Seven Tiny Kittens Pulled Out of Animal Shelter and into New Chapter Full of Joy and Adventures

Seven tiny kittens were pulled out of an animal shelter and into a new chapter full of joy and adventures. Sam, Alan, David (in the back), Michael, Lucy, Edgar, and StarPennyRichardsWhen Penny Richards, an experienced fosterer for Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA), was contacted about seven kittens needing a bottle feeder, she jumped at the chance. The kittens had been brought to an animal shelter and needed urgent placement by the end of the day. AWLA immediately agreed to take them. With the help of their rescue partner, all seven kittens were safely transported into foster care."When they arrived, I could tell they were no more than 24 hours old - perhaps even a bit younger," Penny shared with Love Meow. PennyRichardsNo one knows what happened to the mother cat, but the first 24 hours after birth are crucial for newborn kittens to receive their mother's first milk, which is essential for strengthening their immune systems. In the absence of their mom, Penny supplemented the kittens with colostrum. LucyPennyRichards"Thankfully, they came in quite good shape and a good weight for newborns despite being incredibly small (with the runt weighing only 67 grams). They took very tiny meals for the first couple of days until they began to grow."A few days later, three of the kittens started having stomach troubles. At such a tender age, orphaned kittens are vulnerable to any ailments. Edgar and AlanPennyRichardsPenny provided the trio with medication and round-the-clock supportive care. In two days, their issues subsided, their appetites returned, and they were back on track with the rest of the crew."I felt so relieved. They were thriving, and it was clear that all seven were okay now. They were very much into eating and had a really strong will to live." David doubled his weight in one weekPennyRichardsUpon arrival, Lucy, a beautiful dilute calico, was the biggest of the bunch, while David, a cream kitten, was the smallest but was working the hardest to catch up.By the end of the first week, he nearly doubled in size, and there was no stopping him. Edgar promptly fell asleep after eatingPennyRichardsEdgar, a cow tabby, promptly fell into a food coma after each meal. He conked out in place, with his little tongue still curled.By week two, all seven kittens had their eyes open and were growing at lightning speed. "From the moment they arrived, their favorite thing to do was roll over as soon as they finished eating and wave all four legs in the air." PennyRichardsThe clowder flopped on their backs, wiggling their limbs around as if they were swimming. "It was the funniest and cutest thing I have seen."As they became stronger and more coordinated, their curiosity about the world beyond the incubator multiplied. "Edgar always sat at the door of the incubator as if he was looking out when I was feeding the others. EdgarPennyRichards"Star, Alan, and Lucy were always attempting to escape and were quickly joined by the rest of the gang, as they all took every chance they could get to climb out of the incubator when it was opened."As their vision and hearing continued developing, they became more active and adventurous. The moment they smelled food, they piled out of their nest like roly-polies. PennyRichardsWhen the seven outgrew their incubator, they were upgraded into a playpen with all the amenities.Their appetites have grown more ravenous than ever, and they all sport rotund bellies. "Now, at four weeks old, they have started to play with each other, and they love to roll around on their backs as they slowly bite each other and wrestle." SamPennyRichardsSam is fascinated by the notebook Penny uses to record their weights and growth and often offers a helping paw."As soon as they have each finished their meal, they purr loudly as they climb up for a cuddle with me. I can already tell they will be a very loving and cuddly group." DavidPennyRichards"Alan, Edgar, and Lucy are expert biscuit makers and have been practicing since they were tiny." MSNBC Reporter Ali Vitali on Morning Joe: 'Sense of Despair' Hangs Over Democrats

MSNBC Reporter Ali Vitali on Morning Joe: 'Sense of Despair' Hangs Over Democrats

On today's Morning Joe, MSNBC reporter Ali Vitali twice used the d-word, for "despair," to describe the mood of congressional Democrats over the dilemma as to whether Biden should remain the nominee or step aside. Vitali's very first words  set the tone: "I haven't talked to anyone who's a [Dem] staffer, who is an operative, who's an elected, who doesn't say some form of this sentence, "I love Joe Biden, but." . . . There was just a real sense on the Hill yesterday of despair." Vitali sounded the d-word again in her closing comments: "There is such a sense of despair that has been hanging over the Capitol as I've been working the halls the last few days." Presumably, Obama didn't order Vitali to say this, in contrast to Mika's suggestion yesterday that Obama arranged for George Clooney to write his op-ed calling on Biden to quit. So what does Vitali's report say not only about the mood among Dems, but the mood in the liberal media? Is the Democrat/MSM complex coalescing to kick Biden out? Throughout today's show, the point was repeatedly made about the overwhelming importance of beating Trump, given the threats that he supposedly poses. And although Vitali gave a reasonably straight-up report, she tipped her hand as to where her politics lie when she described Democrats worried about "the role Trump has played, and takes credit for stripping women of abortion protections and reproductive health care access."  That's not the language a straight-down-the-middle reporter would use. Abortion is the precise opposite of a "protection" --  for the unborn.  Here's the transcript. MSNBC Morning Joe 7/12/24 6:20 am EDT WILLIE GEIST: What else are you hearing in the hours after the press conference last night? ALI VITALI: I think this conversation for the last 20 minutes hits on something that's so central to the main point on Capitol Hill. Which is, I haven't talked to anyone who's a staffer, who is an operative, who's an elected, who doesn't say some form of the sentence, "I love Joe Biden, but." Those electability concerns are so palpable. This panic has been so protracted. There was just a real sense on the Hill yesterday, I think, of despair. Both with the people who have come forward, like Senator Peter Welch, to say, I think he needs to step down, all the way to members who have privately expressed their concerns but don't want to come forward publicly. Either because they don't think that it's going to be persuasive to the president, so why bother, or because they don't know if they're there yet.  They have such concerns about who, if not Biden, can beat Donald Trump. Because, again, all roads lead to Democrats stressing the need to avoid a second Trump presidency. Because of things like Project 2025. Because of the role Trump has played and takes credit for on stripping women of abortion protections and reproductive health care access.  . . .  GEIST: As we've been saying this week, Ali, this is people of good faith who want one thing in the Democratic party. VITALI: Exactly. GEIST: And that is to beat Donald Trump. Congressman Himes is a guy we respect a lot. Obviously, a very smart guy. Comes on our show all the time. He doesn't believe Donald Trump can be defeated by President Biden. Others say, well, Joe Biden's the guy who beat Donald Trump, and he can do it again, despite all the shortcomings that we see out in the open.  So is there some moment, and who is the person? Is it Hakeem Jeffries? Is it Nancy Pelosi? Is it former President Obama behind the scenes? Are there meetings? Are there conversations? Is there a moment where the party comes together and says, "this is our decision, this is the plan. We're either standing with the president, or the vast majority of us believe he should step aside?" Does that moment ever come? VITALI: It really needs to. But I think the goalposts and the timeline keeps moving. Because first, it was, all right, his first appearance after the debate, let's see how that goes. Then it was the Stephanopoulos interview. Then it became, let's see how the press conference goes last night. Now it's become, all right, well, the RNC, the Republican convention is next week. Democrats come back to the Hill. Certainly by then, if Democrats haven't said all they need to say by then, then we'll have to see what happens. There is this moving goalpost and this moving metric, and I think the thing that's so hard is, it is an unquantifiable thing. Every lawmaker that I have talked to, I have asked the same question that you're asking me. Which is, okay, when you say, do more, what does that mean? When you need to see something, what does that look like? And there's no tangible answer to this because really what you're solving for here is vibes, mood. People don't feel good. There is such a sense of despair that has been hanging over the Capitol as I've been working the halls the last few days. And that is not something that you can solve by data. It's not something that makes -- it's a feeling. It's not a fact.

Ohio mother dies after jumping on car being stolen with her 6-year-old son inside, police say

Ohio police said a woman died trying to save her 6-year-old from a carjacker by jumping onto the hood of her car. The tragic incident unfolded at the White Oak Park Condominiums in Columbus on Thursday at about 1:30 a.m. when 29-year-old Alexa Stakely went to pick her son up from a babysitter. 'They absolutely know what they did. They know publicly at this point what has happened.' Stakely brought out the sleeping boy to the Honda-CRV and then returned to the home to pick up his belongings, but she left the car running. That's when someone tried to steal the car. The woman yelled at them to stop and said her child was in the car, but they kept driving, so she jumped on the hood to try to stop them. Police said she fell off the car and was injured so severely she died later at Mount Carmel East Hospital. Witnesses told police that they saw two males run away from the vehicle and escape into another apartment complex. The boy was found unharmed in the abandoned car, still sleeping. Police believe that the two men who tried to steal Stakely's car were a part of a group of men who were seen looking into apartments in the area just before the incident. “We believe there are multiple involved. We know that between the multiple suspects that we believe were involved, they absolutely know what they did. They know publicly at this point what has happened,” said Sgt. James Fuqua. Investigators said two of the males in the group matched the description of the two attempted carjackers. Police asked people in the area to review footage from security cameras in hopes that someone got video useful to their investigation. Stakely worked as a speech-language pathologist in the preschool program at Winchester Trail Elementary. She also had a second job as a server in order to help provide for her child. Her younger brother, Hayden Swartz, told WBNS-TV that she was an amazing mother to her child. “She was an extremely amazing person who had a heart for kids and teaching kids, being in SLP and was just brilliant about her work,” he added. He went on to call on those responsible for her death to turn themselves in. “Do what is right. Justice needs to be served and people need to learn their lesson that there's law in this community and in this world,” he added. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for the needs of her child. Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox.
