Mason & Jordan are traveling around the world on a budget. Their current adventure has them in Japan. They are hiking and using inexpensive public transportation to tour the country. On their way to catch a train, they stopped because Jordan wanted to take a closer look at a giant salamander. Jordan had one goal in Japan. He wanted to see a Japanese frog, which he finally got to see. The giant salamander is a bonus. The Japanese giant salamander is a predominantly aquatic species and is the second-largest salamander species in the world. They reach five feet in length and weigh up to 55 pounds. They can live up to 100 years. Their conservation status was recently upgraded from Near Threatened to Vulnerable in 2022 by the IUCN. Jordan and Mason, Canadians, decided to quit their jobs and tour Asia for six months. They set a budget and began their adventure. They did a lot of walking, took the Metro extensively, and rode a longer local train for a day trip. Their proposed budget was $100 per day for both of them. When they did the math at the end of their first week, they averaged $104.18. That’s pretty good for novice travelers.
