Family buries beloved dog hit by car‚ then 14 hours later‚ they see him outside the front door

Glenn Maloney faced a heart-wrenching moment that no parent ever wants to experience. He had the difficult task of telling his children that their beloved dog‚ Mugsy‚ was no longer with them. The family’s ordeal began one afternoon around 3 p.m. when Mugsy‚ a spirited 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier‚ was tragically hit by a car... ‘Brave’ to Be Afraid of Trump! The View Tries to Rescue VP Harris from Their Interview

Vice President Kamala Harris made headlines earlier this week when she appeared on ABC’s The View and admitted that she was “scared” of former President Trump and the thought of him becoming president again. That kind of attention wasn’t good‚ so the cast came to her defense on Thursday to praise how “brave” Harris was for saying she’s “scared” of Trump. They also argued that she had every reason to rightly be scared of Trump. After playing a montage of clips from right-of-center news organizations talking about Harris’s comments‚ moderator Whoopi Goldberg lashed out by suggesting that they were somehow snowflakes: You know‚ you folks are the snowflakeiest people I've ever seen. You don't know what she's scared of. You don’t know? You haven't been listening to what this man has said he's going to do on day one? How he's treated women? You don't think we're uncomfortable when somebody‚ says‚ yeah‚ I'm the guy that got rid of Roe v. Wade? What do you mean‚ what are you scared of? The montage included a soundbite of Fox &; Friends co-host Lawrence Jones asking‚ “What are they scared of? It's‚ like‚ do MAGA supporters have some type of disease or something?” “Yeah‚” bitter co-host Joy Behar responded to him. Behar tried to explain away what Harris really meant when she said she was “scared” of Trump. “And Kamala basically‚ she's not personally scared. She's scared for the country because the country will have a problem if he is in office‚ and he also will go after his enemies. Hello?” she warned while gesturing to the cast as though they’d be worth that kind of effort.     Staunchly racist and anti-Semitic co-host Sunny Hostin took a different approach. She insisted Harris was right to be in a panic over Trump and everyone should be too. “She's the second most powerful person in the world and she's telling you to be very‚ very afraid‚” she declared. Hostin also dipped into hysterics and warned that Trump was going to topple America and be its destroyer. “We've seen it happen in history. There have been great nations that no longer exist because of someone like a Donald Trump‚” she proclaimed. Touting their interview with “the second most powerful person in the world – who happens to be a woman‚” Hostin insisted it should put to rest any criticism of Harris. “A this point I hope I never hear again she is not qualified to be the president‚” she pouted‚ arguing Harris was ready for when President Biden kicked the can. “Because she had the temperament‚ she had the knowledge‚ she had the demeanor‚ she had it all! And I think she proved to the world‚ in my opinion‚ she is ready to be that heartbeat away from Joe Biden‚” she argued. Hypocrisy was on full display with co-host Sara Haines‚ who praised Harris’s warnings and fear of Trump: I think that was also her strongest point and that's why it's funny that everyone in the conservative media ran with it‚ because you want straight-talking politicians. It's what resonates with me the most and in that moment you could tell she heard the question and was like‚ uh. Because either he is an existential threat to democracy which is scary or he’s not. But during their interview‚ Haines pressed Harris for the Biden campaign to ditch the doom and gloom predictions by citing their lack of traction with voters. “Attacks on Trump are not moving the needle. In fact‚ 91 indictments are not moving the needle. Voters want to hear about issues affecting their lives like the economy and the border‚” she said at the time. As they were nearing the end of the segment‚ Goldberg took another crack at trying to spin Harris’s fear as a strength. “There's nothing wrong with being afraid. It's what makes you get up and make a change. So‚ don't think that because somebody says they're afraid‚ it's a bad thing. There's nothing shameful about being afraid‚” she asserted. “I think it is kind of brave to say you're afraid.” The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s The View January 18‚ 2024 11:03:22 a.m. Eastern (…) LAWRENCE JONES (Fox &; Friends): The question is what are they scared of? It's‚ like‚ do MAGA supporters have some type of disease or something? [Cuts back to live] JOY BEHAR (answering Jones): Yeah. [Laughter] WHOOPI GOLDBERG: You know‚ you folks are the snowflakeiest people I've ever seen. You’re – I’ll just pose – you know it’s too – I can't mess up now. [Laughter] BEHAR: What you just said‚ the guy himself has said I'm going to be a dictator on day one‚ I’m going to roll back Roe v. Wade – one of the few times he actually told the truth – and that is what you should be scared of. And Kamala basically‚ she's not personally scared. She's scared for the country because the country will have a problem if he is in office and he also will go after his enemies. Hello? [Gestures to The View cast] SARA HAINES: I think Alyssa is at risk the most. SUNNY HOSTIN: I think that’s what I took away from it. You know. I mean‚ yeah. She's the second most powerful person in the world and she's telling you to be very‚ very afraid. She's explaining to you that –Our democracy really is an experiment. We're a very young country and that experiment can fail in the hands of a dictator. We've seen it happen in history. There have been great nations that no longer exist because of someone like a Donald Trump And so‚ I want the second most powerful person in the world – who happens to be a woman – tell me‚ be very‚ very afraid. And what I liked about the interview yesterday is that she – at this point I hope I never hear again she is not qualified to be the president. BEHAR: That's right. HOSTIN: Because she had the temperament‚ she had the knowledge‚ she had the demeanor‚ she had it all! And I think she proved to the world‚ in my opinion‚ she is ready to be that heartbeat away from Joe Biden. (…) 11:06:54 a.m. Eastern HAINES: I think that was also her strongest point and that's why it's funny that everyone in the conservative media ran with it‚ because you want straight talking politicians. It's what resonates with me the most and in that moment you could tell she heard the question and was like‚ uh. Because either he is an existential threat to democracy which is scary or he’s not. BEHAR: Which he is. HAINES: But you can't have it both ways. When people were calling her out for being scared and you deciphered personally scared versus as an administration. If it's as scary as you're telling everybody it is‚ then you should also be saying it's scary but what I'm going to do is we're going to run harder‚ we’re going to go faster. And that's kind of what she did with that moment. On the heels of all the town halls and debates‚ I'm so tired of the canned alliteration like “from Bangkok to Baltimore‚ we got” – And so that was a moment where I felt she was so present that it was‚ like‚ real. (…) 11:09:23 a.m. Eastern GOLDBERG: The thing I want to say about this: There's nothing wrong with being afraid. It's what makes you get up and make a change. So‚ don't think that because somebody says they're afraid‚ it's a bad thing. [Applause ] There's nothing shameful about being afraid. HOSTIN: It’s brave to say that you’re afraid. GOLDBERG: I think it is kind of brave to say you're afraid.

Reid Demands Court Expansion‚ Baselessly Suggests It Will Overturn Desegregation

MSNBC’s Joy Reid welcomed The Nation’s justice correspondent and whatever the opposite of a voice of reason is Elie Mystal on to her Wednesday program for a uncalm and irrational discussion about how the Supreme Court’s skepticism towards the executive branch’s regulatory authority could lead to it reversing Brown v. Board of Education. According to Mystal‚ those who favor giving broad lawmaking power to nameless experts had a rough day before the Court and conservatives are turning to the Court because they keep losing elections which led Reid to project her desire that the Court align with her predetermined outcomes onto the Court’s conservatives: This is the reason that the idea of expanding the Court is starting to catch on even with people who originally opposed it because these guys have a political agenda and ending regulation other than the regulation they impose themselves‚ ending women's rights‚ ending women's rights to an abortion‚ ending civil rights‚ just basically rolling back the entire 20th century Supreme Court jurisprudence‚ they’re doing it so systematically that they’re not stoppable if you don’t expand the Court.     Because nothing says democracy like rule by anonymous technocrats. Reid and Mystal claim that Republicans are a pose to democracy and everything else that is good and decent‚ but as soon the Court signals that the Environmental Protection Agency may not be all powerful they go full anti-intuitionalist. It is also simply a fact that the Court has not overturned civil rights or women’s rights‚ but that didn’t stop Mystal from claiming‚ “At this point the difference between a progressive justice and a liberal justice versus conservative or Republican justice is that the liberals believe in facts and the conservatives believe in vibes and they are reviving out right now. They are winning on the vibes and remaking the law back in their image of the 1950s and the 1850s.” Keeping the unhinged hysteria going‚ Reid added‚ “Yeah‚ how long before they get to Brown v. Board or the case where it said‚ you know‚ segregation schools can't get tax cuts because that was what they were—” The idea that the Court would overturn Brown is ludicrous to anyone who has spent five seconds talking to an actual conservative‚ but Mystal still engaged in the delusion that it might happen‚ “It’s on Clarence Thomas's list. As long as you leave Ginni alone‚ Clarence Thomas is interested in getting rid of that case. Reid retorted‚ “Yeah‚ he not going to mess with interracial marriage‚ he’s going to keep that one because that’s his own family.” Or maybe because‚ despite what MSNBC tells you‚ conservative justices actually do care about the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. They just don’t think it is a catch all term for “whatever Joy Reid wants.” Here is a transcript for the January 17 show: MSNBC The ReidOut 1/17/2024 7:51 PM ET JOY REID: This is the reason that the idea of expanding the Court is starting to catch on even with people who originally opposed it because these guys have a political agenda and ending regulation other than the regulation they impose themselves‚ ending women's rights‚ ending women's rights to an abortion‚ ending civil rights‚ just basically rolling back the entire 20th century Supreme Court jurisprudence‚ they’re doing it so systematically that they’re not stoppable if you don’t expand the Court. ELIE MYSTAL: At this point the difference between a progressive justice and a liberal justice versus conservative or Republican justice is that the liberals believe in facts and the conservatives believe in vibes and they are reviving out right now.  They are winning on the vibes and remaking the law back in their image of the 1950s and the 1850s.  REID: Yeah‚ how long before they get to Brown v. Board or the case where it said‚ you know‚ segregation schools can't get tax cuts because that was what they were-- MYSTAL: It’s on Clarence Thomas's list. As long as you leave Ginni alone‚ Clarence Thomas is interested in getting rid of that case. MRC President Brent Bozell Slams ‘Fascist Tactics’ Exposed by MRC Report

MRC President and Founder Brent Bozell highlighted a blistering exposé of the disturbing collusion between the federal government and private organizations to poison the minds of future generations against conservatives.  In a Jan. 18 interview with WMAL radio host Larry O’Connor‚ Bozell discussed a horrifying report by MRC Legal Associate Tim Kilcullen on this collusion stemming from the Department of Homeland Security’s Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention program. “The things we are uncovering‚ folks‚ it is scary‚ scary stuff‚” Bozell said. The federal government is “using fascist tactics against its own people‚ funded by its own people‚” he added. “You don’t have a democracy when you’ve got the State Department‚ as we uncovered before‚ working with Germany to design a program and teach educators how to teach children all about censoring conservatives‚” said Bozell before continuing: “You don’t have democracy when you have the Department of Homeland Security giving funds to [University of Dayton]-rewarding it for a program that does things among other things equating the Republican Party‚ MAGA… The Heritage Foundation and others as the building blocks to militant fascism in America.”  Bozell went on to elaborate that the “Department of Homeland Security is back at it again. This time with a three-phase program‚” before spelling out the new revelations in detail.  Specifically‚ the MRC report‚ released on Jan. 17‚ revealed that the DHS awarded $700‚000 in grant money to the University of Rhode Island’s Media Education Lab (the “Rhode Island Lab”) to promote leftist propaganda. Using the grant‚ the university then trained teachers to use censorship tools to silence right-leaning political dissent in their classrooms. In addition‚ the grant was engineered to pay activists to write blog content promoting left-wing propaganda. It even paid students up to $1‚000 to make social media posts promoting so-called “media literacy.”  Bozell slammed those who refer to taxpayer-funded leftist indoctrination as “media literacy‚” pointing out that this term serves to equate leftist propaganda with the truth. Bozell added that “Media literacy means-if you challenge climate change‚ you are illiterate.”  O’Connor was fired up after hearing about this authoritarian and biased abuse of federal tax dollars. “This is what the fascists do‚” O’Connor said‚ before adding: “It’s bad enough that the Biden administration is using federal tax dollars to fund propaganda efforts to defeat their political opponents and prop up their own political ideas—that would be bad enough. But they also go a step further‚ this is from the Homeland Security Department‚ so they’re calling their political opponents terrorists‚ literally because of how they vote.”  O’Connor thanked Bozell and the Media Research Center: “We would not have learned of this had you and your incredible team at Media Research Center not asked the questions‚ FOIA’ed the documents and put two and two together.”  MRC Free Speech America Assistant Editor Gabriela Pariseau contributed to this report. Robert Kraft and the Patriots just surrendered to the DEI mafia

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has been conquered. The Defending Elite Ignorance mafia — DEI — forced the billionaire to hire a football coach with beliefs that contradict his own. That’s the point of diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion. It’s a system designed to root out the final remnants of Christian values from America’s workforce. It’s a system designed specifically to make white men bow to Marxist ideology in the name of progress. Kraft took a knee Wednesday. Kraft and the New England Patriots introduced their replacement for legendary coach Bill Belichick. The organization elevated linebackers coach Jerod Mayo‚ a former Patriots first-round draft pick‚ to the job. In today’s world‚ it’s a shining achievement for an old‚ powerful white man. The 82-year-old entrepreneur handed his most prized possession over to a 37-year-old black man‚ proving (for the moment) that Robert Kraft isn’t racist. I sincerely hope Mayo is successful. But I don’t blame anyone for having doubts. Mayo and his boss see the world quite differently‚ which is usually a bad sign for long-term success. High-profile football coaches are proudly stating that they see race because identifying racism is a life purpose. This is insanity. Kraft is a proponent of a color-blind approach to promoting fairness and a meritocratic work environment. His new coach isn’t. Wednesday‚ the media‚ of course‚ leaned into the alleged “history” of Mayo being the first black head coach of the New England Patriots. A reporter asked Kraft what it meant to him to hire a black coach. Here’s what he said: Let me say this to you: I’m really color-blind in terms of I know what I feel like on Sunday when we lose‚ and I can just tell you that after my family‚ my passion is with the New England Patriots‚ and there’s something else very close second‚ but winning at the Patriots is my passion. I want to get the best people I can get. I chose the best head coach for this organization. He happens to be a man of color. But I chose him because I believe he’s best to do the job. Mayo followed Kraft and offered a very different answer: I appreciate [Robert Kraft] and the organization selecting me to be a black head coach. I would say that what [Kraft] just talked about‚ that was in the locker room. You want your locker room to be pretty diverse‚ and you want the world to look like that. What I will say‚ though‚ is I do see color because I believe if you don’t see color‚ you can’t see racism. Kraft did not hire Mayo to be “a black head coach.” Kraft hired him to be the coach of the Patriots and to build a winning culture. The owner of the Patriots believes in a color-blind approach. He hired a coach who thinks part of his life purpose is to see racism. It’s not a mature‚ healthy life purpose. You prioritize seeing color so you can justify and implement discrimination. This is the point of identity politics. It’s a justification for discrimination. The owner of the Patriots promotes color-blindness and meritocracy. The head coach doesn’t. The organization’s Twitter feed promoted Mayo’s worldview and ignored Kraft’s. The owner and the head coach are at odds on day one. Kraft won’t dare correct Mayo. Kraft has been bullied into believing his worldview doesn’t need to be reflected in the leaders he chooses to run his football team. Who owns and operates a business and doesn’t want leadership that reflects his or her values and beliefs? A coward. No one in the media will get a legitimate opportunity to challenge Mayo’s warped approach to race. Most in the media are too afraid‚ or they share Mayo’s Marxist-influenced point of view. For 100 years‚ black people begged white Americans to be color-blind. We all knew that bigots prioritized seeing race so that they knew which groups to discriminate against. Now‚ high-profile football coaches are proudly stating they see race because identifying racism is a life purpose. This is insanity. Kraft is ashamed of his beliefs. He can’t muster the courage to stand on the values that allowed America to overcome slavery‚ Jim Crow‚ segregation‚ and blatant unfairness. He’s been conquered.

US has ‘moral and legal obligation’ to pay $14 trillion in reparations‚ claims ‘Squad’ member Jamaal Bowman

United States Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) recently sponsored a bill that claims the country has a “moral and legal obligation” to dish out $14 trillion in reparations‚ Fox News Digital reported.Bowman‚ a Democratic “Squad” member‚ backed H.R. 414‚ which seeks to provide trillions of dollars in reparations “for the enslavement of Africans and its lasting harm on the lives of millions of Black people in the United States.”“Whereas Black people are‚ and have always been‚ human beings‚ yet the Federal Government has historically failed to recognize our dignity and humanity‚” the bill read. “The Federal Government must compensate descendants of enslaved Black people and people of African descent.”The legislation‚ sponsored by Bowman and thirteen other Democratic lawmakers‚ claimed that the U.S. government had implemented “policies that led to the economic‚ political‚ and social erosion of Black communities” and “fail[ed] to keep Black people safe from or actively sanctioning White domestic terrorism and failing to prosecute it when it occurred.” It accused the federal government of being directly responsible for imposing segregation‚ which led to “harmful health outcomes and environmental racism‚” “ongoing harms of racialized mass incarceration and family separation‚” and “banking‚ consumer‚ housing‚ health‚ education‚ and employment discrimination.”“Whereas reparations must be administered by the Federal Government to descendants of enslaved Black people and people of African descent for sanctioning the kidnapping and trafficking of human beings‚ creating and maintaining a violent racial hierarchy‚ embedding slavery and other methods of economic exploitation into the fabric of society‚ and emboldening White supremacy with legal‚ social‚ and economic tools of control‚” the bill continued. It further stated that the U.S. benefited from slave labor between 1619 and 1865 that is “valued at $97‚000‚000‚000‚000 today.”Supporters of the legislation‚ introduced in 2023‚ claimed it would “eliminate the racial wealth gap that currently exists between Black and White Americans.”Bowman argued that the Democrats’ reparations plan does not need to be paid in one lump sum but can be disbursed over decades.“Who says the $14 trillion needs to be paid out in one shot?” Bowman asked. “It might be possible for it to be paid out over five or 10 or 20 years. You could take that $333‚000 and break it up into monthly checks over X amount of time. There are creative ways to do the right thing and do what needs to be done.”He claimed that the government could distribute reparations similarly to the way it provided financial assistance during the COVID lockdowns."When COVID was destroying us‚ we invested in the American people in a way that kept the economy afloat‚" Bowman stated. "The government can invest the same way in reparations without raising taxes on anyone.""Where did the money come from?" Bowman questioned. "We spent it into existence."Bowman‚ who was recently criticized after he claimed he accidentally pulled the fire alarm in a House office building in October‚ said he also believes that incarcerated individuals “should be able to vote.”“And I definitely think that when they come out‚ they should automatically be enfranchised‚” he added.Like Blaze News? Journalist attending Davos summit says THESE are his biggest takeaways

Our overlords are at their annual Davos meeting planning our future together‚ and “misinformation” has consistently been brought up as their greatest concern. Glenn Beck is well aware this focus on misinformation will become a focus on censoring voices like his. “They’re trying to get all the global leaders to come together on this and make sure that voices‚ quite honestly‚ like mine and TheBlaze and people like Ezra Levant from Rebel News up in Canada‚ are silenced‚” Glenn explains. Levant is currently on the ground at the World Economic Forum in Davos‚ and he’s already pulled some disturbing takeaways. There’s a small private airfield close to the elites' annual meeting‚ where 150 private jets per day land — just for Davos. “They say that one week basically pays for the entire year‚” Levant tells Beck‚ noting that they’re doing this despite being the ones “telling us to reduce our carbon footprint” and “not to fly as much.” Levant was able to question meeting-goers about their private jets‚ like John Kerry and the president of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation — who did not have any answers. “It’s a crazy place where the masters of the universe get together to make the rules for the rest of us‚ and there’s only about half a dozen citizens and journalists here‚” Levant says. The elites claim their theme this year is “rebuilding trust‚” since they know they’ve “shattered trust with ordinary people over the last few years.” “But at the same time‚” Levant continues‚ “they believe in censorship.” The two emphases Levant has gathered from his time at Davos are censorship of “misinformation” and artificial intelligence. “You combine those two things‚ and I tell you‚ you’re in a brave new world right there‚” he warns. KJP fumbles hard when Fox News reporter confronts — and then fact-checks — her false narrative about recent migrant deaths

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stuck to the narrative — not the facts — the Biden administration parroted after three migrants drowned last Friday while attempting to cross the Rio Grande. After the tragedy‚ the Biden administration rushed to blame Texas for the incident. Homeland Security‚ for example‚ accused Texas National Guard soldiers of having "physically barred" Border Patrol agents from responding to migrants in distress. The White House‚ on the other hand‚ suggested the migrants could have been saved had Texas soldiers not "blocked U.S. Border Patrol from attempting to provide emergency assistance."But the Justice Department admitted in a filing to the Supreme Court on Monday that the migrants — two children and an adult woman — had already drowned when Mexican officials alerted Border Patrol agents of the tragic deaths. In fact‚ they had been dead for at least one hour.On Wednesday‚ Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich confronted Jean-Pierre over the White House's dishonest narrative. She asked‚ "Will the administration amend its separate statement that implied that Texas officials were responsible for the deaths of those three migrants when‚ in fact‚ they had nothing to do with it?""They had already been dead for an hour by the time Mexico told anyone in the U.S. about it‚ and the administration admitted as much in their court filing‚" Heinrich noted. "But the statement from the White House implies that Texas was responsible‚ and a number of outlets were forced to issue corrections and editor's notes because of that White House statement."The falsehood exposed‚ Jean-Pierre responded by urging Heinrich to be "sensitive" because of the "devastating situation." But then she refused to acknowledge the truth after repeatedly stumbling over her thoughts."Our statement is consistent with DOJ’s filing. As the DOJ filing said‚ there was an ongoing emergency situation that Border Patrol was blocked from accessing. There were other migrants in the water as well‚" she responded."That was separate‚ though. The ongoing emergency situation was separate‚" Heinrich fact-checked. — (@) The Fox News reporter then read Jean-Pierre the White House statement — which said that "Texas officials blocked U.S. Border Patrol from attempting to provide emergency assistance" — but the press secretary simply restated her earlier point."There were other migrants in the water as well‚" she said."Then why wasn't that included in the statement?" Heinrich shot back. And when Heinrich asked if the statement was referring to those "other migrants" — which it clearly was not because it was released in direct response to the drownings — Jean-Pierre shut down questioning and referred additional questions to the DOJ. Father accused of fleeing single-vehicle crash that killed teen daughter‚ injured family: 'She had a heart of gold'

Bodycam video shows the moment an Oklahoma father was arrested by police after he reportedly fled the single-vehicle crash that killed his teen daughter and injured other family members. The Bixby Police Department responded to a car crash around 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 11‚ KJRH-TV reported. Officers found 16-year-old Shelby Binney near the site of the car accident – she had reportedly been thrown from the vehicle during the rollover car crash. Binney was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead. Investigators said Shelby was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the car. Her mother and two elementary school-age siblings were also transported to the hospital with injuries suffered from the deadly car accident. Missing from the car crash site was the father of the family – Elliot Binney. The man is accused of fleeing the car crash that killed his teenage daughter. An anonymous witness told KJRH-TV that he ran to the crash site and found a man wandering around the wrecked SUV. The witness alleged that he attempted to get the "disoriented" man to sit down‚ but he ran off."The driver‚ Elliott Binney‚ her father‚ at some point left the scene‚ he walked to a family-owned business and retrieved a vehicle‚" said Bixby Police Chief Todd Blish‚ according to KOKI-TV.Police were able to track the vehicle electronically.Officers tracked down Elliot down in Checotah – roughly an hour away from the fatal car crash. The Checotah Police Department released bodycam footage of officers arresting Binney while he was behind the wheel of a gray pickup truck. Binney told police officers that the accident was caused by him losing control of the car after hitting an oil spot on the road during the rainy night‚ according to the arrest report. A witness to the car crash estimated that Binney's vehicle was traveling around 70 mph before the crash‚ according to the police report. Binney reportedly passed multiple cars in a no-passing zone shortly before the deadly wreck. The New York Post reported‚ "When officers went through Binney’s car‚ they found vodka and several pill bottles with the labels torn off in the front seat‚ according to the footage."Binney allegedly admitted to officers that he had bought the vodka and "took a gulp" of it while driving his family home. Binney’s wife reportedly told police that she and her husband were arguing before the deadly car accident. The father suffered only minor injuries from the crash that killed his daughter. In his mug shot‚ Binney is seen with two black eyes. Denver hospital nears crisis after illegal immigrants‚ homeless‚ others racked up $136M in unpaid care in 2023 alone

Denver Health‚ the largest "safety net" hospital in Colorado‚ is nearing a crisis after rising numbers of illegal immigrants and homeless people are racking up hefty health care bills that they have little or no ability to pay.Since President Joe Biden took office and the southern border has been overrun with immigrants from all over the world‚ the cost of unpaid care at Denver Health has risen dramatically. In 2020‚ the hospital had about $60 million in unpaid care. By 2022‚ that number more than doubled to $125 million and then jumped another $11 million last year‚ bringing the total amount of unpaid care at Denver Health in 2023 to a whopping $136 million. Those numbers coincide with the significant rise in illegal immigrants entering the city in the last few years. According to Dr. Steven Federico‚ the chief government and community affairs officer for Denver Health‚ the hospital treated 8‚000 new patients from South and Central America in the last year‚ and those patients alone accounted for 20‚000 hospital visits."It’s not surprising when they get to Denver that there’s severe and acute health care needs‚" Federico said. Some of those "severe and acute health care needs" included dental emergencies‚ mental health counseling‚ and childbirth‚ Denver Health CEO Donna Lynne told the Denver City Council’s finance and government committee earlier this month. "While I have tremendous compassion for what’s going on‚ it’s heartbreaking‚ it’s going to break Denver Health‚" she explained. The hospital has contacted FEMA for more federal assistance with the cost of caring for illegal immigrants.Colorado likewise offers OmniSalud‚ a state-funded program that directs "undocumented Coloradans and DACA recipients" to individual health insurance plans that are often provided by an employer. "This plan is designed to improve access‚ affordability‚ and racial health equity for consumers purchasing health insurance in individual and small-group markets‚" the website says (emphasis not added). While many are pointing to illegal immigrants as the main cause of the hospital's shortfall‚ other uninsured patients have contributed to the problem as well. Federico also mentioned the growing population of "unhoused" persons‚ who often need mental health care and/or addiction treatment. Though $136 million sounds like an insurmountable deficit‚ Denver Health actually fell only $2 million short of breaking even in 2023. However‚ a $5 million donation from the state and additional $10 million from Kaiser Permanente — "one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plans‚" according to its website — helped defray the costs of unpaid care. Such sizeable donations were likely a one-time deal‚ and even with the $30 million Denver Health receives from the city every year‚ hospital officials have scrambled to cut costs to keep it afloat going forward. Some of those cost-cutting measures included reducing raises for staff‚ delaying renovations to older areas of the facility‚ and closing 15 beds normally reserved for those needing psychiatric or addiction treatment."What I think is not being said is that Denver Health is at a critical‚ critical point‚ and that we need to take this up in 2024‚" Lynne pleaded with the city council committee. "Because our costs exceed our revenues‚ we are turning down patients every day‚ particularly in the area of mental health and substance abuse.""There’s going to be a point where the numbers make this very‚ very hard‚" added Dr. Taylor McCormick‚ associate director of Pediatrics Emergency Medicine at Denver Health. "We’re already past the breaking point‚ to a certain extent."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
