Ryan Reynolds and Paramount Pictures Working on Adaptation of John Scalzi’s Starter Villain

News Starter Villain Ryan Reynolds and Paramount Pictures Working on Adaptation of John Scalzi’s Starter Villain By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on February 8‚ 2024 icon-comment 0 Share New Share Twitter Facebook Pinterest RSS Feed We got some exciting adaptation news buried in a Deadline post about some business shakings in Hollywood. The article is centered around the story that Ryan Reynolds’ production company‚ Maximum Effort‚ has renewed its first look deal with Paramount Pictures.  The last paragraph‚ however‚ shares that Maximum Entertainment and Paramount are working on an adaptation of John Scalzi’s Starter Villain‚ with Jesse Andrews‚ whose previous credits include Pixar’s Luca and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‚ on board to pen the script. Starter Villain came out in September 2023 and‚ in addition to having one of the best covers in recent history (check it out above)‚ is described thusly on Goodreads: Inheriting your uncle’s supervillain business is more complicated than you might think. Particularly when you discover who’s running the place. Charlie’s life is going nowhere fast. A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell‚ all he wants is to open a pub downtown‚ if only the bank will approve his loan. Then his long-lost uncle Jake dies and leaves his supervillain business (complete with island volcano lair) to Charlie. But becoming a supervillain isn’t all giant laser death rays and lava pits. Jake had enemies‚ and now they’re coming after Charlie. His uncle might have been a stand-up‚ old-fashioned kind of villain‚ but these are the real thing: rich‚ soulless predators backed by multinational corporations and venture capital. It’s up to Charlie to win the war his uncle started against a league of supervillains. But with unionized dolphins‚ hyperintelligent talking spy cats‚ and a terrifying henchperson at his side‚ going bad is starting to look pretty good.In a dog-eat-dog world… be a cat. I confess that I haven’t read Starter Villain (yet)‚ but the idea of Reynolds potentially playing Charlie (something that admittedly is far from confirmed) and talking to hyperintelligent spy cats is exciting. No news yet on if/when this project will make it to the production stage‚ but fingers crossed we’ll see this on the big screen in the near future. Earpers‚ Rejoice! Wynonna Earp Is Coming Back in a Feature Special

News Wynonna Earp Earpers‚ Rejoice! Wynonna Earp Is Coming Back in a Feature Special By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on February 8‚ 2024 icon-comment 0 Share New Share Twitter Facebook Pinterest RSS Feed Fans of Wynonna Earp were devastated when SYFY canceled the series after its fourth season back in 2021. The supernatural‚ weird Western show centered around the titular Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano‚ who Trekkies will recognize as Captain Batel on Strange New Worlds)‚ her sister Waverly‚ Waverly’s wife Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell)‚ and Wynonna’s on-and-off again beau‚ Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon)‚ is an entertaining watch‚ full of queer joy‚ bar fights‚ and vampires. The show’s creator Emily Andras as well as the actors have publicly said they wanted to bring the gang back together for a proper ending to the series‚ and‚ as Vanity Fair reports‚ it looks like Andras has done so‚ writing a ninety-minute feature tentatively titled Wynonna Earp: Vengeance‚ that will be available on Tubi sometime later this year. Paolo Barzman‚ who directed several episodes of the show‚ is on board to direct the scripted special‚ which will soon start shooting in Calgary. Andras and the cast got on a Zoom call to discuss the return (you can see that on the Vanity Fair link above)‚ and shared their excitement. “There are definitely some nerves‚ but it’s kind of muddled with this ecstasy and excitement of actually putting on Waverly’s shoes again‚” Provost-Chalkley said on the Zoom. “I haven’t been on set since we left‚ so that’s going to be a whole thing‚ just to reconnect with that world. But I keep telling myself that if there’s any group that I want to do that with‚ it’s this family.” [end-mark] The post Earpers‚ Rejoice! <;i>;Wynonna Earp<;/i>; Is Coming Back in a Feature Special appeared first on Reactor.

The Gang’s All Here—Thanks to Biden’s Open Border: The BorderLine

Have you heard of the Tren de Aragua‚ a Venezuelan criminal gang? Maybe not‚ but this is “the little engine that could” that may bring your quiet American neighborhood some dangerous young men with little to contribute and even less to lose. Joseph Humire‚ an expert on Latin American security‚ calls the Tren “the fastest-growing transnational criminal organization in the world.” Last year‚ the Tren de Aragua didn’t even make the Border Patrol’s “Nationwide Apprehensions by Gang Affiliation‚” an alphabetical list of 50 Central and South American gangs invading the United States—from the Angelino Heights Sureno 13 to the Zetas. But with 47‚000 Venezuelans caught entering the U.S. at the southern border last December alone—27‚000 of them single adults—the Tren is on track to make the list soon. With President Joe Biden’s opening of our national borders‚ gang foot soldiers can enter from Mexico or Canada with ease. Or they can apply for Biden’s bogus parole schemes‚ which let in another 50‚000 or so illegal aliens a month. The Tren is reportedly active everywhere from Atlanta to Chicago to Washington‚ D.C. When police raided a prison reportedly controlled by inmates from the Tren in Tocorón‚ Venezuela‚ last year‚ they found “a zoo‚ nightclub‚ swimming pools‚ and a children’s playground.” It’s not so fancy in New York City‚ but at least illegal alien gang members there get free housing in luxury hotels‚ free meals‚ free laundry‚ and now‚ prepaid debit cards‚ thanks to taxpayers. According to the FBI‚ “The gang capitalizes on its Venezuelan community” in El Paso‚ Texas‚ primarily engaging in human smuggling and sex trafficking. Foreign gangs‚ from the Italian Mafia on down‚ always start with victimizing their own people‚ making money from extortion‚ prostitution‚ and drugs. But then they spread out. Recently‚ a group of young‚ male illegal immigrants attacked two New York City police officers who had tried to stop them from stealing from a local store. They were part of a “wolfpack of violent shoplifters” who steal in the city and then leave for Florida and other states to enjoy the proceeds‚ according to the New York Post. The perpetrators are believed to be Venezuelans who crossed the southern border illegally‚ and there are indications they are members of the Tren de Aragua. This being prosecutor Alvin Bragg’s soft-on-crime New York City‚ the few perpetrators police managed to arrest were soon released on cashless bail. Four others conned a local migrant charity into giving them tickets out west. Just as they gave fake names to score the bus tickets‚ they likely gave fake names to the border authorities who originally “processed” and quickly released them into the country. Reports that they were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Phoenix proved premature—those were just other illegal aliens traveling freely around the U.S. With so many millions out there‚ who can keep track? The Tren is following in the footsteps of other foreign gangs already here. The violent MS-13‚ based in El Salvador‚ is all over the U.S. This brutal outfit challenges its members to murder innocents to climb in status. In 2016‚ five MS-13 members stabbed a 14- and a 17-year-old to death in a suburban park in Alexandria‚ Virginia. Six more MS-13 gang members were just convicted of a string of random murders in 2019‚ also in Northern Virginia. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas likes to tell us that illegal migrants are carefully vetted before being released into our communities‚ but that’s just not true. When a young man presents himself at the border to be “processed” and then sent—with your tax money—to the city of his choice‚ our law enforcement doesn’t know who he is unless he already has some U.S. record. No matter how bad he is‚ if he’s never been here before‚ he won’t. Time was when gang members were dumb enough to tattoo themselves in ways that U.S. authorities could identify them‚ but the wiseguys wised up. Border Patrol can only write down the names and identity information given to them by the aliens or available in documents they have on their person. If illegal aliens suspected to be gang members have no documents and give fake names‚ U.S. agents have no way to verify the information other than calling Venezuelan officials. The sheer numbers being caught and released preclude doing that each time‚ and besides‚ the U.S. and Venezuela have frosty relations. The Nicolas Maduro regime has no incentive to tell us anything that’s not in their own self-interest. Biden’s open-border policies have let in as many as 8 million illegal immigrants since he took office. They tend to be younger‚ and more often male. In general‚ men are much more likely to be violent than women‚ and young people commit more crime than older people. One study of recidivism showed that within 10 years‚ around 80% of criminals reoffended‚ and those who did averaged 5.4 arrests each during that time. Even assuming average prevailing rates of criminality among illegal aliens released at the border‚ let alone greater rates due to criminals knowingly coming here for opportunity or to flee justice‚ we’re in for a sustained wave of crime. U.S. cities and towns will experience additional cases‚ from shoplifting to murder‚ that could have been prevented if our borders had been secure. In the New York City precinct where the Venezuelans attacked those two police officers‚ grand larceny was up over 83% last year over 2022. Perhaps not unconnected‚ another group of violent thieves‚ led by another Venezuelan illegal immigrant‚ “predominantly live in the migrant shelter system‚” according to New York police‚ and ventured out to commit up to 150 thefts in the vicinity. Though many illegal immigrants sensibly keep their noses clean‚ the Department of Justice reported in 2018—before Biden’s current mass releases at the border—that 64% of federal arrests involved “noncitizens‚ despite them comprising only 7% of the population at that time.” If anyone wonders why the House of Representatives is intent on impeaching Mayorkas‚ this is one good reason. He swore an oath to protect the nation against foreign threats‚ but instead‚ he’s willfully exposed us to them. The BorderLine is a weekly Daily Signal feature examining everything from the unprecedented illegal immigration crisis at the border to immigration’s impact on cities and states throughout the land. We will also shed light on other critical border-related issues like human trafficking‚ drug smuggling‚ terrorism‚ and more. WHO Report Proposes Working With Social Media Providers and Law Enforcement To Control “Disinformation”

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties‚ subscribe to Reclaim The Net. The United Nations (UN) in general has in the past years proved to be a fine yet unfortunate example of the degradation of an institution that was conceived as an international forum for settling disputes and establishing cooperation and mutual trust between countries – without denting their sovereignty or agency. Yet from that‚ it has been turning into another “brick in the globalist wall” – instead of providing a level playing field and ensuring trust‚ the UN is prostrating itself and its various agencies – these last years very notably the WHO (World Health Organization) – before the global agendas. Therefore‚ it’s really unsurprising that the World Health Organization continues to dabble in online information suppression and even censorship‚ and keeps talking about “disinformation.” As well‚ a recent WHO statement gives away that the UN wouldn’t mind following in the footsteps of governments who collude with Big Tech. After all‚ the UN has been pejoratively referred to as “the world government.” These days‚ WHO’s top-of-mind goes this way‚ as per the post. It’s not the actual health issues‚ but – “cyber-attacks on health care (and) disinformation.” And these are treated as “health security risks.” So‚ not health risks – but “health security risks.” There is also talk about “enhancing cyber-maturity.” It will be a cold day in hell before most people catch up with corporate/globalist newspeak anyway‚ but this time in a post on the WHO blog‚ the agency at least listed everyone involved in this curious endeavor. It’s no less that Interpol (a global police organization)‚ the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)‚ the UN Office of Counter-terrorism‚ the UN International Computing Center (UNICC)‚ the UN Inter-regional Crime and Justice Research Institute‚ and the CyberPeace Institute. Wow. The post goes on to justify all this by asserting that during The pandemic‚ the IT infrastructure of healthcare institutions got targeted‚ apparently more so than usual. “Disinformation” is‚ strangely‚ not defined here as – well‚ disinformation. Instead‚ it’s – possibly more tellingly than the WHO would have liked it to come across – described as‚ “a weaponization of information.” And now for the proposed solutions. One is to raise awareness of disinformation and information manipulation (but does the WHO really want this‚ since its own activities just might get exposed as such?) Inevitably‚ we come to (Big Tech’s‚ really) promotion of “trusted sources of information and voices of authority; supporting fact-checking activities which include the use of fact-checking technologies and human fact-checkers.” As a matter of curiosity‚ here’s how the WHO post concludes: “The reports (from previously here listed UN agencies) justify the critical need to build multisectoral alliances that can harness the benefits of new technologies for improved health and well-being while facing constantly emerging threats.” Now – did some human actually write that globalist word salad? We’ll only find out by living and learning. And by keeping tuned. Mollie Hemingway: Big Tech Censorship‚ Election Interference Pose ‘Existential Threat’

Mollie Hemingway: Big Tech Censorship‚ Election Interference Pose ‘Existential Threat’

Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway torched Big Tech’s election interference campaign while testifying before Congress. In her opening testimony before the House Administration Committee Wednesday‚ Hemingway described some of the most palpable threats to American elections‚ including Big Tech censorship. She particularly called out Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg for his infamous “Zuckerbucks‚” or partisan funding of election offices. Just as Media Research Center has previously emphasized‚ Hemingway stressed that Big Tech censorship has become a menace to our democratic republic‚ particularly when social media and government collude to suppress speech. Hemingway explained that instead of an efficient and honest election system‚ “we now have lengthy election seasons that can last months prior to and even after Election Day.” She listed a lack of a secure chain of ballot custody‚ a partisan election administration‚ a biased press‚ a politicized justice system‚ and an effort to oust GOP candidate Donald Trump from the ballot and bankrupt him. But leftists also weaponize Big Tech‚ she emphasized. “Instead of a vibrant public square where Americans can debate issues and express their strongly held views‚ we have an elaborate Censorship Industrial Complex‚ where the government works hand-in-hand with tech oligarchs to suppress and blacklist debate on all the important issues that contribute to election outcomes‚” Hemingway summed it up. In fact‚ Hemingway herself has experienced this election-interfering censorship. “This is something I know firsthand because our government worked with tech companies to censor me for my election reporting‚” she said. Her experience is backed up by data. A Media Research Center poll found in November 2020 that 17 percent of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden’s voters would not have voted for him had they been aware of the president’s scandals that Big Tech and the legacy media censored. Hemingway added‚ “Allowing just one of these attacks to infect our electoral system would be a crisis. Allowing all of them at the same time is an existential threat to our system of self-government.” She then called out one specific Big Tech oligarch‚ Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg‚ whose “Zuckerbucks” she covered in her book Rigged: How the Media‚ Big Tech‚ and the Democrats Seized Our Elections.  “In the last presidential election‚ nonprofit groups with very strong ties to the Democrat Party and funded by one of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful men‚ Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg‚ took over government election offices‚ most notably in the Democrat areas of swing states.” Such efforts have increased since‚ Hemingway stated. Online censorship and “Zuckerbucks” remain a threat to American self-government. Conservatives are under attack. Contact your representatives and demand that Big Tech be held to account to mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency and an equal footing for conservatives. If you have been censored‚ contact us at the Media Research Center contact form‚ and help us hold Big Tech accountable.

MSNBC's Mike Barnicle Advises Biden How To 'Negate Republican Strength' On Border

Move over‚ Joe Scarborough! You're not the only MSNBCer acting as an adviser to Joe Biden. Enter Mike Barnicle! On today's Way Too Early‚ airing right before Morning Joe‚ anchor Jonathan Lemire was clearly worried about the Republicans' edge over Biden on the border issue‚ and looked to Barnicle for advice on how to reverse it. Lemire also works for Politico and back on January 29‚ their Politico Playbook newsletter asked the question "Can Dems flip the border script?" That's what Lemire is asking Barnicle.   LEMIRE: The American people are deeply concerned about immigration. They are. This has been‚ to this point‚ a winning issue for Republicans. Do you think‚ though‚ the Biden administration can change the narrative and make it one for‚ at least if not a help‚ it negates the Republican strength? BARNICLE: They could perhaps change part of the narrative by‚ again‚ if the president went to the border and took action‚ actually signed something physically‚ and the border patrol was enhanced with more personnel. If they address it that way. It could change the narrative. Barnicle went on to say that the problem with the border is that it's a "visible" issue: "The issue is visible to you here in New York City walking around. It'ss visible to you in Cambridge‚ Massachusetts. In Chicago‚ Illinois. Throughout the country‚ people can see what the collapse of the border has done to the environment." He mentioned the burden on schools and crime‚ well‚ "public safety." Many liberals would be perfectly happy if millions of illegal immigrants -- AKA undocumented Democrats -- continued to pour into our country. But the disaster that's causing is‚ unfortunately‚ visible to the American people. So‚ to "negate Republican strength" on the issue‚ it becomes a political imperative for Biden to be seen to be doing something about it. Note: Lemire began with a little gibe at the 80-year-old Barnicle‚ saying that he always has his finger on the pulse of America—and that he was thankful that Barnicle actually has a pulse! Since Lemire is so concerned about helping Biden‚ should he really be cracking longevity jokes about octogenarians? Here's the transcript.MSNBC Way Too Early 2/9/24 5:58 am ET   JONATHAN LEMIRE: Mike‚ I know you always have your finger on the pulse of what American people are thinking. We know that your pulse there‚ thankfully‚ I'm glad you have one. The American people are deeply concerned about immigration. They are. This has been‚ to this point‚ a winning issue for Republicans. Do you think‚ though‚ that the Biden administration can change the narrative and make it one‚ for‚ at least if not a help‚ at least negates the Republican strength? MIKE BARNICLE: Well‚ they could perhaps change part of the narrative by going‚ again‚ if the president went to the border and took action‚ actually signed something physically‚ and the border patrol was enhanced with more personnel. If they addressed it that way‚ that could change the narrative. The problem with the narrative about immigration is‚ it's a visible issue. The issue is visible to you here in New York City walking around. It'ss visible to you in Cambridge‚ Massachusetts. In Chicago‚ Illinois.  Throughout the country‚ people can see what the collapse of the border has done to the environment. And they can witness -- if you've got a young family‚ you can witness what has happened as more and more children of immigrants are put into public schools across America. The cost to cities to maintain public safety. All of it. All of it. It's right there.

Racial Revelations: Sunny Hostin’s Family Owned Slaves‚ Still DEMANDS Reparations

It's well known that Sunny Hostin‚ co-host of ABC’s The View was a staunchly racist and anti-Semitic person who has repeatedly demanded reparations from the United States and the United Kingdom. But on Thursday‚ Hostin received the results of a recent genealogy and family history investigation which found that both sides of her family tree OWNED SLAVES. And despite being slapped with the worst label race baiters like her could throw around‚ she was as adamant as ever that she “deserve[d]” reparations. Hostin discovered this rotten chuck of trunk in her family tree because she had appeared on a recent episode of Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. Before admitting the dark truth‚ she said she “was reluctant to do it because I just sensed that there could be something in my family history that would be disappointing” or “negative.”     She explained that the story passed down within her family was that they “were printers and journalists;” when in reality the “family business” was “enslavers.” Her family was so dedicated to keeping their slaves‚ that they fled from Spain across the Atlantic Ocean from country to country as more and more abolished slavery: But what I found out was that my mother's family while they are Puerto Rican‚ they actually originate from Spain‚ and the reason that they moved to Puerto Rico is because the slave trade had been sort of canceled in Spain and then Curaçao and then they moved all their slaves to Puerto Rico. So‚ the family business‚ I have been told‚ that they were printers and journalists but they were‚ in fact‚ enslavers. Possibly realizing what this could mean for the woman who made racial identity politics so crucial to her public persona and analysis‚ the audience was so quiet‚ that you could hear a pin drop. “A hush fell over the audience‚” co-host Joy Behar quipped.Continuing with the topic‚ Hostin disclosed that the revelation was “deeply disappointing” to her mother (pictured below)‚ who “identified herself as black race‚ but Hispanic for ethnicity” and “was deeply ingrained in black culture.” “But her race is white. She's European. I know‚” she lamented. “It's weird because when you look at her‚ my mother is blond and she has light eyes and my whole family looks like that.” She said her mother cried when she learned the truth and bizarrely suggested that perhaps the reason she “been so connected to black culture” was “because it's an atonement in my spirit.” Hostin did find a silver lining: even though‚ “there were slaves on both sides of our family; mother’s and father’s. But we are seven present indigenous Puerto Rican!” Amid their conversation‚ co-host Sara Haines‚ who often plays the role of speedbump to Hostin’s racial politics‚ pressed Hostin on how this discovery could change her outlook: “Sunny‚ how does this change you‚ though? You mentioned your mom was upset and this was shocking and maybe deep down‚ you kind of resisted it. How has this changed you knowing what you're hearing?” Hostin reiterated that being the progeny of slave owners was “disappointing” and “a bummer‚” but then lashed out at those who wanted to deny her access to reparation money. “I still believe in reparations! By the way. So‚ y'all can stop texting me and emailing me and saying that I'm a white girl and I don't deserve reparations!” she angrily shouted. “That's a lot‚ so I still believe in reparations. I still believe this country has a lot to do in terms of racial justice.” Faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin was so spineless that she came to Hostin’s defense‚ saying “She can't control” who her ancestors were. “You're not responsible for what they did‚” Behar agreed. But Hostin’s personal politics and position on reparations didn’t care about such things. She once claimed that all white people “continue to reap the benefits” of slavery regardless of whether they actually owned slaves or not. Surely‚ as a person whose family directly benefited from slavery‚ Hostin was continuing to reap those benefits too. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s The View February 8‚ 2024 11:02:19 a.m. Eastern WHOOPI GOLDBERG: So‚ we're starting a little differently this morning. Sunny‚ you were just on an episode of Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. [Applause] SUNNY HOSTIN: I was. And he gave me some surprising revelations about my family history. You know‚ I was really reluctant. I don't know how you felt when you did it‚ Whoopi. But I was reluctant to do it because I just sensed that there could be something in my family history that would be disappointing. BEHAR: Negative. HOSTIN: Negative‚ yes. I thought I was going to have that kind of moment. And Skip had asked me to do it for a long time‚ and I finally decided to do it because I thought it would be helpful for my children and my children's children to know what their real history was. You know? But what I found out was that my mother's family while they are Puerto Rican‚ they actually originate from Spain‚ and the reason that they moved to Puerto Rico is because the slave trade had been sort of canceled in Spain and then Curaçao and then they moved all their slaves to Puerto Rico. So‚ the family business‚ I have been told‚ that they were printers and journalists but they were‚ in fact‚ enslavers. [Nervous laughter] And my mother --   JOY BEHAR: A hush fell over the audience. HOSTIN: -- was deeply disappointing and it's deeply disappointing because my mother really identified as Puerto Rican. She was part of the civil rights movement‚ and she was deeply ingrained in black culture‚ and identified herself as black race‚ but Hispanic for ethnicity. GOLDBERG: Okay. HOSTIN: But her race is white. She's European. I know. It's weird because when you look at her‚ my mother is blond and she has light eyes and my whole family looks like that. So‚ I think inside I sort of knew this was my history and that's probably why I didn't want to do it. And I spoke to my mom about it. She was deeply disappointed. She actually cried about it. And then she said maybe that's why I have been so connected to black culture because it's an atonement in my spirit. And I received that. I also found out – and there were slaves on both sides of our family; mother’s and father’s. But we are seven present indigenous Puerto Rican! (…) 11:07:29 a.m. Eastern SARA HAINES: Sunny‚ how does this change you‚ though? You mentioned your mom was upset and this was shocking and maybe deep down‚ you kind of resisted it. How has this changed you knowing what you're hearing? HOSTIN: I think at first I was deeply disappointed. BEHAR: The slave thing is a bummer. HOSTIN: It's a bummer. ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: She can't control it. BEHAR: I know but still -- HOSTIN: I still believe in reparations! By the way. So‚ y'all can stop texting me and emailing me and saying that I'm a white girl and I don't deserve reparations! I still believe that -- BEHAR: Someone did that to you. GOLDBERG: I don't know who sent her a thing telling her she's a white girl— HOSTIN: It’s too much‚ people! GOLDBERG: --but clean off your television screen! HOSTIN: That's a lot‚ so I still believe in reparations. I still believe this country has a lot to do in terms of racial justice. But what I will say‚ Sara‚ to your question is that I feel that I'm enriched by knowing that history. Right? I'm enriched and I'm enriched by knowing that my family has come so far from being enslavers to my mother marrying my father in 1968. BEHAR: That's right. HOSTIN: I feel enriched. [Applause] BEHAR: You're not responsible for what they did. (…)
