Alarms about low-skilled police causing trouble

DOMESTIC. With the current reduced admission requirements for police training, we get police officers "with such a low level of talent that they would not be allowed to do military service". Johan Siverland, police inspector and teacher at the police training at Södertörn University, writes in Polistidningen.
"As a teacher in police training at Södertörn University, I see the future with strong skepticism," writes Johan Siverland in his debate article in Polistidningen.
He describes how today there are students who are "caught cheating, who have to take psychotropic drugs to cope with everyday life and who show their own driving licenses and ask how to know which numbers are the social security number".
"Students who during practice, more than halfway into their education, shoot a 'drunk man' who does not want to give up his liquor bottle," Siverland continues.
According to him, with the current admission requirements and routines, we will have police officers who lack sufficient knowledge to intervene correctly, who "may well fabricate evidence" and who may pose a danger to themselves and others.
"We will have police officers who work under criminal liability with such a low level of talent that they would not be allowed to do military service," writes Johan Siverland.
Something must be done about the low admission requirements and routines in police training, he states.
"I believe that the management of the Police Authority and the politicians who govern must decide on one of two alternatives. Do we want normally gifted, honest, competent and mentally healthy police officers? Even if we do not become more as fast as desired? Or do we want so many "Even if a larger number than before behave in such a way that the public's as well as the legal community's trust in police officers deteriorates?" writes Johan Siverland.
