Young immigrants very negative about defending Sweden

DOMESTIC. A clear majority of immigrants who come from non-Nordic countries "can't imagine" doing military service for Sweden, recent figures show.

Subsidies, benefits and high wages for unqualified jobs are among the factors that attract immigrants from the third world to Sweden. But when young immigrants of non-Nordic descent find out that they may have to do Swedish military service, the attitude towards the Swedish system is suddenly very negative, reports SVT.

32 percent of immigrants believe that conscription provides "little or no opportunity at all" for personal development, compared to only 18 percent among Swedes.

53 percent of immigrants "cannot imagine doing military service", according to SVT, compared to 38 percent "for the total". How low the percentage who cannot imagine doing military service is among Swedes is something that SVT does not want to say, but it should be around 18 percent.

Swedish news gives faulse report about the weather

The media hoax: "60 degrees in Spain"

MEDIA. A long line of media have recently reported that temperatures of 60 degrees have been measured in Spain. If you read more carefully, however, you discover that this is about the ground temperature - which is significantly higher than the air temperature.

"Extreme heat sweeps across Europe - 60 degrees in Spain," read, for example, a headline on Sveriges Radio's website on Thursday.

In the state media giant's article, one could read about "60 degrees measured in the Spanish interior".

After criticism - including from the Mediegranskaren blog - SR has changed both the headline and the wording. Now it appears that the 60 degrees concerned the ground temperature and not the temperature in the air. However, why people suddenly start reporting on ground temperatures is not explained.

The same news has been reported in a similar way in countless international media.
