There’s a lot of great television out there right now, so much that it can be difficult to keep up. All he wants is a chance at the role of a lifetime, that of Wonder Man in the new reboot. “Wonder Man” is a buddy comedy starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Aquaman”) as Simon Williams and Sir Ben Kingsley (“Iron Man 3”) as Trevor Slattery—also known as The Mandarin—with goddamn Josh Gad making a brilliantly amusing cameo.  “Wonder Man” is Marvel having fun. It’s meta, it’s the exploration of the everyday man who happens to live in a world with superpowered beings and who also, oops, happens to be one of them, and it’s sharply funny. Watch it. Do it now. “The Pitt” – HBO Max Hold up, you’re not already watching “The Pitt?” What, you don’t like tension, drama, and humanity? Is that it?? In its season two return, “The Pitt” drops us right back into a shift in an emergency center, this time on the Fourth of July. Every episode takes place in real time over the course of an hour, “24”-style, and follows the attendings, residents, nurses, and newbies as they care for their patients (and… sort of… themselves) in a Pittsburgh hospital. Yeah, Noah Wyle (“ER”) is back as a doctor again. Don’t act like you don’t love it. “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” – HBO Max In what might be considered the best “Game of Thrones” adaptation yet, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” brings to life some of George R. R. Martin’s small folk known affectionately as Dunk and Egg. Peter Claffey (“Vikings: Valhalla”) plays Dunk, the would-be hedge knight, while Dexter Sol Ansell (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”) shines as Egg, his runaway squire. When the two show up to a tournament hoping to make a name for themselves, they run into houses that will ring a bell for any “Fire and Ice” fans, including Baratheon, Dondarion, Tully, Tyrell, and, oh yeah, a little one called Targaryen. Dragons may have been killed out by the time Dunk makes his appearance in the annals of Westeros history, but there will still be fire. Enjoy.  Star Trek: Starfleet Academy – Paramount+ “Star Trek” has always paved the way for the best of humanity, no matter which frontier its characters journeyed to. The latest addition to the Trek canon, “Starfleet Academy,” is no different. Following a fresh class of cadets as they train under new and recognizable members of Starfleet, the series takes place in the 32nd century, after events in “Star Trek: Discovery” and the shattered Federation of Planets.Stephen Colbert (“The Late Show”) makes his “Trek” debut, alongside Holly Hunter (“Raising Arizona”). This first season also sees Robert Picardo (“Star Trek: Voyager”) return to the franchise as The Doctor. Paradise – Hulu If you didn’t watch season one of “Paradise,” then you’re going to want to beware of spoilers because season two just launched with a bang. It’s a fun show to go into blind, with a stellar cast, headlined by Sterling K. Brown (“American Fiction”), epic characters, and a great mystery at its heart.  The Night Agent – Netflix “The Night Agent” is back for season three, following Gabriel Basso’s (“A House of Dynamite”) Peter Sutherland, the man with a calling. This show is a solid thriller and action series about a green FBI agent who is thrust into danger and conspiracy at the highest levels. The series is propulsively successful, confident, and compelling—there’s a reason it made headlines as Netflix’s most-watched show of 2023.
