CBS’s Brennan SHOCKED That a Republican Will Vote For The Republican Nominee

Sunday political talk shows are supposed to be‚ I’m told‚ a place where political affairs are talked about both for and by the smart set. Today‚ one of the smart set appears to have been confused by a Trump-opposed Republican stating that he will nonetheless vote for Donald Trump if he is the 2024 GOP nominee‚ rather than vote for Joe Biden. Watch this incredible exchange between New Hampshire governor and Nikki Haley surrogate Chris Sununu and CBS’s Margaret Brennan on Face The Nation: BRENNAN: So you said recently that if your candidate doesn't win the nomination‚ you would still support the party nominee. But back in June‚ when you said you personally decided not to run for president‚ you said if Trump wins‚ Republicans will lose again. He didn't deliver on his promises to drain the swamp‚ secure the border‚ instill fiscal responsibility. He has numerous investigations. He’s peddling conspiracy theories. So why do you no longer have such a strong conviction?  SUNUNU: I absolutely do. Look‚ all that stands today…  BRENNAN: But you would support him if he’s the nominee..  SUNUNU: I would support him‚ but… Yeah‚ I never said I wouldn't support him. We never said we wouldn’t support the Republican nominee. But then there’s the way he’s the weakest candidate…  BRENNAN: But you said he would be harmful. SUNUNU: …to go up against Donald Trump. Yeah‚ but- I didn't say I wasn't going to support him. Republicans are going to support him. This would be a nail-biter race come November. With Nikki Haley at the top‚ she wins by ten points. It’s a fundamentally different argument because you get the Senate‚ you get the House seats‚ you get the governorships‚ you get all the way down the ticket. The Republicans win. Donald Trump is simply the weakest candidate. And so‚ again that’s the opportunity that Nikki brings to table. BRENNAN: Okay. I'm sorry‚ you're saying you would still support the weakest candidate even though it would hurt your party in down ballot races just to be…consistent? SUNUNU:  Margaret. We're talking about the general election here.  BRENNAN: Yeah. SUNUNU: Trump versus Biden. Right? Do you think I'm going to vote for Joe Biden? What- with what he's done to this country‚ with what he’s done with inflation and crush middle American families? I think Trump’s the weakest nominee and would have a tough time beating Biden for sure- but we're going to support the Republican nominee.  This unbelievable exchange was Brennan’s attempt at playing gotcha with Sununu over his recent past criticism of former President Donald Trump. These past criticisms and ongoing reservations as expressed by Sununu were‚ in Brennan’s mind‚ to carry on to the general election. Brennan seemed legitimately confused when Sununu expressed that he would vote for Trump over Biden‚ misgivings notwithstanding.  Brennan conveyed this confusion over Sununu’s statements via a head tilt‚ performed TWICE during this exchange‚ and which I saw most recently performed by my 9-week-old puppy as I voiced my displeasure at his decision to poop on the floor. But Brennan’s part of the D.C. smart set. Sununu’s statements were easy to understand‚ and his logic was consistent all the way through. Brennan wasn’t confused. Her appropriation of the canine expression was not intended to convey confusion‚ but rather displeasure‚ at Sununu’s expressed choice. How dare Sununu vote for Trump despite his misgivings instead of pulling the lever for Joe Biden? He might as well have pooped on Brennan’s floor. That brief exchange demonstrates‚ not just in words but in body language‚ the contempt that the media have for conservatives.   Click “expand” to view the full transcript of the aforementioned interview as aired on CBS Face The Nation on Sunday‚ January 14th‚ 2024: MARGARET BRENNAN: And we turn now to Governor and Nikki Haley supporter Chris Sununu‚ who joins us from Newfields‚ New Hampshire. Good to have you back with us.  GOV. CHRIS SUNUNU: You bet.  BRENNAN: So‚ Governor‚ Donald Trump won New Hampshire's primary in 2016. It legitimized his campaign‚ helped launch him to the presidency. He’s leading‚ again‚ in the New Hampshire polls. So is this really just about Nikki Haley potentially coming in second place?  SUNUNU: No‚ no. Not at all. Look‚ I mean‚ the media and- has told the world that Donald Trump was gonna win every state and run away with this. It wasn't even going to be a race. It obviously is a race. Nikki Haley is the only candidate surging in Iowa and in New Hampshire. The fact that if Nikki can post a strong second here‚ that would’ that’s great and we're going to do that. But now there’s even a chance of kind of shattering the presumptions that Donald Trump’s gonna run away with this- and that happens right here in New Hampshire. She can challenge him to beat- to win the state‚ go into her home state with nearly a month of campaigning there. She knows how to win there. And that‚ again‚ just breaks down this assumption by the whole country that it’s Trump’s to be had. So by doing that you kind of hit a reset‚ if you will‚ on the entire campaign narrative and put Nikki right at the top of the heap.  BRENNAN: So you said recently that if your candidate doesn't win the nomination‚ you would still support the party nominee. But at the end of the day‚ that’s why Nikki Haley is surging. That’s why so many people are getting behind. That’s why you can sit- again‚ I tell the folks in Iowa and New Hampshire‚ you could sit on the couch and wait to see what happens or you can go caucus for Nikki Haley in Iowa. You can make sure you vote in New Hampshire. The higher the voter turnout‚ the better chance there is of defeating Donald Trump. And that happens- don’t wait for a court case. Don’t wait for external factors that aren’t gonna happen. That’s going to happen at the ballot box. And that’s the opportunity over the next ten days. To turn this entire narrative around that Trump’s just going to run away with this thing. Nikki’s the opportunity for the Republican Party.  BRENNAN: So…2022 was the most dangerous year for overdoses in New Hampshire since 2017‚ which was the same time Trump called your state a drug-infested den. What do you think- on the serious matter of addiction in this country- what is happening in your state that has had addiction‚ specifically now with fentanyl‚ only continue to be a problem through these administrations?  SUNUNU: Well‚ yeah‚ again‚ you're looking at small data. Since 2017‚ fentanyl-driven deaths in this country have exceeded a 60% increase. We’ve gone down. We’ve actually gone down. And our numbers will be lower than '22 even again this year. So our model is actually breaking the national trends. Our model is one where we provide rural access to care. We're not just pumping more money into old systems. We’ve rebuilt our entire system around it. We used to be one of the number one‚ number two in terms of drug and fentanyl driven deaths in the country‚ we're now around 23‚ 24. So‚ again‚ we have a lot of work to do. The entire country does. But understand‚ the entire country has skyrocketed‚ where we've actually gone down and broken that mold. I think we have a terrific model here. It’s working‚ it’s going to take time. Then implement that around mental health services as well. You implement that around all the other services. The majority of services in this country are focused on the inner cities. It’s wrong. It’s not the best way to do it. You have to have that rural access to care. Especially around fentanyl and overdoses and xylazine- all these other new drugs that are kind of coming on to the market. We've been on the forefront of that stuff.  BRENNAN: Governor‚ we wish you luck with that. Thank you for your time this morning. We’ll be right back.

Regime Media Try Out New Biden Talking Points To Counter Concerns Over Age

On both NBC and ABC’s Sunday political affairs shows‚ there was significant time devoted to the matter of President Biden’s age and whether he is mentally able to conduct the affairs of the presidency in a theoretical second term. Watch as NBC’s Kristen Welker broaches the subject with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on Meet The Press: KRISTEN WELKER: Let's talk about some of the challenges that President Biden faces. One of them is his age. You've been an outspoken defender on this issue. This week‚ the First Lady went so far to say it's an asset. But voters aren't buying that. What does the campaign need to do to address this issue?  GOV. TIM WALZ (D-MN): Well‚ first there is something to be said about age and wisdom and I think results matter. Look‚ I served in Congress for years and watched Infrastructure Week come and go. I watched Joe Biden deliver on a historic infrastructure act that’s building roads and bridges across Minnesota‚ Iowa‚ and the rest of the country. And I think it’s- as you start to see here where the choice becomes the binary choice between Donald Trump and disdain for the rule of law‚ and Joe Biden competency and getting things done. That overweighs that.   WELKER: Hm. But‚ I guess the question is‚ is the campaign taking this issue seriously enough? Do they need to do more?  WALZ: Oh‚ I think they are. They've got us out here talking about it and I’ve spent a lot of time with the president‚ and he's great. We're talking and chatting and all this and I think‚ you know‚ we all get a little older- that's what happens‚ but you also gain that insight. And I think when it comes to these issues‚ working across the aisle to get things done‚ you see the president just doing this with dignity‚ doing it with class and getting up every day‚ doing the work. So I think he's just doing what he does and it's incumbent upon all of us- look. My mom is 88‚ still living on the farm‚ drives herself‚ um… folks are able to do this. So I think this little bit of ageism that goes to this- if it’s not that‚ it would be something else. They attack all of us on something‚ this is part of it. Ageism‚ you see. Walz had plenty of time to talk about Biden’s age. Welker didn’t interview him on this or ask real follow-up questions so much as she teed Walz up to deliver the talking points‚ with a focus on the infrastructure bill. And note where Welker’s concerns lie- not with the voters who are legitimately concerned about the declining abilities of President Chocolate Chocolate Chip- but whether the campaign is doing enough to address these concerns.  We find similar themes on ABC’s This Week‚ hosted by Jon Kark. Watch the similarities in the defense against the charge that Biden is too old‚ as expressed by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker:  JON KARL: I mean‚ obviously‚ aside from the issues and where people think the economy is‚ you have the question of the president's age. I mean‚ it's just there in poll after poll‚ not just ours. Our poll‚ in fact‚ said 28% -- just 28% think that President Biden has the mental sharpness to effectively serve for another term. So how does he address those concerns‚ those very real concerns that voters have?  GOV. J.B. PRITZKER (D-IL):  Maybe we ought to start by just acknowledging that Joe Biden has years of experience. That when you talk about someone's age‚ you're also talking about the wisdom that they've gained over many years‚ and how they've demonstrated their empathy that they've learned from so many experiences. Joe Biden and Donald Trump are roughly the same age. Do you think Donald Trump has learned empathy in his life? He has not. Joe Biden has demonstrated it at every turn. Think about what he's accomplished across the aisle because of his years of experience‚ not in a partisan fashion‚ but a bipartisan fashion. Getting a serious bill passed to improve our infrastructure across the nation to make sure to create jobs and bring manufacturing back to the United States. That's what he's done‚ and again‚ working with Republicans. The majorities that he's gotten have had Republicans and Democrats voting together. That’s who Joe Biden is‚ and that’s what age and experience brings. Alas‚ Karl was satisfied enough by this response that he would proffer no follow-up question. Notice the similarities with Walz’ responses. Wisdom. Infrastructure bill. Experience. Pritzker went above and beyond‚ offering that classic Biden empathy. In any case‚ the fact that the age question was brought simultaneously shows a concern not quite assuaged by the surrogates’ responses. It also exposes who the media believe to be the truest‚ purest victim of this line of questioning subsequent to the legitimate concerns of voters as expressed in poll after poll: the electoral prospects of Joe Biden.

RIP Artifact: 2 app alternatives now that it’s shutting down

Well‚ that was fast. Just a year after Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger launched their first post-Instagram project -- the personalized social news aggregator app Artifact -- they abruptly decided to call it quits‚ having come to the conclusion that "the market opportunity isn't enough to warrant continued investment" in the product. That announcement on Friday certainly came as a shock to many (but not all) of Artifact's small but loyal user base‚ many of whom had been attracted to everything from the app's slick UI to its myriad innovations‚ like the ability to create AI-generated images for posts inside the app as well as the ability to mark news articles as clickbait (at which point AI would rewrite the headline). Plenty of Artifact's users‚ meanwhile‚ took to social media to claim they weren't surprised at all that the app is shuttering‚ given the tough road faced by what was largely a content aggregation app starting from scratch in an overly-saturated marketplace. We can certainly debate all day long about what Artifact‚ which was initially presented as a kind of TikTok for text‚ got right and wrong. But right now‚ at least in my mind‚ there's a much more interesting question that Artifact's users are asking in comments and posts everywhere from X to Reddit over the last day or so: Where do we go now? Many of those users‚ and I suppose I'll include myself in this group‚ had flocked to Artifact to begin with in the wake of volatility at Elon Musk's X. Does it necessarily follow that those users are now going to just return to the Wild West of X‚ as Artifact winds down in the coming weeks? I don't think so. As I see it‚ there are two very solid apps that are worth Artifact's users migrating to (if they aren't there already): Apple News‚ and Flipboard. Both of which will be attractive to Artifact users for very different reasons. We'll start with a particular kind of user that X has run off -- people who just want a daily dose of information‚ in the form of a drip feed that shares the most interesting and important updates from accounts they follow‚ minus the drama you get from the trolls and crazies that dominate X. Many of those disaffected X users migrated over to Artifact in the hopes of a straightforward news app. Which it was‚ for a time. If that's largely what you want -- a vertically scrolling stream of headlines and just the facts‚ ma'am -- then‚ in my opinion‚ Apple News is the app for you. Apple News Image source: Apple There are no social features whatsoever‚ of the sort that Artifact users eventually started to complain about. The basic functionality is that you follow as many publishers or topics as you want‚ and your feed will be populated with an infinitely scrolling collection of content. Furthermore‚ there are two settings you can enable to even more granularly control your feed: You can restrict stories with explicit content‚ and you can also limit Apple News to only showing you content from sources that you actually follow (rather than the app showing you content from sources you don't follow but that the app thinks you might like). The second app that I think Artifact users ought to switch to is Flipboard -- and it's partly because some of you say you want a newsreader app‚ but you don't really mean it. Artifact‚ for example‚ got lots of negative comments both in the app as well as via reviews left in the Apple and Google app stores expressing frustration at seeing news that the user didn't agree with or like (which is not necessarily the app's fault) and also frustration over seeing too much news (like all those Russia updates from Newsweek that it felt like Artifact was flooded with every time I opened it). Flipboard on the web Image source: Flipboard If you're more in this latter camp‚ then the kind of app I suspect you want is one that's good at delivering you news -- albeit‚ within the context of your interests. That‚ my friends‚ is Flipboard. "It’s always tough to hear about a startup shutting down its service‚" Flipboard head of content and communications Marci McCue told me Friday via email. "Of course we think many people who used Artifact for curated news would also love Flipboard‚ and we hope they try it out. "We’ve built a system that blends human curation with algorithms where our editors and users curate the most important stories for people every day. They are sure to find topics they care about on Flipboard. But beyond that‚ this year we’re opening Flipboard up to the larger Fediverse ecosystem where millions of people can engage with any of the stories shared on our platform. As we federate our service‚ everyone on Flipboard can be a part of this growing community and find new connections around the content they love." The other great thing I'll say about Flipboard is that while it has the human element‚ the curation‚ and the community that Apple News lacks‚ Flipboard also hasn't gone overboard in building the kind of wild‚ hard-to-moderate space for user-generated content that Artifact was starting to turn into. It's simply a collection of the best of the web‚ delivered inside a beautiful reading experience. In fact‚ perhaps the best thing I can say about Flipboard‚ as a longtime user‚ is that I've never once closed the app after spending any amount of time using it and felt unsatisfied‚ like I'd just wasted a few precious minutes. The difference between apps like Flipboard and Artifact is the difference between sitting with a book you love in front of a cozy fireplace‚ versus listening to people vying for your attention by clamoring about‚ say‚ Elon‚ AI‚ and crypto inside a bar while you're trying to figure out where to sit. Why Is Brooke Shields’ Role in 1978 Movie ‘Pretty Baby’ Considered Controversial?

The award-winning documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields details the life of the child actress Brooke Shields‚ who played the trafficked daughter of a prostitute in Louis Malle’s 1978 movie Pretty Baby. The film received backlash due to controversial scenes Brooke had to do‚ including one where she appeared nude. The documentary’s synopsis on ABC’s website reads‚ “‘Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields’ follows Shields through her extraordinary childhood and complex relationship with her mother and manager‚ Teri Shields. Brooke Shields’ professional career began at only 11 months old‚ working as a child model before starring in Louis Malle’s controversial film Pretty Baby at the age of 12.” Brooke Shields controversial role in ‘Pretty Baby’ — A Reflection PRETTY BABY: BROOKE SHIELDS‚ Brooke Shields‚ 2023. © Hulu /Courtesy Everett Collection Having been unaware of how controversial her role was at the time‚ Brooke considered Pretty Baby “the most beautiful movie I’ve ever made” and “the only real quality film I’ve ever been in.” RELATED: Brooke Shields Gets Candid About Having To Kiss A Grown Man At 11 “I value that movie in such a different way and wrote my thesis on it. I’m fascinated with that journey of innocence to experience and who owns it‚” she told The New Yorker last year. “Do they become a victim to it? Or do they not?” PRETTY BABY‚ from left: Brooke Shields‚ Keith Carradine‚ 1978‚ © Paramount/courtesy Everett Collection She did more leading roles in movies like The Blue Lagoon and Endless Love‚ but none came close to Pretty Baby in her heart. “It’s very interesting to me‚ that movie. You couldn’t make it today‚ obviously‚” she added. After her hiatus from the spotlight to attend college‚ Brooke returned to film as a “more confident and more proud” adult who‚ without her degree‚ would not “have been able to adapt or reinvent.” Brooke sought validation from Susan Sarandon Brooke worked 12 to 15 hours daily as a 12-year-old while filming Pretty Baby and faced abuse on set. She had to wear antique footwear that broke her skin and got hit multiple times by her co-star Susan Sarandon‚ whose approval she craved very much. “I wanted so much approval from her— as a woman‚ as an actress‚ as a mom‚” Brooke admitted. “She was a maternal figure for me in the film‚ and she was very serious.” PRETTY BABY‚ Brooke Shields‚ Susan Sarandon‚ 1978‚ ©Paramount/courtesy Everett Collection However‚ after receiving nine consecutive slaps from Susan‚ everything changed for Brooke. “I never felt like I got approval from her.
