US State Department used taxpayer funds to back censorship firms that target conservative media outlets: Lawsuit

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton‚ the Daily Wire‚ and the Federalist filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of State for using taxpayer funds to back censorship firms that target conservative-leaning media outlets. The lawsuit also named Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and several other federal government officials.Paxton and the media outlets accused the State Department of committing “one of the most egregious government operations to censor the American press in the history of the nation.”Through the State Department’s Global Engagement Center‚ the federal government is “actively intervening in the news-media market to render disfavored press outlets unprofitable by funding the infrastructure‚ development‚ and marketing and promotion of censorship technology and private censorship enterprises to covertly suppress speech of a segment of the American press‚” the complaint claimed. The lawsuit accused Biden’s State Department of violating First Amendment rights and “tarring disfavored domestic news organizations as purveyors of ‘disinformation.’”The department used taxpayer funds to back NewsGuard and the Global Disinformation Index‚ which have used their “fact-checking” platforms to starve right-leaning media outlets “of advertising revenue and reducing the circulation of their reporting and speech‚” the lawsuit claimed. In 2022‚ the GDI published the “Disinformation Risk Assessment‚” which ranked conservative outlets as unreliable. The top 10 “riskiest” outlets included the American Spectator‚ Newsmax‚ the Federalist‚ the American Conservative‚ OAN‚ Blaze Media‚ the Daily Wire‚ RealClearPolitics‚ Reason‚ and the New York Post. The top ten “least risky” list favored left-leaning media outlets such as NPR‚ the Associated Press‚ the New York Times‚ ProPublica‚ Insider‚ USA Today‚ the Washington Post‚ HuffPost‚ BuzzFeed News‚ and the Wall Street Journal. The lawsuit stated that NewsGuard and the GDI “generate blacklists of ostensibly risky or unreliable American news outlets for the purpose of discrediting and demonetizing the disfavored press and redirecting money and audiences to news organization that publish favored viewpoints.”A NewsGuard spokesperson told the New York Post that several conservative-leaning outlets are ranked as more reliable than their left-leaning counterparts. The spokesperson noted that Reason has “perfect 100/100 scores from NewsGuard.”The lawsuit “inaccurately portrays” NewsGuard’s relationship with the State Department‚ the spokesperson told the Post.“NewsGuard does not offer any technology that censors or blocks any content‚ or that blocks ads on content‚” the spokesperson continued. “Instead‚ we provide information — our assessments of sites — so that our clients can decide for themselves where to place their ads or which content to amplify‚ and each client decides for themselves how to use that data.”The State Department stated that it cannot comment on pending litigation‚ the Post reported. The Federalist’s editor in chief‚ Mollie Hemingway‚ told Fox News‚ “What the suit shows is that the State Department was engaged in setting up‚ funding‚ marketing‚ promoting‚ and continuing to work with these private companies that are engaged in censorship of speech.”“They privilege left-wing media outlets like the New York Times and the Washington Post; they helped advertisers meet those people. The Federalist told the Post that its “lawsuit seeks to halt the State Department’s ultra vires and unconstitutional censorship scheme.”“The State Department lacks any authority to operate domestically‚ as it is doing currently with its Global Engagement Center. Unfortunately‚ though‚ our federal government’s efforts to censor the disfavored media‚ such as the New Civil Liberties Alliance’s clients‚ extends much beyond the State Department‚” the Federalist added. The Daily Wire stated‚ “The Biden administration is illegally funding organizations with the stated goal of financially crippling media outlets whose coverage does not walk in lockstep with the government’s ideological agenda.”Paxton accused the State Department of attempting to “obliterate the First Amendment.”“This agency will not get away with their illegal campaign to silence citizens and publications they disagree with‚” Paxton said. The GDI did not respond to a request for comment from the Post.Like Blaze News? Watch: Vivek Ramaswamy RIPS into Nikki Haley over identity politics

The fourth GOP debate had no shortage of drama and theatrics. One notable moment was when Vivek Ramaswamy tore into Nikki Haley for rooting her campaign in identity politics. He claimed that identity politics has become America’s “new religion that says your race‚ your gender‚ and your sexuality are your identity.” “It’s anti-American; it’s anti-meritocratic‚” he said before criticizing the fact that “Nikki Haley's campaign launch video sounded like a woke Dylan Mulvaney Bud Light ad talking about how she would kick in heels” and how “at the first debate‚ she said that only a woman can get this job done.” “I reject the use of identity politics in this party; it has been a cancer coming from the left‚ and I'm sick and tired of the double standards‚” he criticized over a mixture of cheering and booing from the audience. “Amen‚” says Sara Gonzales in agreement. “You don't need to be walking around claiming that being a woman gives you some sort of special powers.” To see more of Vivek’s debate highlights‚ watch the clip below. The seeds of our republic’s fall were planted with the rejection of God

The seeds of our republic’s fall were planted with the rejection of God

We’ve seen a lot of craziness at the U.S. Capitol these last few years‚ from the events of January 6 to Senator John Fetterman (D-Penn.) becoming more based than 95% of the Republican Party. But one demonic day of testimony this week may have reached a crescendo of crazy.Three presidents of once-renowned institutions of higher learning testified under oath on Capitol Hill their combined refusal to denounce calls for the genocide of Jews. Meanwhile‚ just down the hall‚ a woman was testifying it was the duty of her fellow women to learn to lose gracefully to men impersonating women‚ who are stealing their opportunities and usurping their locker rooms. And hell was belly-laughing at us the entire time. This is not exactly the stuff of a shining city on a hill. It’s more like secretions from a deep‚ dark pit. According to legend‚ Benjamin Franklin said the framers of our Constitution were giving us a “republic — if you can keep it.” It’s becoming painfully — and tragically — obvious that we can’t.Let’s rip the band-aid off this festering wound‚ shall we? The American Revolution was driven by a belief that only God is God and the king is not. That requires also recognizing that we‚ the people‚ aren’t God‚ either.I saw a quote a while back that the problem with the American church is that no one wants to arrest or kill its pastors any more. Yet I'm not sure how many of our suburban mega-palaces that claim to preach Christ are really any form of threat to the spirit of the age whatsoever. That doesn’t mean they’re all heretics‚ but it does mean that they have practiced a form of theological reductionism that makes "drag queen story hour is a blessing of liberty” as likely a worldview outcome as anything else. What kind of moral destiny can we possibly have when serious discipleship seems to happen only by accident? Ridley Scott’s new "Napoleon" film depicts the more than 41‚000 people who were imprisoned by Robespierre during the Reign of Terror. That doesn’t even count the thousands of people — mostly royalty or church officials — who were sent to the guillotine. But then‚ after tearing down the statue of the Virgin Mary in the Cathedral of Notre Dame and putting up a statue of the goddess of reason instead‚ the French revolutionaries were toppled in fairly short historical order because they had become even worse than the regime they replaced. The state as god versus vox populi was a schizophrenic bloodbath. How’s that for a moral destiny? Two sides who think they have nothing in common with each other to the point of death but who are identical in the area that matters most. They each lacked a reverential fear of God. On the right these days‚ we are fond of reminding the left that the state is not God. But we need to remember that neither is the mob. Being driven by polls of reactionary masses is no more righteous than being mired in a swamp of faceless bureaucrats. For each‚ in their own unique way‚ is made up of the same kind of people.Sinners. Because that’s what each of us is.The scriptures say‚ “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” The fear spoken of here is of the reverential variety‚ not the cowering kind. Jesus speaks to this at the end of the parable of the talents. In response to a servant who took the talent given to him and‚ out of cowering fear of failure‚ did nothing with it‚ Christ proclaims‚ “Depart from me‚ you wicked servant‚ into the den of iniquity.”Instead‚ what the servant was supposed to fear was wasting the opportunity to maximize the talent bestowed upon him by the talent-giver. That talent was given for a reason. It was meant to be exploited. It was meant to be fulfilled. Thus‚ it would be a sin not to do so. For in wasting such a gift from your master‚ you have declared yourself to be nothing less than an ingrate – which the dictionary defines as “an ungrateful person.”We are here. But we didn’t have to be. Our revolt against the king was driven neither by “power to the people” nor a “people’s revolution.” It was driven by a belief that only God is God and the king is not. That requires also recognizing that we‚ the people‚ aren’t God‚ either‚ by the way. However‚ while the left was turning its collective back on God‚ many of us on the right took Him for granted. We pursued seekers harder than Him. We chased after dueling idols of believing God can only work through selling out to a political party that hates us or that God wouldn’t want us to get our hands dirty with politics at all. We sought cultural relevancy rather than transformation. We even tried to be nicer than God‚ and now we have a woke pope and a Southern Baptist Convention full of soft woke pastors. Defeat is legion. There is a way out. In the final book of the Bible‚ Christ shows us the way: “Repent and return to doing the works you did at first.”And then He warns us what will happen if we do not: “I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.” Last one out‚ turn out the lights.

Stephen A. Smith plays race card‚ threatens to leave ESPN

According to Jason Whitlock‚ Stephen A. Smith just “very politely played the race card.” The ESPN host of "First Take" told Clay Travis that he deserves to be the network's highest-paid personality‚ and if he isn’t‚ he could take his talents elsewhere. Smith currently makes $12 million a year from the five-year‚ $60 million deal he signed in late 2019. However‚ commentators like Joe Buck‚ Troy Aikman‚ and Pat McAfee make more — and Smith isn’t happy about that. “Is it important to you‚ based on the way the first time ended at ESPN‚ that you are the highest-paid person on ESPN given the work that you’re doing for them? Do you think that should be the case?” Travis asked Smith. “Yes‚” Smith responded.“I’m not stuttering. Hell yes‚ that’s absolutely true.” “Now‚” he continued‚ “I respect the fact if they feel differently. It’s not going to be animosity‚ it’s not going to be something where I’m looking at them and I feel like I got screwed; it’s a business.” While he claims he wouldn’t be upset‚ he lets Travis know that he’s been “number one for 12 years come April 1” and that not only has he been number one every year‚ but number one every week and every month. “I’m not just a talent. I’m a business‚” he added. Smith has launched his own YouTube channel with the intent of going his own way if he needs to‚ and Whitlock believes that if ESPN fails to pay up‚ Smith has the guts to do it his own way. “Stephen A. is willing to play that game with YouTube‚” Whitlock says. “He’ll support the vaccine‚ he’ll support whatever he’s supposed to support to get YouTube success.” “But all this beat-his-chest‚ I’m-number-one‚” Whitlock continues. “There’s a lot of guys with strong followings‚ and Stephen A.‚ his level of expertise on sports is just so weak that I’m not sure if he could topple a lot of these guys that already got a head start on him.” Want more from Jason Whitlock? To enjoy more fearless conversations at the crossroads of culture‚ faith‚ sports‚ and comedy with Jason Whitlock‚ subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America‚ defend the Constitution‚ and live the American dream.

Pfizer mRNA jab leaves 1 in 3 recipients with 'unintended immune response': Cambridge study

A peer-reviewed University of Cambridge study published Wednesday in the scientific journal Nature has revealed the Nobel Prize-winning technique that paved the way for synthetic messenger ribonucleic acid vaccines is far from flawless. To trick the body into allowing cellular interventions by synthetic mRNA-based therapeutics‚ scientists discovered they first had to make chemical modifications to the building blocks of the mRNA. Researchers indicated this week that encounters with repeat base modifications often lead to cellular miscommunications‚ which ultimately trigger immune flare-ups in vaccine recipients. Since the mRNA technology rushed to market during the pandemic is now being used to treat various cancers and diseases‚ the researchers stressed the urgency of addressing this issue. Anne Willis‚ a co-author of the study and biochemist from the University of Cambridge's Medical Research Council Toxicology Unit‚ said it is "essential that [mRNA] therapeutics are designed to be free from unintended side effects." What's the background? Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman were awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in October for their discoveries that enabled the development of "effective mRNA vaccines" against COVID-19. The duo observed that the body treated synthetic mRNA — genetic material designed to tell cells in the body how to make specific proteins‚ such as the "spike" protein — as a foreign invader. Faced with this invader‚ the body would undergo an inflammatory response. This reaction proved troublesome for potential therapeutics as the body's natural response to the synthetic material hindered its efforts to enter cells and exert its effects‚ according to the University of Cambridge. Karikó and Weissman discovered that by chemically modifying its uridine RNA base‚ the synthetic mRNA could steal past the body's defenses and issue its protein schematics. The Telegraph reported that it was widely believed until now that the modification to uridine was unproblematic. However‚ it's now clear that these covert genetic operations leave an undesired mark on a significant portion of patients subjected to the gene therapy. Cellular miscommunication Researchers with the MRC Toxicology Unit set out to analyze whether there were any safety issues linked to mRNA-based therapeutics. They found that "the cellular machinery that 'reads' mRNAs 'slips' when confronted with repeats of a chemical modification commonly found in mRNA therapeutics‚" the university indicated in a release. The aforementioned "cellular machinery" is called a ribosome. The ribosome reads and translates mRNA code‚ providing the body with instructions on how to make antibodies. When confronted with a chemical base modification of mRNA called "N1-methylpseudouridine‚" ribosomes apparently slip around 10% of the time‚ according to Anne Willis and immunologist James Thaventhiran. These so-called slips result in the production of unintended proteins‚ which set off an "unintended immune response." The Cambridge researchers‚ collaborating with scientists at other English universities‚ tested for evidence of the production of "off-target" proteins in vaccine recipients‚ specifically those who took the mRNA Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Sure enough‚ they "found an unintended immune response occurred in one third of the 21 patients in the study who were vaccinated." mRNA is also utilized in the Moderna vaccine‚ but the scientists did not report testing it for slips. Despite the immune responses and the small sample size‚ the researchers claimed there were no "ill effects" as the unintended proteins produced were not viable in the body. "The safety concern for future mRNA medicines is that misdirected immunity has huge potential to be harmful‚ so off-target immune responses should always be avoided‚" said Thaventhiran. The Cambridge team determined that the mRNA sequences could be redesigned to ensure the production of the intended protein and thereby avoid such unintended immune responses. Thaventhiran‚ senior author of the study‚ issued the necessary declaration that COVID-19 vaccines are safe‚ then added‚ "We need to ensure that mRNA vaccines of the future are as reliable. Our demonstration of 'slip-resistant' mRNAs is a vital contribution to future safety of this medicine platform." Like Blaze News? Deadspin adds editor's note to story about kid wearing blackface following lawsuit threat; removes photo‚ changes headline

Deadspin has added an editor's note to its story that accused a 9-year-old boy of wearing blackface to a Kansas City Chiefs game — and culturally appropriating Native Americans by wearing a headdress to the event — in the wake of a lawsuit threat from the boy's parents. In addition‚ the outlet removed the story's photo showing the boy with only half his face painted black — the other half‚ as it turned out‚ was painted red‚ in line with the Chiefs' team colors: — (@) Deadspin also changed the story's headline and said it took down links and posts related to its initial story. The editor's note reads as follows:On Nov. 27‚ Deadspin published an opinion piece criticizing the NFL for allowing a young fan to attend the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 26 wearing a traditional Native American headdress and‚ based upon the available photo‚ what appeared to be black face paint.Unfortunately the article drew attention to the fan‚ though our intended focus was on the NFL and its checkered history on race‚ an issue which our writer has covered extensively for Deadspin. Three years ago‚ the Chiefs banned fans from wearing headdresses in Arrowhead Stadium‚ as well as face painting that “appropriates American Indian cultures and traditions.” The story’s intended focus was the NFL and its failure to extend those rules to the entire league. We regret any suggestion that we were attacking the fan. To that end‚ our story was updated on Dec. 7 to remove any photos‚ tweets‚ links‚ or otherwise identifying information about the fan. We have also revised the headline to better reflect the substance of the story. Here are the details relating to the new headline and photo:The initial headline read‚ "The NFL needs to speak out against the Kansas City Chiefs fan in Black face‚ Native headdress"; the new headline reads‚ "The NFL Must Ban Native Headdress And Culturally Insensitive Face Paint in the Stands (UPDATED)."The new photo for the story shows NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.OutKick noted that the updated story also no longer contains the following lead paragraph: "It takes a lot to disrespect two groups of people at once. But on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas‚ a Kansas City Chiefs fan found a way to hate Black people and the Native Americans at the same time." An updated paragraph now reads: "It takes a lot to disrespect two groups of people at once. But on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas‚ someone in the stands at the Kansas City Chiefs game found a way‚ leading to lots of unanswered questions."What's the background?Last week the parents of Holden Armenta threatened to sue Deadspin and demanded a retraction and apology‚ NewsNation reported. In relation to the cultural appropriation accusation‚ Holden's mother stated on her Facebook page that her son actually is Native American. The Armenta family noted they are part of the Chumash tribe of California and used to live on a reservation‚ Fox News said.Holden's father told Fox News' Jesse Watters that he's "mad" and "upset" about the toll the controversy has taken on his son: "He's pretty devastated." — (@) According to a letter NewsNation said it obtained‚ Holden’s parents — Shannon and Raul Armenta — hired Clare Locke LLP to threaten action against Phillips‚ Deadspin‚ G/O Media‚ and Great Hill Partners.“These Articles‚ posts on X‚ and photos about Holden and his parents must be retracted immediately. It is not enough to quietly remove a tweet from X or disable the article from Deadspin’s website‚" the letter reads‚ according to NewsNation. "You must publish your retractions and issue an apology to my clients with the same prominence and fanfare with which you defamed them."Prior to the lawsuit threat‚ Blaze News writer Carlos Garcia pointed out that Phillips‚ in an effort to double down against numerous critics railing against him‚ used a non-sequitur that accused them of hating Mexicans."For the idiots in my mentions who are treating this as some harmless act because the other side of his face was painted red‚ I could make the argument that it makes it even worse‚" Phillips wrote in an X post‚ which now appears to have been deleted. "Y’all are the ones who hate Mexicans but wear sombreros on Cinco."As it happens‚ the posts on Phillips' X account are now protected.Like Blaze News? 'It's insane!' NYC to impose controversial congestion tax costing commuters thousands‚ top Democrat calls plan a rip-off

New York City has come one step closer to imposing a controversial congestion tax that would cost commuters thousands of dollars. Many have already voiced strong opposition to the congestion pricing plan‚ including the Democrat governor of New Jersey‚ who called the plan a rip-off for commuters. On Wednesday‚ the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board overwhelmingly voted 9-1 to approve the congestion pricing — the first of its kind in the United States. There will now be a 60-day public comment period; then the MTA will finalize a toll schedule with proposed rates before public hearings in February. The congestion pricing would charge motorists entering Manhattan’s central business district – 60th Street and everything south to the tip of the financial district. However‚ there are four different tunnels that land below 60th Street: the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels from New Jersey‚ the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel from Brooklyn‚ and the Queens-Midtown Tunnel from Long Island.Motorists driving cars will have to pay $15 a day to enter the central business district. Trucks would be charged $24 to $36‚ depending on size. Motorcycles would be charged $7.50. Taxis would be charged $1.25 per ride‚ while rideshare services like Uber and Lyft would be hit with a $2.50 surcharge. NY1 reported‚ "A closer look at the plan reveals that only cars with E-ZPasses will see the $15 base fare. Those without E-ZPasses will pay $22.50 to drive into the central business district."Full rates are in effect from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on the weekends. During the off-peak times‚ rates would be about 75% less. However‚ New York City officials could increase the congestion pricing. NJ.com noted‚ "The two additions to the fee structure were in the fine print of MTA board action items and include two potential fee increases – a 25% higher congestion pricing fee to enter the central business district during Gridlock Alert Days and a potential 10% increase or decrease to the fee for up to one year after implementation."Drivers who earn less than $50‚000 a year will receive 10 free entries per month‚ after which they’ll have to pay half price.According to WNBC‚ "The review board said that implementing their congestion pricing plan is expected to reduce the number of vehicles entering the area by 17%. That would equate to 153‚000 fewer cars in that large portion of Manhattan."The congestion pricing is estimated to bring in $15 billion in revenue to the MTA."Much of the cash will go toward the MTA’s 2020-24 Capital Program. For example‚ some of the proceeds will finance four new Metro-North stations for communities in the Bronx‚" CNBC reported. "The MTA is also speeding up investment in clean bus technology. The agency expects to begin experimenting with hydrogen fuel cell bus technology in 2025.""Excess traffic is costing the New York City region $20 billion a year‚" said Kathy Wylde – a member of the Traffic Mobility Review Board and the head of the Partnership for New York City. There have been many outspoken critics of the congestion pricing plan.A driver said‚ "It’s insane! What are they‚ crazy? We already have enough high fees."Last month‚ New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy. said the MTA will "impose an unfair and ill-conceived congestion pricing tolling scheme on New Jersey commuters." He also said the congestion tax would be "ripping off New Jersey commuters to pay for whatever financial hardships the MTA is facing."“Despite our interconnected and interdependent regional economy and transportation system‚ New York officials did not meaningfully consult with us from the outset and instead treated New Jerseyans as a convenient way to fill an MTA budget hole‚" Murphy stated. Murphy said he supports congestion pricing‚ as long as it is "structured in a way that is fair to all sides‚" but added that this "plan is neither fair nor equitable."Murphy argued that the congestion tax will "lead to toll shopping‚ increased congestion in underserved communities‚ and excessive tolling at New Jersey crossings into Manhattan."The N.J. governor threatened‚ "We are left with no choice than to continue addressing our concerns through litigation."New Jersey launched a lawsuit to try to stop the MTA from enacting the tax plan. Mark Sokolich – the mayor of Fort Lee in New Jersey – filed a federal class-action lawsuit last month to block the congestion pricing. Staten Island previously said it would also sue the MTA over the proposal. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said‚ "I know there's going to be an impact‚ but we have to also deal with the larger picture-protecting and cleaning up our environment‚ protecting the quality of air‚ protecting mobility on our streets‚ and also protecting our financial stability of the MTA‚ because without that‚ it all collapses."New York City Mayor Eric Adams said on Thursday‚ "We don’t want to overburden working-class New Yorkers‚ but those who are just driving for convenience‚ whatever the price is‚ they need to pay that price." Congestion taxes have already been implemented in cities such as Milan‚ London‚ Singapore‚ and Stockholm. The MTA wants to implement congestion pricing in late spring 2024.Like Blaze News? 'Poor Things': Disney's feminist Frankenstein movie says 'whoring' is liberating and brave

The latest film from Disney studio Searchlight Pictures depicts a feminist's literary dream‚ where a female lead is lauded for promiscuity and her defiance of societal norms in a time when both are most unbecoming."Poor Things‚" starring Emma Stone‚ Willem Dafoe‚ and outspoken progressive Mark Ruffalo‚ has received a litany of reviews praising its celebration of feminist doctrine. Stone stars as Bella Baxter‚ a reanimated corpse with the brain of an unborn child. The plot very obviously pulls from the original "Frankenstein" book‚ which is made even more apparent by the depiction of the mad scientist character‚ played by Dafoe. The film focuses on the male characters' inability to control their female creation as intended. Instead‚ what was supposed to be an easily manipulated woman develops into what the Hollywood Reporter described as "a fiercely spirited‚ independent woman."The outlet further noted that the character simply throws off the constraints of polite society and takes control of her body and identity while refusing to be controlled by men.Rolling Stone praised the movie for the character spreading her wings on her own "sexed-up‚ pro-science terms."With multiple sex scenes‚ the character is meant to display female empowerment. In one scene‚ the she-Frankenstein describes how Wedderburn (Ruffalo) "became much weepy and sweary when he discovered my whoring."In response‚ the character Max McCandles‚ who is hired to document the female experiment's progress‚ explains that it is not his place to judge such actions. "I find myself merely jealous of the men's time with you‚ rather than any moral aspersion against you. It is your body‚ Bella Baxter‚ yours to give freely‚" he explained."I generally charge 30 francs‚" Stone's character replies. While the entire plot drips with feminism‚ the attempted humor is quite certainly secondary to the core messaging.Stone explained her thoughts on the character in a pre-release featurette for the movie‚ when she noted that "the more autonomous [the character] becomes‚ the more challenged these men seem to be by it.""I wanted to play Bella because it felt like acceptance of what it is to be a woman: to be free‚ to be scared and brave‚" she added. There is little room for misinterpretation. The film and the book it was based on are entirely a portrayal of a feminist who is supposed to be ahead of her time but is oppressed by the men around her.The "Poor Things" book‚ published in 1992‚ is described as a woman pursuing her sexual appetite across the globe. A review from 1992 explained how the character became a "famous campaigner for health education and women’s rights" but is "defeated by public mockery and interference orchestrated by profiteering English newspapers."Even in the early 1990s‚ this character was painted as a "feminist doctor with a burning commitment to social justice" who is unfairly silenced. The author‚ Alasdair Gray‚ was very politically active. A Scottish nationalist and separatist‚ Gray interestingly called English immigrants to Scotland "settlers" and "colonists." However‚ he felt settlers of any background were good‚ whereas he determined colonists to be any immigrant who exploits the arts or business sector of Scotland‚ only to return home for promotion or retirement.Like Blaze News?
