I froze. It was when the thing started to get off the bed towards me that I discovered my legs again and ran.Years later my nan took me and a friend to my uncle's house to dog sit while he was away. A hiker in the Oregon Cascades is stalked and harassed for 15 days by‚ what seemed to be‚ a Bigfoot. After the ordeal‚ the witness still doesn't know what this massive creature was.I received the following account:"This incident occurred in August 2009. I was hiking alone in the Cascades in Oregon. I was in a more remote area of the range along Gordan Peak Trail. On the 6th or 7th day on the trail‚ the hair on the back of my neck started standing up. I chalked it up to being a mountain lion in the area. All my food was gone. I decided to keep pushing‚ I had 4 days left till the end of the trail. I'm familiar with what I can and can't eat in the area and I could always fish for food. The same nightly activities occurred and on the 13th night‚ something started throwing rocks at my tent. For some reason I lost it‚ I screamed into the darkness for whatever it was to leave me alone. Hoping it was just some person fucking with me and maybe they'd scream out for it to leave me alone. Instead‚ it grew quiet for the first time in nights. Nothing could be heard. Then a scream louder and more vicious than any other night cut through the night. Then nothing‚ complete and utter silence again. Despite it being quiet I wasn't able to sleep that night‚ I just waited.The next day I continued my hike‚ dead tired‚ just wanting to get out. The hair on the back of my neck still standing‚ and the forest was still quiet‚ I felt like I was being hunted. Towards the end of the day‚ I sat down to rest before pushing a few more miles when I saw it. Something tall and large‚ bigger than any man or animal I had seen‚ sliding through the forest not making a noise. I yelled at it‚ and it turned to look at me. I never got a good look at it through the trees and the brush and it was dark‚ but I knew that whatever it was it was causing this. I threw a rock at it and then pulled my knife. This thing just kept staring at me. I don't know what kicked in‚ but I no longer felt scared‚ I felt angry and I ran at the thing. It ran from me and I chased it in the woods. It had long strides and easily outpaced me but I continued the chase. After several minutes I gave up and collapsed in exhaustion. I rested for a bit‚ before backtracking my way back to my backpack and resting area. I was tired and made camp there.Another night of silence when I woke up the next day and had about 10 miles till I was out. Exhausted‚ hungry‚ and mentally drained‚ I made my way out. As I got closer and closer to the end of the trail‚ the typical forest noises returned. Birds‚ bugs‚ and mice run through the undergrowth. All these noises slowly returned. I no longer had this feeling of unease.I got to the trail end‚ sat in my car‚ and cried. To this day I still pass it off as someone just messing with me‚ but the way that thing moved in the forest. I just don't know. I told a park ranger about it and he jokingly said they have a bunch of Bigfoot sightings in the area‚ but most likely it was a local screwing with me or my own imagination. A Lapeer County‚ Michigan woman observes an unidentified pale‚ greyish humanoid figure creeping around the bushes at the edge of her yard. What did she observe?I received the following account:"To provide some context‚ this took place about a year ago (more accurately October/November 2017)‚ near my home in Lapeer County‚ Michigan. For reference‚ I'm about an hour north of Detroit. A used-to-be small town that's become more densely populated over the last decade‚ with a lot more hustle and bustle. However‚ where I live‚ I'm at least one mile away in all directions from any commercial zones or more modernized residential areas that tend to be a bit congested. It's one of the last stretches of slow‚ old farm country in the town that hasn't been overrun with cookie-cutter subdivisions.My house was built in the 70s by my grandfather‚ with whom I still reside‚ along with my husband‚ daughter‚ and aunt (we are his caretakers‚ while we save up/finish school to afford our own home). There's a sizeable lot or three of land between our house and our neighbors on either side. Might be worth mentioning that growing up‚ my friends always said my house looked like a house you'd see in a horror film‚ due to its setting amongst dense trees. Some of the trees have been cut down to prepare for more houses but fortunately for us‚ the builders violated multiple codes‚ I guess‚ so now there's a bit of an overgrown‚ expansive field. Anyway‚ I'm rambling‚ just an inherently descriptive person trying to paint as detailed of a landscape as possible for anyone else who might find it helpful.So‚ it's an autumn Sunday evening and the sun has been down for a bit. Most of the leaves had fallen by now but I recall it being an unusually 'warm' night‚ for that time of year. Everyone in my house was winding down for the night and preparing for the work/school week. I'd say around 10:30‚ I decide to let my dogs out one last time before turning in for the night. I go to open our back door‚ which is a giant glass sliding door-wall window‚ and my dogs are right at my feet behind me‚ ready to bust out of the door as soon as it opens wide enough. I'm glad I didn't let them out because I guarantee if they saw what I briefly did‚ they would have both charged toward it and it would have just been bad.I open the door and where the edge of our yard ends and the brushy field begins (keep in mind‚ this brush is a bit taller than I am‚ I am five feet tall exactly) a pale‚ greyish figure is standing amidst the brush at the edge of the yard. The only reason I noticed it in the first place was because the noise my door made seemed to have startled it‚ so it made noise in the dry‚ fallen leaves‚ which then caused me to direct my attention toward this noise. Which is when I saw it‚ fleetingly‚ duck down and take off further into the field behind my house. It's difficult to describe but due to what I saw‚ being familiar with coyotes‚ feral cats‚ and other animals I'm used to seeing around the property‚ it had remarkably 'human' characteristics‚ given its height and how it crouched over before moving in bound-like strides into the field. That's another thing I noticed was that it didn't make the sound that a human‚ or any animal that is native to this area for that matter‚ would make in retreat. The pace wasn't quick‚ with multiple steps like a human‚ deer‚ or coyote. They were like lengthy‚ bounding strides. And the sound it made hitting the ground had weight to it. The tread was not light‚ I guess is what I'm trying to say. It sounded big.It kind of took my breath away and I was left startled myself but due to what I did see‚ believing what I saw to bear a resemblance to a human‚ I sheepishly called out‚ "Hello? Is someone out here?" I'm still standing in my doorway‚ kind of frozen in mild fear. I yell again‚ "Hello?" This time‚ a bit more confident and enunciated. This captures the attention of my husband and my aunt. My husband came downstairs to see why I was yelling outside‚ as did my aunt. I explained to both of them‚ kind of frantically‚ what I had just witnessed. My aunt was spooked and my husband went upstairs to get a flashlight and his air rifle (I am an animal lover and I don't like the idea of him shooting any animals‚ even problem animals‚ with something that can do serious damage like a 'real gun' so he uses an air rifle but it can still wound and kill small game‚ like a raccoon).My husband and I both go outside into the backyard‚ him with the rifle and light‚ we begin scanning a pitch-black‚ overgrown field to no avail at first. Maybe after five minutes of looking‚ my husband hops on top of his sedan that's parked outside to get a better view of the field or any movement through the brush and continues looking. His gaze stops in one particular direction though. He hops down and quietly approaches me in the yard and points in the direction of what he is looking at. About 20 yards into the field‚ in the direction closer to the back of my neighbor's property‚ two glowing orange-red eyes are looking right at us through the brush. Somewhat low to the ground. When he gets me to see what he's seeing‚ he decides to shoot in the general direction of this thing to maybe startle it a bit‚ to see how it moves. He did this several times and it didn't flinch. Then he decided he would try to aim his fire directly at it‚ to get a reaction‚ and he's a damn good shot. He hits it in‚ what I imagine to be the face‚ and it sort of jumps up and when it landed‚ it was a solid-sounding thud against the ground. All the while‚ it did not break its gaze on us. After hitting the ground‚ it moved further back into the field without 'running away' necessarily‚ it kept eye contact with us the entire time. Almost as if it was walking backward‚ not once averting its gaze. It eventually moved far enough back that we both had to jump onto the car to still be able to see it. After several minutes of this‚ it had moved beyond our visual‚ so we hopped down and went inside.It's worth mentioning that there wasn't any sort of light that would cause reflective eyes‚ aside from the moon which wasn't even full and it was very dark. We purposefully kept our lights off and the eyes looked as though they weren't even reflecting light but more so emitting it.Do with this what you will but I and my husband both know what we saw and given the frequency and variety of animals we see normally otherwise‚ this was significantly different than what we see. We have deer‚ coyotes‚ foxes‚ possums‚ raccoons‚ skunks‚ and feral cats‚ all of which we are very familiar with.We have not seen anything like this before or since this time. Although we do hear strange sounds and noises in the field and the woods from time to time at night. My husband has actually woken me up in the middle of the night to listen to some strange moans and whaling‚ but that hasn't happened since earlier this year.I felt it was valuable to share in the sense that not all encounters are ones where whatever it is‚ is inherently malevolent or predatory‚ in torturous pursuit of humans. A Vernal‚ Utah resident describes a strange sighting of a very tall creature that resembled a bipedal black bear or a possible Sasquatch. He believes that it may have been a supernatural being.I received the following account:"I live near Vernal‚ Utah‚ and back in the spring of 2019‚ I had seen a couple strange creatures in the span of a few weeks to a month tops. I want to make this post mainly about the one that confuses me the most. It confuses me because I can't really find anything online that resembles this thing.So I live up in some foothills below a mountain. Just to get an idea I don't live in a developed city and we are for the most part surrounded by wilderness. I see deer just about every day.So‚ like I said‚ I had seen a couple strange creatures. At this time I only had seen one. Since that time I have been very observant. It was probably about 8:30 pm maybe 15 minutes until the sun would go down. I was scanning all the rocks‚ trees‚ and bushes with binoculars. I focused in over a fence of a house and that's when I saw this thing. There is a series of trees behind this fence‚ which almost gives the appearance of a forest. I stared through my binoculars and saw what I can only describe as an almost-black-looking bear. When I first looked at it I could only see half of its face and one side of its shoulders. I could not make out exactly what I was looking at so I just continued to stare at it through the binoculars. After staring for what was about 1 minute‚ I noticed it started to come forward.The reason I say "came forward" is because it didn't appear as if it was walking. Its upper body did not make the movements that a walking human would make. It came forward‚ and at this point‚ I could see its entire face and big muscular shoulders on each side of its body. It was staring directly at me and I feel it came forward so I could get a better look at it. Its chest and down I could not see‚ because a white fence was covering that area. although I could see the face I could not make out exactly what I was looking at. From the eyes down it looked so strange. I saw what was like a circular lighter-colored shape for a mouth and a smaller black dot for a nose‚ and that's about when it turned its head. when it turned its head‚ I realized that it resembled the head of a bear. The only difference between this thing's head and a black bear's head is that it had a stubby or short snout. I also noticed that it had ears that looked exactly like bear ears. I’m not going to take “theological advice” from a pro-abortion Christian‚ and neither should you. Bradley Onishi‚ who describes himself as a former evangelical minister‚ wrote an opinion piece for Politico titled‚ “Why Christians—and Republicans—Should Reconsider the Premise that ‘Life Begins at Conception.’” In the article‚ the writer argues that protecting the unborn is “not settled Christian theology‚ and it’s outliving its political utility.” He continued to say‚ “[I]t’s easy to think that the premise that life begins at conception is a timeless theological component of Christian belief. But it’s not.” It’s an interesting read‚ to be sure. But it’s also far from resembling even an ounce of biblical accuracy. Despite the writer exposing a string of churches that have failed to uphold the biblical value of the sanctity of life‚ it stands to reason that the Bible has always been pro-life. After all‚ Christians base their standards and values on the inerrant Word of God and the perfection of Jesus Christ. What I believe Onishi should consider is that Christians do not‚ nor should we‚ base our standards and values on fallen man (which happens to be the argument his article rests upon). So‚ what should our response be to an article such as Onishi’s? Well‚ to help settle that question‚ two of Family Research Council’s biblical worldview experts discussed the historical Christian view of the life issue on Friday’s episode of “Washington Watch.” Onishi claimed the topic of abortion only became relevant to Christians and Republicans in order to advance their politics. In response‚ David Closson‚ director of FRC’s Center for Biblical Worldview‚ said‚ “For 2‚000 years‚ the church has been pro-life. And why has the church been pro-life for 2‚000 years? It’s because the Bible is pro-life.” He pointed out the irony that people such as Onishi‚ when making claims about the Bible‚ fail to make any actual references to the Bible. “They never even quote a single verse‚” Closson said. But “there’s a reason they don’t quote a single verse‚” and it’s “because if they were to open up the Scripture‚ whether it’s in the Old Testament or the New Testament‚ you would see that the Bible is pro-life from cover to cover.” But Closson emphasized that the current age is “biblically and historically illiterate.” As such‚ even if arguments such as Onishi’s article sound intelligent‚ they’re not based in fact. “We actually need to have some historical context when we make these arguments‚” he added. And while there are many aspects of Onishi’s article to consider‚ Joseph Backholm‚ senior fellow for Worldview and Strategic Engagement at FRC‚ took a step back to analyze the macro patterns among the Left in this discussion. He said that what the Left tends to do goes far beyond the issue of abortion. Rather‚ this same technique is seen in the arguments concerning the sexual revolution‚ gender politics‚ and more. In Onishi’s case‚ Backholm explained‚ “He doesn’t argue that Scripture is clear that life does not begin at conception‚ and that God is OK with abortion. He doesn’t make that argument.” Instead‚ Onishi focuses on the fact that because there’s debate over the matter‚ then “we can’t really know” the answer. As Backholm put it‚ “The primary point is not to convince people that God likes homosexuality … transgenderism‚ or … abortion‚ [but] just that … people are debating it” and “you can’t actually know what God thinks.” A position Backholm described as “cynical‚” not theological. Closson added‚ “What a lot of these arguments are doing” is confronting “the authority of Scripture. They’re … trying to undermine the Bible.” And he noted how we first see this in the Garden of Eden when the serpent asked Eve‚ “Did God really say?” But as both Closson and Backholm reiterated‚ the pro-life movement is scientific and spiritual. In fact‚ Closson noted that “the modern pro-life movement actually started in the 19th century” by doctors who “pleaded with clergy members to make sure that their theology lined up with good science.” As for how this impacts biblical worldview‚ Closson continued‚ “[T]here’s a lot of issues that Christians can debate [as] secondary and tertiary issues‚ [and] that at the end of the day‚ we can agree to disagree on. But there’s a lot of clear issues where we don’t have to guess what God’s opinion is. We don’t have to guess what his view on life is. We have Psalm 139:13-16‚ Luke 1:39-45‚ Jeremiah 1:4-5‚ and a host of other passages. “We have clear text‚” he persisted‚ “And we can trust God and we can trust His Word.”  Backholm clarified that often‚ “when there is the appearance of ambiguity‚” it’s because people “just don’t want to believe what it appears the Bible has said.” And when this happens‚ it’s far too easy to then think it’s up to the individual to determine what is right. But “if we are leaving it up to ourselves‚” Backholm added‚ “that doesn’t make us different thinkers than the pagans‚ does it?” Closson concluded‚ “No‚ it doesn’t. … [W]e don’t want to be functional pagans. An Idaho law enacted Wednesday (H. 668) protects taxpayers from paying for “gender-transition” procedures in a variety of ways. The legislation “adds to existing law‚” namely the Vulnerable Child Protection (VCAP) Act passed in 2023‚ which prevented physicians from harming minors with gender-transition surgeries or hormones. The Legislature declared in H. 668 that “public funds shall not be used‚ granted‚ paid‚ or distributed to any entity‚ organization‚ or individual for the provision or subsidy of any surgical operation or medical intervention” described in VCAP Act‚ “whether the surgical operation or medical intervention is administered to a minor or an adult.” The law specifically prohibits gender-transition procedures from qualifying as tax-deductible medical expenses for the state’s Medicaid program. Additionally‚ the law requires that “no state property‚ facility‚ or building” be used for the procedures‚ and that no physician provide them “in the course and scope of employment by the state or a county or local government.” Violations of H. 668 are to be prosecuted as “misuse of public moneys‚” a felony offense carrying a sentence of up to $10‚000 and/or 14 years in prison for the most serious offenses. Offenders would also be terminated and barred from public office or employment‚ and must make restitution for the funds they misused. The bill passed both chambers by overwhelming margins‚ clearing the House with 84% of the vote (58-11) on March 11 and the Senate with 76% of the vote (26-8) on March 22. Idaho Gov. Brad Little‚ a Republican‚ signed the bill into law on March 27. Gender-transition procedures “carry substantial risks and have known harmful effects‚ including irreversible physical alterations and‚ in some cases‚ sterility and lifelong sexual dysfunction‚” the Legislature said in explaining its intention behind the bill. “A surgical operation or medical intervention is never necessary to the health of the minor or adult on whom it is performed if it is for the purpose of altering the appearance of an individual in order to affirm the individual’s perception of the individual’s sex in a way that is inconsistent with the individual’s biological sex.” The American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho reacted furiously to the bill’s passage‚ complaining that the Idaho Legislature had “once again decided to cave in to the hateful demands of far-right extremists at the expense of the safety‚ security‚ and health of Idaho’s transgender community‚” and‚ according to local station KTVB‚ “adding that lawmakers could simply choose to allow transgender people in Idaho to make their own medical decisions in peace.” The ACLU has challenged similar laws restricting gender-transition procedures around the country‚ and one prominent ACLU was recently cited for the impermissible practice of judge-shopping in a legal challenge to Alabama’s VCAP. “People should not be subjected to harmful—often irreversible—drugs and surgeries that block healthy development‚ alter hormonal balances‚ and remove healthy organs and body parts‚” responded Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Matt Sharp. “This radical agenda has devastated countless lives‚ which is why some countries—including Sweden‚ England‚ and Finland—have changed course.” “Now and always‚ our loved ones deserve the loving embrace of family members who guide them toward this reality‚ along with access to safe and effective counseling‚” Sharp continued. “There are only two sexes—male and female—and public funds shouldn’t be used to deny this basic truth.” Originally published by The Washington Stand The post Idaho Legislature Bans Public Funding for ‘Gender-Transition’ Procedures appeared first on The Daily Signal.

What planet are these people living on‚ anyway? The Planet Fitness gym chain has been in the news of late after a self-described “queer” man who says he identifies as a woman was allowed to use the women’s locker room at a Planet Fitness in Fairbanks‚ Alaska. When Patricia Silva‚ an actual XX-chromosome female member of the gym‚ understandably complained of the invasion of privacy‚ Planet Fitness didn’t ask the wannabe woman to use the men’s facilities. Instead‚ it canceled Silva’s membership for having the temerity to complain loudly and publicly. That’s because Planet Fitness’ gender-identity policy states: “All members will have access to restroom and locker room facilities that correspond to their self-reported gender identity to the extent permitted by applicable law.” Apparently‚ the locker room interloper and the honchos at Planet Fitness aren’t familiar with the truism “Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins.” In this instance‚ it was a part of his anatomy other than his fist at issue. Suppose aliens from another galaxy were to come here and were made aware that Planet Fitness was not just indulging this transgender lunacy‚ but emphatically enforcing it. In that case‚ they’d quickly depart‚ declaring‚ “There’s no intelligent life on this Planet.” The suits at the Hampton‚ New Hampshire-based Planet Fitness chain apparently learned nothing from Bud Light’s “go woke‚ go broke” debacle‚ which exploded in the news a year ago this week—on April Fools’ Day 2023‚ aptly enough. Bud Light’s parent company‚ Anheuser-Busch InBev‚ paid a steep price for flirting with transgenderism in its marketing efforts. (Photo: Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto/Getty Images) After Anheuser-Busch’s then-vice president of marketing for Bud Light‚ Alissa Heinerscheid‚ decided it would be a good idea to hire transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney as a “brand ambassador” for Bud Light‚ the ensuing consumer boycott cost the beer giant not only $27 billion in market capitalization‚ but also Bud Light’s status as the bestselling beer brand in the U.S. One-upping New Coke as an epic fail caused Heinerscheid to lose her job and be banished to the obscurity she so richly deserved (although‚ according to her LinkedIn profile‚ she remained on Anheuser-Busch InBev’s payroll until last November). Whoever at Planet Fitness decided to give Silva—rather than the locker room interloper—the boot deserves to meet the same fate as Heinerscheid. I had a membership to Planet Fitness‚ but not anymore. I canceled it over the weekend in protest of its pro-transgender policies and in solidarity with Silva. It will cost Planet Fitness my $39 annual membership fee (auto-pay debited from my bank account on March 1‚ which I will insist on a prorated rebate of) and the ongoing $10 monthly fee‚ most recently debited on March 18‚ for which I will also ask for a partial refund. Canceling my membership won’t be much of a sacrifice on my part because I have been to my Planet Fitness in Springfield‚ Virginia‚ only twice in the past two years. If I ever get serious again about working out regularly‚ my employer has a full gym on-site. By itself‚ my $159 a year probably isn’t much of a loss to Planet Fitness‚ a corporate giant with 2‚400 locations. But if you multiply it by the countless others who are presumably doing likewise‚ it will cost the gym chain plenty for genuflecting to the LGBTQ lobby. Planet Fitness “saw a $400 million dive in valuation from $5.3 billion to $4.9 billion just days after revoking an Alaska woman’s membership‚” Fox Business reported March 21. In the bigger picture‚ how many Bud Lights‚ Targets‚ Rip Curls‚ and now Planet Fitnesses losing millions or even billions of dollars will it take for left-wing executives to get the message that they shouldn’t bend over backward and forward for a vanishingly small (an estimated 0.003 of 1% of the population) but vociferous minority? In Planet Fitness’ case‚ it risks alienating the vast majority of its female customers‚ who understandably don’t want to be forced to share private spaces with gender-confused men. (Just as an aside‚ where’s the left’s commitment to “safe spaces” in this case?) The Planet Fitness debacle came amid a March 21 House Judiciary Committee hearing on the subject of transgender females interloping in girls’ and women’s athletics. As tallied by the site SheWon.org‚ in close to 300 instances‚ they have deprived real girls and women of titles‚ medals‚ trophies‚ and opportunities to advance to next-level competition. Regrettably‚ but perhaps not surprisingly‚ Democrats on the committee defended the interlopers‚ and the Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act barely passed out of committee on a party-line 16-15 vote. Planet Fitness aside‚ the broader issue here provides a big opening for conservatives to seize upon in this fall’s election campaigns to counteract the Left’s forthcoming pro-abortion onslaught in appealing for the suburban women’s (aka “soccer mom”) vote—assuming conservative candidates are smart enough to recognize it. The National Council of Teachers of English‚ a professional development organization‚ hosted remote training to instruct K-12 teachers on how to teach the controversial book “Gender Queer” in their “classrooms‚ libraries‚ and communities.” The NCTE‚ which boasts 25‚000 members around the United States‚ hosted a panel including “Gender Queer” author Maia Kobabe and an “LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee” to discuss how to incorporate the pornographic book into school curriculum.  The National Council of Teachers of English described Kobabe and the other panelists for the Jan. 25 event as having “expertise in queer and trans pedagogies in schools and teacher education.” A notice posted on the National Council of Teachers of English website. Liberal and LGBTQ+ news outlets initially claimed that the book wasn’t taught in any classrooms‚ and many activists argued that “Gender Queer” was only a library book students could check out. Just two years later‚ it has become a celebrated necessity for gender-affirming teachers’ classroom instruction. “Gender Queer‚” published in the comic-book style of a graphic novel‚ is a memoir that depicts minors engaging in sexual acts as the author recalls exploring her sexuality— including her fantasy of a child giving oral sex to an elderly man. While public school libraries and classrooms around the country have refused to remove “Gender Queer” for its inappropriate content (and lack of educational value)‚ parents and activists have been cut off while reading excerpts aloud at school board meetings—with elected board members arguing that the content was inappropriate for such public reading.  Dozens of schools around the nation have banned the book from school grounds for its pornographic content. Several states have restricted lessons on sexuality and gender identity through the third grade. The National Council of Teachers of English claims on its website that “recent waves of censorship and book banning” targeting Kobabe’s memoir are a result of parents “taking the work out of context.” “Plenty of parents and journalists have found ‘Gender Queer’ in public school libraries‚” Daniel Buck‚ a fellow at the Fordham Institute‚ told The Daily Signal. “Here we see that many teachers are encouraged to go yet a step further and actively teach sexually explicit books as part of the approved curriculum.” Last September‚ Kobabe admitted that her book isn’t appropriate for children‚ but has since returned to advising teachers on how to incorporate the graphic novel into their classrooms. This isn’t the first time that the National Council of Teachers of English used its education platform as a bully pulpit for liberal activism.  In November‚ the NCTE began its annual convention with a nod to Hamas’ brutal terror attacks that killed over 1‚200 in Israel the previous Oct. 7. The organization seemed to allude to the attacks as expressing “Palestinians’ right to self-determination and their rights in Gaza and the West Bank.” The majority of the sessions at the convention weren’t about teaching English effectively‚ meeting state standards‚ or combating the crisis of illiteracy in the United States. Instead‚ the focus was on “using critical race theory” (which we were also told wasn’t used in schools)‚ supporting “decolonization‚” and calling for “an end to white mainstream English.” Joe Goodson‚ a veteran public high school English teacher in Texas‚ has concerns about the NCTE’s education agenda. In a letter to the Texas Scorecard news site‚ Goodson described it as “an unhelpful agenda [complicating] our already difficult task.” The National Council of Teachers of English didn’t respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment by time of publication. FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Cross-dressed by his grandmother as a child‚ abused by his uncle‚ confused and hurting‚ Walt Heyer sought to become a woman. As a young man‚ he underwent attempted gender-reassignment surgery‚ lived as a trans-identifying woman for eight years‚ and ultimately detransitioned. Heyer‚ now 83‚ has spent the past few decades offering support to men and women who also have been taught to believe they were born in the wrong body. As part of that effort‚ he told The Daily Signal‚ he’s written a number of books and answered “thousands” of letters from individuals‚ often men‚ who seek his help. Now‚ he’s partnering with Ascend Pictures Productions to produce a movie about his story‚ tentatively titled “Who Am I.” That documentary film will pose the question‚ Heyer says: “Who do we think we are?” “There’s been nothing like it‚” he said in a Tuesday telephone interview. “It is a powerful movie.” Heyer knows his story has inspired many people‚ and he believes it should be shared through documentary film. When he was only 4 years old‚ he has shared‚ his grandmother would secretly dress him in a purple chiffon dress. The attention and affirmation—which made Heyer feel very special as a child—“would be his mustard seed of torment.” His film’s website shares: “The dress also became a source of his turmoil once his parents found out about his secret. His father’s spankings became more intense and also led to his being sexually abused by his uncle. This manifested into Walt’s affliction—thoughts and feelings that maybe he should have been born a girl. Andrea and then Laura were born in his mind‚ and they wanted Walt gone.” Walt Heyer wants to share his experience with gender transitioning and detransitioning in a documentary film for the benefit of others who might be experiencing the same gender dysphoria he once did. Heyer emphasized to The Daily Signal that he wants the film to focus on sharing his story‚ rather than being preachy: “We really want it to appeal to people who don’t know Jesus. And I think it will.” He wants viewers to understand that the issues he was dealing with‚ and the issues that other individuals who try to transition are experiencing‚ go much deeper than gender. And gender therapists are not going to be able to help individuals struggling in this way‚ Heyer maintains. But the documentary will need financial support to make it happen. Heyer encourages supporters to visit the prospective film’s website‚ where they can sign up for updates. “We need support‚” he noted. “We need the crowdfunding to get it off the ground.
