Apple’s iOS 18 update might not have the major redesign we heard about

Apple’s iOS 18 update might not have the major redesign we heard about

iOS 18 was expected to be an "ambitious and compelling" update. At least‚ this is what Bloomberg's Mark Gurman heard from a top voice at Apple's headquarters. Although he never said this upcoming operating system would get a redesign overhaul‚ we did hear that Cupertino was readying an AI-inspired update. Now‚ in his latest Power On newsletter‚ Gurman believes Apple is working on updating the "design of iOS as early as this year‚ but I don't believe it will be a total overhaul that mirrors visionOS." With that in mind‚ Apple might be planning to change a few elements of the iPhone's operating system‚ but not all. While visionOS brings 3D aesthetic buttons and glassy background textures‚ iOS 17 doesn't have either this concept or Apple's macOS look. Even though a sketchy leak suggested that iOS 18 could get a major visionOS-like design update‚ it's more likely that the company will only polish a few elements. Here's why. Apple will never relive its iOS 7 moment by redesigning iOS 18 Image source: Apple Inc. Almost 11 years since Apple revamped iOS with its seventh major update‚ I don't think Cupertino will ever take a bold approach with its iPhone operating system again. While the design change from skeuomorphism to flat and simple became a trend‚ this release was also marked by its Apple Maps fiasco introduction and the end of the partnership between Apple and Google with a built-in YouTube app. Even though the system has completely changed this past decade‚ Apple doesn't seem ready to reinvent the wheel. When the company introduced macOS Big Sur and its new look‚ it was rumored that its icons would come to iOS. They didn't. Now that visionOS is available‚ it's only natural that leakers and reports point in this direction‚ but we won't likely see this change. For those eagerly waiting for iOS 18‚ I'd instead expect AI changes rather than a design revamp. If you're curious about what Apple is preparing for this operating system update‚ BGR has compiled a guide with all the latest reports below. Don't Miss: iOS 18: Release date‚ AI‚ supported iPhones‚ and everything we know The post Apple’s iOS 18 update might not have the major redesign we heard about appeared first on BGR. Apple Glasses‚ smart ring‚ and AirPods with camera: Absurd products that Apple actually worked on

Apple Glasses‚ smart ring‚ and AirPods with camera: Absurd products that Apple actually worked on

Apple Glasses‚ smart ring‚ and AirPods with cameras are three products that Apple actually considered releasing – and‚ eventually‚ they could see the light of day. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman‚ in his Power On newsletter‚ Cupertino has discussed and idealized these products. Here's what we know. Apple's smart glasses: The journalist says Apple could tackle Meta and Amazon by releasing smart glasses‚ which could take advantage of cameras and AI to identify things in the real world. In addition‚ this could be yet another step for Apple's future AR glasses. Still‚ this kind of Apple Glasses is nowhere near release‚ as it's just an idea‚ and people at the company are still pitching this device. Apple Ring: With Samsung about to release its Galaxy Ring‚ an industry source quoted by ET News said Apple was also readying its own Oura-lie competitor. The report mentioned that the company was "steadily applying for patents‚" with "advanced development for commercialization" imminent. Now‚ Gurman says otherwise‚ and this ring‚ like the Apple Glasses‚ is just an idea. Apple could build a Samsung Galaxy Ring competitor Image source: Chris Smith‚ BGR AirPods with a camera: Lastly‚ Gurman says Apple is already in the early stages of developing AirPods with a camera. According to the journalist‚ this device codenamed B798‚ started development last year. The company wants to fit "low-resolution camera sensors into earbuds about the size of today’s AirPods. Such cameras could theoretically be used to capture data that would be processed via AI and assist people in their daily routines." Previously‚ Gurman said Apple is readying a few health-related features for an upcoming AirPods Pro 3. While this device is planned for a 2025 release‚ it's interesting that a low-resolution camera for the wireless earbuds could be in the works for this reason. Apple Glasses‚ smart ring‚ or AirPods with camera: Which one could actually launch? Image source: Christian de Looper for BGR Since AirPods with a camera left the concept world and are now being treated as a prototype‚ this product could likely see the light of day sooner. I also think a smart ring could potentially launch in the future. It's more discrete than a smartwatch‚ and it might be a complement for health measurement. Also‚ I don't think it would replace the Apple Watch; it would improve its usage. Lastly‚ the Apple Glasses could be doable‚ but I'm not sure Apple would be willing to partner with a sunglasses maker to apply its technology to glasses. Meta seems on the right path now‚ but I'd say Apple is focusing on a better product to release in a few years. Don't Miss: Apple’s rumored smart ring could help with my Apple Watch addiction The post Apple Glasses‚ smart ring‚ and AirPods with camera: Absurd products that Apple actually worked on appeared first on BGR. Zelensky: 31‚000 Ukrainian troops killed since start of Russia&;#039;s invasion

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday that 31‚000 Ukrainian troops have been killed since Russia began its invasion. The big picture: It's the first time Zelensky has publicly confirmed the number of Ukrainian military deaths since Russia started its full-scale invasion two years ago. What he's saying: "31‚000 Ukrainian military personnel have been killed in this war‚ not 300‚000‚ not 150‚000‚ not whatever [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and...
