President Emmanuel Macron, during a crisis meeting on Friday, singled out two things that could be behind the immigrant riots: social media and computer games.

- Social media platforms have played a significant role in the events of recent days, Macron said, singling out Tiktok and Snapchat in particular as problematic platforms that need more censorship.

On these platforms, videos from the riots have been widely distributed, which the liberal president now wants to put an end to.

According to Macron, social media is not only helping rioters to organize. They also make young people want to "imitate" the behavior they see.

According to the president, these young people have lost their grip on reality because of what they see on social media and the computer games they play.

- It sometimes feels like some of them on the street are reliving the video games that intoxicated them, he said.
