Waymo released a software update to resolve the issue, and that update has already been rolled out in all affected vehicles, the recall notice said. Waymo said it was aware of 16 collisions with chains, gates and other barriers between 2022 and late 2024. But the incidents did not result in any injuries, according to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NHTSA opened an investigation into the performance of Waymo self-driving vehicles in May 2024 after reports of its robotaxis exhibiting driving behavior that potentially violated traffic safety laws. The agency said several incidents under investigation “involved collisions with clearly visible objects that a competent driver would be expected to avoid.” The investigation remains open. President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that it would be “great” if his border czar, Tom Homan, arrested California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom over the anti-ICE riots that hit Los Angeles County over the weekend. Homan threatened Newsom and L.A. The governor said Trump’s move was “unconstitutional” and that the administration did not coordinate with his office before deploying the National Guard, a power typically exercised by governors. Thunberg, wrapped in a keffiyeh, stared into the camera and claimed, “If you see this video, we have been intercepted and kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli occupational forces, or forces that support Israel.” She then called on people to “put pressure” on the Swedish government to do everything they could to get her back. But as critics quickly pointed out, Thunberg’s “hostage video” was recorded and shared before the “Freedom Flotilla” — also dubbed the “Selfie Flotilla” — was ever even intercepted by Israeli officials.
