesn’t keep him from forming close bonds with them. He is particularly fond of a baboon named Cindy‚ who he refers to as his “sister.” Ruben makes videos of all the animals‚ but this one of Cindy caught our fancy. She is concentrating on eating and wants no distractions. Her reaction is hilarious when the baboon encounters a bug during a meal. @rubenamibia Rule no1 never interrupt Cindy while she’s eating #baboon #animals #animalsoftiktok #wildlife #animallover ♬ original sound – Ruben Lambrechts – Ruben Lambrechts As you can see‚ Cindy is a funny baboon‚ repeatedly displacing the bug. Tossing it aside‚ you can tell she is in no mood to share her grains. The first time the baboon tossed the bug‚ it began climbing up from the side. The next toss was more forceful‚ sending the bug several feet from the “dining area.” Cindy does not want to be “bugged” during her lunch! Image from TikTok. Baboons are omnivorous and are opportunistic eaters. That means they aren’t too picky and choosy and will eat almost anything that doesn’t eat them first. Had the bug kept trying to hone in on Cindy’s snack‚ she might have added him to the lunch menu. In another video‚ Ruben shows us how Cindy tells him she is hungry. Then‚ he helps Cindy eat some of the foods he brought her. @rubenamibia My sister Cindy the baboon always tells me when she’s hungry #baboon #animals#animalsoftiktok#animallover#animalrescue#animalcare ♬ original sound – Ruben Lambrechts – Ruben Lambrechts More Funny Baboon Videos To Bug Your Friends With Ruben has a ton of really cool videos on his TikTok channel. He talks about the animals in his family’s care and how they release them back into the wild. Some animals stay within the fenced compound permanently and consider Ruben among their family. Cindy the baboon is one of the animals that chooses to stay. If you want more videos of Cindy and the other animals in his care‚ you can check them out on the TikTok channel.
