Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized former President Donald Trump on Wednesday for touting an endorsement from a Black Lives Matter leader. Mark Fisher‚ whom Fox News presented as the co-founder of Black Lives Matter Rhode Island‚ told the network this week that the Democrat Party was “not for” black people and that they were hypocrites. Fisher also said earlier this month that he endorsed Trump “because everybody else sucks.” Fisher’s comments led to Trump touting the endorsement and praising Fisher on social media. “Spoke with Mark Fisher yesterday‚ a great guy‚ very honored to have his and BLM’s support‚” Trump said. “I have done more for Black people than any other President (Lincoln?)‚ including 10 year funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities‚ where they had none‚ Opportunity Zones‚ Criminal Justice Reform‚ and much more. Thank you to Mark!” Newsweek reported that a spokesperson for BLM Rhode Island told the media outlet that Fisher is “no longer affiliated with BLM RI.” The group added‚ “His position with us was and is terminated.” Black Lives Matter has faced intense criticism for weeks‚ including from Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) on Wednesday‚ after various chapters have publicly expressed support for Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel.
