Trump Kisses Helmet Of Slain Firefighter, Calls For Moment Of Silence In His Honor

Former President Donald Trump took some time out of his scheduled speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) to pay his respects to those who were injured or killed when a would-be assassin opened fire on his Pennsylvania rally last Saturday. Trump mentioned the fact that he had spoken with the two men who had been wounded in the shooting, noting that although their injuries had been serious, they were on the mend and doing well. He also spoke briefly about Corey Comperatore, the firefighter who was hailed as a hero for shielding his family with his own body before he was struck and killed. Referencing the Go-fund-me page that was set up to provide resources to the families of the other shooting victims, Trump announced that over $6 million had been raised in the past five days. Comperatore’s firefighter uniform was then placed onstage, and Trump walked away from the lectern, hugging the uniform and kissing the helmet. “What a fine man he was,” he said. Trump Shares Chart That Saved his Life: ‘Last Time I Put Up That Chart, I Never Really Got To Look At It’

Former President Donald Trump showcased the chart that he credits with saving his life, joking that “the last time I put up that chart, I never got to look at it.” Trump made the comment about an hour into his speech on Thursday at the Republican National Convention (RNC) after officially accepting the party’s 2024 nomination – just five days after a would-be assassin had opened fire on his Butler, Pennsylvania, rally. You know the chart,” Trump said. Turning to look at the screen behind him, he continued, “Oh, there it is, that’s pretty good, wow! Last time I put up that chart, I never really got to look at it. But without that chart, I would not be here.” “Never got to look at it,” Trump cracked again as the audience erupted in applause and laughter. “I said, ‘You gotta see this chart,’ I was so proud of it. And by the time I got to there … I never got to see it that day. But I’m seeing it now.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Trump had just called for the chart to be put up during the Saturday rally, and was turning his head to look at it when the first shots were fired — a move that caused the bullet to graze the former president’s ear rather than striking him in the head.

A Prayer to Keep Our Promises - Your Daily Prayer - July 19

Have you ever made a promise and, with the busyness of life, unintentionally neglected to follow through? As a mother of three young girls, this happens more often than I admit.

Trump Accepts GOP Nomination With Speech Focused on National Unity

Donald Trump accepted the Republican presidential nomination for the third time Thursday night, less than a week after the attempt on his life.  “We rise together or we fall apart. I am running to be president for all America, not half of America, because there is no victory in winning for half of America,” Trump told the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.  “So, tonight with faith and devotion, I proudly accept your nomination for president of the United States.” Trump recalled the immediate aftermath of the shooting at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.  “When I rose surrounded by Secret Service, the crowd thought I was dead. And there was great, great sorrow, I could see that in their faces,” Trump said. “I wanted to do something to let them know I was OK. I raised my right arm, looked at the thousands and thousands of people, and started shouting, ‘Fight, fight, fight.’” The crowd in the convention hall chanted, “Fight, fight, fight.” “I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” Trump said after recalling the details of the attempted assassination from his perspective. The crowd responded with chants of “Yes, you are!” Trump, who was hit by a bullet that grazed his right ear, said: “I stand in this arena only by the grace of God.” The former president praised the actions of the Secret Service agents around him, amid widespread criticism of the agency’s leadership for a cataclysmic security failure that allowed the 20-year-old sniper to fire at him from a nearby rooftop. His bullets killed one man and wounded two others in the crowd. Trump paid tribute to Corey Comperatore, the former fire chief killed at the rally. “Tragically, the shooter claimed the life of one of our fellow Americans, Corey Comperatore—an unbelievable person, everyone tells me—and seriously wounded two other great warriors,” he said. Trump also kissed Comperatore’s helmet. (Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images) The crowd chanted, “Corey, Corey, Corey.” Trump said, “I ask that we observe a moment of silence in honor of our friend, Corey.” Trump also noted that the U.S. government’s classified documents case against him was tossed Monday by a federal judge in Florida.  “We must not criminalize dissent or demonize political disagreement, which is what’s been happening in our country lately,” Trump said. He added: “In that spirit, the Democrat Party should immediately stop weaponizing the justice system and labeling their political opponent as an enemy of democracy. I am the one saving democracy.” At one point, Trump mentioned President Joe Biden twice as “Biden,” saying he wouldn’t say the name again in the speech. This is a developing story and will be updated. The post Trump Accepts GOP Nomination With Speech Focused on National Unity appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Nicolle Wallace: Republicans ‘Totally Codependent on Disinformation’

MSNBC was still pretending their anchors were at the Republican National Convention during Thursday’s Night Four festivities, when liberal wine mom and host of Deadline: White House host Nicolle Wallace went off on how the Republican Party she left was “totally codependent on disinformation.” She made that accusation while at least two network hosts were peddling disinformation, claiming former President Trump wasn’t shot in the head during a failed assassination attempt. Stumbling her way through her commentary about the convention, Wallace took a swing at conservative talk radio and bloviated how the party she left was reliant on “disinformation” and “conspiracy” theories: I mean, we – we – And we kind of started putting the pieces together about how we got here, we talked about talk radio grafting onto the Republican Party, rhetorically. This is a political movement that cannot – that’s totally codependent on disinformation. And so, as sort of the right-wing media ecosystem became more – people used to change channels, right? Now they are locked into Fox News. And then, if they flip around, they’ll see how Newsmax is covering the same conspiracy.     But, as NewsBusters had reported throughout the week, MSNBC had played host to conspiracy theories that falsely suggested that Trump was not actually hit by a bullet, but rather sprayed with glass from a shattered teleprompter. On Tuesday, weekend host Michael Steele cast doubt on the fact Trump had a bullet go through his ear. “If he was shot by a high-caliber bullet, there should probably be very little ear there. And so we would like to know that,” he rhetorically scoffed, suggesting it was just glass, “Was it caused by a bullet as opposed to some reports from those on the scene, other reporters, saying that it was actually shards of glass from the teleprompter itself, not the bullet?” On Wednesday, host Joy Reid found it suspicious that Trump had not showed off his wound to the press, hinting that he wasn’t actually struck by a bullet: Congressman Ronny Jackson of Texas…He says he replaced the dressing on Trump's ear on Sunday during the flight to Milwaukee, telling The New York Times, quote, “The bullet took off a little bit of the top of his ear in an area that, just by nature, bleeds like crazy. The dressing is bulked up a bit because you need a bit of absorbent. You don't want to be walking around with bloody gauze on his ears,” unquote. And that's all we really know about Trump's injury, which is weird, right? NewsBusters has reached out to NBCUniversal asking for what evidence these hosts supposedly had that leads them to peddle a debunked conspiracy theory and if they represented the position of the media organization. NBCUniversal has not responded to the request for comment. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: MSNBC Republican National Convention July 18, 2024 9:14:31 p.m. Eastern (…) RACHEL MADDOW: So, here we go. Next round starts tonight. Nicolle, I’m sorry I turn to you and you laughed. [Laughter] NICOLLE WALLACE: I mean, two nights in a row – I mean, to watch you at home is different, I have my mommy water, I have my dogs. I mean, it takes your breath away. Right? I mean, it really – You’ve taken my breath away two nights in a row. I think the thing that is so important to understand – and I’m thinking back to an interview Sean Hannity and Gerald – I don't know who was interviewing who, Gerald (Rivera) and Sean Hannity were talking. And they were talking jovially about how Nixon never would have had to leave had Sean been around. I mean, we – wee – And we kind of started putting the pieces together about how we got here, we talked about talk radio grafting onto the Republican Party, rhetorically. This is a political movement that cannot – that’s totally codependent on disinformation. And so, as sort of the right-wing media ecosystem became more – people used to change channels, right? Now they are locked into Fox News. And then, if they flip around, they’ll see how Newsmax is covering the same conspiracy. (…)

CBS’s Margaret Brennan: ‘The Strongman Has a Family, Too'

Watching countless hours of the 2024 Republican National Convention is quite instructive and serves tremendous purpose, to wit: to remind everyone that the cloistered Acela Media have nothing but utter contempt for significant portions of the American public.  Case in point: Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan just casually chatting about the décor at the Fiserv Forum, and finding within it an authoritarianism: CBS EVENING NEWS 7/18/24 6:36 PM NORAH O’DONNELL: We want to bring in Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan, and Margaret- about that imagery that Robert (Costa) was mentioning and who we’re going to hear from tonight, there's also a sign posted throughout this convention hall that says, “they’re not after me, they’re after you.” What is that meant to convey? MARGARET BRENNAN: This is very much a strongman image, “I am your protector. And anything you hear in terms of criticism of me, it's really about you.” It's the culture war, class war messaging here. But really, Norah, what’s striking is this is not just -- this isn't the Republican Party, this is the Trump Family Party now. And we are seeing that very clearly. This is built around this one personality and from the walk-on song, It's a Man's World yesterday to Kid Rock tonight, to coming down with all of the fighting, it's about “I am your protector.” It’s an image we’ve seen around the world and other countries and here, there are no other giants in the Republican Party. The only one here is Donald Trump on these walls, only him. O’DONNELL: And there’s a paternal aspect to it as well, with all of the references to him as Grandpa. BRENNAN: Isn’t that interesting, that we hear Joe Biden calling his grandkids all the time. Yesterday, you heard one of the grandchildren, Kai Trump, say “oh, grandpa calls me too.” There wasn’t a lot of acknowledgement that the former first lady was not here. Ivanka Trump was not here until tonight. But it takes some of the edges off of the strongman when you see he has a family, too. O’DONNELL: Margaret Brennan, thank you so much. These people leave the cloistered confines of Washington, D.C. and come out and pontificate on people they despise and have no desire to understand. The entire fundamental misunderstanding of the meaning of “they’re not after me, they’re after you”, which is really a butchery of “they’re not after me, they’re really after you but I’m in the way”, was on display as Brennan babbled on about strongmen and protectors. The statement is really about persecution and weaponization of government, and we’ve particularly seen that play out over the past few years. Instead, we get sneering about that and about how Trump’s grandkids really soften the “strongman”. That, and an underlying contempt for masculinity- which seems to be a common theme throughout this convention.
