How Bidenomics Has Given Us Most Expensive Thanksgiving Ever

Just in time for the holiday season‚ Bidenomics has managed to deliver the costliest Thanksgiving in American history. What is perhaps the quintessential American holiday is now another reminder that the nation is in a cost-of-living crisis where even food is taxing families’ budgets. This is the direct result of the leftist ideology that constantly pushes for more government spending‚ borrowing‚ and printing of money. The record budget deficit from 2020‚ fueled by excess spending purportedly to get the nation through the pandemic‚ was supposed to be a one-time fluke. If the Biden administration had simply allowed COVID-era spending to expire‚ federal expenditures would’ve plummeted‚ so much so that there’d be a balanced budget today. Instead‚ the big spenders piled on‚ at taxpayer expense. By perpetuating multi-trillion-dollar deficits and printing money to pay for the profligacy‚ the government created a cornucopia of disaster: 40-year-high inflation‚ a banking crisis‚ massive losses across 401(k) retirement plans and pension funds‚ plummeting homeownership affordability‚ a collapse of savings‚ an explosion of consumer debt‚ and falling real (meaning inflation-adjusted) earnings. While that’s clearly a legacy of failure‚ such a macro-level assessment doesn’t necessarily bring home the impact of Bidenomics on the American family. So‚ let’s see how the leftist agenda of the last 2-1/2 years has increased the price of your Thanksgiving dinner‚ compared to when President Joe Biden took office. With turkey prices up 29%‚ many families might choose to downsize the centerpiece of their meal this Thanksgiving. The mashed potatoes aren’t as bad‚ but have still risen in price by about 13%. And that’s only about one-third of the increase for stuffing—more than 35%. If you’re planning on enjoying rolls with your dinner‚ or accoutrements like cranberry sauce or gravy‚ you’ll shell out an extra 26% for any of those. Making cornbread or a corn casserole? The yellow maize costs about 20% more under the Biden administration‚ so be prepared to pay extra or make less. If you and your family opt for a green-bean casserole instead‚ or maybe candied yams‚ sweet potatoes‚ or roasted carrots‚ it’s even worse. Prices for all of those are up more than 27%. Don’t expect any relief when it comes to dessert: The price of pumpkin pie is also up more than 27%‚ too. Altogether‚ the bill this year for your Thanksgiving meal with your family is 26% higher than when Biden took office. That’s significantly worse than the official 17% increase in overall prices seen in the consumer price index. For the millions of Americans who are already drowning in credit card debt and working multiple jobs to try to make ends meet‚ they have no good choices this Thanksgiving‚ and we’re not even talking about unlikable in-laws. To save money‚ people may have to invite fewer guests‚ make less food‚ or choose less expensive options than their traditional fare. Those who don’t cut back on their Thanksgiving plans will have to cut back elsewhere in their budgets or turn to their credit cards for a lifeline. With interest rates on those credit cards at a record high and balances already exceeding $1 trillion‚ more debt is the last thing American families need right now‚ and it’s sad to think this is how some people will need to finance their holidays. But what makes this all particularly disheartening is that Thanksgiving is supposed to be a holiday where we as Americans gather in gratitude for our abundance. Instead‚ many Americans will spend the holiday stressing over how to pay their bills. It’s further proof that a government big enough to give you everything is also big enough to take everything away—even your holidays. 400-Year-Old Alchemical Mystery Solved: Why Does Gold Explode Purple?

It’s easy to laugh at the alchemists of yesteryear‚ with their spotty understanding of science and dogged determination to discover nuclear transmutation five centuries before the discovery of the nucleus. But can we really blame them? After all‚ it’s only now‚ after 400 years of advancements in chemistry and physics‚ that we’ve finally solved the mystery of how they were creating purple explosions all those years ago.Fulminating gold – the name comes from the older meaning of “fulminate”‚ viz‚ “explode” – was the first high explosive ever discovered. The earliest reference to its creation comes from 1585‚ in a book by the German alchemist Sebald Schwaerzer‚ and it’s been popular ever since with just about everybody – from academic chemists to popular YouTubers. Why? Well‚ it’s easy to make‚ fun to use‚ and the icing on the cake: it gives off an unusual purple smoke when it detonates. But despite its chemical makeup being thoroughly understood for centuries now‚ the reason for that violet smog has thus far stumped science.    It’s not that people haven’t had their suspicions. “[It] is often stated [that] the source of the unusual red or purple coloration of the smoke… is due to the presence of gold nanoparticles‚” notes a new paper (currently in preprint form‚ meaning it has not been peer-reviewed) from researchers at the University of Bristol. It might sound strange that the presence of gold should color something purple‚ but there’s actually some pretty strong circumstantial evidence to support the idea. “[Fulminating gold] has been used to coat objects in a purple/crimson patina‚” the authors explain‚ “much in the same way that solutions of gold nanoparticles can be used to coat substrates with purple/red layers.” But so far‚ nobody has been able to prove the hypothesis one way or the other – until now. “Our experiment involved creating fulminating gold‚ then detonating 5mg samples on aluminium foil by heating it‚” said Simon Hall‚ Professor of Chemistry at the University of Bristol‚ who authored the new paper alongside his PhD student Jan Maurycy Uszko‚ in a statement. “We captured the smoke using copper meshes and then analyzed the smoke sample under a transmission electron microscope‚” he explained. “Sure enough‚ we found the smoke contained spherical gold nanoparticles‚ confirming the theory that the gold was playing a role in the mysterious smoke.”Transmission electron microscopy image of a cluster of gold nanoparticles captured from detonated fulminating gold.Jan Maurycy Uszko et al‚ Arxiv 2023Having located a rare win for the alchemy crowd‚ the team now plans to use the same methods to investigate the smoke produced by other metal fulminates such as platinum‚ silver‚ lead‚ and mercury (if that last one sounds familiar‚ you might be remembering the time Walter White used it to blow the freaking roof off of Tuco’s drug den.)Just like fulminating gold‚ the precise nature of these clouds remains a mystery – though perhaps not for much longer. And the results aren’t just of use to those interested in the history of science or peculiar chemical reactions: even with just the purple problem solved‚ the team is already talking about potential applications in the fast and quick synthesis of super-regular metal nanoparticles – useful in fields as diverse as medicine‚ bioengineering‚ or anything involving nanotechnology.“I was delighted that our team have been able to help answer this question‚” said Hall‚ “and further our understanding of this material.”The preprint can be viewed on ArXiv.

Radical Magazine: Stop the 'Trauma‚' Replace Thanksgiving with Decolonized 'Truthsgiving'

The radical leftists at The Nation can be counted on to be the Debbie Downers of Thanksgiving. In a feature they mysteriously called "The Debate‚" two native American activists both argue that the holiday is grievously wrong and it should be a day for "centering the Indigenous perspective." The headline: Should America Keep Celebrating Thanksgiving? Sean Sherman argues that we need to decolonize Thanksgiving‚ while Chase Iron Eyes calls for replacing Thanksgiving with a “Truthsgiving.” Sean Sherman provided the picture-perfect leftist indictment of American mythology: For many Americans‚ the image of Thanksgiving is one of supposed unity: the gathering of “Pilgrims and Indians” in a harmonious feast. But this version obscures the harsh truth‚ one steeped in colonialism‚ violence‚ and misrepresentation…The sanitized version of Thanksgiving neglects to mention the violence‚ land theft‚ and subsequent decimation of Indigenous populations. Needless to say‚ this causes tremendous distress to those of us who are still reeling from the trauma of these events to our communities. "Decolonize" Thanksgiving and break your bond with capitalism!  This Thanksgiving‚ let’s break the bonds of colonization and capitalism—not just on our plates but in our perspectives‚ too. I want a Thanksgiving where I can be thankful that I live in a world where diversity is celebrated‚ and where every person’s connection to their food‚ land‚ and history is respected and cherished. I would like to be thankful not only for a more inclusive world but for a more accurate accounting of the past. This inclusivity and commitment to truth would honor Indigenous people‚ but also every person on the planet. Banning histories as a righteous crusade to eradicate different opinions is wrong; understanding true histories is necessary. A decolonized Thanksgiving could transform a holiday marred by historical amnesia into a celebration of genuine gratitude‚ unity‚ and recognition of our rich Indigenous heritage. It would offer a clearer lens through which to see the entire world. Let us drop food and knowledge‚ not bombs. Chase Iron Eyes claimed American should thank the "Native nations" for most of their food and even...the interstate highway system? Give thanks to the Native nations who created the world that we inherit today. Learn that 60 percent of all food consumed to this day was discovered‚ bioengineered‚ and/or cultivated by Indigenous cultures in the Americas‚ including corn‚ beans‚ squash‚ and tomatoes‚” he said. “’American’ democracy itself was derived from observations of the Iroquois confederacy. The interstate highways and trail systems trace Indigenous trade routes. Anesthetics‚ rubber‚ sunglasses‚ kayaks‚ canoes‚ plant medicines‚ oral contraceptives‚ and paleo‚ organic‚ and non-GMO lifestyles derive from Indigenous practices. We need to "drop the lie" of Thanksgiving:  Thanksgiving is a lie in the same way Manifest Destiny is a lie: This continent was not a pristine‚ empty land that had yet to be put to “profitable” use in the ways “civilized” extractive alien economies defined it. November is already Native American Heritage Month. Thanksgiving could be something better: a day to appreciate the truth of American history and Native Americans’ contributions to our lives. Let’s tell a different story by dropping the lie of Thanksgiving and begin a Truthsgiving. How leftist is Mr. Iron Eyes? Here's a recent tweet to demonstrate he still thinks the U.S. is an evil regime dealing out death:  pic.twitter.com/eBzPKJwmlt — Chase Iron Eyes (@ChaseIronEyes) November 4‚ 2023

For Thanksgiving‚ The Boston Globe Serves Up Trump—The Turkey Killer

For Thanksgiving‚ The Boston Globe Serves Up Trump—The Turkey Killer

On this day of Thanksgiving‚ the Boston Globe has rendered itself the newspaper equivalent of the crotchety liberal uncle at the table‚ perhaps with one too many celebratory libations under the belt‚ spewing his political bile. As its cartoon du jour‚ the Globe chose the one you see here: a vengeful Trump on his way to the tree stump‚ axe at the ready‚ to dispatch the turkey. And in turn‚ the turkey is regretting having rejected Biden because of his age.   For the record‚ not only is the cartoon utterly not in keeping with the spirit of the day‚ it is also ahistorical. Just like Biden and presidents before him‚ Donald Trump also pardoned turkeys during his time in the White House. But it's neatly in line with Joe Scarborough wildly claiming Trump will "execute" enemies if he gains a second term. The truly vengeful actor in this scenario is the cartoon "artist" Christopher Weyant himself. Weyant‚ whose regular gig is with The New Yorker‚ is clearly a Trump hater par excellence‚ as another of his cartoons‚ seen below‚ makes clear. In Weyant's imagination‚ Trump's bathroom reading includes Hitler's "Mein Kampf‚" and the toilet paper is composed of the Constitution. Subtle! NewsBusters wishes all its readers a happy‚ meaningful‚ and turkey-filled Thanksgiving. And even if Aunt Thelma's jello mold with mandarin orange pieces isn't your favorite holiday dish‚ make her feel good and have a hearty portion!   PS: Also Weyant on Trump.

I built a gaming PC for the price of a PS5‚ and this happened

The gaming industry is bigger than ever — worth hundreds of billions of dollars globally — and gamers have access to a whole host of devices to indulge their hobby. But there's one debate that rages on regardless of how far the industry's come: gaming PC versus console. Of course‚ both have their advantages: a PC is customizable and upgradeable whereas a console provides great pound-for-pound value without the need for any technical knowhow. This oft-quoted strength of the humble console got me thinking: can you build a PC to match the performance of a PS5 without exceeding the Sony console's $500 asking price? Well‚ here's your answer‚ and more besides. Continue reading I built a gaming PC for the price of a PS5‚ and this happened MORE FROM PCGAMESN: Best graphics card‚ Best gaming PC‚ Best SSD for gaming
