‘A baby is like a sunlamp’: Why having babies might cure depression

Feminism has undoubtedly given way to a generation of women who view giving birth as a detriment to their careers and freedom. Dr. Catherine Pakaluk, professor of social research and economic thought, author of “Hannah’s Children: The Women Quietly Defying the Birth Dearth,” and mother of eight children, and Allie Beth Stuckey of “Relatable,” believe those women may be making a mistake, especially regarding their mental health. “Do you think that childlessness is contributing to the explosion of dependance on SSRIs, especially among women? Anxiety, depression, deaths of despair. I mean, it’s women over 40 that really are taking, it seems, the lion’s share of these antidepressant, anti-anxiety medications,” Stuckey asks Pakaluk. “I’m not an expert on the connection between those two things, but it came out of my conversations with so many people that, I think the language a lot of people used, was sort of like ‘a baby is like a sunlamp,’” Pakaluk responds. And the women who don’t have children end up attempting to replace their desire to nurture with less fulfilling alternatives. “They mother through politics, and sort of social justice causes, and to borrow a phrase, kind of toxic empathy,” Pakaluk says. “We are meant to have these incredible empathy muscles. I mean, this is part of being a great mom.” “Misplaced mothering absolutely manifests itself in a lot of women who would probably call themselves liberal women, thinking that they are defending the least of these, or the most vulnerable, because they believe that whatever victim, or proclaimed victim that the media hoists up, needs their defense, needs their nurturing,” Stuckey agrees. Pakaluk notes that these things are not as “naturally fulfilling” to women, “which leads us back to where you started this question of ‘is this fueling our anxiety, our depression.’” “These are really big questions, but I think they’re questions we’re not asking to our peril. They’re also very awkward questions, I would say, for a country that has been committed to abortion rights,” she adds. 2 golfers sneak into PGA Tour event after clerical error allows them to skip prequalification

Two golfers will play in a PGA Tour event after they were accidentally allowed to compete in a prequalifying round for the tournament. The PGA Tour made a wild error that may actually result in more viewership for the inaugural Black Desert Championship this weekend. Typically, tour events have qualification rounds known as a Monday qualifier tournament. During this round, players who are not already qualified for the event compete in a one-round competition for a limited number of spots. However, even that has a qualifying portion. If a golfer is a member of the PGA, PGA Tour Champions (tour for age 50+), or the Korn Ferry Tour (developmental tour), they are exempt from the Monday qualifying event. Players who are not exempt must play in a prequalifying event to earn a spot in the Monday qualifier. It's a complicated process, but there has seemingly never been an issue with it, until now.'It was a clerical error by our tournament director.'How did it happen?Outlet Monday Q uncovered that four players, who were not exempt, were able to skip the prequalifying event and successfully enroll in the Monday qualifier for the Black Desert Championship. Golfers R.J. Manke, Chris Korte, John Sands, and Riley Lewis were all accidentally listed in the Monday qualifier field."It was a clerical error by our tournament director," the Utah PGA told the outlet. "It is our first PGA Tour Monday, and he just made an error. He has done hundreds of tournaments without an issue. He just missed this one."Some players were outraged when they found out the other golfers were able to skip a total of three prequalifiers for the upcoming tournament, and at least one contacted the tour.Korte, who skipped the prequalifying rounds, also called the tour to confirm his exemption was accurate. He told Monday Q that even though he signed up for the prequalifying rounds, he was reimbursed for those, remained exempt, and was in the Monday qualifier. This mass of confusion left the PGA Tour in a tough spot, but after discussions with its legal team, the organization eventually decided to refund the entry fee for the four players and remove them from the Monday qualifier. Three players took it on the chin, while the fourth allegedly called the PGA Tour and asked to be reimbursed for his travel expenses. As a result, the PGA then reversed course and decided to let the golfers play on in the qualifier.According to Korte, the phone calls he received about being booted from the qualifier and being put back in came within 30 minutes of each other. How did they do?The Monday qualifier went ahead as scheduled with the four asterisked golfers. Amazingly, Korte and Sand both shot 64s and finished at -8, earning spots in the Black Desert Championship. According to Golf.com, two other golfers who qualified in the traditional sense also moved on to the big tournament. Not only will all eyes be on the two luck-stricken golfers when the tournament starts on Thursday, but there is now an embedded rivalry between the pair of traditional qualifiers and the accidental qualifiers.Korte is scheduled to tee off at 11:19 a.m. ET on Thursday, while Sand's tee time is 11:35 a.m. ET. BREAKING: Mayorkas says that FEMA has investigated itself and found it has done nothing wrong

WASHINGTON, DC—In a development sure to restore America’s unwavering confidence in government self-oversight, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas triumphantly announced today that FEMA has completed a thorough internal investigation into FEMA’s own operations and found it has done nothing wrong. Speaking from behind a podium, Mayorkas assured the public that the Federal Emergency Management Agency had put its most capable staffers on the case to scrutinize its recent hurricane response efforts, infrastructure failures, and, of course, its cozy spending habits. After what he described as “an intense week of self-reflection,” FEMA emerged not only spotless but, according to the report, heroically flawless. “The agency investigated itself, top to bottom,” said Mayorkas. “It asked the tough questions: Did we overspend? Did we neglect disaster victims? Did we misallocate resources? And after careful deliberation, FEMA bravely concluded that FEMA is perfect. In fact, FEMA has declared itself a ‘National Treasure.’” According to the rigorously impartial report authored by FEMA employees (who definitely had no conflict of interest whatsoever), the agency has actually exceeded expectations in every conceivable area, even in cases where expectations were so low they were buried under the rubble of disaster zones. The self-congratulatory review boasts of FEMA’s “innovative approach to cutting-edge disaster non-response,” where millions of victims have been able to experience “real-time government inaction,” thus encouraging them to rely on their own resilience and community spirit. In the report’s most shocking revelation, FEMA even praised itself for its fiscal management, citing a bold initiative to purchase hundreds of luxury air-conditioned tents for staff during disasters—a move that FEMA says provides “critical comfort in moments of personal hardship.” “We’ve saved millions by cutting unnecessary expenses,” said the report, neglecting to specify what exactly those unnecessary expenses were—rumor has it, possibly sandbags and medical supplies. Mayorkas beamed while delivering the news, his face a mask of bureaucratic pride as he brushed off any suggestion that this was, you know, an example of the fox guarding the henhouse. “We are thrilled to announce that FEMA has acted with absolute integrity in the process of evaluating its own integrity,” he said, with a straight face. “This level of transparency should make all Americans sleep easier at night… provided they still have homes after the latest disaster.” When asked about ongoing complaints from hurricane victims who haven’t received aid or assistance, Mayorkas suggested they should be patient, adding that “FEMA’s report doesn’t mention them, so they must not exist.” Political fallout? Not surprisingly, FEMA’s self-exoneration has been met with eye rolls from those pesky citizens who expected their government to hold itself accountable. “The only disaster FEMA has been good at responding to is a PR disaster,” said one particularly cynical local from Louisiana, still waiting on relief from Hurricane Ida. “I should’ve known—self-investigation is the new disaster recovery.” Meanwhile, FEMA Director Deidre McDisaster (a recent appointee and not-at-all a political crony) took a victory lap, declaring the agency “the gold standard of self-governance.” She also revealed that in light of this new report, FEMA would be redirecting funds away from disaster recovery efforts to focus on something it’s truly passionate about: funding future self-investigations. “The next time FEMA needs to investigate itself, we’ll be ready,” McDisaster assured. “And we’re confident that once again, we’ll be found completely innocent.” The post BREAKING: Mayorkas says that FEMA has investigated itself and found it has done nothing wrong appeared first on Genesius Times.
