Trump Fined $350+ Million In Civil Business Fraud Trial‚ Banned From Doing Business In NY For 3 Years

Former President Donald Trump was fined hundreds of millions of dollars in a civil fraud trial on Friday and was banned from running his businesses in the state for three years. Judge Arthur Engoron ordered the former president and the Trump Organization pay more than $350 million in damages. The controversial judge banned Trump from serving in top roles at any company in the state for three years and extended the punishment for a two-year period to both of his sons and ordered that they both pay more than $4 million. Other former top executives at the Trump Organization were also banned from “serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or other legal entity in New York for a period of three years.” Trump will almost certainly appeal the ruling and will likely ask an appeals court to pause restrictions that stop the family from running the business while the court evaluates the case. The New York Times noted‚ however‚ that one of the judge’s rulings might be hard to get tossed: extending the court’s Independent Monitor oversight at the company for three years to watch for alleged suspicious activity. The report noted that the monitor‚ Barbara Jones‚ has already cost the organization millions of dollars. New York Democrat Attorney General Letitia James claimed that Trump victimized lenders inflating his net worth to obtain more favorable terms from the lenders and that they would have made more money had Trump not allegedly inflated his net worth. The ruling comes after writer E. Jean Carroll was awarded $83 million from Trump earlier this year in a defamation case. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP The former president‚ who is on the verge of officially wrapping up the Republican Party’s presidential nomination‚ also faces four criminal cases‚ including a federal case over his handling of classified material‚ a federal case over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election‚ a case in Fulton County over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election‚ and a case from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office over his alleged hush money payments to an adult film star.

‘Your Mask Indeed Brings Great Fortune’: Jason Kelce Promises To Reunite Young Fan With Mask

Jason Kelce promised to reunite a young fan with his luchador mask after the Chiefs fan spotted Kelce wearing the mask in numerous videos from Las Vegas while out celebrating Kansas City’s Super Bowl LVIII victory on Sunday. The Philadelphia Eagles center on Friday took to X and wrote to his hundreds of thousands of followers that “Operation ‘Get Elijah His Mask Back’ is underway!” It came after he said he was made aware of NBC DFW’s story regarding the owner of the mask‚ 8th grader Elijah Smith‚ hoping to get it back. “I appreciate everyone bringing this [story] to my attention‚ and look forward to uniting Elijah with his mask once again‚” Kelce wrote. “Your mask indeed brings great fortune‚ I owe you big time‚ sorry it was commandeered.” Kelce — brother of Chief’s star Travis Kelce — included a picture in his post showing a photo of him wearing the yellow and red luchador mask standing next to Elijah at a Super Bowl celebration. Operation “Get Elijah His Mask Back” is underway! I appreciate everyone bringing this to my attention‚ and look forward to uniting Elijah with his mask once again. Your mask indeed brings great fortune‚ I owe you big time‚ sorry it was commandeered https://t.co/HHazKInFRi — Jason Kelce (@JasonKelce) February 16‚ 2024 The post has since gone viral with more than 1.2 million views it at the time of this publication. On Sunday‚ pictures and videos surfaced on social media of the Eagles star wearing the mask while out celebrating with his brother and Taylor Swift following the Chiefs 25-22 victory against the San Francisco 49ers. Smith and his parents spoke to the NBC outlet on Thursday and talked about how he would like his “lucky” mask back because Kelce inadvertently walked away with it after they took the photo together. They said the mask was lucky because Elijah wore it to the 2023 Super Bowl and the Chiefs won and he again wore it to this year’s Super Bowl where the team was victorious. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “I gave him my mask and then he dropped it and then picked it back up‚” Smith told the outlet. “Then I got a picture with him wearing it and then I just hung out next to them for five to 10 minutes‚ they were dancing and everything.” Smith said he and his friend tried to catch up to Jason‚ but it was loud and very crowded. “I saw videos on Instagram this week of him wearing it at the next after-party he went to‚ so he clearly never took it off the whole night‚” Smith added. Elijah’s father Thad Smith told NBC‚ “The only thing is‚ Jason if you’re listening‚ we just need the mask back before the season starts. Because it’s a lucky mask‚ and so the Chiefs need the luck. I’m sorry we’re not Eagles fans.” Elijah said the mask has a huge autograph on the side from Chief’s player Trent McDuffie so he would really like it back‚ adding that “it would be pretty cool if he [Kelce] autographed it” before he sent it back.

RNC Recognizes New Michigan GOP Leader; Ousted Chair Remains Defiant

The months-long chaos surrounding the Michigan Republican Party finally showed signs of abating as the Republican National Committee on Wednesday officially ruled that Kristina Karamo was properly removed from her position as chair and Pete Hoekstra is the rightful leader of the state party. The fight within the Michigan GOP stems from criticism over Karamo’s fundraising strategy‚ failure to address the party’s debt‚ and surrounding herself with questionable advisers. Hoekstra‚ the former ambassador to the Netherlands under Donald Trump‚ released a statement on Wednesday acknowledging the RNC’s decision and asking Karamo to end her attempts to remain as chair of the party‚ The Detroit News reported. “Both the RNC and our party’s presumptive nominee Donald Trump have now come forward and recognized me as the duly elected chair of the Michigan Republican Party‚” Hoekstra said in a statement Wednesday. “It is time for the former chair who was properly removed in accordance with the MIGOP bylaws to end her misinformation campaign.” For Karamo‚ however‚ the fight isn’t over. She said on Thursday that she remains the chair of the state party and called the RNC “completely corrupt.” “I’m still legally the chair‚” Karamo said. “The majority of the (Michigan Republican Party’s state) committee stands with me.” The GOP civil war in Michigan could bleed into the party’s presidential caucuses‚ which are set to take place on March 2 after the Democratic National Committee agreed to move up Michigan’s primary date to February 27‚ conflicting with RNC rules. Delegates will now be awarded in both the Republican primary on February 27 and the caucuses on March 2. On Thursday‚ county Republican parties held conventions to elect delegates who will caucus for the GOP’s presidential nomination. According to The Detroit News‚ many Michigan Republicans expect Karamo’s supporters to push for another vote on party chair at the March 2 caucuses in Detroit. Last month‚ nearly 90% of the Michigan GOP committee members who gathered for a special meeting voted to remove Karamo as the party chair and elected Hoekstra to take her place. But Karamo‚ along with a band of loyal supporters‚ refused to step down and held that those who voted to remove her had no authority to do so. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Trump threw his support behind Hoekstra as Michigan GOP chair at the end of January‚ saying he is looking forward “to working with Ambassador Pete Hoekstra as Chairman of The Republican Party of Michigan.” Karamo’s claim that she still holds a majority of the support within the Michigan GOP is the crux of her argument to remain as chair. While many of the 107 GOP committee members voted in favor of keeping Karamo during a gathering on January 13‚ those opposed to her leadership and the RNC hold that she was successfully removed from her position on January 6‚ making her special meeting a week later null and void. One of the main criticisms of Karamo’s leadership was her handling of the party’s finances after former chair of the 9th district‚ Warren Carpenter‚ revealed shocking information about the Michigan GOP’s financial instability. Months before a vital 2024 election‚ the Michigan GOP went into debt and defaulted on a half-a-million-dollar loan. To make matters worse‚ one of the party’s main fundraising events didn’t raise any money for the Michigan GOP in 2023. Related: Inside The GOP Civil War In Michigan

Republican Governor Declares State Of Emergency Over Police Officer Shortage

Republican Governor Declares State Of Emergency Over Police Officer Shortage

Governor Jeff Landry (R-LA) declared a state of emergency in Louisiana on Friday over a shortage of law enforcement officers in the state. Landry made the declaration in an executive order that comes just days before the legislature will meet for a special session on crime‚ which the governor said will focus on strengthening the criminal justice system and repealing soft-on-crime policies. According to the Louisiana Sheriffs Association‚ there is a shortage of 1‚800 deputies as of July 2023. “As a former police officer and sheriff’s deputy‚ I understand the vital role our law enforcement officers play in our communities. Currently‚ our state is facing a shortage of officers‚ resulting in increased crime and less public safety. Today’s executive order‚ and the upcoming crime special session‚ will ensure our law enforcement officers are supported and we can begin to bring law and order back to our state‚” Landry said. Landry’s order comes as cities around the country have struggled to retain police officers and recruit amid increasing crime and a push by some activists to “Defund the Police.” Some entities are even considering letting non-citizens join the ranks of the police. The executive order says that the “national police officer shortage has affected Louisiana with departments experiencing record-low employment and an increase in police officer response times resulting in an increased threat to the lives‚ property‚ and safety of persons within the state of Louisiana.” The Louisiana Sheriff’s Association praised the executive order‚ saying that it highlighted “the importance of the law enforcement profession and our state’s desperate need to fill valuable front line deputy positions.” During the special session‚ Landry wants the legislature to look at restricting parole eligibility‚ expanding the criteria to revoke parole and probation‚ increasing penalties for carjackings‚ upgrading illegal use of weapons to the violent crime category‚ granting immunity under certain conditions to peace officers‚ and creating a criminal offense for the marketing of fentanyl to minors. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “This special session begins to fulfill the campaign promises we made to the people of Louisiana to make our State Safe Again. No one‚ regardless of their neighborhood or zip code‚ should feel unsafe. We all want safer communities‚” Landry said. “We will defend and uplift our law enforcement officials and deliver true justice to crime victims who have been overlooked for far too long.” New Orleans‚ whose police force Landry previously said was in “shambles‚” consistently ranks as one of the most violent cities in America. Landry took office in January after his election in October flipped control of the governor’s mansion in after promising to crack down on crime in the state.

Cellist Med Student Gives Up NYC Subway Performances After Assaulted Twice In One Year

A young cellist and medical student will no longer perform his music in New York City Subway stations after being assaulted for the second time in less than a year. The victim — Iain Forrest‚ an MD-PhD student studying genetics — was playing his electric cello in the 34th Street–Herald Square station when a female bystander stepped forward‚ grabbed his metal water bottle‚ and struck him once on the back of the head before fleeing. Forrest explained in a viral X thread that this was the second assault he’s endured in under a year‚ a pattern that he says has prompted him to stop such public performances. “This marks the second attack I’ve endured in less than a year while performing for New Yorkers in subway stations‚” said Forrest. “I don’t think I can do this anymore. I’m suspending subway performances indefinitely.” Yesterday‚ I was attacked in the NYC subway. At 5:50 pm on February 14th‚ while performing at 34th St Herald Square station‚ a woman wearing a mustard jacket‚ red scarf‚ and gloves assaulted me by smashing the back of my head with my metal water bottle. pic.twitter.com/UpSl43yk3x — Iain S. Forrest‚ PhD (@IainSForrest) February 14‚ 2024 Forrest reported that his assailant fled into a nearby store following the attack‚ successfully evading pursuers and police by shedding her outer garments. New York Police Department (NYPD) Crime Stoppers posted another angle of Forrest’s assailant in which her scarf doesn’t cover her face. NYPD offered a reward of up to $3‚500 for tips leading to her arrest and indictment. 🚨WANTED🚨for an ASSAULT in the mezzanine inside of the 34th Street/ Herald Square station #heraldsquare #manhattan On 2/13/24 @ 7:47 PM Reward up to $3500 Seen her? In the same time period last year‚ there were 99 reported incidents of grand larceny‚ 58 felony assaults‚ 57 robberies‚ one burglary‚ one murder‚ and one rape. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA)‚ which runs the New York City Subway‚ reported a total of over 4‚900 complaints last year: nearly 2‚300 of those were classified as assaults. There were less than 900 arrests reported for assault last year. Last year’s totals were an increase from 2022‚ in which NYCTA reported over 4‚700 complaints‚ with just over 2‚000 of those classified as assaults. There were fewer than 700 arrests reported for assault in 2022. Data from Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA)‚ NYCTA’s affiliate‚ covering felonies across all of its transportation modes — busing and commuter rail‚ in addition to the subway — revealed that felony assaults increased to 642 last year‚ up from totals in the prior four years: 586 in 2022‚ 498 in 2021‚ 368 in 2020‚ and 395 in 2019. Burglaries remained high at 39 reported incidents last year‚ up from 22 in 2022 and the same as the totals for 2021 and 2020‚ all up from the 18 incidents reported in 2019. Other MTA data specific to the subway revealed that assaults on subway workers totaled 80 last year‚ nearly double the totals for 2022‚ 2021‚ and 2020: for all three years‚ assaults totaled 45. Other crimes have increased as well. MTA has reported a marked increase in subway vandalism incidents from 2021 (484) to 2022 (755) and 2023 (650). Subway fires remained fairly consistent‚ totaling over 1‚000 over the last three years‚ an uptick from the 900 reported incidents in 2020.
