‘Kevin McCarthy Is Plotting His Revenge’: Rep. Eli Crane on ‘The Kevin Roberts Show’

Republican Rep. Eli Crane joined “The Kevin Roberts Show” Wednesday to discuss the southern border‚ challenging the Republican leadership in the House‚ and how he feels out of place in Washington‚ D.C.  The congressman told host and Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts that the voters of Arizona’s 2nd District picked an uncommon person to represent them in Congress. “This guy doesn’t have any experience. He’s got a lot of tattoos. He often wears a ball cap on the campaign trail‚ but I think this guy might be a little—I think he might actually do what he says‚” noted Crane.  He also said that he feels out of place in Washington because he often stands up against Republican leadership on certain issues.  One such issue was aid to Ukraine. Crane said that a congressional aid package to the European nation was “stoking the fires” of the conflict. He even expressed concern that one possible scenario resulting from promoting Ukraine could be that Russia feels pushed toward “taking out some of our American cities” with its nuclear arsenal.  The congressman further acknowledged his distance at times from congressional leadership‚ saying that many Washington leaders seem to care more about a foreign war than the challenges Americans face today‚ such as the increasing burdens of illegal immigration.  Texas is currently in a legal battle against the Biden administration for control of a makeshift border wall topped with barbed wire. The administration is attempting to remove the Texas-built wall‚ drawing ire from numerous Republican governors who support Texas’ efforts to stem the tide of illegal crossings.  “Walls work‚” Crane said. “There’s a reason why prisons have them‚ schools have them‚ you have them at your home.”   The congressman also said that he came to Washington to “shake things up‚” even if that means voting to oust the speaker of the House. The congressman was one of eight representatives in October 2023 who voted to remove Kevin McCarthy from the speakership.  “Kevin McCarthy is plotting his revenge against those of us that took him out‚” Crane said on the podcast.   He said he wasn’t worried about the political fallout‚ though. In fact‚ Crane said‚ “We need more people up here [Washington] … that are willing to shake things up‚ and that are willing to put their political careers on the line.”  “We need people coming up here that aren’t afraid to buck the system‚” the congressman said.  Crane also mentioned one other reason he feels like he doesn’t fit in here in Washington—one that may resonate with the average man: “I hate wearing a suit!”  Have an opinion about this article? Pulling Dead Bodies From the Rio Grande: The Daily Life of Fire and Rescue on the US-Mexico Border

EAGLE PASS‚ TEXAS—Pulling “three or four bodies out” of the Rio Grande in one day is not unheard of for Harish Garcia or his colleagues at the Eagle Pass fire station near the border of Mexico‚ he says.   “Before all the immigration started with people crossing and everything‚ we would still get [dead bodies in the river]‚ but it was very uncommon‚” Garcia tells The Daily Signal in a recent interview‚ noting it “was maybe one or two every month” before the spike in illegal crossings.  “Regardless of how we feel or what we think‚ it’s a job that needs to get done and it needs to get done efficiently‚” Garcia‚ a firefighter and EMT‚ adds. Still‚ he says there are “a lot of feelings” when he and his team are pulling minors out of the water.   “I would say it’s the younger patients‚ the kids‚ the pediatric patients‚ anywhere from 10 years old to even 5-year-olds that you kind of get that feeling when you’re getting them out of the water that you know they had nothing to do with going into the water and they didn’t know any better‚ they were being placed in that situation‚” Garcia says. The firehouse is only 1 mile from the border. In addition to body recoveries in the Rio Grande‚ Garcia and his colleagues conduct rescue missions in the river.   “The river’s so misleading‚” firefighter and paramedic Luis Barrientos says of the Rio Grande. “You could be in a foot of water and then‚ as you’re walking‚ you just go straight down‚ and you get swept away.”  Border Patrol or the Texas Department of Public Safety will often pull the migrants from the water or find them on a small island in the river‚ and then EMTs or paramedics like Barrientos render first aid‚ he explains. “Unfortunately‚ we do sometimes catch them in cardiac arrest‚” Barrientos says‚ adding that hypothermia is also an issue during the colder months.   “It’s almost a norm … to be going out there and dealing with the border crisis‚ with the patients there‚” he says.   In his 21 years of working for the Eagle Pass Fire Department‚ Fire Marshal Eleazar Cuevas says he has “never seen” so many “calls in a day” responding to illegal immigrants.   The firefighters and EMTs who work at the station not only respond to situations involving illegal aliens in the river but also along the highway and at Firefly‚ a large‚ temporary illegal alien processing center opened under the Biden administration.   The fire department does “respond a lot of times” to the medical needs of “all the immigrants” at Firefly‚ located about 12 miles from the station‚ Cuevas says. “It’s a toll on the guys‚” the fire marshal explains‚ “because‚ I mean‚ every single run that we go out there‚ it’s an approximate‚ about two hours from when they receive the call to when they get back to the station because of the distance‚ because of the treatment that they have to do‚ go back to the hospital‚ do their reports‚ and then come back to the station.”   The challenge‚ according to Garcia‚ is “once you drive out [to Firefly] you don’t know what’s going to happen out here in the city‚ whether we’re going to have a fire or whether we have more EMS calls coming in‚” he says. While Cuevas says the station has always performed rescue and recovery missions on the Rio Grande‚ before the surge of illegal aliens seeking to cross the border‚ “we could have gone a month‚ two months‚ without responding to the river.”  Amid the surge of crossings‚ the station was getting about six calls a day to the border and to the illegal alien processing center‚ the marshal says‚ but the calls “actually diminished in this [past] couple of weeks.” Illegal crossings into Eagle Pass slowed significantly since early January after the Texas National Guard assumed control of Shelby Park‚ one of the central crossing points in the city. Guardsmen have built a makeshift barrier along the river using shipping containers and razor wire‚ and have also strung concertina wire along the river‚ making it challenging for illegal aliens to enter Eagle Pass.   Have an opinion about this article? Sunny Hostin Hatches Plot: Ditch Mentally Failing Biden at Democratic Convention

Three days after screaming at her fellow ABC co-hosts to shut up and get behind President Joe Biden because he’s “the candidate” for Democrats‚ staunchly racist and anti-Semitic co-host Sunny Hostin (the descendant of slave owners) was so disturbed by the special counsel’s report about Biden’s failing mental faculties that she hatched a plot to have Democrats ditch him at the convention and install California Governor Gavin Newsom in his place. Following two segments of discussion about the report and Biden’s embarrassing press conference about his mental acuity‚ Hostin announced “there is an off-ramp here” that they “need to think about” going forward: “Once all of the delegates are received‚ the DNC will be certifying the delegates‚ right? And the count and Gavin Newsom can be swapped out if Joe Biden decides to step aside.” Faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin jumped in to add “Or another candidate.” “It can be done. I think it’s important the public knows‚” she proclaimed. “I don't think Kamala Harris will be so happy about that and I think the black community might turn‚” moderator Joy Behar pushed back. Talk of ditching Biden triggered faux conservative Ana Navarro. “I don’t know how many times I have to say this. This is a binary choice between evil and good! Between moral and amoral! An effective president and an ineffective president! A compassionate‚ kind man and an egotistical narcissist! That's the binary choice!” she screamed. But before Hostin and Farah Griffin floated their secession machination‚ the rest of the cast tried desperately to defend Biden and downplay this cognitive decline. Near the top of the show‚ Behar insisted it was desirable for Biden to forget when his son Beau died. “And‚ by the way‚ before I continue with this. Why would he want to remember the day that his son died? Why? You want to block that out of your head. You would have to remember when he was alive‚” she chided Biden’s critics. Her argument made no sense given how often Biden brings up Beau.     Behar also tried to write off Biden confusing Mexico and Egypt as just him “mix[ing] up the names of a couple of people. Seemingly thinking that the rest of the panel would agree with her that it was no big deal‚ she was surprised when Hostin showed grave concern and that the names were so dissimilar (Click “expand”): BEHAR: How big of a problem is this going to be going forward in this election‚ for Biden? HOSTIN: I think it's significant‚ actually. BEHAR: You do? HOSTIN: You know‚ to mix up the president of Egypt with the president of Mexico because his name sounds like si si‚ that's bizarre. BEHAR: What are the two names? FARAH GRIFFIN: Obrador. Sisi and Obrador. It’s not super close. HOSTIN: They're pretty different. Behar proposed that the way Biden “took on” Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy was a sign that he was mentally sharp. “But he took on Doocy. He has a sense of humor. He knows when to hit back. He's not in the dementia or anything. He’s got it‚” she touted. The special counsel’s interviews with Biden were only four months ago‚ in October‚ and Navarro’s defense of Biden’s inability to recall when Beau died was to argue that his memory was excellent over 20 years ago when they first met; and he told her the date his first wife and daughter died: So‚ let me say a couple of things. First of all‚ as you to and I told you guys‚ I've known Joe Biden for over 20 years. And I remember one of the first times that I met Joe Biden and I invited him to an event in Miami in December. And he said to me‚ “I can't do it that day because that day is the day my wife and my daughter died‚ and every day that year I gather myself and I'm alone with my thoughts.” Claiming she wasn’t trying to “explain the gaffe away‚” co-host Sara Haines tried to explain away the gaffe as just Biden misspeaking: HAINES: Not to explain the gaffe away‚ but I'd be more concerned if they followed up and said‚ “Sisi‚ who is he” and he said “Oh‚ Egypt” and caught himself. Because the misspeak thing happens all the time. BEHAR: To everybody. HAINES: Every single person “I remember sitting at this table and once confusing South Korea and North Korea. I know better if you ask me‚” she recalled. Yeah‚ it's totally the same thing‚ Sara. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s The View February 9‚ 2024 11:03:58 a.m. Eastern (…) JOY BEHAR: And‚ by the way‚ before I continue with this. Why would he want to remember the day that his son died? Why? You want to block that out of your head. You would have to remember when he was alive. ANA NAVARRO: No-- BEHAR: But wait‚ hold on. The fact is getting -- that fact is getting completely buried because‚ later on in the press conference‚ he talked about being interrogated for hours by the special counsel at the same time he was dealing with an international crisis in Gaza; and he flubbed it when he brought up Egyptian President el Sisi. Watch. [Cuts to video] PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: initially‚ the president of Mexico‚ El-Sisi did not want to open up the gate to allow humanitarian material to get in. I talked to him. I convinced him to open the gate. [Cuts back to live] BEHAR: Okay. So‚ he mixed up the names of a couple of people. How big of a problem is this going to be going forward in this election‚ for Biden. SUNNY HOSTIN: I think it's significant‚ actually. BEHAR: You do? HOSTIN: You know‚ to mix up the president of Egypt with the president of Mexico because his name sounds like si si‚ that's bizarre. BEHAR: What are the two names? ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: Obrador. Sisi and Obrador. It’s not super close. HOSTIN: They're pretty different. And the other thing is‚ what the report said was he could not remember when he was the vice president. He gave out‚ you know‚ certain dates that were not in line when he was the vice president. It also says that his memory appeared hazy when describing the Afghanistan debate that was once so very important to him. And so you already now have people concerned about his age. I don't think people were as concerned about his mental acuity‚ though. And now they are. So‚ I think this is going to be problematic. BEHAR: He answered those questions quite clearly as far as I could tell. HOSTIN: Not when he mixed up Mexico and Egypt. BEHAR: But he took on Doocy. He has a sense of humor. He knows when to hit back. He's not in the dementia or anything. He’s got it. (…) 11:07:08 a.m. Eastern NAVARRO: So‚ let me say a couple of things. First of all‚ as you to and I told you guys‚ I've known Joe Biden for over 20 years. And I remember one of the first times that I met Joe Biden and I invited him to an event in Miami in December. And he said to me‚ “I can't do it that day because that day is the day my wife and my daughter died and every day that year I gather myself and I'm alone with my thoughts.” And so that's to your question of why he remembers it. I guarantee you every parent who has lost a child remembers exactly when that day happened. I know this because my parents lost my brother. (…) 11:15:04 a.m. Eastern SARA HAINES: Not to explain the gaffe away‚ but I'd be more concerned if they followed up and said‚ “Sisi‚ who is he” and he said “oh‚ Egypt” and caught himself. Because the misspeak thing happens all the time. BEHAR: To everybody. HAINES: Every single person -- I remember sitting at this table and once confusing South Korea and North Korea. I know better if you ask me. HOSTIN: This is the president of the United States and describe them as a sympathetic‚ well-meaning‚ elderly man with a poor memory. (…) 11:17:11 a.m. Eastern HOSTIN: But there is an off-ramp here. And I think one of the off-ramps we need to think about is: once all of the delegates are received‚ the DNC will be certifying the delegates‚ right? And the count and Gavin Newsom can be swapped out if Joe Biden decides to step aside. FARAH GRIFFIN: Or another candidate. It can be done. I think it’s important the public knows. HOSTIN: I think Gavin Newsom can win. BEHAR: I know‚ I don't think Kamala Harris will be so happy about that and I think the black community might turn. HOSTIN: I don’t think they’re going turn if she remains the vice president of the United states. NAVARRO: Kamala Harris is never going to betray Joe Biden in that way. The Democratic Party is never going to betray Joe Biden that way. FARAH GRIFFIN: But it would be done in coordination if he’s putting the good of the country first. If he risks losing to Donald Trump that is reason enough – [Crosstalk] NAVARRO: I don’t know how many times I have to say this. This is a binary choice between evil and good! BEHAR: That's right. NAVARRO: Between moral and amoral! An effective president and ineffective president! FARAH GRIFFIN: And that's why you need the best fighter. NAVARRO: A compassionate‚ kind man and an egotistical narcissist! That's the binary choice!
