All the way back in the stone age of 2021‚ Commentary’s Christine Rosen headlined this of certain Democrats in Congress: The Squad’s Noxious Anti-Semitism Rosen wrote: In 2019‚ after public outcry over anti-Semitic remarks made by Rep. Ilhan Omar‚ House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refused to mete out any consequences to the Democratic “Squad” member. Instead‚ she and the House Democratic Conference passed a weak resolution condemning any “hateful expressions of intolerance” and including a laundry list of racial and ethnic groups among those who should be protected. Not surprisingly‚ Omar saw the resolution as a victory. She issued a statement that said‚ “It’s the first time we have voted on a resolution condemning anti-Muslim bigotry in our nation’s history.” If you’re wondering why many of us criticized Pelosi for her cowardice at the time‚ this week offers more proof: Omar and other Squad members such as Rashida Tlaib‚ Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez‚ Ayanna Pressley‚ and Cori Bush‚ clearly understood Pelosi’s inaction as giving tacit approval for them continuing to make anti-Semitic statements. And so they have. They have indeed. But alas‚ this problem is still bigger than the Squad or two Ivy League university presidents. A group of 40 interns‚ who did not put their names on the letter‚ made headlines after they demanded the president and vice president push for a ‘permanent cease-fire’ in the war between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas. “We‚ the undersigned Fall 2023 White House and Executive Office of the President interns‚ will no longer remain silent on the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people‚’ the interns’ letter begins. ‘We are Palestinian‚ Jewish‚ Arab‚ Muslim‚ Christian‚ Black‚ Asian‚ Latine‚ White‚ and Queer.’” Notice anything? In describing themselves‚ the very last descriptor is that in their midst some are self-identifying as “Queer.” And in their illustration of flagrant ignorance‚ they simply appear to be unaware that it is a crime in Palestine to be “Queer.” And that Palestine’s biggest backer — Iran — had this reported of its treatment of gays in Iran‚ per the Times of Israel: Amnesty reports Iran executed 2 gay men over sodomy charges The story explained: Iran has executed two gay men who were convicted on charges of sodomy and spent six years on death row‚ a rights group reported. Homosexuality is illegal in Iran‚ considered one of the most repressive places in the world for lesbian‚ gay‚ bisexual and transgender people. According to a report on Sunday by the Human Rights Activists News Agency‚ the two men were identified as Mehrdad Karimpour and Farid Mohammadi. They were sentenced to death for “forced sexual intercourse between two men” and hanged in a prison in the northwestern city of Maragheh‚ some 500 kilometers (310 miles) from the capital‚ Tehran. Last July‚ two other men were executed on the same charges in Maragheh‚ the group said. It added that last year‚ Iran executed 299 people‚ including four convicted of crimes committed as children. Also in 2021‚ Iran sentenced 85 people to death.” So‚ in other words? There are the interns in Joe Biden’s White House standing up — anonymously‚ of course — for the anti-Semitism that is running through the veins of Joe Biden’s Democratic Party. Barack Obama intervened personally to try and head off a mounting clamour from Jewish donors and pro-Israel groups who objected to the dropping of a line supporting Jerusalem as the capital of Israel from the Democratic policy platform. A day after the platform was published without the recognition of Jerusalem‚ the line was reinstated. Pressure had been building over not only the dropping of that statement – which was part of the Democratic party platform in 2008 – but also the removal of any reference to God in the document. Those omissions threatened to alienate both Jewish Democratic supporters and Christian swing voters. But the reintroduction of the lines was equally controversial; its clumsy handling resulting in a confusing vote and booing on the convention floor. At the formal opening of the day’s business‚ the convention chairman‚ Antonio Villaraigosa‚ proposed a vote to return to the document its past commitment to Jerusalem as the Israeli capital as well as a reference to God. He called for those in favour of the change to shout ‘Aye’ and those against ‘No’. It was a hard to tell‚ with the two sounding evenly-divided. Villaraigosa called the vote a total of three times to no certain result but eventually called it for the Ayes. In fact‚ the change required a two-thirds vote in favour and it definitely did not sound anywhere close to that. But Villaraigosa pushed it through anyway‚ determined to try to bring a speedy end to an awkward row. There was loud booing in the hall when he announced the changes had gone through…. “We welcome the amendment referencing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and we applaud the DNC for listening and for being responsive to the concerns raised by supporters of Israel‚’ said Abraham H Foxman‚ ADL national director. “But we are still troubled that it was removed‚ and it should never have happened in the first place. This has been a longstanding policy statement on the DNC platform going back decades.” All of which is to say that this increasingly rabid anti-Semitism may have once been a trickle on the left‚ but‚ as now seen on television screens across the nation‚ with thousands of leftists on college campuses and in America’s streets protesting the very existence of Israel‚ the trickle has become a flood. Now it has forced the resignation of Penn’s president‚ Elizabeth Magill‚ and the chairman of the board of trustees‚ Scott L. Bok. Controversy over the fates of the Harvard and MIT presidents‚ both of whom testified with Magill‚ swirls on. As we head into the 2024 presidential election‚ one can be certain that the anti-Semitism that has become so flagrantly at issue in various leftist institutions will not be going away. Buckle in. Authorities have apprehended a 30-year-old New Hampshire man who allegedly sent text messages in which he threatened to kill GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy‚ a multi-millionaire entrepreneur who is the youngest ever candidate to wage a major presidential campaign as a Republican‚ as well as his supporters. After Ramaswamy’s campaign sent a text message to voters informing them of an upcoming campaign event in Portsmouth‚ New Hampshire‚ the suspect‚ Tyler Anderson‚ responded to the text on Friday by saying‚ “Great‚ another opportunity for me to blow his brains out!” Anderson added‚ “I’m going to kill everyone who attends and then f*** their corpses.”  Ramaswamy’s team immediately alerted New Hampshire state police‚ who located Anderson and took him into custody on Monday. Tricia McLaughlin‚ the candidate’s spokesperson‚ noted after the arrest‚ “We are grateful to law enforcement for their swiftness and professionalism in handling this matter and pray for the safety of all Americans.” The suspect has reportedly admitted to sending the text messages as well as similar messages to other presidential campaigns. He is now facing a maximum prison term of five years‚ three years of supervised release‚ and a potential fine of $250‚000.  Ramaswamy was able to run the campaign event Monday morning without incident‚ speaking to and then answering questions from a crowd for about an hour. She was even criticized by Joe Biden’s White House. Additionally‚ 74 members of Congress — including two Democrats — have issued a public letter demanding that Gay be fired. In this ideological framework‚ Jewish people are classified as “white” privileged oppressors and Israel is cast as an oppressive “settler colonial” state. The aftermath of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens by Hamas made this perspective evident. As one example‚ the “Critical Race and Ethnic Studies” department at the University of California‚ Santa Cruz‚ released a statement that read‚ “What we are witnessing needs to be understood in the context of 75 years of settler colonial displacement‚ military occupation‚ and enclosure.” In 2022‚ Lori Lowenthal Marcus and Jesse M. Fried of the Wall Street Journal noted that radical ethnic studies has always been anti-Semitic in nature. “[T]he ethnic-studies movement has never been about representation or justice‚” they explained. “A creature of 1960s radical left-wing activism‚ ethnic studies was from the start about attacking the U.S.‚ capitalism and Zionism.” Gay‚ though she repeatedly said during her congressional testimony that this “type of hateful speech is personally abhorrent to me‚” was careful to leave an opening to allow genocidal calls against Jews to take place at Harvard‚ as she knows that a large and powerful contingent at Harvard subscribes to the ideas that Jewish people are privileged “white” oppressors‚ Israel is a “settler colonial” state‚ and Palestinians are an oppressed people who should rise up against their supposed colonial subjugators. Harvard students have in recent years gone all-in on the narrative that Israel is inherently oppressive. Just last year‚ on April 29‚ 2022‚ the editorial board of the Harvard Crimson‚ Harvard’s student newspaper‚ upheld the “boycott‚ divest‚ and sanctions movement” — which has as its aim the international isolation of Israel — and “Palestinian liberation.” The editorial board gave a full-throated endorsement of the Harvard College Palestine Solidarity Committee‚ the group that would later publish a letter on Oct. 7‚ 2023‚ accusing the “Israeli regime” of being “entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.” As it stated in April 2022‚ the Harvard Crimson editorial board “is broadly and proudly supportive of PSC’s mission and activism.” In November‚ Harvard sophomore Kojo Acheampong led students in chanting‚ “Long live Palestine; long live the intifada; intifada‚ intifada; globalize the intifada.” Acheampong is the co-founder of the African and African American Resistance Organization‚ or AFRO‚ a group that was formed in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling that affirmative action is illegal racial discrimination. According to Acheampong‚ the students chant because “[w]e need liberation everywhere.” “[T]hat’s what the intifada means‚” he explained. “The intifada means Palestine will be free.” Gay’s entire career is founded upon the “diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion” movement. Not only is it the lens through which she studies politics in every one of her published works‚ but she also led Harvard’s total entrenchment in the ideology following the death of George Floyd. “This moment offers a profound opportunity for institutional change that should not and cannot be squandered‚” Gay said alongside her 2020 announcement of Harvard’s initiatives to “address racial and ethnic equality.” Bill Ackman‚ a billionaire who has been outspoken about the anti-Semitism on Harvard’s campus‚ explained last week on X that an anonymous person told him that Harvard’s presidential search committee‚ which selected Gay‚ only considered candidates who met the “criteria” of Harvard’s DEI office. The ugly anti-Semitism and racism inherent in “diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion” was laid bare for all to see through Claudine Gay’s testimony — as well as the similar witness of the University of Pennsylvania’s Elizabeth Magill and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sally Kornbluth. Magill was forced to tender her resignation as a result of the backlash after even Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. On Sunday‚ Fareed Zakaria pinned the blame for Gay’s equivocation on Harvard’s agenda for diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion. “[T]o understand their performance‚” said Zaharia‚ “we have to understand the broad shift that has taken place at elite universities‚ which have gone from being centers of excellence to institutions pushing political agendas.” Zakaria explained that “American universities have been neglecting a core focus on excellence in order to pursue a variety of agendas — many of them clustered around diversity and inclusion.” He asserted that this began with “the best of intentions‚” but that those intentions have “morphed into a dogmatic ideology.” As a result of the total adoption of this ideology‚ “university administrators found themselves squirming‚ unable to explain why certain groups (Jews‚ Asians) don’t seem to count in these conversations.” David French likewise argued in the New York Times that reform at Harvard to solve the problem of anti-Semitism “means disempowering a diversity‚ equity and inclusion apparatus that is itself all too often an engine of censorship and extreme political bias.” Harvard faculty members sense that backlash against Gay is an indictment against critical race theory‚ and‚ for this reason‚ they have rushed to defend her. Hundreds — many of whose work rests entirely on the ideological framework of critical race theory — have signed letters affirming their support for Gay. One of these letters‚ from black faculty members‚ explicitly pushed back against efforts to connect Gay with the ideology of diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion. “[A]ny suggestion that her selection as president was the result of a process that elevated an unqualified person based on considerations of race and gender are specious and politically motivated‚” the letter said. The New York Times reported that backlash against Gay for her testimony was sparse on campus‚ stating‚ “The congressional exchange appears to have generated far more intense reactions among donors and alumni than among current faculty and students.” As Gay contends with all of this backlash‚ she also faces a new scandal: She is accused of committing plagiarism. She has denied the claims.
