Hamas tunnels under UN agency in Gaza

FOREIGN. The Israeli Defense Forces have found one of Hamas's tunnel systems with a secret control center under the UN agency UNRWA's headquarters in Gaza City, Reuters reports.


The system is about 700 meters long and moves at a depth of 18 meters. There should be, among other things, offices and data servers.

- This is one of the central intelligence headquarters. This place belongs to Hamas's intelligence units, where they directed most of the fighting, said an Israeli Defense Force spokesperson.

Before Israel showed up, Hamas reportedly abandoned the tunnels and cut cables that ran to the facility, according to Reuters.

In January, information emerged indicating that UNRWA employees participated in the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on 7 October. Sweden and several other countries then paused their payments to UNRWA.
