CNBC Guest Lambasts Biden: Attack on Natural Gas 'Bad for Consumers'

American Petroleum Institute CEO Mike Sommers eviscerated the Biden administration for stealing America’s energy future‚ in more ways than one.  Sommers told CNBC anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin during the Jan. 29 edition of Squawk Box that President Joe Biden’s announcement to abruptly halt liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports was concerning. “As you know‚ investment goes where it's welcome‚ and unfortunately‚ the administration's decision‚ I think‚ is going to push investment away from the United States into other countries‚” Sommers said. “This is a decision that's bad for consumers; it's bad for American national security and it's certainly bad for American allies.” Sommers said the export of liquefied natural gas has helped lower the price of natural gas‚ further raising concerns that the Jan. 26 move to pause liquefied natural gas projects was  a “political decision to appease a part of their political party's base in an election year.” The American Petroleum Institute CEO listed several benefits ignored by the Biden administration such as American “soft power” in regions benefiting from U.S.-produced energy. He also mentioned that LNG lowers the prices Americans have to pay for energy.  When Sorkin tried to give Biden credit for American energy successes‚ Sommers quickly set him straight. Sommers made clear that American production succeeded “despite Biden administration policies‚” but warned that this could not continue forever: “We're going to go through a year‚ for example‚ this year in 2024‚ where we will have zero lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. We're down in terms of leasing on federal lands by 96%. They've taken over 500‚000 acres offline in the state of Alaska‚ the national petroleum refuge. Most of this new development is actually on private lands‚ not on public lands‚ and unfortunately‚ we still get 25% of American production on public lands and in public waters. So this administration continues to try to tap the brakes on American energy production at a time.”  Sommers hammered this point again in case his warning went unheeded. “We're sowing the seeds for an energy crisis in the future because we're not making those investments here in the United States‚” Sommers mentioned‚ emphasizing that the United States is still benefiting from former energy projects. Conservatives are under attack! Contact ABC News at 818-460-7477‚ CBS News at 212-975-3247 and NBC News at 212-664-6192 and demand they hold Biden and his cronies accountable for attempting to restrict fossil fuel production and Americans’ choices

PBS Smear Hour: Accusing Trump‚ Fox News‚ and Republicans of ‘Dog-Whistle’ Racism

PBS Smear Hour: Accusing Trump‚ Fox News‚ and Republicans of ‘Dog-Whistle’ Racism

The PBS NewsHour fiercely attacked both presidential candidate Donald Trump and its journalistic competitors Fox News for racism in a segment that appeared online under the heading “Trump deploys racist tactics as Biden rematch appears likely.” They reached back to smear Nixon and Reagan as well.  Anchor Amna Nawaz sent up the warning flare. "Republicans are increasingly coalescing around former President Donald Trump‚ even as the likely GOP presidential nominee continues to use racist and incendiary language." Then PBS ran the supposedly “racist and incendiary” clip about illegal immigrants "poisoning the blood" of the country and Nawaz summarized: "From circulating baseless conspiracies about his presidential rivals to demonizing immigrants‚ Trump's rhetoric has reshaped the party's base." White House correspondent Laura Barron-Lopez filled PBS viewers in on the supposedly Hitleresque horrors pouring out of Trump’s mouth. Barron-Lopez: So‚ in addition to what we just heard‚ Amna‚ the former president repeatedly saying that migrants are poisoning the blood of the country‚ which historians of Nazi Germany point out is echoing Adolf Hitler's language‚ in addition to that‚ he's also deployed racist tactics against his chief rival‚ Nikki Haley‚ the last woman standing against him‚ questioning her citizenship‚ her American citizenship…. Later Barron-Lopez broadened her accusations. Barron-Lopez: There is a playbook that has been used by Republican politicians in the past that appeals to fears of the other‚ fears of brown and black people. We saw it used by Richard Nixon. We have seen it used by Ronald Reagan. And so this is something that isn't necessarily new to the Republican Party. The academic backer of this smear was leftist Berkeley professor Ian Haney Lopez‚ whose website says he's "actively promoted the idea of a race-class fusion as the basis for a multi-racial progressive majority." His latest book is titled Merge Left: Fusing Race and Class‚ Winning Elections‚ and Saving America  They talked about "dog-whistle politics‚" which dehumanizes Republican voters to the level of dogs.  Ian Haney Lopez‚ U.C. Berkeley: What's happening with dog-whistle politics is you have these politicians who are strategically‚ intentionally‚ purposefully seeking to exploit people's unconscious vulnerability by saying “welfare queen‚ illegal alien‚ terrorist‚ gangbanger‚” terms that they know will trigger unconscious racist views‚ but which they can also say‚ hey‚ I didn't say anything racist. I didn't use a racial epithet. I didn't mention skin color. Barron-Lopez: Professor Lopez added that dog-whistle politics is effective because it animates fear and anger among voters. And when voters become fearful or angry‚ they don't really listen to any other arguments. Then they turned to former Republicans for another left-wing take:  Nawaz: So tell us more about those voters. How is this rhetoric and this language resonating among those Republican voters? Barron-Lopez: I spoke to Denver Riggleman‚ a former GOP congressman from Virginia‚ and he said that this -- these types of racist appeals and nativism from Trump and from other Republicans is essentially infecting the Republican voting base….in 2012‚ the Republican National Committee‚ after that presidential election and their losses there‚ decided that they needed to be a more inclusive party. They issued an autopsy report that said that they were losing young voters‚ that minorities thought that their party didn't want them in the country. But then‚ when Donald Trump won in 2016‚ he essentially sent the party down a totally different path. And it basically convinced the Republican Party that he could issue a playbook of dog-whistle politics and win. I asked Professor Lopez what impact that could have on the larger country. Her source came through‚ blaming Fox News as well. Haney Lopez: The tragedy is that Republican leadership and also important media outlets like FOX News have convinced a significant portion of Americans that their best future depends on rejecting and indeed actively fighting against a multiracial democracy. But we're already a multiracial society. What we stand to lose then is our democracy and a society that works for all of us. This deeply Republican-insulting segment was brought to you in part by Cunard. A transcript is available‚ click “Expand.” PBS NewsHour 1/26/24 7:26:18 p.m. (ET) Amna Nawaz: Republicans are increasingly coalescing around former President Donald Trump ‚ even as the likely GOP presidential nominee continues to use racist and incendiary language. Donald Trump ‚ Former President of the United States (R) and Current U.S. Presidential Candidate: They're poisoning the blood of our country. That's what they have done. They poison mental institutions and prisons all over the world‚ not just in South America‚ not just the three or four countries that we think about. But all over the world‚ they're coming into our country‚ from Africa‚ from Asia‚ all over the world. They're pouring into our country. Nobody's even looking at them. Amna Nawaz: From circulating baseless conspiracies about his presidential rivals to demonizing immigrants‚ Trump's rhetoric has reshaped the party's base. White House correspondent Laura Barron-Lopez has been covering this‚ and she joins me now. Good to see you‚ Laura. Laura Barron-Lopez: Good to be here. Amna Nawaz: So‚ when we talk about the rhetoric‚ what kind of language are we talking about? What has Mr. Trump been saying on the campaign so far? Laura Barron-Lopez: So‚ in addition to what we just heard‚ Amna‚ the former president repeatedly saying that migrants are poisoning the blood of the country‚ which historians of Nazi Germany point out is echoing Adolf Hitler's language‚ in addition to that‚ he's also deployed racist tactics against his chief rival‚ Nikki Haley‚ the last woman standing against him‚ questioning her citizenship‚ her American citizenship. On TRUTH Social‚ he reposted an account‚ the Gateway Pundit‚ that questioned whether or not she was eligible to be the president of the United States and questioned her American bona fides. And then he also has repeatedly‚ Amna‚ used her birth name‚ but mispronounced it‚ saying Nikki Nimarata Haley when talking about her. And so this isn't the first time that the president has deployed tactics like that. You will remember that he repeatedly questioned former President Barack Obama's citizenship and repeatedly asked for his birth certificate and called him Barack Hussein Obama over and over again. Amna Nawaz: This is all‚ as you mentioned‚ part of his presidential campaign. Is there a political strategy behind all of this? Laura Barron-Lopez: There is a playbook that has been used by Republican politicians in the past that appeals to fears of the other‚ fears of brown and black people. We saw it used by Richard Nixon. We have seen it used by Ronald Reagan. And so this is something that isn't necessarily new to the Republican Party. But I spoke to Ian Haney Lopez‚ who is from U.C. Berkeley‚ and he's a professor of race and constitutional law. And he explained how dog whistle politics animates American voters. Ian Haney Lopez‚ U.C. Berkeley: What's happening with dog whistle politics is‚ you have these politicians who are strategically‚ intentionally‚ purposefully seeking to exploit people's unconscious vulnerability by saying welfare queen‚ illegal alien‚ terrorist‚ gangbanger‚ terms that they know will trigger unconscious racist views‚ but which they can also say‚ hey‚ I didn't say anything racist. I didn't use a racial epithet. I didn't mention skin color. Laura Barron-Lopez: Professor Lopez added that dog-whistle politics is effective because it animates fear and anger among voters. And when voters become fearful or angry‚ they don't really listen to any other arguments. Amna Nawaz: So tell us more about those voters. How is this rhetoric and this language resonating among those Republican voters? Laura Barron-Lopez: I spoke to Denver Riggleman‚ a former GOP congressman from Virginia‚ and he said that this — these types of racist appeals and nativism from Trump and from other Republicans is essentially infecting the Republican voting base. And then Sarah Longwell‚ a Republican pollster‚ shared some responses that she's been getting in her focus groups. And specifically in this recent focus group‚ she was speaking to two-time Trump voters‚ which shows that Republican voters are repeating Trump's dog whistles when they're talking about some of the other candidates that were running in the primary‚ such as Vivek Ramaswamy. Man: I'm sorry. I'm not being prejudiced‚ guys‚ but I don't like his name. I don't like where he came from. After 9/11‚ I still harbor a lot of hard feelings about that. Man: No offense to any woman out there. I just feel like it's a man's job. They have got to make tough decisions that can't have any emotions involved. They're the commander in chief. They have that red button at their disposal at all times. Laura Barron-Lopez: In that last one‚ we heard some sexism directed at Nikki Haley. And so‚ again‚ Republican voters repeating some of the same sexist rhetoric used by former President Donald Trump . Amna Nawaz: So‚ Laura‚ we're talking about the man who's the likely presumptive GOP nominee. What does all of this mean for the Republican Party and also for the country moving forward? Laura Barron-Lopez: I want to take a step back‚ Amna‚ because‚ in 2012‚ the Republican National Committee‚ after that presidential election and their losses there‚ decided that they needed to be a more inclusive party. They issued an autopsy report that said that they were losing young voters‚ that minorities thought that their party didn't want them in the country. But then‚ when Donald Trump won in 2016‚ he essentially sent the party down a totally different path. And it basically convinced the Republican Party that he could issue a playbook of dog whistle politics and win. I asked Professor Lopez what impact that could have on the larger country. Ian Haney Lopez: The tragedy is that Republican leadership and also important media outlets like FOX News have convinced a significant portion of Americans that their best future depends on rejecting and indeed actively fighting against a multiracial democracy. But we're already a multiracial society. What we stand to lose then is our democracy and a society that works for all of us. Laura Barron-Lopez: So‚ even though Trump's playbook isn't new‚ Amna‚ Professor Ian Haney Lopez said that that relentless rhetoric has essentially reshaped the entire Republican voting base. Amna Nawaz: White House correspondent Laura Barron-Lopez. Laura‚ thank you for that reporting. Laura Barron-Lopez: Thank you.

Colbert Falsely Says There's 'Resistance to Teaching' History in Schools

CBS’s Stephen Colbert and NPR’s Michele Norris teamed up on the Monday edition of The Late Show to lament‚ in Colbert’s word’s‚ the “resistance to diversity programs” and falsely accuse that opposition of not wanting to teach history in schools. Colbert declared that we are in “a time when there's a lot of resistance to diversity programs and that’s turned into a bit of a political cudgel and there's also a resistance to teaching in our schools‚ American history and American racial history."     There is not. There’s resistance to teaching politicized and inaccurate far-left narratives pretending to be honest racial history‚ but Norris tried to explain it as an attempt to not confront the past‚ “Well‚ on the teaching of history‚ I think they get wrong the idea that we can outrun our history. I don't think we can. I don't think we should.” Moving on to ideas of diversity‚ Norris echoed Colbert‚ “I think diversity is sort of a word that's become weaponized in some ways and what people get wrong is that diversity is not an ugly thing.” Norris explained that‚ “Diversity is one of the beautiful things about America. That when you-- thank you. That when you create diversity‚ you don't have to lower standards. It's about widening the aperture‚ not lowering the standards. I'm going to say that one more time. To create a diverse base‚ you don't have to lower standards. You just look for a larger pool because talent is equally distributed. Opportunity isn't.” Expanding opportunity is one thing‚ but it is not what Diversity‚ Equity‚ and Inclusion adherents mean. Their goal is not just to expand the talent pool and let that expanded pool’s talents speak for themselves‚ but to pick people solely based on identity politics. Here is a transcript for the January 29-taped show: CBS The Late Show with Stephen Colbert 1/30/2024 12:31 AM ET STEPHEN COLBERT: At a time when there's a lot of resistance to diversity programs-- MICHELE NORRIS: Yeah. COLBERT: -- and that’s turned into a bit of a political cudgel and there's also a resistance to teaching in our schools‚ American history and American racial history. What do you think people get wrong about race and identity in America?  NORRIS: Well‚ on the teaching of history‚ I think they get wrong the idea that we can outrun our history. I don't think we can. I don't think we should. I think diversity is sort of a word that's become weaponized in some ways and what people get wrong is that diversity is not an ugly thing.  Diversity is one of the beautiful things about America. Opportunity isn't.

'Our children are not for sale': Arizona Republicans seek life in prison for child sex traffickers

Arizona state Republican lawmakers recently proposed new legislation that seeks lifetime prison sentences for individuals convicted of child sex trafficking crimes‚ the Epoch Times reported.Last week‚ state Rep. Selina Bliss (R) and Senator Shawnna Bolick (R) introduced mirror bills‚ HCR 2042 and SCR 1021‚ which "seek to to strengthen punishment for child sex traffickers‚" according to a news release from the Arizona House Republicans. If passed‚ those convicted of child sex trafficking crimes could face "natural life" sentences without the opportunity for early release‚ including no eligibility for parole or commuting sentences "under any circumstances.""The resolution proposes amending the Arizona State Constitution to mandate a natural life sentence for individuals convicted of paying for sex with a minor‚ receiving payment for placing a minor in another person's custody for sex with another person‚ or providing or obtaining a minor with intent that the minor engage in sex with another person‚ sending a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated‚" the press release read.During a Thursday news conference at Arizona's Capitol in Phoenix‚ Majority Leader Rep. Leo Biasiucci (R) called the mirror legislation "a huge win for the state of Arizona.""It's important that we‚ as a state‚ take the lead on this because other states look at us. They try to follow us in many other categories. This one now has come to the forefront‚" Biasiucci explained. "We want to make it very clear to everybody in the state‚ across the country: Our children are not for sale.""If you are involved in these heinous crimes‚ we are putting you away for a very long time. Because‚ in this bill‚ we're throwing away the key‚" he added. The legislation would make Arizona the strictest state in the country for child sex crimes‚ Biasiucci explained. Bliss‚ the prime sponsor of the bill‚ said during Thursday's news conference‚ "Age 14‚ that's the average age in Arizona that these abused children are forced into these acts. And we're talking about boys and girls.""Our society must stand firmly against those who seek to harm the most vulnerable among us. Those who prey on the innocence of the young will face the full weight of the law‚" Bliss stated.Bolick blamed the "wide-open southern border and derelict government agencies" for an increase in child sex trafficking. From March to October 2020‚ there was a 29% increase in child sex trafficking victims in Maricopa compared to the same period in 2019‚ the Maricopa County Child Sex Trafficking Collaborative reported.Like Blaze News? Joe Biden’s prescription for disaster

Joe Biden’s prescription for disaster

It isn’t often a presidential administration does something wildly destructive and seemingly out of spite. Yet that appears to be what Joe Biden’s administration is doing with prescription drugs as it seeks to force price controls on pharmaceutical companies and a punitive excise tax on any that resist. “Better access to drugs‚ especially in poor countries‚ could save 10 million lives each year‚ four million of them in Africa and Southeast Asia‚” the United Nations estimated in 2007. Unmentioned in that assessment is how government policies hinder access to lifesaving drugs. We fund the billions in research and development to produce new drugs. We empower innovation. Or we used to‚ anyway. Governments in countries with “low” prescription drug costs impose those costs on the companies in several ways. First‚ they simply drag their feet on the drug approval process. A 2019 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association looked at the “difference in the availability of new drugs in Germany and the U.S.” and found that “compared with the U.S.‚ fewer new medicines are available in Germany‚ and they enter the market at a later time.” JAMA reported the “study comparing 599 medicine approvals in the U.S. and Germany between 2004 and 2018‚" and "92% of all new medicines approved in either country were available in the U.S.‚ and 80% were available in Germany. The median approval time in Germany was extended by 4 months.” In short‚ more drugs were available to Americans‚ and they were available sooner than in Germany. Germany is not unique. Governments in countries with socialized medicine schemes hinder new drugs entering their markets while the government “negotiates” the price they will pay. This process adds significant time to the approval process. While four months may not seem like a lot of time‚ it can be a lifetime for people afflicted with something for which the new or latest‚ most effective treatment is held up by bureaucrats as they set the price. It’s hardly a “negotiation” at all. Governments typically issue an ultimatum: Accept the price we’re demanding‚ or we’ll seize (i.e.‚ steal) your patent and have a domestic company make the drug. The Biden administration now claims that it‚ too‚ has the power to seize drug patents when companies that own them refuse to give in to the government’s price demands. When other countries force lower prices than the market would otherwise produce‚ the ensuing shortfall needs to be made up somewhere else. That somewhere else is usually the United States. We fund the billions in research and development to produce new drugs. We are the world’s leading innovators. It’s not an accident that the United States dominates the pharmaceutical market: We empower innovation. Or we used to‚ anyway. In addition to the ability to seize patents‚ the Biden administration also asserts the power to impose a 95% excise tax on any company that does not “negotiate” with Medicare to the satisfaction of the president. As part of the “Inflation Reduction Act‚” the president has the ability‚ for the first time ever‚ to negotiate the cost of a limited number of prescription drugs on behalf of the government. Should the government be unsatisfied with the drug company and not be able to come to terms‚ or the company simply refuses to accept what the federal government dictates‚ the administration can impose that 95% excise tax. Call it anything you like — coercion‚ extortion‚ theft — but don’t call it “negotiation.” For now‚ the administration’s power to “negotiate” drug prices is limited. But unless and until Congress steps in‚ the power will expand. It is the pathway to crippling the prescription drug market in the United States. This should scare the heck out of anyone with a loved one who needs prescription drugs to treat a chronic illness or is fighting any condition for which surgery is not an option. It will kill innovation and‚ ultimately‚ do the same to Americans who depend on medications to survive and thrive.

Biden bans liquid natural gas exports for 'climate-related' reasons‚ but Ken Paxton says it's retaliation for border battle

Texas is refusing to back down and hand over control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass‚ Texas‚ to federal authorities. President Biden then banned all new liquid natural gas export approvals‚ claiming this was a climate-related decision — not a way to retaliate and hurt Texas’ economy. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton tells Glenn Beck that he has “no doubt” that this was meant to hurt Texas‚ not help the climate. “There’s no doubt in my mind they were probably enjoying the fact that it would hurt the Texas economy‚ but I also think that’s what the border is about‚” Paxton says. While Paxton believes the long-term goal is to allow immigrants into Texas in order to change the way the red state votes‚ the rest of what the administration is doing is hurting the Texas economy anyway. “What they’re doing is bringing people into our state so that we have higher costs. We have law enforcement costs‚ health care costs‚ we have education costs‚ and they know that‚” he explains. “I think they’re doing their best to damage and harm in any way possible‚ even if it means high crime in the Republican states‚” he continues‚ adding that while it “sounds so conspiratorial‚” he can see what they’re doing. “It’s not like a secret; it’s all out in the open‚” he adds. Glenn is in agreement with Paxton‚ adding‚ “This is what a constitutional crisis looks like.” Want more from Glenn Beck?To enjoy more of Glenn’s masterful storytelling‚ thought-provoking analysis‚ and uncanny ability to make sense of the chaos‚ subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America‚ defend the Constitution‚ and live the American dream.

Overall‚ the rate of robberies per 100‚000 people has dropped significantly since 2012‚ when it was 113‚ down to 66 in 2022.At the same time‚ police have routinely issued warnings to citizens about the dangers of meeting in person to sell items after organizing the sale online. This included police in Philadelphia issuing a warning in May 2023‚ along with Chicago police putting out an alert after a string of 19 robberies related to Facebook Marketplace in 2022.In the latter‚ a group of men had been stealing ATVs and motorbikes by approaching the victims in ski masks while wielding a handgun before taking the victim's property.Like Blaze News?
