A Short History of Joe’s Long Record of Lying About Biden Inc.

After being asked the other day why he’s interacted with “so many” foreign associates of his son Hunter and brother James‚ President Joe Biden responded by claiming the allegations were “a bunch of lies.” This‚ of course‚ wasn’t the first time the president blatantly lied about his role in the family influence-peddling business. You might recall that during a 2020 campaign event‚ the then-presidential hopeful was asked by an Iowa man if Hunter had ever had “access to the Obama administration.” The future president‚ who had vowed to bring decorum and decency back to the White House‚ called the man a “damn liar” and “fat” and told him he was “too old” before insulting his IQ. This act of projection from Biden should have been a warning. It was modus operandi for Joe‚ whose preternatural dishonesty was impressive even for a politician‚ to question the mental fitness of those who caught him in a lie. Biden would go on to contend to have never “discussed with my son anything having to do with what was going on in Ukraine. That’s a fact.” Another time‚ the former veep claimed he “never discussed a single thing with my son having to do with Ukraine. No one has indicated I have. We’ve always kept everything separate.” Not a single thing. When the New York Post broke the Hunter Biden laptop story‚ strongly indicating that Joe had lied‚ virtually the entire left-wing media tried to bury the story by relying on the claim of former intelligence officials that the story smelled like Russian “disinformation.” Even Joe noted that the “vast majority of the intelligence people have come out and said there’s no basis at all.” Well‚ we soon found out there was plenty of basis to the story. Hunter had hosted a dinner in a private room at Cafe Milano in Washington‚ D.C.‚ with his dad and an executive from the Biden-funders at Burisma. And in an email dated the next day‚ the Ukrainian exec thanked Hunter for the meeting with his dad. In scores of other emails and texts‚ Hunter talks about his dad helping him secure payments and taking a cut. Indeed‚ one of Hunter’s former business partners contends Joe was involved in the family business‚ as does Hunter’s former close friend‚ who testified under oath that Joe was on upward of 20 calls with business associates. At this point‚ there was overwhelming direct evidence that Joe was a willing participant‚ at the very least‚ in creating the impression that influence-trading was happening and plenty of circumstantial evidence that the elder Biden was getting a 10% cut for the troubles. And as evidence of the president’s lies about his family’s influence-peddling business mounted‚ “fact-checkers” and the media began struggling to keep up with fresh information. At first‚ we were told there was “no evidence” that Biden knew anything. Suddenly‚ there was “no evidence” that Biden had personally benefited from Biden Inc. (as if enriching your entire family wasn’t personal enough). Why then‚ people wondered‚ had James Biden written his brother Joe a personal check for $200‚000‚ that also happened to be the exact amount James had received from the failed Chinese-connected Americore family venture on that very same day? Talk about crazy coincidences. It was around this time that White House language began subtly shifting from blanket denials to finely tuned Clinton-esque turns of phrase about Joe never being “in business with his son.” This week‚ the House Oversight Committee released financial documents illustrating that Hunter signed off on monthly transfers to Joe through Owasco PC‚ a Biden shell company that pulled at least $5 million from the Chicom energy concerns in 2017 and 2018. The Daily Mail reports there were at least three payments‚ from September 2018 to November 2018‚ or a few months before Biden announced he was running for president. Granted‚ it’s not always easy to find the money trail. The Biden family operated through at least 20 shell companies—as one does when running a completely aboveboard‚ legit business venture. It’s not easy to keep up. You might also recall that in 2020‚ Biden had claimed Hunter never “made money in terms of this thing about—what are you talking about—China.” But Hunter had not only tagged along on an Air Force Two trip to China in 2013; he’d introduced his dad to the Chinese banker that would be working on a Biden private equity fund. So‚ I eagerly look forward to fact-checkers‚ the media and the White House clarifying why this is all just fine. From Joe Biden “knew nothing” to Joe Biden “did nothing” to none of what Joe Biden did was “illegal”—it’s been a wild ride. The International Space Station Celebrates 25 Years in Space

NASA recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the International Space Station (ISS) with a space-to-Earth call between the 7-person Expedition 70 crew and outgoing NASA Associate Administrator‚ Bob Cabana‚ and ISS Program Manager‚ Joel Montalbano. On December 6‚ 1998‚ the U.S.-built Unity module and the Russian-built Zarya module were mated in the Space Shuttle Endeavour cargo bay‚ as Endeavour was responsible for launching Unity into orbit that same day‚ with Zarya having waited in orbit after being launched on November 20 from Kazakhstan. “I cannot believe it was 25 years ago today that we grappled Zarya and joined it with the Unity node‚” said Cabana during the call from NASA Headquarters in Washington‚ D.C. “Absolutely amazing.” While this milestone marks 25 years since the first two ISS modules were attached‚ it would be another two years until the ISS had a crew‚ Expedition 1‚ which arrived at the ISS in November 2000 and stayed until March 2001‚ beginning an uninterrupted human presence on the ISS that continues today. During the two-year period between the first mating and Expedition 1‚ the Russian-built Zvedza module was attached to the Unity and Zarya modules on July 26‚ 2000‚ after launching from Kazakhstan two weeks earlier. Assembly of the large modules of the ISS would continue until 2021 when the Roscosmos-funded Nauka module was attached in July 2021. Now in its final configuration‚ the ISS is approximately the size of an American gridiron football field consisting of 8 solar arrays that provide the station’s power while maintaining an average altitude of 400 kilometers (250 miles). Its massive size consists of a pressurized module length along the major axis of 67 meters (218 feet)‚ a truss (primary body) length of 94 meters (310 feet)‚ a solar array length (measured along the truss) of 73 meters (239 feet)‚ and a total mass of 419‚725 kilograms (925‚335 pounds). (Credit: NASA) Image of the ISS taken by SpaceX Crew-2 mission on November 8‚ 2021 after it successfully undocked from the ISS Harmony module. (Credit: NASA) Ever since the 3-person Expedition 1 crew first took command of the ISS‚ a total of 273 individuals from 21 countries have visited the orbiting laboratory and have been comprised of trained astronauts and private visitors. From most visitors to least‚ the following visitor countries include the United States‚ Russia‚ Japan‚ Canada‚ Italy‚ France‚ Germany‚ Saudi Arabia‚ United Arab Emirates‚ Belgium‚ Brazil‚ Denmark‚ Great Britain‚ Israel‚ Kazakhstan‚ Malaysia‚ Netherlands‚ South Africa‚ South Korea‚ Spain‚ and Sweden. “One of my favorite aspects of the International Space Station is the international part of it‚” said NASA Astronaut and Expedition 70 Flight Engineer‚ Jasmin Moghbeli‚ during the call. “We each bring our unique perspectives‚ not just from our different nationalities‚ but also our different backgrounds. I think we’re definitely strengthened by the international partnership. It’s just like gaining redundancy when you have multiple partners working together. It’s stronger and more resilient to any sort of problems or obstacles that come our way and so it definitely makes us stronger. And I think that’s why we have had the International Space Station up here for 25 years now.” Image of all five space station partner nations being represented during Expedition 20. (Credit: NASA) Along with the vast international participation‚ the ISS has conducted more than 2‚500 research experiments from scientific researchers in more than 108 nations across a myriad of industries‚ including biology and biotechnology‚ Earth and space science‚ educational activities‚ human research‚ physical science‚ and technology. This also includes 20 different research experiments having been conducted on the outside of the ISS‚ as well. Currently‚ Expedition 70 has conducted just over 200 experiments since the start of its mission in September 2023. (Credit: NASA) Despite the vast scientific and technological achievements accomplished on the ISS‚ all good things must come to an end‚ as the massive orbiting laboratory is planned to be deorbited in January 2031. This is when NASA will allow burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere and fall into Point Nemo in the middle of the Pacific Ocean‚ also known as the “spacecraft cemetery” and is the most distant oceanic point from any land on Earth. As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ISS‚ we look forward to its final years of service to science‚ technology‚ and humanity‚ along with celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2028! As always‚ keep doing science &; keep looking up! The post The International Space Station Celebrates 25 Years in Space appeared first on Universe Today.

Counting Bugs to Save Birds

Wyoming’s professional pollinator whisperer didn’t always like bugs very much. He’s a common sight these days among the scrubby plants retaking former oil and gas well pads. But until he was about 20 years old‚ Michael Curran figured — as most people did — that insects were pests. “You’d think of termites and bees‚” he says. “A bee was something that stung you.” Then‚ when he was an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware‚ Curran took a class taught by a now-famous entomologist that would change the course of his life. He hadn’t intended to enroll. Everything else was full‚ and Behavioral Ecology of Insects ended up being the only option left that would fulfill a requirement for his biology degree. Large sagebrush plants support diverse plant communities. Credit: Jennifer Strickland / US Fish and Wildlife Service “I wasn’t happy about being in an insect class‚” he says. “And then it turned out that it was one of the most interesting classes I ever took.” Thanks to that class‚ and to the years he then spent working with that professor‚ Curran came to see insects as the overlooked linchpin of the ecosystems he studied. Even then‚ he didn’t plan on devoting much of his life to insects. His love of native plants was what led him to enroll in an ecological restoration program at the University of Wyoming in 2010. It was his knowledge of insects‚ however‚ that helped keep him there for a decade as he worked toward his PhD. Soon after he began his graduate program‚ Curran found himself in the middle of an unfolding crisis. The sagebrush sea‚ a fragile ecosystem stretching from Arizona to Montana and from California to Colorado‚ was disappearing. And the greater sage grouse‚ a chicken-sized bird loosely resembling the turkey collages that young children make around Thanksgiving‚ was on the brink of being added to the endangered species list. Greater sage grouse at Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge. Credit: Tom Koerner / USFWS State officials and private energy companies were scrambling to find a way to reverse the species’ decline without the federal government having to intervene. Aided by researchers‚ they came up with a conservation strategy that hinged on designating core sage grouse habitat and limiting human activity there. Curran was the one who realized how crucial insects would be in achieving it. A decade later‚ he’s still adding new pieces to the puzzle. Wyoming is home to more than a third of the world’s surviving greater sage grouse. The imperiled sagebrush ecosystem — the only place where the species is found — stretches across most of the state. It has fared better in Wyoming than in most other places: Nationally‚ an estimated 2‚000 square miles of the iconic landscape have succumbed each year of the past two decades to human incursions‚ invasive species and the ever-intensifying droughts and wildfires brought on by climate change. But sage grouse populations tend to fluctuate with the health of the ecosystem as a whole‚ and even Wyoming has struggled to improve its sage grouse numbers.
