RECENT PHOTOS! Is There a MONSTER Living in Moosehead Lake‚ Maine?

A reader‚ who is currently vacationing on Moosehead Lake‚ Maine‚ was taking a walk along the lake when she noticed a large greyish-blue‚ smooth-skinned creature break the surface.I recently received the following account on 1/6/2024:"Good evening Lon!I'm currently on vacation in Northern Maine‚ at some family's houses near Moosehead Lake.Earlier this morning‚ I was walking along the edge of the lake and saw a large animal (?) surface briefly. Managed to take three photos I'm sending your way.It was a greyish-blue‚ with no real identifiable traits. Skin looked smooth‚ and had some lighter stripes. At least two of them‚ right next to each other. That surfacing was really short and then they disappeared.I do not believe these are fish or seals‚ but I can't confidently rule anything out. Hopefully‚ you will be able to spread the word and maybe get something more conclusive. If you want more information let me know! Apologies for the blurry photographs‚ going to attempt some better stuff tomorrow‚ maybe I'll see something.Thank you for your time‚ best wishes‚ L"NOTE: Moosehead Lake is located in west-central Maine‚ and is a landlocked body of water. It is approximately 120 miles southeast of the St. Lawrence Seaway and 125 miles northwest of the Atlantic Ocean. There are no rivers or other waterways connecting the lake to ocean sources. The known fish species in the lake consist of Landlocked salmon‚ Lake trout‚ Brook trout‚ Round whitefish‚ Rainbow smelt‚ Smallmouth bass‚ White perch‚ Yellow perch‚ Longnose sucker‚ White sucker‚ Rompout (bullhead)‚ and Burbot (cusk). There have been rumors of a Wendigo haunting the lake area traditionally‚ but as far as a lake monster‚ I couldn't find any substantial references. Japan Earthquake ‘Miracle’ Reunites Arizona School Teacher With Her Japanese Host Family After 22 Years

After Japan’s 7.6 earthquake on January 1st‚ veteran educator Anne Hanson urgently sought to learn the fate of her former host family who live in Uozu‚ a coastline city not far from the quake’s epicenter. After decades-old email addresses proved useless‚ Anne searched the internet for Uozu information and made a hope-against-hope effort to reach […] The post Japan Earthquake ‘Miracle’ Reunites Arizona School Teacher With Her Japanese Host Family After 22 Years appeared first on Good News Network.

Evolution may not be as random as previously thought

A new study challenges the long-held idea that evolution is always random‚ and it could have huge implications for solving life-changing problems. The theory of evolution by natural selection is sound and well-proven‚ but that doesn’t mean we won’t learn anything new about how life develops and changes over time. A new study suggests that evolution may not be as unpredictable as previously thought. The implications of this could open the way to new ways to tackle real-world problems including antibiotic resistance‚ disease and even climate change. The study challenges the long-held belief that evolution is an unpredictable process. According to the study‚ the evolutionary trajectory of a genome may depend on its evolutionary past‚ rather than being determined by a variety of factors and historical accidents. “The implications of this research are nothing short of revolutionary‚” Professor James McInerney from the School of Life Sciences at the University of Nottingham explained in a statement. “By proving that evolution is not as random as we previously thought‚ we have opened the door to many possibilities in synthetic biology‚ medicine and ecology.” McInerney and his colleagues analyzed the pangenome—a collection of all the DNA sequences of a given species‚ containing sequences common to all individuals—to answer a critical question: Can the evolutionary history of a genome determine its future trajectory? The team used a machine learning method known as Random Forest with a data set of 2‚500 complete genomes from a single bacterial species. To study this question‚ they spent several hundred thousand hours of computer processing. By feeding the data into a computer‚ they were able to create “gene families” from every gene in every genome. “In this way we were able to compare similar genomes‚” added Maria Rosa Domingo-Sananes from Nottingham Trent University. Once families were identified‚ it was possible to study how they were present in some genomes and absent in others. “We found that some gene families never appeared in the genome if another gene family was already present there‚ and in other cases‚ some genes were very dependent on the presence of another gene family.” Essentially‚ the study revealed an “invisible ecosystem” of genes that cooperate or compete with each other. “These interactions between genes make some aspects of evolution somewhat predictable‚ and what’s more‚ we now have the tools to make these predictions‚” Dr Domingo-Sananes added. According to Dr Alan Bevan‚ also from the School of Life Sciences at the University of Nottingham‚ “Based on this work we can start to study which genes ‘maintain’‚ for example‚ the antibiotic resistance gene. So if we are trying to eliminate antibiotic resistance‚ we We can target not only the focal gene‚ but also the genes that support it.” This approach can be used to synthesize new genetic constructs‚ “which could be used to develop new drugs or vaccines.” What we know now opens the door to many more discoveries‚” Bevan added. The implications are enormous and could lead to the creation of new genomes‚ with which scientists can design synthetic genomes and develop roadmaps for predictable manipulation of genetic material. They can also help scientists combat the rise of antibiotic resistance by helping us understand relationships between genes and create targeted treatments. The findings could also influence the design of microorganisms designed to sequester carbon or decompose pollutants‚ which could help us combat climate change. The study was published in the journal PNAS. The post Evolution may not be as random as previously thought appeared first on Anomalien.com.

FLASHBACK: The Liberal Media’s War Against the ’95 Gingrich Majority

FLASHBACK: The Liberal Media’s War Against the ’95 Gingrich Majority

This week in 1995‚ a new GOP-controlled Congress was sworn in to office‚ the first time since the early 1950s that Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate. The sweeping conservative victory in the 1994 midterms had shocked liberals‚ but within weeks the media elite were fully engaged in disparaging the new majority as mean-spirited‚ racist‚ dumb and dangerous. Journalists zeroed in on the incoming House Speaker Newt Gingrich‚ caricaturing him as a “Scrooge” and “the Gingrich who stole Christmas” (Newsweek) for suggesting modest reductions in the rate at which federal spending would grow in the future. Time’s Jack E. White approvingly relayed one Democratic Congressman’s smear that Gingrich’s plan would “actually cause black children to starve.” Writing in Rolling Stone‚ PBS’s William Greider branded Gingrich “a world-class demagogue” engaged in “rancid populism.” NBC’s Bryant Gumbel cued up House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt to expound on his description of Gingrich and his “ilk” as “trickle-down terrorists who base their agenda on division‚ exclusion and fear.” The Los Angeles Times wrote that “from the bottom of the income ladder‚ the prospect of the Republican revolution is chilling.” The hysterical media reaction to the new Congress showed the depths of the media’s hostility to Republicans (one poll showed 89% of Washington bureau chiefs had voted Democratic in the previous presidential election)‚ and how even the most ludicrous Democratic attacks would be treated as reasonable discourse by a friendly press. From the Media Research Center’s archives‚ here are some of the nastiest attacks against the new Republican Congress which took power 29 years ago this week: â–  “The U.S. House of Representatives is now to be led by a world-class demagogue‚ a talented reactionary in the vengeful tradition Gov. George Wallace and Sen. Joseph McCarthy. Like Wallace before him‚ Newt Gingrich evokes the nation’s boiling anxieties as a rancid populism of ‘us vs. them‚’ though he is too shrewd to make the racial resentments explicit....We shall soon find out if there is a kinder‚ gentler Newt lurking beneath the rock. Somehow I doubt it. His hatred seems to be from the heart.”— William Greider‚ producer of PBS Frontline shows and former Washington Post Assistant Managing Editor‚ in the December 29‚ 1994/January‚ 12‚ 1995 edition of Rolling Stone. â–  “Many interpreted the Republican sweep in the November elections as a sign that voters were mad as hell and ready for old-fashioned verities. That seemed to be the view of incoming House Speaker Newt Gingrich‚ who called for a constitutional amendment allowing voluntary school prayer in public schools. He also suggested it might be a good idea to fill orphanages with the children of welfare mothers.”— Senior Writer Paul Gray in Time’s December 26‚ 1994/January 2‚ 1995 issue. â–  “As the new Republican majority flexes its muscle....watch for welfare reform‚ with the poor‚ who need help most‚ getting less. Your local symphony orchestra and educational TV — both may become history if the GOP eliminates funding for the arts. And‚ orphanages.”— ABC’s Jack Smith‚ January 1‚ 1995 World News Sunday. â–  “From the bottom of the income ladder‚ the prospect of the Republican revolution is chilling‚ especially because the gap between the rich and the poor has already widened significantly.”— Los Angeles Times Washington reporters James Risen and Elizabeth Shogren‚ December 18‚ 1994 news story. â–  “Uncle Scrooge: ’Tis the season to bash the poor. But is Newt Gingrich’s America really that heartless?”— Cover of December 19‚ 1994 Time. â–  News anchor Morton Dean: “The incoming Speaker of the House is being called a modern-day Scrooge by a coalition of charities....”Reporter Bob Zelnick: “Some of the nation’s largest charities charged that the [Republican] plan would sharply increase hunger among the poor....”— ABC’s Good Morning America‚ December 21‚ 1994. â–  “Churches and charities who deal with hunger lashed out against the Republican Contract...comparing it to something Ebenezer Scrooge would have dreamed up.”— Correspondent Kenley Jones on NBC’s Today‚ December 21‚ 1994. â–  “Advocates worry that if Republicans make good on their threatened budget cuts‚ whatever safety net exists for America’s needy won’t exist anymore.”— CBS reporter Randall Pinkston‚ December 19‚ 1994 Evening News. â–  “Let’s face it: to most African Americans Newt Gingrich is one scary white man....[Democratic] Congressman Major Owens predicts that Gingrich’s war on the welfare state will actually cause black children to starve.”— Time national correspondent Jack E. White‚ January 16‚ 1995 edition. â–  “You called Gingrich and his ilk‚ your words‚ ‘trickle-down terrorists who base their agenda on division‚ exclusion‚ and fear.’ Do you think middle-class Americans are in need of protection from that group?”— Bryant Gumbel to House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt‚ January 4‚ 1995 Today.     â–  “My fear is that Mr. Gingrich‚ given his history‚ may increase what I see as a new mean-spiritedness in this country....I would like to think that the American people care about poor people‚ about sick people‚ about homeless people‚ and about poor children. I am shocked by the new mean-spiritedness.”— ABC News Washington reporter and weekend anchor Carole Simpson in an America Online auditorium session‚ January 5‚ 1995. â–  “From the pronunciamentos out of Washington‚ you’d think the new Congress were a slash-and-burn Khmer Rouge‚ determined to rid Phnom Penh of every member of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting‚ every painter who every got a dime out of the National Endowment for the Arts‚ every child who was ever difficult‚ and other inconvenient co-dependents who ought instead to be growing rice and eating fishpaste in the boondocks.”— CBS Sunday Morning TV critic John Leonard‚ January 8‚ 1995. â–  “So the Republicans say they are against raising the minimum wage. What did you expect? The minimum wage does nothing to help the rich....The Republicans are against welfare and food stamps. They’re against mandatory health coverage. They’re against raising the minimum wage....This is somewhere between dumb and short-sighted from an economic standpoint‚ and it’s somewhere between crass and racist from a social standpoint.”— Former NBC News President Michael Gartner in his USA Today column‚ January 10‚ 1995. Hamas using stockpile of Chinese-made weapons against Israel: IDF

Investigations carried out by Israel revealed that Hamas has been using Chinese-made assault rifles and grenade launchers in its ongoing fight with the Jewish state‚ according to the Telegraph. The report noted that the IDF had discovered stockpiles of supplies that included cartridges for M16s and telescopic sights for rifles. There were also military radios and listening devices discovered during the investigation. The development raises questions about the nature of China's involvement in the conflict in the Middle East. China has previously expressed interest in deescalating the conflict between Israel and Hamas‚ and eventually renewing the Iran nuclear deal. Now‚ Israel is trying to figure out how Chinese-made weapons made it into Hamas' hands‚ and whether Beijing was directly involved in supplying the terrorist group the military material. A source from Israeli intelligence told the Telegraph that the situation "has come as a big surprise as before the war‚ relations were very good‚ but we have found massive amounts of Chinese weaponry and the question is‚ did it come directly from China to Hamas or not?”“This is top-grade weaponry and communications technology‚ stuff that Hamas didn’t have before‚ with very sophisticated explosives which have never been found before and especially on such a large scale‚" the source continued. The development could have a large impact on the relationship between Israel and China‚ which was thriving at one point. However‚ the ties have gradually cooled since October 7‚ when Hamas carried out a surprise attack against the Jewish state‚ slaughtering 1‚200 people and abducting 240 more. Israel has been irked by China for not coming to its defense following the horrific attack. The Telegraph reported that on October 14‚ Wang Yi‚ China's Foreign Minister‚ said the Jewish state's response to Hamas' terrorist attack went "beyond the scope of self-defense."Dr. Patrick Bury — a defense expert from the University of Bath — said Iran is known to have trained members of Hamas and is likely to have played a role in getting Chinese-made weapons into their hands.“If it’s a large quantity‚ it’s most likely a state actor involved‚ and that state actor is highly likely to be Iran. It could be stuff that was purchased by Iran off China and found its way to Hamas. There are other potential actors but much less likely‚” Bury said.“China will not like the Iranians doing this with their kit. It’s not a good look if it’s a massive haul and trust will become an issue.”Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox.
