Caught in Crosshairs of a Cost-of-Living Crisis

President Joe Biden recently took to a stage in North Carolina to tout his economic agenda‚ which includes bringing high-speed internet to rural America. But that’s hardly what Americans struggling with a cost-of-living crisis need to hear. Millions of Americans have been terribly frustrated with the economy over the last three years‚ as witnessed by countless economic polls. While several aggregate numbers like gross domestic product and its largest component‚ consumer spending‚ may paint a rosy picture‚ millions of Americans are economically worse off than they were three years ago. After annual inflation outpaced earnings growth for a record 26 consecutive months‚ real (inflation-adjusted) incomes are down about 4.5% compared to January 2021. Yet Biden claims “we’re doin’ pretty damn well economically.” While Biden claims that real earnings have risen for the bottom half of workers‚ data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics mere hours before Biden spoke show real earnings have fallen 1% for the bottom half of workers during his tenure. People are struggling to make ends meet‚ with credit card debt at a record $1.1 trillion while 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. This is despite a record number of Americans having multiple jobs as they try to boost their lagging real incomes. Having maxed out their credit cards‚ Americans turned to alternative financing options‚ like buy-now-pay-later plans‚ to cover their holiday spending. Meanwhile‚ a quarter of Americans still haven’t even paid off their holiday debt from 2022. It’s no wonder that defaults and delinquencies on consumer debt like credit cards are rising at the fastest pace since the Global Financial Crisis. However‚ official inflation metrics like the consumer price index are understating the cost-of-living crisis by underestimating inflation‚ mostly because of methodological changes over the years. This is especially true for housing‚ which has seen affordability plummet over the past three years. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta‚ the median-priced home is affordable with the median income in only one metropolitan area (population of at least 500‚000) in the whole country. Families are maxing out credit cards just to pay their rent. This debt-fueled consumer spending binge of the past three years mirrors federal government spending. The national debt has breached $34 trillion‚ with another $1 trillion being added every 100 days or so. Interest on the debt is now $1 trillion annually‚ the third-largest budget item behind only the Social Security Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services. The explosions in government and consumer debt are related. Runaway federal spending prompted the Federal Reserve to create trillions of dollars for the Treasury Department to pay its bills. That drove inflation to 40-year highs‚ which robbed workers of their purchasing power‚ prompting them to take on debt to maintain their standard of living. Ironically‚ Biden cited his American Rescue Plan and the infrastructure bill he signed as two critical components of Bidenomics that have aided in his quest to expand high-speed internet access. Of course‚ these multitrillion-dollar spending packages also supercharged inflation. From his podium‚ Biden predicted that everyone in North Carolina would have high-speed internet access by the end of the decade. Unfortunately‚ because of the explosion in government spending‚ the federal debt will exceed $52 trillion by that time. The never-ending flood of government debt will bring more rounds of inflation and only worsen American families’ financial situations as prices and interest rates fluctuate violently. Americans’ main concern today is not their internet speed but their inability to afford necessities such as food and housing. The only way to reverse this cost-of-living crisis is to reverse what got us here: runaway government spending. Biden State Department Funds Program to Create Army of 2‚500 ‘LGBTQI+ Allies’

President Joe Biden’s State Department paid a public university to train a cohort of “master trainers” in India who will then go on to train more than 2‚000 people to become “LGBTQI+ allies‚” according to a government spending database. Washington State University received $15‚000 from the State Department in July 2023 to hold a three-day workshop aimed at training 30 individuals with the goal of them eventually training 2‚500 people to become “LGBTQI+ allies” and to develop a “better understanding of diversity and inclusion‚” according to a federal spending database. The trainings took place in India between Sept. 25 and Sept. 27‚ according to the university website. The State Department offered the grant under a program intended to “support the achievement of U.S. foreign policy goals and objectives‚ advance national interests and enhance national security‚” according to a federal spending database. The training sought to “increase the comfort levels of all participants regarding issues faced by members of the LGBTQI+ community‚” the university website read. Individuals participating in the training were instructed on how to properly use “LGBTQI+ language‚” taught about the intersection of LGBTQI+ identities and faith‚ instructed on LGBTQ+ history‚ and put through hours of allyship training‚ according to the workshop schedule. The State Department has distributed several grants under the Biden administration promoting LGBTQI+ ideology across the world. The State Department disbursed $4.6 million to groups in 55 different countries to fund LGBTQI+ activism as of June 30‚ according to The Washington Free Beacon. State Department grants have included supporting “queer” Muslim writers in India‚ providing classes for transgender “makeup entrepreneurs” in Nepal‚ and funding a LGBTQ+ film festival in Portugal that featured pedophilic and incestuous content. Conservative groups‚ including The Heritage Foundation and the Family Research Council‚ have argued that exporting LGBTQI+ ideology has been a priority at the State Department since Biden took office. “Attempting to export contentious current viewpoints held by slim and temporary political majorities does not advance U.S. national interests abroad and might very well induce opposition to them‚” the report from The Heritage Foundation reads. Washington State University and the State Department did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment. EXCLUSIVE: Here’s the Book the White House Suggested Amazon Should Ban

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—When President Joe Biden’s White House reached out to Amazon‚ demanding the bookseller suppress books opposing vaccines amid Biden’s push for the COVID-19 vaccines‚ White House staff highlighted one book in particular‚ according to documents reviewed by The Daily Signal. The House Judiciary Committee obtained emails demonstrating the White House’s pressure on Amazon to suppress “anti-vax books” and the company’s decision to take action against the books. The pressure campaign left Amazon employees wondering whether the Biden administration was “asking us to remove books.” ?EXCLUSIVE: Amazon staff wrote about feeling "pressure from the White House" and wondered whether Biden was "asking us to remove books."? Emails obtained by @JudiciaryGOP show Amazon yielded to White House pressure to censor "anti-vax books." ?https://t.co/FwSo0Rpd9o pic.twitter.com/ZEosDhu7EY— Tyler O'Neil (@Tyler2ONeil) February 5‚ 2024 “Who can we talk to about the high levels of propaganda and misinformation and disinformation [on] Amazon?” Andrew Slavitt‚ then a senior adviser on Biden’s COVID-19 response team‚ asked an Amazon executive on March 2‚ 2021. The executive replied that Amazon had “taken a number of actions to not show misleading content on vaccinations‚ so if we’re missing something‚ please let us know.” Slavitt sent an attachment‚ noting that “if you search for ‘vaccines’ under books‚ I see what comes up.” “I haven’t looked beyond that but if that’s what’s on the surface‚ it’s concerning‚” the member of the White House’s COVID-19 response team added. The Amazon executive responded by noting that the company doesn’t “allow content meant to mislead customers or that doesn’t accurately represent the content of the book.” The executive also noted that “when you search for books related to vaccines or the coronavirus‚” Amazon’s website has “a clear signpost at the top of the search page that links to the CDC page on vaccine information.” This was a reference to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention‚ a lead agency during the COVID-19 pandemic. Zach Butterworth‚ then the director of private sector engagement in the Biden White House‚ sent a screenshot of a book he found troubling. “Five minutes ago I searched ‘vaccine’ on Amazon and the attached book was one of the first in the stack‚” Butterworth wrote. “When I click on the product page I don’t see any CDC warning.” Slavitt responded‚ noting that “right above it is the line ‘Vaccines are dangerous and don’t work’ promoting even another book.” “The site caters to people who are anti-vax‚” he argued. An attachment to the email showed the web page for the book “Anyone Who Tells You Vaccines Are Safe and Effective Is Lying.” Dr. Vernon Coleman‚ a British doctor and vaccine skeptic‚ self-published the book; his website discourages readers from attempting to contact him. Coleman had separately condemned COVID-19 vaccines as a dangerous medical experiment and claimed doctors who administer them are guilty of war crimes. PolitiFact rated his claims “Pants on Fire.” “We need to get a SWAT team together and prepare a briefing later this week‚” the Amazon executive responded to the White House. The context suggests the executive didn’t mean to refer to a police special weapons and tactics team‚ but it remains unclear why the executive used that term. As The Daily Signal exclusively reported Monday‚ Amazon ultimately yielded to White House pressure to take action against vaccine-skeptical books‚ apparently shortly after a meeting with White House staff. An Amazon employee noted that “we did enable Do Not Promote for anti-vax books whose primary purpose is to persuade readers vaccines are unsafe or ineffective on 3/9‚ and will review additional handling options for these books with you‚ [redacted]‚ and [redacted] on 3/19.” Slavitt became notorious when entrepreneur Elon Musk released the internal files of Twitter in 2022 and 2023 after he purchased the company in October 2022. Slavitt appears to have pressured social media companies repeatedly into suppressing opposition to the COVID-19 vaccines. The House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Slavitt on Nov. 30. The committee told Slavitt that it “obtained documents that demonstrate the central role you played in communicating the Biden White House’s censorship efforts to social media companies‚ including the White House’s demands to censor true information‚ memes‚ satire‚ and other constitutionally protected forms of expression.” The White House instructed Slavitt not to appear‚ the Washington Examiner reported Friday. “Everything is on the table‚” a Judiciary Committee spokesman told The Daily Signal about Slavitt’s refusal to abide by the panel’s subpoena. Slavitt also had been involved in discussions with Facebook. That social media company admitted to suppressing “often-true content” because it contradicted the White House’s narrative on COVID-19 vaccines. While discussing the suppression of vaccine-skeptical books‚ Amazon staff noted that the company had received pushback over its controversial decision in February 2021 to remove “When Harry Became Sally‚” Ryan T. Anderson’s book on the transgender movement. Amazon said the book violated its content policy. Anderson is president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center and previously was a senior fellow specializing in marriage and gender identity at The Heritage Foundation. WATCH: Democrat Suggests Biden Admin Big Tech-Censorship Collusion “Doesn’t Exist”

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties‚ subscribe to Reclaim The Net. During a hearing on the “Weaponization of the Federal Government‚” Democrats continued their long-standing tradition of downplaying or denying evidence of the Biden administration pressuring Big Tech platforms to censor Americans‚ despite numerous examples of this censorship collusion being provided during the hearing. The “weaponization” at the center of the hearing included the federal government’s funding of AI-powered censorship and propaganda tools that can be “used by governments and Big Tech to monitor and censor speech at scale.” However‚ the hearing also cited many other examples of censorship‚ including former Biden admin officials demanding content takedowns‚ DHS-linked teams censoring 2020 election-related online speech‚ Biden admin agencies awarding multi-million dollar grants to entities researching AI-censorship tools‚ and the Biden White House pressuring Amazon to censor books that were skeptical of Covid-19 vaccines. Yet‚ several Democrats either argued that the Biden admin either didn’t violate the First Amendment when engaging in this activity or that the censorship at the center of this hearing “doesn’t exist.” Norman Eisen‚ the former US Ambassador to the Czech Republic under President Barack Obama‚ framed those concerned about the Biden admin violating the First Amendment as crying wolf and supported the Supreme Court’s decision to stay an injunction that had prevented the Biden admin from communicating with Big Tech about posts that the administration deems to be harmful. https://video.reclaimthenet.org/articles/democrat-censorship-collusion-doesnt-exist-hearing-feb-24-1.mp4 Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) claimed that the evidence of federal government censorship pressure was “projection” and that the government weaponization that Republicans were focused on “doesn’t exist.” https://video.reclaimthenet.org/articles/democrat-censorship-collusion-doesnt-exist-hearing-feb-24-2.mp4 Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) cited testimony from witnesses behind closed doors to push the idea that “the government has never coerced‚ pressured‚ or threatened any social media company into taking any action” and that this is a “theory” that “falls apart.” https://video.reclaimthenet.org/articles/democrat-censorship-collusion-doesnt-exist-hearing-feb-24-3.mp4 You can watch the full hearing here. Actress Gina Carano Sues Disney After Being Fired For Social Media Posts

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties‚ subscribe to Reclaim The Net. As an intensifying debate over free speech and corporate control in Hollywood rallies‚ Gina Carano‚ a star from The Mandalorian‚ is orchestrating a legal challenge against Disney and Lucasfilm for alleged discrimination and illicit expulsion after she was fired from the company over her social media posts. Her suit is supported financially by Elon Musk‚ a vocal advocate for freedom of speech‚ and critic of Disney‚ who has previously committed to back legal cases for individuals alleging censorship due to their use of his platform‚ X. Carano’s lawsuit‚ lodged in a federal court in California on Tuesday‚ contends she was expelled due to her conservative sentiments shared on social media. We obtained a copy of the lawsuit for you here. Interestingly‚ her legal challenge is not limited to seeking redress‚ but it also includes a plea for a court injunction necessitating her re-hiring at Lucasfilm. As detailed in a public statement from X’s chief of business operations‚ Joe Benarroch‚ Musk is duly proud to financially back Carano’s lawsuit. “As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech‚ we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit‚ empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying‚ harassment‚ or discrimination‚” Benarroch stated. Carano’s departure from The Mandalorian was officially announced by Lucasfilm in 2021 following her social media post which used the idea of how Nazis utilized hatred to get people to turn against their Jewish neighbors. Carano’s firing was notable since her co-star Pedro Pascal also made social media posts that likened the modern day situation on the US border with the Holocaust. Pascal also made multiple posts comparing modern-day scenarios to Nazi Germany and compared President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler. The lawsuit states that left-leaning Star Wars actors‚ such as Mark Hamill‚ also used Nazism as a metaphor to describe elements of today’s politics and were also not fired by Disney. It’s for this reason that many believe that Carano was particularly targeted for being a conservative. The former MMA fighter has a history of conservative stances on contentious issues which have provoked criticism. She has consistently brushed against mainstream perspectives‚ questioning the efficacy of government-imposed masks during the pandemic and speculating about voter manipulation in the 2020 presidential election. Per the legal claim‚ Carano asserts she endured defamation and harassment from Disney and Lucasfilm on account of her unwillingness to align with the companies’ stances on matters extending from Black Lives Matter to preferred pronouns and allegations of election meddling. She alleges her exit was triggered by her cultural and religious convictions; however‚ she contrasts this with her male colleagues’ actions who not only faced lesser repercussions for their controversial posts against Republicans‚ but they were seemingly overlooked by the entertainment behemoth. The legal document further reveals Disney’s attempt to incite a confession from Carano by arranging meetings with representatives from the Gay &; Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination and requesting a public apology. It claims‚ “Defendants pursued persuading Carano’s publicist to coerce Carano to issue a declaration wherein she conceded to ridiculing or offending an entire demographic‚ an action Carano contends she never committed.” In a statement on X‚ Carano posted‚ “The thing is I never even used aggressive language. I shared thought provoking quotes‚ pictures‚ memes &; occasionally I used my own words‚ not with aggression but with respect &; the occasional comedy to keep the mood light in dark times.” The actress added‚ “Look with your own eyes at what I posted and ask yourself‚ for example‚ where did I compare Republicans to the Jewish people in the holocaust? I didn’t. Ask yourself why they were calling me a racist‚ was there any merit behind that or history of it whatsoever?” The post Actress Gina Carano Sues Disney After Being Fired For Social Media Posts appeared first on Reclaim The Net.

Couple Drove to Shelter for One Cat but Ended Up Being Persuaded by Two More from the Same Room

A couple drove to an animal shelter for one cat but ended up being persuaded by two more from the same room. Tara and SteveTwo weeks ago‚ Tara and Steve headed to an animal shelter expecting to adopt a cat. Little did they know what lay in store for them.Their journey to adopt began seven months ago when they lost their beloved 18-year-old brown tabby‚ Jackson. They were heartbroken coming home without the warm welcome and companionship that once filled the space."I didn't know when we would be ready (to adopt again)‚ but I knew we would. Giving another stray baby a home would be the perfect honor to the memory of our boy‚" Tara told Love Meow. ShadowExploitsValleySPCAAfter Christmas‚ Tara and Steve stumbled upon a post from Exploits Valley SPCA about a tabby cat named Shadow. "I instantly knew he was ours. He also gently reminded me of our Jackson‚ and we just fell in love."A few days after they put in an application‚ they received a call from the shelter to set up a meet-and-greet. Thrilled‚ the couple prepared everything from a carrier to supplies to food. During their drive to the shelter‚ the idea of adopting two was loosely suggested. Shadow met Tara and Steve at the shelterTara and SteveThey arrived 45 minutes before the shelter opened. Once inside‚ as much as Tara tried to conceal her excitement‚ she was completely giddy at the thought of the cat."As soon as we saw him‚ we knew that feeling we had was spot on. It was almost like he did as well. Two seconds of being with him‚ and we knew he was coming home with us."Just when the couple thought "mission accomplished‚" their plans began to "deviate." Poco melted into Tara at the shelterTara and SteveWhen they mentioned the possibility of getting a second cat‚ Sarah from the shelter showed them a white and brown boy named Poco‚ who had his eyes on them the whole time. The moment Tara held him in her arms‚ Poco nuzzled under her chin and turned into a purring puddle. "He's like putty. He just wants to snuggle and love you and purr."Then‚ a third cat named Pony‚ a rotund tabby with gorgeous markings‚ caught their eye. PonyExploitsValleySPCAAs if Pony didn't want to be left out‚ he enthusiastically rubbed against Tara and Steve while talking away to them. Before they could decide on a second cat‚ now there were three. As the couple went back and forth‚ weighing their options‚ the cats put on the best "adopt me" performance ever. "It was like they had a group meeting the night before where they prepared ahead of time how to get us to adopt all three." They were adopted together and renamed Flynn‚ Riggs‚ and Chirp (from left to right)Tara and SteveTara and Steve started their day expecting to adopt one cat‚ but it all escalated very quickly. Their household increased from two to five in one fell swoop. The 5-hour ride home was peaceful‚ with Pony seeking occasional hand-holding. After the hectic first two days‚ the house was fully equipped for the three new fur kids‚ now renamed Chirp‚ Flynn‚ and Riggs. Flynn and Riggs are best friendsTara and Steve"They are getting along great together. Flynn and Riggs are besties."Chirp‚ who came from a less-than-ideal situation‚ needed extra reassurance from his parents that he was loved and safe. "Every day‚ we can see he's starting to get that with us. He is very entertaining to watch when he's in full play mode." Chirp needed extra TLCTara and SteveFor Chirp‚ feeding time has become a race for the fastest. The second he hears the cupboard open‚ he flies to the kitchen in the blink of an eye‚ chirping at his humans to hurry things up."Flynn purrs as soon as you touch him and cannot get enough of burrowing into that space between your shoulder and neck." Chirp the distinguished couch man and Flynn the laundry helperTara and Steve"Riggs is a flopper. He is calm and chill and is perfectly happy to wait for his brothers to be fed before him‚" Tara shared."We are very much in love with all three of these guys‚ and we truly feel we were all meant for each other." Riggs is a snuggle bugTara and Steve"Our house finally feels like a home again‚ and our spirits have been lifted. Jackson will never be replaced‚ but he would be happy to know his people are being taken care of and that his home continues to be filled with love and happiness." ‘The Candidate Is Joe!’ Hostin SCREAMS at View Cast to Shut Up‚ Get Behind Biden

‘The Candidate Is Joe!’ Hostin SCREAMS at View Cast to Shut Up‚ Get Behind Biden

The liberal ladies of ABC’s The View had a particularly volatile reaction to former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie telling the network that President Biden was “past his sell-by date” and to get a different candidate. It culminated in staunchly racist and anti-Semitic co-host Sunny Hostin screaming at the panel and demanding everyone shut up‚ get in line‚ and stop speaking ill of Biden immediately. After playing a soundbite of Christie‚ moderator Whoopi Goldberg could barely gather her thoughts before speaking. “You know what‚ ooh‚ my goodness gracious‚” she stumbled to speak. Once she got her footing‚ Goldberg bizarrely argued that Biden “kicked butt a couple days ago” and “did better” than former President Trump in the South Carolina primary. “You know‚ nobody knows what's coming‚ but‚ you know‚ you can't tell Democrats to get –” Goldberg began before being interrupted by apparent involuntary convulsions [see included video]. Holding up Biden’s primary results in South Carolina and comparing them to Trump was bizarre because there was nothing to compare them to. The Republican presidential primary wasn’t scheduled until February 24‚ over two weeks away. “You know‚ I do not like when Republicans tell Democrats what they need to do in their house‚” Hostin indignantly chided. “Why don’t Republicans sweep their own Trump trash first in this house and then give Democrats advice.”     Hostin’s indignation was fairly hypocritical since she and The View have a habit of telling Republicans what to do with their house. Last month‚ the cast bashed Iowa Republicans for voting for Trump‚ they said they wanted former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley to stay in the race to annoy Trump‚ and they literally begged former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney to run third party to pull GOP away from Trump. In whining about Christie not naming a Democrat to replace Biden with‚ co-host Joy Behar tacitly admitted that Democrats don’t have a bench of politicians that could step up. “Why go on TV and say somebody else without naming? Who? FDR? He's dead. Okay? The good ones are all gone‚” she said. Faux-conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin ridiculously suggested they could put up a “generic Democrat” like Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer‚ the COVID tyrant. As the conversation went on‚ Hostin became triggered and started screaming that they should shut up and get behind Biden. She even started spewing falsehoods about how good a president he was: HOSTIN: There isn't going to be another candidate! The candidate is Joe Biden! GOLDBERG: So‚ suck it up! HOSTIN: He has run this country well! He has so much to run on! He's got a better economy‚ inflation is down‚ job growth‚ more job growth than any other president in the past couple of decades! BEHAR: His infrastructure bill. HOSTIN: Infrastructure bill. BEHAR: Created jobs. In reality‚ Biden couldn’t legitimately take credit for the number of jobs created since the vast majority of those were people being allowed to return to work after the pandemic. He also couldn’t reasonably be given credit since he (and his supporters in the liberal media‚ like The View) spent the first three years of his presidency claiming there was nothing he could do about inflation since the office supposedly didn’t hold that kind of power. “He has a platform to run on! The Republicans have zero to run on!” Hostin continued to scream. “The best candidate that the Republicans could come up with is Donald Trump! So‚ again‚ Republicans do not give Democrats advice!” The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s The View February 6‚ 2024 11:03:33 a.m. Eastern (…) CHRIS CHRISTIE: I like President Biden personally. Always have. But‚ you know‚ past his sell-by date. [Cuts back to live] [Audience gasps] WHOOPI GOLDBERG: You know what‚ ooh‚ my goodness gracious. JOY BEHAR: Yeah. GOLDBERG: First of all‚ what are you talking about?! He did -- he kicked butt a couple days ago. SUNNY HOSTIN: South Carolina. GOLDBERG: He did better than you-know-who did. Okay? So‚ it's not – [Applause] You know‚ nobody knows what's coming‚ but‚ you know‚ you can't tell Democrats to get – [starts convulsing] Look‚ you take it. HOSTIN: Okay‚ I have the same thought. You know‚ I do not like when Republicans tell Democrats what they need to do in their house. (…) 11:04:47 a.m. Eastern HOSTIN: Why don’t Republicans sweep their own Trump trash first in this house and then give Democrats advice. BEHAR: To his credit‚ Chris Christie has been sweeping a lot of dirt about the Republicans and‚ you know‚ I like Chris Christie but -- HOSTIN: I don't understand that‚ Joy. BEHAR: Why go on TV and say somebody else without naming. Who? FDR? He's dead. Okay? The good ones are all gone. ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: The bigger problem too‚ because I actually agree with him. I think a generic Democrat would do better -- BEHAR: Who. Give me a name. FARAH GRIFFIN: Throw – I mean – Gretchen Whitmer – (…) 11:07:21 a.m. Eastern HOSTIN: There isn't going to be another candidate! The candidate is Joe Biden! GOLDBERG: So‚ suck it up! HOSTIN: He has run this country well! He has so much to run on! He's got better economy‚ inflation is down‚ job growth‚ more job growth than any other president in the past couple of decades! BEHAR: His infrastructure bill. HOSTIN: Infrastructure bill. BEHAR: Created jobs. [Crosstalk] HOSTIN: Wait a second. He has a platform to run on! The Republicans have zero to run on! BEHAR: Nothing. Nothing. HOSTIN: The best candidate that the Republicans could come up with is Donald Trump! So‚ again‚ Republicans do not give Democrats advice! [Crosstalk] SARA HAINES: Just have a fair‚ open conversation. What Alyssa is bringing to the table is something you see all over‚ people are talking about this. This isn't a fringe idea. HOSTIN: There was a Quinnipiac poll that just had Biden beating Trump. [Crosstalk] HAINES: The ratings are 37 percent. [Crosstalk] FARAH GRIFFIN: There is another poll that has him losing in every single battleground state by double digits to Donald Trump. [Goldberg shouting over them to stop talking about polls] (…)

‘Vibes...Are Not Good’; Nets Fret Trump ‘Told’ GOP ‘To Walk Away’ From Border Deal

As NewsBusters has documented‚ ABC‚ CBS‚ and NBC used their Monday morning and evening news shows to run crisis communications for the Biden administration and U.S. Senate to promote their border deal. By Tuesday morning‚ it turned towards shaming Republicans as they whined “the vibes in Washington are not good” as Donald Trump “told” Republicans to ensure they “tanked” the deal. Once again‚ ABC’s Good Morning America led the way in its partisanship‚ starting with co-host and former Clinton official George Stephanopoulos again bashing the impending impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.     “To Washington now where House Republicans and former President Trump have tanked the Senate’s bipartisan border security bill as they set a vote to impeach Homeland Secretary Mayorkas despite no evidence of impeachable offenses‚” Stephanopoulos proclaimed. Senior congressional correspondent Rachel Scott followed suit as a liberal tool: And it’s been nearly 150 years since a cabinet secretary was impeached by the House‚ but never over a policy dispute. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was deeply involved in those Senate negotiations. That border deal? Now on thin ice. Scott continued to use the liberal line of touting the amount of money thrown at a problem as if it’s indicative of success and promoted the liberal line that Republicans only oppose the deal because Trump told them to (click “expand”): SCOTT: The bill includes $20 billion for border security‚ forcing the border to shut down when migrant apprehensions reach 5‚000 a day‚ and making it more difficult to apply for asylum in the U.S. The package also adds $60 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel. Months ago Mike Johnson called for a compromise like this one. JOHNSON [on 11/02/23] We want to pair border security with Ukraine because I think we can get bipartisan agreement on both of those matters. SCOTT: But that was before Donald Trump weighed in. DONALD TRUMP [on Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt Tonight‚ 02/05/24]: It’s a trap for Republicans. That would be so stupid‚ so foolish to sign a bill like this. SCOTT [TO LANKFORD]: Is the pressure from Trump misguided? Is it helpful? SENATOR JAMES LANKFORD (R-OK): He’s trying to get elected to be the President of the United States. I have got something I’m trying to accomplish. It’s securing the nation and our border right now. SCOTT: Senate negotiators touting that the bill is even supported by the conservative-leaning border patrol union‚ which calls it a step in the right direction. SENATOR CHRIS MURPHY (D-CT): Many Senate Republicans are going to oppose this because it’s too effective‚ because Donald Trump is telling them no‚ keep chaos at the border. Don’t solve the problem because that’s good politics for us. Well‚ that’s really bad for the country. Shifting over to the peacock network‚ NBC’s Today followed the same pattern as Monday with co-host Hoda Kotb using an opening tease to poo-poo the GOP: “Border battle. Senate Republicans now threatening to block the bill they negotiated to crack down on illegal crossings. The Speaker of the House already saying it has zero chance of passing.” Later on‚ Capitol Hill correspondent Ryan Nobles had the segment and sounded like a reality TV and or college fraternity bro when he bemoaned that “the vibes” in D.C. “are not good” because of the GOP: And the border crisis is extending to cities across the country‚ but here in Washington‚ a solution remains elusive. And‚ much like the last four decades‚ Republicans and Democrats are blaming each other for the growing immigration problem. The vibes in Washington are not good. Republicans and Democrats both raising serious concerns about the $118 billion national security package to the point where the bill’s future is in serious doubt. Without diving into why Republicans might oppose this on policy grounds‚ Nobles accepted the left’s excuse: “But the Democrat who led the negotiations‚ Senator Chris Murphy‚ says the concerns are not related to the policy‚ but instead the politics of an election year.” Nobles explained that‚ in turn‚ “there will be no path towards changing the situation” and included sound of the Democrat Texas sheriff saying the need to act now isn’t “a red and blue issue.” Nobles also touched on the Mayorkas impeachment‚ stating that’s the GOP’s priority along with declaring “the bill dead on arrival” as‚ on the former‚ they “can only afford to lose two votes after Ken Buck of Colorado said he plans to vote no” on what “Mayorkas has called...a political stunt.” CBS Mornings came out swinging with this from co-host Tony Dokoupil: [T]he Senate immigration compromise — well‚ it’s gotten a big endorsement by a group that knows the issue well‚ the generally right-leaning union for border patrol agents‚ the people actually down there. But it doesn’t look like it’s going to matter because Republicans are being told to walk away from the deal by former President Donald Trump. Nikole Killion reports now on the politics that are killing this deal. Shortly after acknowledging “[t]he bipartisan border compromise is now on life support‚” congressional correspondent Nikole Killion pointed to “Trump...urging Republicans lawmakers to kill the package”‚ adding (click “expand”): KILLION: The measure would be one of the strictest border policies in decades‚ requiring the border to be temporarily shut down when migrant crossings hit 5‚000 a day‚ boosting the number of border patrol agents‚ and speeding up the asylum process in an effort to end the controversial catch-and-release policy.  SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON [on FNC’s The Ingraham Angle‚ 02/05/24]: It would not resolve any of the problems. KILLION: House Speaker Mike Johnson‚ a Trump ally‚ is urging fellow Republicans to reject the deal‚ knowing immigration policy is a political vulnerability for President Biden. (....) KILLION: Meantime‚ the House is preparing to move forward with an impeachment vote today against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas‚ who helped negotiate this border deal. If passed‚ he would become only the second cabinet official in U.S. history to face impeachment‚ Tony. DOKOUPIL: Politics there at play as well.
