Netherlands’ Queen Maxima Pushes for Global Digital ID Systems for Financial Access‚ Vaccine Verification and More

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties‚ subscribe to Reclaim The Net. The Dutch Queen Maxima utilized her platform during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos to advocate for the far-reaching benefits of digital ID for various sectors. Queen Maxima highlighted that a digital ID could become a critical instrument‚ capable of determining vaccination statuses‚ facilitating school registrations‚ and simplifying the process of claiming government subsidies. There has been a growing push by various global elites‚ including governments‚ tech companies‚ and international organizations‚ towards the adoption of digital identity systems. This shift is often presented as a means to increase efficiency and security. But‚ few talk about the major implications for surveillance and the erosion of civil liberties. https://video.reclaimthenet.org/articles/maxim-davos.mp4 The Dutch monarch emphasized the relevance of digital ID for expanding financial systems‚ during a panel called “Comparing Notes on Financial Inclusion.” She expressed her earlier concern about the rarity of a universal ID system‚ particularly in regions like Latin America and Africa. “In order to open up an account‚ you need to have an ID. I have to say that when I started this job‚ there were actually very little countries in Africa or Latin America that had one ubiquitous type of ID‚ and certainly that was digital and certainly that was biometric. “We’ve really worked with all our partners to actually help grow this‚ and the interesting part of it is that yes‚ it is very necessary for financial services‚ but not only.” Africa is being used as the testing ground for several digital ID projects. Of course‚ Queen Maxima also said that digital ID systems would be useful to act as a vaccine passport. “It is also good for school enrollment; it is also good for health – who actually got a vaccination or not; it’s very good actually to get your subsidies from the government‚” she said. With her role as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development‚ Queen Maxima has been a key figure in driving the digital ID paradigm shift. This trend also applies to vaccine passports‚ a form of digital ID that the WEF says are an essential part of our future. They envision that this digital identity could be linked to diverse aspects such as financial services‚ healthcare records‚ mobility‚ travel‚ and digital governance. The Making of a War Film

What is a war movie? Is it a faithful restaging of an actual historical event? Or is it a fictional morality play set against a well-known historical background? Is it solely a story of a battle‚ of soldiers in combat? Or can it portray wider themes of war‚ such as the home front; veterans returning to the real world; or higher-level commanders far from the front lines wrestling with excruciating strategic and leadership decisions? Is a classic John Ford cavalry picture a Western‚ or a war movie‚ or both? What about war comedies? POW films? Science fiction films like Ender’s Game and Starship Troopers? As this fascinating five-part documentary series makes clear‚ a war movie can be all these things. War films cast a long shadow over American popular culture of the last 100 years. Nineteen of the 95 Oscars awarded for best picture have gone to war movies‚ starting with the first such award‚ the 1927 silent movie Wings‚ and followed closely by All Quiet on the Western Front‚ in 1930. War Movie explores this film genre‚ starting with the earliest-known example‚ Tearing Down the Spanish Flag. This rather primitive and short silent movie made in 1898 was the start of the long line that runs in a very wide pattern‚ but straight to 2014’s American Sniper and 2019’s The Outpost. The five-part series is organized chronologically: 1. “The Camera and the Gun‚ 1900–1938”; 2. “The ‘Good’ War‚ 1939–1949”; 3. “The Shifting Tide‚ 1950–1975”; 4. “Into the Jungle‚ 1976–2000”; and 5. “Brave New World‚ 2001–2020.” Interspaced between clips from many of the most influential war movies‚ the series offers commentary from noted film critics‚ film historians‚ and most important‚ technical advisers who have been real soldiers. Those advisers who know war up close and personal include retired Navy SEAL Kevin Kent and the legendary former U.S. Marine Corps Captain Dale Dye. This compelling series ends with just as many questions as it answers: Can a soldier’s story be heard as a life of lived experience and not just another plot device? We can learn about what happened in the war; but then once we step out of the movie theater‚ what do we do about that? As viewers can we transcend these repeated storylines of conflict and violence and try to evolve beyond our own repeated history? Questions to ponder‚ indeed. War Movie: The American Battle in Cinema (on DVD and Blu-ray‚ five-part documentary‚ 315 minutes)‚ Cantilever Films‚ written and directed by Steve Summers‚ $24.99–$34.99‚ 2023

Where Was The Cradle Of Life? Perhaps It Was A Shallow Warm Soda Lake

Where Was The Cradle Of Life? Perhaps It Was A Shallow Warm Soda Lake

Where did life begin? While musing over this question in 1871‚ Charles Darwin suggested that the origins of life may have emerged from a “warm little pond” on the surface of the primordial Earth. Since then‚ scientists have learned that the complex molecules of life can indeed emerge from inorganic materials found in certain bodies of water. All you need are the right conditions. Now new research posits that shallow “soda lakes” in western Canada may match these conditions. In 1952‚ the American chemist Stanley Miller‚ under the supervision of Harold C. Urey‚ conducted what is now known as the Miller-Urey experiment that tested whether organic molecules could be created from inorganic ones. During this experiment‚ the scientists found that amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) and other organic molecules could be created from the environmental conditions present on the early Earth. As such‚ it was a powerful demonstration of chemical evolution‚ whereby complex chemicals could emerge from simple ones over time.Since then‚ researchers have shown that the building blocks of RNA can also be created in similar ways‚ but through a process requiring extremely high phosphate concentrations. This is because phosphates form the “backbone” of RNA and DNA‚ and is also a component of cell membranes. But this has represented a problem in the past. To create these biomolecules in a laboratory‚ researchers need to use concentrations of phosphate that are hundreds to 1 million times higher than the levels typically found in natural rivers‚ lakes‚ or oceans. This “phosphate problem” has been a hurdle for the emergence of life hypothesis. However‚ soda lakes may solve it.“I think these soda lakes provide an answer to the phosphate problem‚” senior author David Catling‚ a University of Washington professor of Earth and space sciences said in a statement. “Our answer is hopeful: This environment should occur on the early Earth‚ and probably on other planets‚ because it’s just a natural outcome of the way that planetary surfaces are made and how water chemistry works.”Soda lakes are named after the high levels of dissolved sodium and carbonate they contain‚ which is similar to dissolved baking soda. They get this property from the interaction between water and volcanic rocks beneath their surface. Importantly‚ these lakes can also contain high levels of dissolved phosphate. In 2019‚ other work from the University of Washington showed that soda lakes could have been the hot spot for the emergence of early life. By combining chemical models with laboratory experiments‚ they showed that natural processes could theoretically concentrate phosphate levels to up to 1 million times higher than is typical. In this new study‚ researchers went searching for potential examples of these types of conditions in nature. This brought them to the Last Chance Lake in British Columbia‚ Canada. This lake is about 0.3 meters (1 foot) deep‚ with various murky patches‚ and meets the requirements for a soda lake. It sits above volcanic rock (basalt) and is surrounded by a dry‚ windy atmosphere that keeps water levels low‚ allowing for higher concentrations of dissolved compounds. The team visited the lake three times between 2021 and 2022: they collected observations during early winter‚ when the lake was covered in ice; in early summer‚ when rain and ice-melt streams had raised water levels; and in late summer‚ when the lake had nearly dried up.In most lakes‚ dissolved phosphate quickly binds with calcium to form calcium phosphate‚ the hard stuff that makes our teeth enamel. This would remove phosphate from the water. But in Last Chance Lake‚ calcium binds with carbonate and magnesium‚ forming dolomite. This means that the phosphate lacks a bonding partner‚ so its concentration rises.“This study adds to growing evidence that evaporative soda lakes are environments meeting the requirements for origin-of-life chemistry by accumulating key ingredients at high concentrations‚” Catling said.In other lakes‚ such as the nearby Goodenough Lake‚ any spare phosphate tends to be used by other lifeforms‚ such as cyanobacteria– but at Last Chance‚ the salt content is so high that there are few living organisms present to consume it. This‚ the team argues‚ adds to its suitability as an analog for an otherwise lifeless Earth.“These new findings will help inform origin-of-life researchers who are either replicating these reactions in the lab or are looking for potentially habitable environments on other planets‚” Catling said. The study is published in the journal Communications Earth &; Environment.

Doomsday Clock Stays Closest To Midnight It’s Ever Been For Second Year

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has announced that the Doomsday Clock will be kept at 90 seconds to midnight for a second year – which is still the closest to "Doomsday" it's ever been. Since its inception in the late 1940s‚ the clock has been a symbol to reflect the state of the world and our proximity to midnight or "Doomsday" signifying the annihilation of our species - and it has been ticking forward dramatically in the last few years.“Make no mistake: resetting the Clock at 90 seconds to midnight is not an indication that the world is stable. Quite the opposite‚” said Rachel Bronson‚ PhD‚ president and CEO of the Bulletin‚ in a statement. “It’s urgent for governments and communities around the world to act. And the Bulletin remains hopeful—and inspired—in seeing the younger generations leading the charge.”  This year's announcement is not a surprise. A lack of commitment to tackling the unfolding climate crisis resulting in 2023 being the hottest year record and working to build preparedness for the next pandemic are still global issues. There are unfolding humanitarian crises across the world while military conflicts continue too with the Russian war in Ukraine about to enter its third year. The last few months have also seen the Israeli invasion of Gaza following the Hamas attack of October 7 that so far has resulted in the death of over 25‚000 Palestinian civilians and a daily death rate exceeding any other 21st-century conflict. The Bulletin also listed the deterioration of agreements to reduce nuclear weapons and the threat of biological weapons as a major threat‚ as well as the continued spread of misinformation on the internet‚ stoked by politicians‚ media‚ and pundits. The unregulated development of cyber technologies that might exacerbate the problem adds to the current concern about the future of humanity. Why Does The Doomsday Clock Move? The clock is moved based on the opinions and expertise of the members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. Since 1947‚ the Doomsday Clock has represented the ability of human-made threats to lead to our extinction. It's not surprising it was established at the dawn of the Cold War‚ when the US and the USSR raced to build as many nuclear weapons as possible. An atomic war today‚ as then‚ would certainly spell doom; even a relatively small conflict fought with nuclear weapons could kill tens of millions in just a few hours. Following such a war‚ it's estimated that 5 billion people would die from the subsequent famine. In 1947‚ the clock was initially set at 7 minutes to midnight. The furthest from midnight it has ever been set was in 1991‚ following the easing of tensions between the former Soviet Union and the United States‚ the reunification of Germany‚ and the signing of the first Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. It was set at 11:43 pm – 17 minutes to midnight. So‚ what are the criteria the Bulletin members must ask themselves to make their decisions? They must answer just two questions: is humanity safer than last year‚ and is humanity safer than it has been over the last 76 years from human-made threats? It has been set at less than two minutes to midnight for the last several years‚ reaching the 90-second mark for the first time last year. This year‚ the clock – and the threat – stays the same.“For decades‚ scientists have been warning us of the dangers facing humankind‚” Bill Nye‚ who participated in the 2024 Doomsday Clock announcement‚ said. “We could be facing catastrophe unless we better manage the technologies we’ve created. It’s time to act.”

People Are Asking Why Do We Feel Acceleration‚ But Not Constant Speed?

People Are Asking Why Do We Feel Acceleration‚ But Not Constant Speed?

As a science website‚ it's easy to get bogged down in questions like "Is there life on Enceladus?" and "Where are all the aliens?"‚ when people are struggling with more basic (but fun!) questions like "Why can't we power our cars with magnets?" and "If you fell from a skyscraper on the Moon‚ would you die or otherwise get badly injured?"Another basic question people have been asking: why do we feel acceleration‚ but not velocity? One person recently effectively asked this in the "Physics Is Fun" Facebook group."While traveling in a flight which is flying at a height of 30000 feet [9‚144 meters]‚ we feel as if we are sitting stationary (unmoved)‚" the Facebook user wrote. "How come it gives us such a feeling when the aircraft is cruising at 700 [kilometers] per hour [435 miles per hour]?"The short answer is that you only feel a force when a force is being applied to you. This only happens during acceleration‚ when the plane's engines push the plane forward. You feel that push via the seat‚ as you are accelerating. When you reach the cruising speed‚ however‚ force is not being applied to you via your seat. You are in a state of inertia‚ or the tendency for objects in motion to remain in motion in a straight line at the same velocity unless another force acts upon it.            Since the plane is remaining at the same speed‚ you carry on at that speed unless something acts upon you‚ like speeding up or slowing down of the aircraft. An easy way to think about this is to imagine what would happen if the plane were to suddenly stop while you were not wearing your seatbelt as the flight attendant advised. The answer is that you would continue your journey forward that you've been set upon until you are rapidly decelerated to rest by (for example) the chair in front of you. If they were to swing a left or right‚ of course‚ you would feel the centrifugal force‚ which isn't real‚ but let's not complicate things for now.If you were to feel speed and not velocity of a plane or car‚ that would be really‚ really weird‚ considering that the car is only going along at 110 kilometers per hour (68 miles per hour) while the planet orbits the Sun at 107‚000 kilometers per hour (66‚500 miles per hour)‚ and the Sun hurtles through the galaxy at 828‚000 kilometers per hour (514‚500 miles per hour). Let's just say it's good thing that we only feel acceleration.

Fox’s Doocy Battles KJP on Abortion‚ Border‚ Gets Backup from Daily Caller‚ EWTN

Monday’s Doocy Time was off to a raring start as‚ after some banter with the ever-inept Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre wondering where Doocy had been (since his last appearance on January 11)‚ Doocy cut to the case on Biden’s mental fitness‚ the border crisis‚ and a simple question Democrats refuse to answer: When‚ if at all‚ does President Biden believe abortions should be limited? Thankfully‚ he had help on the border from the Daily Caller’s Reagan Reese and on abortion from EWTN producer Toby Capion‚ who had an equally important question: Does President Biden believe unborn children have rights? But Doocy first led with the age question: “Karine‚ why do you think it is that more and more people polled feel like‚ over time‚ President Biden is getting less and less mentally sharp?” Asked to cite which poll‚ Doocy relayed that “ABC has President Biden’s rating for health since May down five points and for mental sharpness down four points.” DOOCY TIME: “Karine‚ why do you think it is that more and more people pooled feel like‚ over time‚ President Biden is getting less and less mentally sharp?” KJP: “Which poll is this?” Doocy: “ABC has President Biden's rating for health since May down five points and for mental… pic.twitter.com/tpIT4zcV4b — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) January 22‚ 2024 Jean-Pierre’s answer ignored it and went on a bizarre aside asserting without evidence that Donald Trump is his favorite President (click “expand”): JEAN-PIERRE: You know‚ I have to say that’s a little confusing for me‚ because if you look at what this President has done the last three years‚ historical pieces of legislation — right — When it comes to bipartisan infrastructure deal‚ Many presidents before‚ like your favorite President had said that — you tease — DOOCY: Who’s my favorite president? JEAN-PIERRE: Why don’t you — why don’t we let the American people guess‚ but — DOOCY: No‚ no‚ no‚ no. JEAN-PIERRE: — no‚ no‚ no. Let me finish. Let me finish. Let me finish. You asked me a question. I’m gonna —  DOOCY: I don’t understand what you’re getting at. JEAN-PIERRE: — let me let me finish. Let me finish. Let me finish.  And you’ll — you’ll guess who I’m talking about who used to say infrastructure week! Infrastructure week — which was a punchline — became a joke. And now we are seeing infrastructure decade because of this President. There’s the Chips and Science Act‚ right? There is the Inflation Reduction Act. These are legislation [sic] that is going to have a difference for generations to come‚ right? And so this is something that this president has done.  That’s pretty sharp for this president to have been able to do that. Let’s look at the economy. The economy — now — unemployment is under four percent‚ 14 million jobs created. The economy is in a better place than when it was when he walked in. That’s just a fact. That’s just the data and we’re seeing consumer sentiment is going up and we saw just in December how — how people spent more and we hadn’t seen that in some time. Som I think you needed a President like President Biden to get that type of stuff done. Someone who’s had Senate experience someone who was the VP — Vice President und — under President Obama‚ obviously and someone who has been a pretty effective President over the last three years. DOOCY: Okay. Doocy pivoted to immigration and a disturbing revelation in the dark-blue‚ rich‚ white D.C. suburb Fairfax County‚ Virginia that law enforcement there “ignored an ICE detainer” and thus “released an illegal immigrants from Honduras who’s charged with sexually assaulting a Virginia minor and production of sexual abuse material.” “Doesn’t that go to show that‚ as record numbers of people appear at the border‚ you guys have no idea what kind of people are coming into this country‚” he asked. Jean-Pierre insisted this was an example of why Biden’s “having negotiations with the Senate‚ Senators‚ Republicans and Democrats...to deal with...border security” (even though the White House is only there in a supporting role) and why he “on day one‚ put forward a comprehensive immigration plan...Congress didn’t do anything about” (which was little more than a liberal wishlist). Skipping ahead‚ Reese followed up on the border with another simple question that Jean-Pierre flubbed: “Biden admitted Friday that the border isn’t secure. Does he have any plans to visit the southern border before the election?” .@DailyCaller’s @ReaganReese_: “Biden admitted Friday that the border isn’t secure. Does he have any plans to visit the southern border before the election?” KJP: “The President was in — visited the border recently.” Reese: “In January.” KJP: “Yeah‚ well‚ that was — that was a… pic.twitter.com/ceT8F4hgoN — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) January 22‚ 2024 Jean-Pierre responded that he went “recently‚” but Reese pointed out it was “in January” as in a full year ago. Of course‚ Jean-Pierre shrugged off that difference and insisted a year ago was still “recently.” Reese pressed again: “In December 2023‚ [t]here were 300‚000 migrant encounters‚ which is the highest month ever on records‚ so how bad does the border crisis for Biden to take a trip back?” Jean-Pierre chose to ignore this and instead doubled down on his funding request (a classic throw-money-at-the-problem solution) and Senate negotiations. Back to Doocy‚ his third and final question touched on abortion: “[H]ow many weeks into a pregnancy does he think abortion should still be illegal?” Acknowledging this question has come up before (September 23‚ 2022 to be exact)‚ she struck a similar milquetoast tone that‚ in turn‚ indicated President Biden supports abortion‚ at a minimum‚ up until birth and falsely claimed Americans support him (click “expand”): So‚ you’ve asked me this question before. I’ve been very clear. The President’s been very clear. We want to see the protections in Roe. We want to see Roe become the law of the land. That’s what the President wants to see. That’s what the President believes in and let me be very clear here. It’s not some sort of shift that the President is making. Majority of Americans want to see their protections protected by their by — by this — by — by the — by the folks who are here in Washington‚ D. C in Congress by this President and the Vice President. That’s the President’s standing with majority of Americans. We saw that in the 2023 midterm elections‚ and we saw that in 2022‚ not midterm election‚ but the 2023 elections and 2022 midterm elections.  They’ve been very clear. We need to stand for freedoms‚ for make sure women have the right to make their own decision — personal decisions on their body‚ on their health care. That’s where a majority of Americans are. Guess what? Republican officials? They’re not. They’re — they’re not majority of Americans‚ so the President’s gonna continue to stand with the majority of Americans on this. Capion had the last back-and-forth of the afternoon‚ starting with a rupping of Doocy’s question about limits on abortion. She doubled down on her meally-mouthed take‚ adding she wouldn’t “get into it” any further since “Roe...was a constitutional law.” Um‚ what? Capion struck more pay dirt: “He also said he wants to be a President for all Americans‚ but how in this situation‚ with this issue‚ does he best represents the pro-life Americans who want to see more unborn babies saved?” EWTN’s @TobyCapion: “Karine‚ you said to Peter that the President wants to see Roe restored. It’s still not clear to me‚ though‚ if he supports the late term abortion restrictions that were included in Roe?” KJP: “I — well‚ if it's in Roe‚ then that's what he wants to see. I'm… pic.twitter.com/KOW4E6eX9z — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) January 22‚ 2024 After she reemphasized her claim Biden and the “majority of Americans” desire “women” being able to “make those deeply‚ deeply personal decisions”‚ Capion wrapped with a question more reporters would be asking if the profession wasn’t so addicted to baby-killing: “Do those unborn babies have any rights‚ then?” Disgustingly‚ Jean-Pierre scoffed at the notion the unborn are more than nuisances: I’m not going to get into that question. I’ve been very‚ very clear about this where majority of Americans stand and that’s what matters‚ but the President wants to see Roe become the law of the land‚ and that’s what he’s going to continue to asked Congress to do. Doesn’t that go to show that‚ as record numbers of people appear at the border‚ you guys have no idea what kind of people are coming into this country? JEAN-PIERRE: Let me just say — first of all‚ this is why the President is having negotiations with the Senate‚ Senators‚ Republicans and Democrats — right — for the past couple of weeks to deal with what’s going on at the border security — right — as it — as it relates to border security. This is why the President‚ on day one‚ put forward a comprehensive immigration plan that — about — more than three years now‚ Congress didn’t do anything about‚ but he’s appreciative that we’re having this conversation in the Senate. We’ve de — we’ve deployed additional troops and federal agents to the border who have‚ by the way‚ returned more than 482‚000 individuals since May. That’s the — that’s what we’ve been able to do. We’ve led the largest expansion of lawful pathways and that — we haven’t seen in some time. The President continues to have diplomatic conversation with Mexico‚ who have actually taken — taken actions to deal with — the situation. There’s more work to do.  There’s more work to do. We understand that. We have said that. You’ve heard that from the president on Friday. We understand that there is more work to do. We need more resources. We need more funding‚ which is why we’re having these negotiations on the Hill. But Republicans in the Senate is working with us. Republicans in the House are trying to get in the way‚ so it’s up to them. Are they going to help? Are they going to actually deal with an issue or continue to move forward in a political stunt? DOOCY: And‚ as President Biden tries to make the national conversation more about reproductive rights‚ abortion‚ how many weeks into a pregnancy does he think abortion should still be illegal? JEAN-PIERRE: So‚ you’ve asked me this question before. I’ve been very clear. The President’s been very clear. We want to see the protections in Roe. We want to see Roe become the law of the land. The President understands what’s going on at the border‚ which is why he included in his national security supplemental — right — which is again a request that is‚ when — when you feel like there’s an emergency‚ you make that supplemental request‚ which is what the President did‚ it included border security. It included‚ obviously‚ Ukraine and Israel. And it is incredibly important‚ which is why he continues to push for it‚ and you’re seeing those conversations happening in the Senate a bipartisan way — a bipartisan agreement and the President’s very thankful to that.  And so‚ I’m going to leave that there. He’s taking this very seriously. Remember day one — day one‚ he put forward an immigration‚ comprehensive immigration legislation. (....) 2:07 p.m. Eastern TOBY CAPION: Karine‚ you said to Peter that the President wants to see Roe restored. It’s still not clear to me‚ though‚ if he supports the late term abortion restrictions that were included in Roe? JEAN-PIERRE: I — well‚ if it’s in Roe‚ then that’s what he wants to see. I’m just not going to get into it. It’s whatever is in Roe — what Roe when it was a constitutional law — that’s what the President wants to see restored. He’s been very clear about that. CAPION: He also said he wants to be a President for all Americans‚ but how in this situation‚ with this issue‚ does he best represents the pro-life Americans who want to see more unborn babies saved? JEAN-PIERRE: What I will say is majority of Americans — majority of Americans wants to see their rights protected‚ wants to see women have their rights protected‚ wants to be able to — wants — want women to be able to make those deeply‚ deeply personal decisions on their bodies‚ on their own‚ not politicians. That’s what majority of Americans want to see. And so‚ the President is going to stand with majority of Americans on this issue. CAPION: Do those unborn babies have any rights‚ then? JEAN-PIERRE: I’m not going to get into that specific — I’m not going to get into that question. I’ve been very‚ very clear about this where majority of Americans stand and that’s what matters‚ but the President wants to see Roe become the law of the land‚ and that’s what he’s going to continue to asked Congress to do.

Transportation After the SHTF

One of the subjects that seem to get overlooked in the prepping community is that of transportation. Oh‚ we’re great at talking about our bug out vehicles; but that’s not what I’m talking about. The post Transportation After the SHTF appeared first on Survivopedia.
