This sweet little one gets their nickname from their adorable moves‚ but the critter’s official name is Coquerel’s sifaka. Unfortunately‚ this means that they’re among the world’s most threatened primates. But there is good news: Folks like the ones at Chester Zoo are working to change that‚ and the birth of this rare lemur is a fantastic next step. The birth of this little one has been a long time coming. Their parents‚ Beatrice and Elliot‚ are originally from a U.S. zoo. In 2021‚ they were transferred to Chester Zoo in the UK. Dancing Lemur Baby Melts Hearts Around the World “We are the only zoo in the UK and one of just three in Europe currently caring for this critically endangered species‚” Chester Zoo says. “These incredible lemurs are only found on the island of Madagascar where they face a fight for survival. For more than a decade we’ve been working with our in-country field partners Madagasikara Voakajy to help develop a special area of protected forest to safeguard the island’s unique wildlife.” Born on September 21‚ 2023 at 120 grams (0.26 pounds)‚ this little one is already so loved by so many! According to the zoo’s Facebook page‚ this cutie is already lively and bursting with energy.
