Coconut Octopus Gets A Helping Hand From A Clever “Spy.”

Technology is amazing. Marine explorers are using remote-controlled “spy” sea animals to explore the ocean floor. One little spy octopus recently helped a live coconut octopus when predators arrived. The actions of the tiny robot saved the coconut octopus’s life. What Is A Spy Octopus And Why Is It Used? The spy octopus is exploring the ocean floor on behalf of John Downer Productions. They are a media company providing television audiences with wildlife films beyond the typical nature documentary. The film company uses robot spy cameras disguised as different marine creatures. This unique vantage offers an up-close look at sea life. While not an exact replica‚ the spy octopus is designed to look like and mimic the movement of a real coconut octopus. They do a pretty darn good impression of a real octopus! Image from YouTube. In our featured clip‚ we watch a fantastic bit of filmography. A real coconut octopus passes the spy robot octopus. Blacktip sharks appear on the scene looking for their favorite meal — coconut octopus! The real octopus finds a camouflaged hiding spot‚ but it isn’t optimal. Image from YouTube. The coconut octopus is one of the most intelligent of the non-vertebrates. In addition to its central brain‚ each tentacle has a separate brain. The nine brains can work independently or in sync with each other. It did not take the little fellow long to spot a better hiding spot inside a hollow bamboo stick. Image from YouTube. The robot octopus‚ controlled by humans from afar‚ observes this sequence of events. With some quick thinking‚ the robot grabs a coconut shell and walks off toward the real fellow hiding in the hollow log. Spotting the robot‚ the real coconut octopus realizes that the coconut shell would be a perfect door to his hiding spot. Image from YouTube. The real octopus deftly and unremorsefully steals the coconut shell and returns to hiding. He places the shell over the hollow tube as a makeshift door. Image from YouTube. Once the predators leave the area‚ the little coconut octopus emerges from its hiding spot and does the coolest thing ever! He finds his new friend‚ the spy octopus‚ and gives him an adorable hug! Image from YouTube. Watch The Full Video Of The Octopus Interacting With The Spy Robot If you are interested in viewing the portion of the documentary on this unforgettable encounter‚ you can watch it here on YouTube. The clip below is shorter and contains all the highlights. With that said‚ the still pictures and my words pale in comparison to the actual footage! Be sure to share this fantastic sea adventure with your family and friends! @thatgoodnewsgirl This coconut octopus has a spy friend looking out for him! The spy octopus recently even saved him from some blacktip sharks. See more of the spy animal series by John Downer on PBS. Yes‚ There's A Scientifically "Best" Way To Have A Bath. This Is It

We all love a long‚ hot soak in the tub to help relieve the stresses of the day. Unfortunately‚ it turns out the latest thing to add to that stress… might actually be the bath itself. That’s right: according to the internet (which is never wrong)‚ taking a bath is bad for you. Can it really be true?Well – kind of‚ yeah. But it’s not all bad news‚ we promise. What’s the claim?Spend long enough online‚ and you’ll find someone saying just about anything is bad for you – often with pretty spurious reasoning to back it up. In the case of baths‚ however‚ the claim is pretty specific: indulging in a long‚ hot bath can cause skin irritation and inflammation‚ and should be avoided. In fact‚ some people go so far as to say that we should do the exact opposite‚ and keep our baths and showers icy-cold for maximum health benefits. But how can that gel with how good a lovely soak in the bath feels? Or the long history of people enjoying baths – surely all Romans didn’t have terrible acne and rashes all the time? More to the point‚ how can it gel with those other claims you’ve seen around – the ones saying that sitting in a tub of hot water for hours actually has multiple health benefits‚ and is basically the equivalent of a workout? It’s all pretty confusing. So what’s the truth?Baths: the goodThere’s a reason most of us like baths so much‚ and it’s not because they make us feel worse. “Taking a bath has great physical and mental health benefits‚” said Cleveland Clinic family medicine provider Dr Amy Zack. “Soaking in a tub is something many people have access to but don’t take advantage of enough. But it can be beneficial for a lot of people.”Indeed‚ evidence has shown that people who take baths are likely to be less angry‚ less stressed‚ less anxious‚ and less depressed than those who only shower. Frequent baths make you feel healthier and sleep better‚ and‚ pretty much by definition‚ they get us clean.“Bathing cleans your skin‚ helping you avoid irritation‚ inflammation and sores caused by dead skin cell accumulation‚” Dr Zack explained. “It can also help you clear away the bacterial and fungal load from contact in your environment. As that accumulates‚ it increases your risk of infection.”  But it turns out their benefits may go even deeper. While balneotherapy – aka hydrotherapy‚ aka sitting in a bath for medicinal purposes – has been around for centuries‚ its scientific credentials have traditionally been seen as about the equivalent as‚ say‚ homeopathy. There’s a good reason for that: despite what Dr Kellogg (yes‚ the cornflake masturbation guy) may tell you‚ no amount of baths will cure your diabetes or infertility. But recent research does suggest that a nice hot dunk actually can have some therapeutic effects. “In the last few decades evidence has been growing‚” wrote Charles Steward‚ a PhD candidate at Coventry University in the Centre for Sport‚ Exercise and Life Sciences‚ “and today we know that regular bathing in a sauna or hot tub can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease – and may well have wider health benefits too.”How can a hot bath – or‚ more likely‚ a hot tub or sauna – help your heart health? It may be the effect of a confounding variable‚ Steward cautioned – but there are potential biological explanations too. “On the basis that cardiovascular disease is primarily caused by diseases of the artery‚ it’s probable that improvements in blood vessel health – which we now know occurs with regular heat therapy – is a large reason for the reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease‚” he explained.Other studies have linked frequent‚ hour-long hot tub sessions to a reduction in both blood glucose levels and a wide range of symptoms associated with polycystic ovary syndrome. So‚ uh… guess we owe you an apology on that one‚ Kellogg.Baths: the badHere’s the thing. There’s a pretty big caveat to all those bath benefits‚ and it’s that‚ in practice‚ you’re not going to see them without some specialist equipment. “I want to point out that the water temperatures and lengths of time mentioned above are not representative of your everyday bath‚” Steward noted. “In your conventional bath tub‚ the temperature will gradually drop… when using my hot tub in the lab‚ I must carefully monitor my volunteers for safety reasons: I measure their core body temperature (using a rectal thermometer)‚ blood pressure and constantly check in with how comfortable they are with the heat of the water.”Since the presence of anything starting with the word “rectal” is likely to reduce the whole stress-relieving‚ meditative aspect of your me-time‚ is there any benefit to having just a regular hot bath?Well‚ possibly – but unfortunately‚ it’ll also come with some real downsides‚ particularly for your skin. “Hot water can be abrasive‚ stripping the skin of its natural oils‚ which leaves it dehydrated and dull-looking‚” Dr Stacy Chimento‚ board-certified dermatologist at Riverchase Dermatology in Miami Beach‚ Florida‚ told Well + Good. “If you get the water on your face as well‚ this can cause acne flare-ups‚ breakouts‚ and skin irritation.” You can think of the outermost layer of skin‚ the epidermis‚ like a knife covered in a layer of butter‚ according to Dr Melissa Piliang‚ a dermatologist with the Cleveland Clinic: under cold water‚ the fatty lipid layer that protects our skin holds fast – but hot water makes it melt away. That’s bad news‚ because this layer “is what keeps bad water and germs out and good water in‚ and keeps our skin moisturized‚” Piliang told the Wall Street Journal. Our bodies will replenish that lipid layer‚ but it takes longer the older we get – and you can’t even speed the process up using commercial moisturizers‚ she cautioned. The optimum bath: 15 minutes and 44°CSo‚ is there any way to balance the self-care of a hot soak with the skin care of… well‚ not doing that? Apparently‚ yes‚ there is – and it’s surprisingly exact.First‚ the length of time you spend in the tub: “When taking a bath‚ you should try to limit it to 15 minutes‚” Chimento told Well + Good. “Anything longer than that will begin to strip the skin of its natural oils‚ leading to inflammation and irritation.”That’s a bit of a shame‚ because according to a recent survey by UK bathroom retailer Victorian Plumbing‚ 21 minutes is the ideal length for relaxation purposes. Fifteen minutes is also likely shorter than you currently spend in the tub‚ which means cutting down on those lovely sudsy seconds.Secondly‚ you’re going to want to make sure the water isn’t too hot. Chimento advises keeping the water between 37°C to 43°C (100°F to 110°F) – warm‚ but not uncomfortably so – while Piliang gets even more granular: 44.4°C (112°F) is perfect‚ she says‚ “though you’d have to put a thermometer under the spigot to get an exact reading.”Oh – and as for those sadists who tell you your baths and showers should be ice cold for maximum health benefits? Don’t listen to them. After all‚ the experts don’t. “If you are someone who thinks a cold shower… is as awakening in the morning as a cup of coffee‚ I don’t think taking one is dangerous‚” Piliang said. “It just depends on how much agony you want.”

This Meteorite Is Likely The Remains Of An Extinct Ancient Protoplanet

In May 2020‚ in the Erg Chech region of the Sahara Desert in Algeria‚ scientists discovered several pieces of meteorite like no other we have found.Earth gets hit by meteorites fairly frequently‚ with thousands of pieces of space rock falling onto the planet every year‚ giving us an opportunity to study rock formation in the early Solar System. Erg Chech 002‚ as the meteorite was designated‚ was particularly interesting to scientists due to its age‚ containing minerals that crystalized around 4.56556 billion years ago‚ making it slightly older than Earth‚ and from the very dawn of the Solar System. The rock was determined to be an “ungrouped achondrite” – a type of rock formed from melted minor planets in the early Solar System."Despite the large number of samples in the meteorite record that originate from the crust or mantle of rocky bodies (about 3‚100 are known today)‚ these rocks provide an incomplete picture of the diversity of the differentiated bodies that formed in the early Solar System‚" one team studying Erg Chech 002 explained in a 2021 paper. Ninety-five percent of these meteorites are believed to come from just two places: 75 percent from the crust of a large asteroid‚ presumed to be 4 Vesta‚ and 20 percent from the mantle of an even larger body‚ which is presumed to have been destroyed.Achondrites are usually basaltic‚ formed from the rapid cooling of magma. This one was different‚ the bulk of the composition being andesite. It's possible that andesite meteors are formed by the melting of objects made of chondrite‚ which were thought to be common in the early Solar System. However‚ the fact that we haven't found similar meteorites to Erg Chech 002 suggests that most of these early pieces of information on our Solar System's formation may have been largely destroyed or buried deep within other bodies as it evolved."EC 002 is clearly distinguishable from all asteroid groups‚ and no object with spectral characteristics similar to EC 002 has been identified to date‚" the team wrote in their paper. "This suggests that the earliest differentiated protoplanets that populated the Solar System‚ as well as most of their debris‚ were certainly destroyed or subsequently accreted to the growing rocky planets‚ making the discovery of meteorites originating from primordial crusts an exceptional occurrence."The paper is published in PNAS.

CIA has been searching for crashed UFOs around the world for decades

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has allegedly been conducting searches for unidentified flying objects (UFOs) for decades‚ reports the British edition of the Daily Mail. Anonymous sources‚ reportedly including representatives from within the CIA‚ have mentioned the existence of a covert department responsible for coordinating the investigation of crashed UFO incidents worldwide. The British edition of the Daily Mail reported on this matter. The Daily Mail quoted‚ “A clandestine CIA division has supposedly overseen searches for crashed UFOs across the globe for many years‚ as per multiple sources.” According to these sources‚ the CIA utilizes a distinct system designed to identify UFOs even when they are concealed. If an otherworldly craft lands‚ crashes‚ or is brought down‚ specialized military units are allegedly dispatched to the site to collect debris. One source suggests that the CIA’s global operations extend beyond the United States to investigate UFO incidents‚ granting secretive access to various regions worldwide‚ including those in adversarial nations. An informant has even asserted that the CIA possesses a minimum of nine extraterrestrial crafts‚ with two of them purportedly intact. Republican Congressman Eric Burlison mentioned that these reports have motivated him and his colleagues to conduct further inquiries. “These are the kind of specific programs we’ve been trying to get the names of‚” he said. “It’s been so difficult because we can’t get that information with specifics from Grusch or from the [Intelligence Community] Inspector General. “I can’t confirm it’s true. But it certainly gives us a trail to follow. “I think that if it does exist‚ even if they give us no information beyond that‚ I think we owe it to the world to disclose that‚” the politician remarked. Additionally‚ US authorities recently launched a website dedicated to managing anomalous phenomena. The purpose of the site is to inform the public about the latest developments in the realm of UFOs and to stress the importance of reporting encounters with unidentified aerial objects to both military and civilian pilots. Congress has already conducted hearings regarding the issue of UFOs and how governmental bodies handle reports concerning them. During these discussions‚ some participants argued that the US government not only possesses wreckage from these devices but potentially also remains of “non-human” beings associated with these craft. Large-headed alien creature filmed in Fresno parking lot

The video (see below)‚ uploaded on November 10‚ 2023‚ claims to show a strange creature with a huge head and a slender body moving around a parking lot in Fresno‚ CA‚ in the middle of the night. The creature has a head that resembles an insect‚ and moves in a way that defies gravity and logic. It seems to be aware of its surroundings‚ as it avoids bumping into the parked cars. The video ends with the creature disappearing into the darkness‚ leaving behind a trail of mystery and speculation. The narrator of the video compares the Fresno footage to another famous case of an alleged alien creature captured on tape in Metepec‚ Mexico‚ in 1994. But is it really an alien visitor‚ or just another elaborate prank? And if it is an alien‚ what is its purpose and origin? Is it friendly or hostile? And why did it choose Fresno as its destination? These are some of the questions that UFOvni2012 and its viewers are trying to answer‚ as they analyze every detail of the video and look for clues. Some commenters have suggested that the creature is a drone or a puppet controlled by wires or magnets. Others have proposed that it is a mutated animal or a genetic experiment gone wrong. There are those who believe that it is a genuine extraterrestrial being that came to Earth for some unknown reason. Parents Magazine Warns of ‘Islamophobia‚’ Blames Child-Killing Israel‚ Not Hamas

Who had Parents magazine on their bingo card as running one of the most one-sided stories on the Israel-Hamas war? The magazine of child-raising tips‚ online-only since 2022‚ has grown-up to be a home of ignorant rants like a smear against Moms for Liberty‚ “How 'Klanned Karenhood' Is Infiltrating Schools.” Contributor Syeda Khaula Saad didn’t try to disguise her slant in “How To Talk to Kids About Islamophobia.” The sub-head served as a sample of Hamas-denial: “As attacks on Palestine intensify‚ anti-Muslim rhetoric and violence have increased worldwide. Here's some guidance on how to explain Islamophobia to children.” It’s a clumsy piece of pro-Palestinian‚ anti-Israeli propaganda under the guise of one of those sensitive “how to talk to your children” pieces. Saad led with dubious statistics from one of the most notorious Islamic pressure groups‚ the Hamas-linked CAIR.  The recent news cycle covering the conflict between Israel and Palestine has spiked Islamophobic sentiments within the US The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)‚ the “largest grassroots Islamic civil liberties organization” in the country‚ has reported an appalling 245% increase in reported anti-Muslim instances since then. In fact the rampant increase in Islamophobic incidents‚ including the highly-publicized stabbing of 6-year-old Palestinian-American Wadea Al Fayoume‚ resulted in President Joe Biden announcing the first US National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia on November 1‚ 2023. Saad offensively downplayed Hamas into a “militant group” that merely “took hostages‚” mentioning the Palestinian terrorist group exactly once‚ while providing a bogus potted history of the region that put all the blame on Israel and the “Nakba” of 1948‚ ignoring the five-nation Arab invasion that started the 75-year-old conflict‚ which began the day Israel declaring independence on May 14‚ 1948. After the Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel and took hostages‚ Israel responded by launching airstrikes in Gaza‚ resulting in mass civilian casualties‚ including more than 4‚000 children since early October. These events are the continuation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that has been ongoing for more than 75 years‚ marking decades of violence and bloodshed since the 1948 “Nakba‚” or mass displacement of more than 700‚000 Palestinians from their homes to create Israel. Understanding the history of this conflict and these particular anti-Palestinian prejudices is critical to understanding the current spike in Islamophobic rhetoric and attacks. Saad skipped right over the terrorist attacks of 2001 to get to the true victims: Muslims in America. Not even comedian Amy Schumer was spared in her ridiculously thin and tiny roundup of Islamophobia from celebrities. After the 9/11 attacks in 2001‚ Islamophobia around the U.S. increased at an alarming rate. Even 20 years later‚ Muslims in America face instances of anti-Muslim violence every day. But it isn’t just the post-9/11 world that spurs these discriminatory feelings. Former President Donald J. Trump’s entire 2016 election campaign heavily invoked anti-Muslim sentiments. Since October 7‚ plenty of anti-Muslim hate and propaganda has been spread not only by mainstream media but by celebrities as well. Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp liked an Islamophobic video mocking Muslims and pushing dangerous anti-Muslim stereotypes. Amy Schumer posted a satirical comic where a pro-Palestine protest goer is holding up a sign that reads “Stab Jews for Allah.” In these instances‚ like many others‚ stereotypes of Muslims being terrorists and barbarians are perpetuated. Hamas is a terrorist group‚ of course‚ something Saad refused to admit. The author found a real radical‚ Farida Mallah of Teaching While Muslim‚ who told the readers of (yes‚ again) Parents magazine not to trust the media or the government. “They have a responsibility to do the research before they read or address propaganda perpetuated by the media and the government‚” Mallah says of non-Muslim parents. “And they need to build bridges with our Muslim community members in order for them to understand how [Islamophobia] directly affects us.”

Column: Worrying About Joe Biden Getting 'Credit' for His 'Achievements' on PBS

One way you know that most journalists are Democrats is their energetic work presenting about 37 ways the Republican Party may collapse into rubble in the near future‚ versus their cautious beating around bushes about problems the Democratic Party may have -- but maybe they’ll all vanish. The Monday political roundtable on the PBS NewsHour took a few minutes to address how Biden may have a problem since young “progressives” in his party hate Israel as a deplorable pack of oppressive white supremacists. Anchor Geoff Bennett cited a Washington Post headline: "Biden's resistance to ceasefire could alienate youth voters in 2024." The Post account noted an NBC News poll found that 70 percent of voters aged 18 to 34 disapprove of Biden’s handling of the war‚ and he’s struggling with Muslims‚ “many of whom feel he has shown a lack of sympathy for Palestinian civilians.” The Democrats loved to use “Islamophobia” against Donald Trump‚ and now they’re getting painted into a corner as the Israel-loving Islamophobes. It’s almost comical to watch PBS pundits try to explain these problems in the most milquetoast fashion. Political analyst Amy Walter claimed “for many older voters‚ this is a geopolitical issue‚ and for younger voters‚ this is a human rights issue.” Somehow‚ Israel is presented as an opponent of “human rights‚” and the Hamas terrorists‚ who indiscriminately slaughtered Israeli civilians‚ are the sympathetic victims. Walter explained that younger voters use a lens “in which race and privilege and access is the main focus‚ versus one that is really looking at this as what's the stability in the region‚ who's at fault‚ what does it mean for the rest of the world.” Israel represents white privilege‚ and the Palestinians are apparently like blacks in segregated America. A ceasefire might be a temporary boost for Biden‚ but it’s “not changing the nature of the conversation about what it means to be Palestinian.” Walter was trying to sound academic and face no questioning about how “being Palestinian” somehow justifies October 7 or the years of lobbing missiles from Gaza on Israel’s civilians. Anchorman Bennett wasn’t questioning the Rashida Tlaib position spreading on the radical left. You would never call this view “pro-Hamas” on PBS‚ but it’s staunchly opposing the Israelis as the villains in this war. Then PBS turned to NPR White House correspondent Tamara Keith‚ who is routinely asked to reflect and re-state the White House position. She’s literally a spokesperson for Biden. Bennett asked‚ “Tam‚ how does the White House see it?...President Biden‚ the White House‚ I'm told‚ feels that he doesn't always get the credit for doing the work‚ because he doesn't do the work in a way that's properly politically theatrical.” PBS worried about Biden not receiving “credit” on the war in Israel‚ like this dreadful war doesn’t make him look like a geopolitical boob. No‚ the problem is framed as Biden isn’t “properly theatrical‚” like Barack Obama. That would require engaging with the press‚ which the White House clearly finds terrifying. Call her Tamara Jean-Pierre Keith as she explained Biden “very much does not make a public show of things until after it's done. And then he tries to claim credit‚ like with all of his economic accomplishments. And then he can't get the credit. And it's already baked in. And that's just the story of Joe Biden.” Keith can state with a straight face that Biden has “economic accomplishments.” PBS would never describe Republicans as having any “economic accomplishments‚” but Biden’s Jimmy Carter rerun isn’t getting enough credit. Why must conservative taxpayers involuntarily fund this Democrat echo chamber? On PBS @NewsHour‚ they asked NPR's Tamara Keith why Biden doesn't get enough credit. Biden “very much does not make a public show of things until after it's done. And then he tries to claim credit‚ like with all of his economic accomplishments. And then he can't get the credit." pic.twitter.com/RcE2pbWO7j — Tim Graham (@TimJGraham) November 29‚ 2023
