The family of Gabby Petito has settled their civil lawsuit against the parents of Brian Laundrie and their former attorney out of court‚ the details of which have not been made public. The settlement allows the families to avoid a civil trial‚ which could have publicly revealed information not previously known about the death of Petito at the hands of Laundrie. Laundrie admitted to killing his fiancée in a case that gained national attention. Laundrie’s parents released a statement through their former attorney‚ Steven Bertolino‚ regarding the settlement. “Christopher and Roberta Laundrie and I participated in mediation with the Petito family and the civil lawsuit has now been resolved‚” the statement said‚ according to WWSB. “The terms of the resolution are confidential‚ and we look forward to putting this matter behind us.” Petito’s family filed the lawsuit against the Laundries and Bertolino last year‚ alleging the Laundries helped their son escape law enforcement. A civil trial for the lawsuit was scheduled to begin in May but will no longer take place. Petito’s parents were seeking $100‚000 for pain and suffering due to the alleged actions of the Laundries. It is unclear how much‚ if any‚ money they will receive in the settlement. Laundrie is believed to have committed suicide after he went missing following the murder of his fiancée‚ whom Laundrie admitted to killing‚ according to the FBI. His remains were found in Florida’s Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October 2021‚ and his family’s attorney released the notebook found with his body in June 2022. “I ended her life‚” Laundrie wrote‚ according to a copy of the notebook exclusively provided to Fox News. “I thought it was merciful‚ that it is what she wanted‚ but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was in shock.” Laundrie went on to claim that Petito‚ who was 22 when Laundrie strangled her to death‚ had injured herself in a fall while they were visiting Wyoming and that he killed her to take “away her pain.” “Rushing back to our car trying to cross the streams of spread creek before it got too dark to see‚ to [sic] cold. I hear a splash and a scream‚” Laundrie wrote‚ adding that he carried her as far as he could but had to stop to make a fire to keep them warm when he couldn’t make it back to the couple’s van. She was last seen alive in late August before her family reported her missing in early September after Laundrie returned to his parents’ home in Florida without her. A Republican congressman said on Sunday he found a way to force a package linking foreign aid with some border security reforms to the House floor for consideration. Former President Donald Trump filed notices of appeal on Monday‚ asking New York state’s mid-level appeals court to overturn the judgment in a controversial civil fraud case that totaled a stunning $454 million‚ including interest. Earlier this month‚ Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay more than $350 million‚ barred him from doing business in New York for three years‚ and fined his sons‚ Don Trump Jr. and Eric Trump‚ more than $4 million each. The judge agreed with left-wing Attorney General Letitia James‚ who campaigned on a promise to “take on” Trump‚ that the former president made misleading financial statements to banks to secure better terms on loans. Though‚ notably‚ the defense stood by the evaluations and highlighted that all the loans were repaid and there were no victims of the supposed financial fraud. The appeal from Trump’s lawyers suggests that Engoron “committed errors of law and/or fact” and abused his discretion or “acted in excess” of his jurisdiction‚ according to the Associated Press. “We trust that the Appellate Division will overturn this egregious fine and take the necessary steps to restore the public faith in New York’s legal system‚” Trump lawyer Alina Habba said in a statement. Trump has until March 25 to secure a stay‚ or a pause‚ to stop financial collection of the judgment‚ the AP notes. The former president would automatically receive a stay if he were to put up money or assets to cover the judgment. The 2024 SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards ceremony took place Saturday night‚ with current popular titles “Oppenheimer” and “The Bear” taking home multiple awards. Christopher Nolan’s historical drama about the creation of the atomic bomb won for best performance by a cast in a motion picture‚ per The Hollywood Reporter. Harvard University’s chief diversity and inclusion officer‚ accused of rampant plagiarism‚ is now advising the university’s task force to combat anti-Semitism‚ rankling Jewish students who view the obsession with diversity as a root cause of anti-Semitism on campus. Sherri Ann Charleston‚ who is Harvard’s first-ever chief diversity officer‚ is now an advisor to the Presidential Task Force on Combating Antisemitism‚ Interim Harvard President Alan M. Garber announced. Charleston was also just last month accused of 40 allegations of plagiarism including in her 2009 dissertation‚ according to the Free Beacon. Harvard Divinity School student‚ Shabbos Kestenbaum‚ who is currently suing the school for enabling anti-Semitism‚ told The Daily Wire that he is disappointed with Charleston’s new duty. “Sherri Charleston is facing more than 40 allegations of severe plagiarism‚ including data manipulation spanning more than a decade‚” he said. “It’s remarkable that rather than disciplining her in a way a student would be disciplined for far less‚ Charleston is awarded a prestigious position on a Harvard task force.” Kestenbaum added that DEI is “part of the insidious ideology that justifies and provides a rationale for anti-Semitism.” “Why would Harvard appoint its highest officer to combat something her office promotes? Would Harvard appoint an oil executive to their climate change study? Would Harvard appoint a racist to their legacies of slavery initiative? American Idol is back‚ and young singer Abi Carter took the judges by storm with her rendition of “What Was I Made For?‚” the Billie Eilish tune featured in the Barbie movie. Abi is 21 years old‚ but her voice shares a lifetime of emotions and power. This was the perfect song for her — and the judges knew it! She started her audition by answering judges questions about how she grew up.
