Hamas official Hisham Qasem spouted a new propaganda talking point for the terrorist group this week‚ claiming that Hamas terrorists had kidnapped Thai nationals “for their own protection” during their October 7 attack on Israel. Qasem’s remarks come after Hamas terrorists murdered 39 Thai nationals during their attack and took an unknown number hostage. Qasem falsely claimed that the hostages were only “detainees” and that Israel was “shelling” houses located in the kibbutzes. “[Turkey and Hamas] discussed the release of some of the [Thai] detainees‚” he said. “As we said at the beginning of the October 7 operation‚ these [Thai nationals] were detained for their own protection‚ because on October 7‚ the forces of the Zionist army was shelling the houses with people inside – whether members of the Al-Qassam Brigades‚ [foreign] laborers‚ or even the Zionist inhabitants of those settlements.” The Associated Press reported last week that Hamas freed 10 Thai nationals as part of a temporary ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel as Israel seeks to gain the release of as many innocent civilians as possible. “Thais were the single biggest group of foreigners taken hostage when Hamas took some 240 people during its Oct. 7 surprise attack on southern Israel‚” the AP said. “Thais working in Israel are mostly employed as semi-skilled farm laborers‚ at wages considerably higher than those at they can earn at home.” Four of the Thai nationals who were released were not known by officials to have been taken hostage by Hamas — and officials believe at least 20 more Thai nationals remain hostage. Disney acknowledged risks due to a “misalignment” between the company’s products and the public that are hurting its bottom line in recent filings with the government. Disney filed its annual SEC report for the year ending on September 30 last week. George Washington law professor Jonathan Turley pointed out the report in a column with The Hill on Saturday. “We face risks relating to misalignment with public and consumer tastes and preferences for entertainment‚ travel and consumer products‚ which impact demand for our entertainment offerings and products and the profitability of any of our businesses‚” the SEC filing states. Disney says that the “success of our businesses depends on our ability to consistently create compelling content.” One of the chief hurdles it faces is “consumer tastes and preferences that change in often unpredictable ways‚” the filing says. “Generally‚ our revenues and profitability are adversely impacted when our entertainment offerings and products‚ as well as our methods to make our offerings and products available to consumers‚ do not achieve sufficient consumer acceptance. Further‚ consumers’ perceptions of our position on matters of public interest‚ including our efforts to achieve certain of our environmental and social goals‚ often differ widely and present risks to our reputation and brands‚” the filing says. The SEC report shows that “Disney appears concerned that [the] ‘invisible hand’ of Adam Smith is effectively giving the ‘House of Mouse’ the middle finger‚” according to Turley. The filing comes after Disney postponed the release of its remake of the classic children’s fairy tale “Snow White” following public backlash to a characterization of the film by its lead actress‚ Rachel Zegler. A photo release of the seven dwarves for the live-action remake drew skepticism‚ as well. “She’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love‚” Zegler said of the film earlier this year. “She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless‚ fair‚ brave and true.” Turley notes that Disney has gone through a rough series of releases. “Disney has reportedly lost a billion dollars just on four of its recent ‘woke’ movie flops‚ productions denounced by critics as pushing political agendas or storylines. Yet until now‚ the company has continued to roll out underperforming movies as revenue has dropped‚” Turley said. An adult male guest at Disneyland was arrested on Sunday after he stripped down fully naked and caused havoc in the California park during the Thanksgiving holiday — boarding a boat on the “It’s A Small World” ride before he was apprehended and removed from the property. Anaheim Police Department spokesperson Jonathan McClintock told People magazine that officers “responded to Disneyland to assist Disney security with a guest who removed his clothes and was naked in or near the ‘It’s a Small World’ attraction.” “Upon officers’ arrival‚ they arrested a 26-year-old man for indecent exposure and for being under the influence of a controlled substance‚” McClintock added‚ noting that the guest was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. Various clips later surfaced on social media of the fully naked man. In one video he’s seen walking around in the water near the attraction. In another video‚ he had on what appeared to be a pair of shorts and was off the ride touching the animatronics as a women’s voice — fellow guest Maegan Carmona — could be overheard pleading with him to stop. “We noticed he started climbing onto the different parts of the ride‚ and we noticed that he was undressed‚” Carmona told Entertainment Weekly. “He just looked out of it‚” she added.  “He just didn’t look like he knew where he was. He looked worried. Cops are quitting New York City‘s police force in droves with more than 2‚500 officers leaving just this year. A total of 2‚516 NYPD officers have left so far this year‚ the fourth highest in the past 10 years‚ according to NYPD pension data obtained by the New York Post. The number also 43% higher than the 1‚750 cops who left the force in 2018. More cops are quitting before they get their pensions‚ too. Back in 2020‚ about 509 officers quit before the 20 years on the force they need to get their full pension. This year‚ 1‚040 officers below the 20-year mark have quit already‚ a 104% increase‚ and the year is not even over. “The workload is a leading factor driving people away from the job‚” Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry said. “If the NYPD is going to survive these staffing reductions‚ it cannot just keep squeezing cops for more hours.” Over just two days in February‚ 21 officers left the force for the MTA‚ the Post reported. In June‚ former NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell stepped down‚ reportedly due to tension with the mayor’s office. The mass exodus comes as the police department faces drastic budget cuts due to the city’s illegal migrant crisis. Mayor Eric Adams announced the budget cuts earlier this month. The NYPD will be slashed to just 29‚000 cops by September‚ 2025‚ the lowest level in over two decades. The next five Police Academy classes have also been canceled as part of the cuts. Also this year‚ the NYPD lowered its fitness standards to bring more women onto the force‚ a decision the mayor reportedly had to approve. Last month‚ however‚ Adams admitted that the city needs more cops. “We can use more‚” Adams told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I’m very clear on that.” The mayor added that he believes the problem extends beyond New York City and that “we have a law enforcement crisis across the country.” In fact‚ other cities‚ including Los Angeles‚ San Francisco‚ Austin‚ and Nashville‚ have also struggled with a police shortage in recent years. Many in law enforcement say departments are suffering from flagging morale thanks to a wave of anti-police sentiment that peaked with the police killing of George Floyd in 2020. In some cases‚ city councils have slashed police budgets‚ leaving some police chiefs feeling abandoned as they are stretched thin trying to keep residents safe. Resignations among cops were up 47% last year over 2019‚ and retirements were up 19% among 200 police forces surveyed by the Police Executive Research Forum.
