Anrik tidning describes Sweden as Europe's capital for gun murder
Published 5/24/2023
The venerable American business newspaper The Wall Street Journal is the latest in an increasingly long line of foreign media to write about Sweden's decline, from one of the world's safest and most peaceful countries to Europe's worst and a discouraging example.
How Peaceful Sweden Became Europe's Gun-Murder Capital is the title of The Wall Street Journal's article , and the subtitle Scandinavia's answer to Pablo Escobar orchestrates much of the growing violence from Turkey, referring to gang leader Rawa Majid, best known as the "Kurdish Fox".

Sweden's murder rate is described as extraordinary in a European context, where the number of gun murders in Stockholm last year was approximately 30 times higher per capita than London's.
The newspaper states that the perpetrators are getting younger and are using increasingly violent tactics such as using hand grenades and placing bombs.

Furthermore, the Sweden Democrats' success in the last election is explained by the fact that the shootings mainly take place among immigrants.
Lost control
Manne Gerell, associate professor of criminology at Malmö University with expertise in organized crime, tells the newspaper that the problem is due to poor integration and that it has been exacerbated by years of inadequate response from authorities, police and politicians.
The government admits that they have lost control.
- Compared internationally, we have had a much more lax criminal law. And we have now lost control of the situation, says Daniel Bergström, advisor to Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M)
