Bill Maher tears into the government for working with social media companies to shut down COVID-19 debate

Bill Maher‚ host of "Real Time‚" wasted no time Friday evening in tearing into the government and social media platforms for clamping down on "dissenting opinions" concerning the origins of COVID-19.Maher made a point to mention to guest Kara Swisher that as the years have gone by‚ the "dissenting opinions" on a host of issues "were quite the right ones." These same dissenting opinions on important issues were previously limited or shut down completely on social media platforms. The New York Post reported that the conversation about controversial opinions was kicked off after Maher brought up Murthy V. Missouri — a Supreme Court case that manifested after a lawsuit was filed by state attorneys general from Missouri and Louisiana‚ claiming that government officials had worked with social media companies to shut down certain posts. The posts that were allegedly censored were those that had to do with the Hunter Biden laptop scandal and the pandemic. However‚ Swisher did not appear to wholly agree with Maher‚ suggesting that it was a confusing time for everyone.Maher went on to suggest that he had always been on the side that no one should be "shutting down debate about medical matters‚" adding that "I was a dissenter on many of these issues."He continued by saying there were important voices that were shut down or discouraged at the height of the pandemic.Fox News Digital reported that Mark Zuckerberg — owner of Meta — said that the "establishment... kind of waffled on a bunch of facts and asked for a bunch of things to be censored that‚ in retrospect‚ ended up being more debatable or true."Swisher pushed back‚ claiming that no one will ever fully know the details. However‚ Maher went on to provide examples of where speech was discouraged on certain topics."Okay‚ but we should have been able to argue about whether it came from a lab‚ which we weren’t. Things like that‚" he said. "Natural immunity — whether it was better to go to the beach and get sun and fresh air‚ as I would have said‚ as opposed to sitting home and day-drinking and putting on weight."When Swisher refused to fully concede to Maher's point‚ he continued: “There were two doctors‚ Jay Bhattacharya and Martin Kulldorff. They’re from Stanford and Harvard‚ and they said‚ ‘We were shut down. Not always fully‚ but there are ways to do that.’”“And they’re not radicals‚” Maher added.“They were saying that we’re going too far with school closures — again‚ I think‚ has been proved right. My question was always‚ ‘Why are your doctors more important than my doctors‚ the ones I want to listen to?'”“And the social media companies were in the tank with the government‚” the host concluded.Like Blaze News? 'Pretty empty': Drake Bell blasts Nickelodeon for soft apology following the release of 'Quiet on Set' documentary

Former child star of Nickelodeon's "Drake and Josh"‚ Drake Bell‚ said the network's apology after the release of the bombshell documentary "Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV" was "pretty empty‚" according to the New York Post. The documentary reveals "the untold story of the toxic and abusive environment inside '90s kids' TV‚" according to the show's description. "Hear harrowing accounts from former child stars and crew who probe the balance of power in the industry and reveal an era that inflicted lasting wounds still felt today."Bell‚ 37‚ recently appeared on "The Sarah Fraser Show" podcast to discuss the documentary and Nickelodeon's failure to adequately respond to what happened to child star off set. “There’s a very well-tailored response saying‚ ‘Learning about his trauma‚’ because they couldn’t say that they didn’t know about this or what had happened‚ or anything‚” Bell said concerning the network's apology.“So I think that was a really well-tailored response by probably some big attorney in Hollywood.”“I find it pretty empty‚ their responses‚ because‚ I mean‚ they still show our shows‚ they still put our shows on‚” Bell continued.“And I have to pay for my own therapy‚ I have to figure out what — I mean if there was anything‚ if there was any truth behind them actually caring‚ there would be something more than quotes on a page by obviously a legal representative telling them exactly how to tailor a response.”Bell's comments come just one week after the docuseries aired and immediately went viral online. Shortly after the episode aired‚ the children's TV network posted what appeared to be a sincere apology.“Now that Drake Bell has disclosed his identity as the plaintiff in the 2004 case‚ we are dismayed and saddened to learn of the trauma he has endured‚ and we commend and support the strength required to come forward‚” the network said in a statement that was ultimately obtained by Variety.“Though we cannot corroborate or negate allegations of behaviors from productions decades ago‚ Nickelodeon as a matter of policy investigates all formal complaints as part of our commitment to fostering a safe and professional workplace environment free of harassment or other kinds of inappropriate conduct‚” the statement continued.“Our highest priorities are the well-being and best interests not just of our employees‚ casts and crew‚ but of all children‚ and we have adopted numerous safeguards over the years to help ensure we are living up to our own high standards and the expectations of our audience.”Among the host of allegations made in the show‚ Bell claimed that he had been sexually assaulted by Brian Peck‚ an acting coach‚ while staying at his house.“I was sleeping on the couch where I would usually sleep. I woke up to him — I opened my eyes‚ I woke up and he was sexually assaulting me‚” Bell said during the interview. “I froze and was in complete shock and had no idea what to do or how to react‚ and I have no idea how to get out of this situation.”Bell claimed that the only person who believed him was his father‚ who‚ when he brought the issue up to studio executives‚ claimed that he was being "homophobic." Peck‚ now 62 years old‚ is gay.Bell went on to say that the abuse is what ultimately led him down a self-destructive road. In May 2004‚ Peck pleaded no contest to two charges of sexual abuse‚ and he was later sentenced to one year and four months in prison and forced to register as a sex offender‚ according to the Post.Like Blaze News? Boston religious leaders call on 'white churches' to pay $15 billion in reparations to black residents for owning slaves

The Daily Mail recently reported that religious leaders in Boston have called on "white churches" to give millions of dollars in reparations to the black community throughout the city. The absurd proposition includes white churches providing $15 billion in reparations for their historical role in the slave trade. The event took place at Resurrection Lutheran Church and was put together by the Boston Peoples Reparations Commission‚ which was the group responsible for demanding $15 billion. One of the speakers who appeared at the event was Reverend Kevin Peterson. Peterson reportedly wants to rename Faneuil Hall marketplace‚ named after wealthy merchant Peter Faneuil‚ who was a prominent slave trafficker in the 18th century."We call sincerely and with a heart filled with faith and Christian love for our white churches to join us and not be silent around this issue of racism and slavery and commit to reparations‚" Peterson said."We point to them in Christian love to publicly atone for the sins of slavery and we ask them to publicly commit to a process of reparations.""Where they will extend their great wealth - tens of millions of dollars among some of those churches - into the black community."Peterson was just one among 16 clergymen who signed the letter‚ which was sent to churches that the group wanted to participate in giving reparations. The report mentioned that the letter went into detail about how the churches could pay the money‚ whether by cash or by creating affordable housing or "financial and economic institutions in Black Boston."WCVB reported that Edwin Sumpter‚ who is involved with the Boston Peoples Reparations Commission‚ said: "Obviously‚ it's incalculable. It is impossible to put any dollar number on what African Americans have gone through in this country.""What we're doing is we're mobilizing‚ having conversations‚ educating the community about Boston's role in the transatlantic slave trade‚ the disparities within the communities‚ and we're working towards gathering stories to figure out solutions‚" Heather Cook said‚ who is also with the Boston Peoples Reparations Commission. The group has been advocating for cash reparations since 2018‚ according to reports.Peterson also singled out the Catholic church‚ which was banned in Massachusetts until the state constitution was passed in 1780‚ saying: "They unfortunately assisted in sustaining institutionalized racism across the city.""Not only are we looking at the period of slavery‚ we're looking at three centuries of institutionalized anti-black racism and the Catholic Church is inclusive of the churches we want to engage."
