DEMOCRAT & CONVICTED CHILD MOLESTER RUNNING FOR MAYOR IN RI
Michael English, a Democrat and a CONVICTED child molester, is currently running for mayor in Providence, Rhode Island.
In 1998, English pleaded no contest to sexually molesting a 13-year-old girl. He served ONLY 15 months of a 20-YEAR sentence before being released. He then spent an additional 19 months in prison in 2009 after violating a no-contact order with the victim.
English does not appear on the RI sex offender registry due to his registry expiring after only 10 years.
English was 26 years old when he molested a 13-year-old girl.
He claimed to have not known her age.
But, after he was released from prison (with a highly reduced sentence due to good behavior), he violated a no-contact order and drove to the girl's house to try to meet her again!
The Providence Journal reported:
English – who is 54 years old – briefly mentioned in a letter announcing his campaign that he had previously been incarcerated:
“I made immature decisions that led to my arrest and a period of incarceration coupled with I dropped out of Hope High School in 1990 and, simply put, I failed to live up to my potential.”
The immature decisions seemingly refer to the then-26-year-old English’s relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
English was convicted of child molestation in 1998 and initially served 15 months in prison. A decade after his release, he served another 19 months when he was charged with violating a no-contact order relating to the victim.
English does not appear on the Rhode Island Sex Offender Registry Database, nor are the details of his case readily available to the public. The case was never expunged, but it was removed from public view under a court statute designed to protect the identities of child victims.
Following requests to the court, The Providence Journal was granted partial access to the files and spoke to English directly about his case and the implications of someone with his history running for public office.
The state Attorney General's Office alleged that English engaged in sexual acts with the victim between January and March of 1997, according to the grand jury’s indictment. He was living in North Providence at the time, and met the girl at various locations in Cumberland, North Smithfield and Lincoln, including at the Lincoln Mall, according to the Attorney General's Office at the time.
In March 1998, he pleaded no contest to four counts of first-degree child molestation, second-degree child molestation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. English told The Providence Journal that he was unaware of the girl’s age at the time.
Although the Attorney General's Office recommended a 40-year sentence, with seven years to serve, Superior Court Judge Ronald Gagnon issued English a 20-year sentence, with 18 and ½ years suspended, also ordering English to register as a sex offender. A suspended sentence reduces prison time if the convicted individual fulfills certain requirements. In this case, the judge suspended more than 90% of English's sentence.
English was incarcerated at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston from September 1998, until his release in February 2000. Thirty-eight days were taken off his sentence for “good time,” which is when a sentence is reduced for good behavior.
In September 2009, the victim filed a police report stating that English had driven to her house, tried to speak with her and suggested they get coffee. English told The Providence Journal that he happened to live across the street from her at the time.
He was found guilty of violating the no contact order and sentenced to five years. English was incarcerated at the ACI from December 2009 to September 2011, after which he was under house arrest for two months, and "good time" was applied to the remainder of his sentence.
But, don't worry...
Michael English promises his sick, perverted acts are a thing of the past.
He thinks it would be unfair and illegal to disqualify him from the mayoral race for something as petty as child molestation!
Instead, we should focus on his achievements, like how he got a GE in prison and went to Seminary school.
English said that if people think his criminal history should be a disqualifying factor in running for public office, “They’d be wrong, legally. They also should calculate what did I do from then."
He listed his efforts completing a General Educational Development course while in prison, receiving a paralegal certification, later pursuing ministry studies and eventually graduating with bachelor's and master’s degrees in international business. English also described raising two children and having grown up since he was released.
According to his campaign website, English received a bachelor's, master's and doctorate of arts in ministry from United Graduate College and Seminary from 2004 to 2008. His website says he then received a bachelor of arts in international business from Ashford University in 2017, and then a master of business administration from the same school in 2019.
“If I haven’t showed how to go from nothing to something again, then no one will,” he said.
Congrats on reforming and turning your life around, I guess.
I hope you've repented.
But, you still shouldn't get to hold elected office if you've ever committed a sexual crime, especially against a child!
Exactly this:
There’s just certain crimes where people shouldn’t be able to come back and live a “normal life” in a civilized society
Child molestation is one of those crimes pic.twitter.com/LaN5YMhi4N

What do you think?
Would you support a convicted child molester as your mayor?
