Bob Bauer‚ the personal lawyer for President Joe Biden‚ claimed during an interview over the weekend that Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on Biden’s handling of classified material was a “shoddy” piece of work that contained numerous “misstatements of fact” from Hur’s interview with Biden‚ yet when pressed‚ he declined to call for the release of the interview transcript which could potentially validate his claims. Hur found during the criminal investigation that Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials‚” but argued for no charges to be brought because Biden had serious cognitive issues — including not remembering when his son died or when he served as vice president in the Obama administration. Hur concluded that a jury would view Biden as “a sympathetic‚ well-meaning‚ elderly man with a poor memory.” “This is a report that went off the rails. It’s shabby work product‚” Bauer claimed about the report. “The investigation could have been concluded in two or three months. It went on for over 15 months. And so along with the legal conclusion comes this flood of characterizations‚ factual misstatements‚ pejorative comments about the president that are inconsistent with DOJ policy and norms‚ and that‚ as you see over the last 48 hours‚ have been widely criticized by legal experts. This is not what prosecutors do. It is shoddy work product.” Bauer claimed that there were “misstatements of fact” in the report from Biden’s interview with Hur and claimed Hur’s legal analysis was “totally inappropriate.” He also claimed that Biden was “engaged with the questions very directly” during the interview and that he was “compelling and forceful” in his testimony. Brennan then asked Bauer if he was in favor of getting the transcripts from the interview declassified so they could be released to the public. “I’m not a specialist in that process‚” he said. “And so I really have to defer to those who have to work through those issues.” Biden held a press conference late Thursday night in an attempt to demonstrate his mental fitness but instead exploded at reporters who pointed out voters’ concerns about his age and declared that he was the most qualified person in America to be president. During the event‚ Biden mixed up the presidents of Egypt and Mexico‚ forgot the name of the church where his deceased son got the rosary that he wears every day‚ and forgot key details from the special counsel’s report. Brennan asked about the press conference and asked if Biden had memory problems. “He does not‚” Bauer claimed as he proceeded to talk about the special counsel and ignore the numerous mistakes that Biden made during the press conference. Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley committed to taking a mental competency test over the weekend and called on President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump to take one as well. Haley‚ who is polling far behind Trump in the Republican Party presidential primary‚ made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Margaret Brennan on CBS News’s “Face The Nation.” “So‚ Ambassador‚ you have made mental acuity a signature issue for your campaign for the better part of the past year‚” Brennan said. “You’re handing out paper copies now of a cognitive assessment.” “When do you plan to take it?” Brennan asked. “And are you at all concerned that you might turn off some older voters?” Haley responded‚ “I have no problem taking it. And what I have said is‚ we need to have mental competency tests for anyone over the age of 75. I don’t care if we do it for 50 and up. It’s insulting to military families. And the part that bothers me is‚ he continues to do this. This isn’t personal about me and Michael. This is about what it says to every member who sacrifices for us‚” she said. “This is about what it says to every military family who sacrifices alongside of them. We can’t have someone who sits there and mocks our men and women who are trying to protect America. It’s a pattern. It’s a pattern of chaos. It’s a pattern of irresponsibility. It’s a pattern of just saying things that are not helpful in strengthening America.” “And this is a chance. America’s going to get to decide. We know what Donald Trump is. The Democrat-led Senate pressed ahead on Sunday with a $95 billion foreign aid package that dropped a controversial border security and immigration reform deal that was originally included in it. Senators voted 40-53 to defeat a motion from Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)‚ which he said was meant to facilitate consideration of amendments‚ after which lawmakers again broke the 60-vote filibuster threshold in a 67-27 cloture vote‚ setting the stage for what could be a final vote this week. The legislation aims to provide funds to Ukraine‚ Israel‚ Taiwan‚ and other foreign priorities — including humanitarian aid — and excludes border security provisions put together by a bipartisan group of negotiators that resulted in a hybrid bill that was ultimately rejected by a group of Republicans and leftist senators last week. Although there may yet be amendments taken up for consideration‚ Lee warned that offerings from himself and other GOP senators — such as amendments that seek to tighten asylum laws‚ require proof of citizenship to vote‚ and make other changes to beef up border security and immigration laws — may not even get a shot. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has been sent back to the hospital‚ the Pentagon announced on Sunday‚ the latest wrinkle in a health controversy that began last month over the Cabinet official’s secretive hospitalization for complications following a procedure to treat prostate cancer. “Today‚ at approximately 2:20 p.m.‚ Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III was transported by his security detail to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to be seen for symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue‚” Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement. “The Deputy Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff have been notified. Additionally‚ White House and Congressional notifications have occurred‚” Ryder added. “At this time‚ the Secretary is retaining the functions and duties of his office‚” Ryder said. “The Deputy Secretary is prepared to assume the functions and duties of the Secretary of Defense‚ if required. Secretary Austin traveled to the hospital with the unclassified and classified communications systems necessary to perform his duties.” Ryder concluded by saying the Pentagon will provide an update on Austin’s condition as “soon as possible.” Austin‚ 70‚ faced blowback after the revelation that the secretary had been hospitalized on January 1 for complications stemming from a prostate cancer procedure and delegated some of his duties to a deputy without informing top brass in the Biden administration and Congress. Some critics‚ including GOP lawmakers and former President Donald Trump‚ called for Austin’s ouster as more details emerged‚ including that Austin kept his cancer diagnosis under wraps until the story broke. Multiple inquiries ensued‚ and the White House released new guidelines for Cabinet secretaries to enhance transparency rules when authority is delegated to a subordinate. The Department of Defense said Austin resumed his duties from home after being released from the hospital on January 15‚ and the secretary returned to work at the Pentagon on January 29. Austin has been scheduled to testify before a House committee about “his failure to disclose his hospitalization” on February 29. During a press conference earlier this month‚ Austin expressed remorse for how his cancer diagnosis and hospitalization were handled. “We did not handle this right‚ and I did not handle this right‚” Austin said. “I should’ve told the president about my cancer diagnosis. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said during an interview over the that he and President Joe Biden were not responsible for the illegal alien crisis that has exploded as a direct result of Biden’s open border policies. Mayorkas made the claim during a Sunday NBC News interview with Kristen Welker on “Meet The Press” as he is on the verge of making history as the first cabinet secretary to be impeached in nearly 150 years. Mayorkas claimed that allegations that the administration was “willfully” not enforcing immigration laws were “baseless‚” but he could not say how. The segment comes as more illegal aliens have entered the U.S. through the southern border than at any other time in U.S. history. “You yourself have said that more than 85% of migrants caught crossing the border illegally are being released into the U.S. as they await their court dates‚” Welker said. “Why do you deserve to keep your job‚ Mr. Secretary?” Mayorkas did not answer the question and instead blamed Congress for the problem‚ even though the problem exploded the moment that Biden took office. “But do you bear responsibility for what is happening at the border‚ what the president himself has called a crisis?” Welker asked. After previously refusing to call the situation a crisis‚ Mayorkas said now that it “certainly is a crisis‚” but added: “we don’t bear responsibility for a broken system‚ and we’re doing a tremendous amount within that broken system.
