A bill stripping free healthcare for illegal immigrants in Minnesota was signed into law this week, days after Minnesota House Democrat leader Melissa Hortman was assassinated in what law enforcement says was an act of political violence. Hortman was the lone House Democrat to vote for the bill. She gave a tearful explanation to reporters following the vote, Sahan Journal reported. “I’ll continue to have health insurance, so I’m fine,” she said. “What I worry about is the people who will lose their health insurance. Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) attempted to use some of her time during a Wednesday hearing to get Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to answer a question based on the assumption that President Donald Trump would give troops an unlawful order. Hegseth, who was on Capitol Hill for another round of contentious hearings, made it abundantly clear that he was not going to allow Hirono to dictate the framing of his response. She asked Hegseth whether he or others would carry out an order from Trump to “shoot peaceful protesters in the legs.” “Would you carry out such an order?” she asked. “Senator, as I have said before, of course, I reject the premise of your question,” Hegseth shot back. “And the characterization that I would be given or am given unlawful orders, it’s all meant to smear the Commander in Chief, and I won’t fall for it.” Hirono’s question echoed some of the claims made by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) when she joined protesters in the streets of Los Angeles and taunted the ICE agents who’d been sent to enforce federal immigration law. After wildly claiming that the agents probably had orders to shoot people, she shouted at the agents, “Why do you have guns? What are you going to do, you going to shoot some kid who’s afraid of you and runs? You going to shoot an elected official? If you shoot me, you better shoot straight.”

Filmmaker Tyler Perry has been accused of sexual assault and is being sued for $260 million. Actor Derek Dixon, who is best known for his work in “The Oval” and “Ruthless,” filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles accusing Perry of creating a “coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic” while he was working on those projects.  Dixon claims to have turned down Perry’s “unwanted advances,” which he claims resulted in “escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery, and professional retaliation,” per The Associated Press.  The actor said he met Perry while working at an event for Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta in 2019. Dixon alleges that the media mogul made sexually explicit comments and advances at that time, which he rebuffed.  The lawsuit lists several specific instances of alleged abuse, including what Dixon concluded to be threats over the future of his career. “Mr. Perry made it clear to Dixon that if Dixon ignored Perry or failed to engage with the sexual innuendos, Dixon’s character would ‘die’ in the next season [of ‘The Oval],” the document states, adding that it was “always held this over Mr Dixon’s head, implying that [his character] ‘Dale’ would survive if Dixon kept Perry ‘happy.’” “Dixon did his best to tiptoe around Mr. Perry’s sexual aggression while keeping on Mr. Perry’s good side,” the document says. During another alleged incident described in the lawsuit, the plaintiff claims Perry “forcibly pulled off Mr. Dixon’s clothing, groped his buttocks, and attempted to force himself on Dixon.” Perry’s attorney denied the allegations on behalf of his client, saying they were nothing more than a shakedown. “This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam,” Boyd said in a statement to AP. “But Tyler will not be shaken down, and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail.” Perry is a filmmaker, playwright, and actor who gained national recognition with his stage plays in the early 2000s, particularly those featuring the character Madea. He has written, produced, acted in, and directed numerous films and television shows. In 2019, he opened Tyler Perry Studios, a 330-acre production facility in Atlanta. Forbes listed him as the highest-paid man in entertainment in 2011, and in 2020, he became a billionaire, the outlet reported.

A group of Republican lawmakers asked EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin on Wednesday to look at the dangers of flushing the abortion pill into America’s drinking water, according to a letter first shared with The Daily Wire.  Led by Rep. Josh Brecheen and Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma, the lawmakers urged Zeldin to take steps to probe whether the byproducts of mifepristone were ending up in drinking water and negatively impacting fertility. They argued that the deadly pills were not only ending the lives of unborn children, but also contaminating drinking water, making it unsafe for all Americans.  “We recognize that the greatest tragedy of every abortion is the murder of the innocent. But we are also concerned that activist bureaucrats overlooked real public health risks posed by mifepristone in their crusade to expand abortion access,” Brecheen told The Daily Wire. “With chemical abortion now the most common abortion method in America, the public deserves answers about how these potent hormone disruptors affect our water supply and contribute to our nation’s rising infertility rates.” The letter notes that there were at least 648,500 medication abortions in 2023, and that many chemicals from the pills, meant to kill an unborn child, were ending up in the water system. The lawmakers said that since mifepristone is meant to disrupt the hormones of a pregnant woman that it could have endocrine-disrupting effects for the general public when introduced into the water system.  “If residual amounts of the drug and its metabolites persist in wastewater, prolonged exposure could potentially interfere with a person’s fertility, regardless of sex. We believe it is reckless to allow a known progesterone blocker to be flushed into America’s drinking water without knowing definitively if it impacts fertility rates,” the letter says.  Senators Cynthia Lummis (WY), Bernie Moreno (OH), and Jim Banks (IN) also signed on to the letter, as did 20 other House Republicans.  They asked Zeldin if the EPA believed mifepristone should be regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act, if the EPA had considered monitoring or regulating mifepristone, and if the agency had conducted any reviews of the abortion pill’s impact on drinking water. “Federal regulators are rightfully eager to study the health effects of many chemicals in our water and septic systems, but they haven’t examined the environmental and public health risks of chemical abortion drugs like mifepristone in those same systems,” Lankford said. “Scientific research on the health effects of water sources where there are trace amounts of a chemical that is designed to end the life of a child in the womb should not be controversial.” READ MORE: How A Leftist Network Of Websites Floods Red States With Abortion Pills With No Consequences The action was also supported by Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins, who said that the Biden administration recklessly expanded the distribution of the abortion pill.  “You don’t have to be pro-life to be concerned about endocrine disrupters in our waterways, potentially impacting our water safety, harming endangered species and our food supply, and perhaps even multiplying the rate of infertility,” she said.  Medication abortion has quickly become the most common form of abortion, making up over 60% of all abortions, according to some estimates. The real percentage may be even higher because of the amount of illegal pills that are shipped into red states that have technically prohibited all abortions. The Trump administration, which has pulled some punches against the abortion pill, took steps earlier this month to reevaluate the pill. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary told Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) that he would conduct a review of mifepristone and its widespread use.

There’s a popular meme that makes the rounds around this time each year. It shows a dam towering over a tranquil city. Behind the structure lies a burgeoning, rainbow-colored sludge on the verge of breaking through and flooding the inhabitants below. Inscribed on the dam’s face is a date: “May 31st.” It’s funny because it’s true. Or at least, it used to be. Rainbow paraphernalia, which was once visible only in a few metropolitan neighborhoods, has been taking over our common and commercial spaces — not to mention our schools — during the month of June for years. Fortune 500 companies changed their logos (at least in the West), stores set up expansive Pride displays and sold Pride-branded merchandise, including, infamously, Target’s selection of transgender swimsuits for children. City, state, and federal agencies hoisted the rainbow flag next to the American flag, and traditional and social media pumped out images and videos celebrating everything LGBTQ. But something’s different this year. Many of the businesses and institutions that used to radiate rainbows every June look a lot like they did last month and the month before that. They appear normal, as if their primary purpose were to provide services and sell products, not to advance a political ideology. To be sure, some progressive enclaves are still festooned with Pride trappings, and there remains dribs and drabs of rainbow propaganda out there elsewhere, but much of it looks half-hearted at best. Pride parades have been cancelled due to low projected attendance, and government buildings that used to fly the rainbow flag have stopped doing so — even in California. What changed? For one, there’s a new president, and he’s busy gutting “trans rights” by prohibiting men from usurping women’s sports and putting a stop to the poisoning and mutilation of children under the Orwellian misnomer “gender affirming care.” That’s a mighty blow to the “T” and “Q” in the “LGBTQ” coalition. To be fair, there are elements within the gay community that want nothing to do with the “T’s” and “Q’s.” However, it’s not clear that they can separate amicably or coherently. If the claim is that our sexual desires should have no normative connection to the reality of our physical bodies — which every letter in the rainbow acronym affirms — then embracing “LGB” necessarily opens the door to the “T’s” and Q’s” by relativizing the objective meaning and purpose of the body itself. So, taking on transgenderism at the political level will necessarily weaken Pride ideology as a whole. And for now, the administration has the upper hand. Second, corporations have grown skittish of boycotts after Bud Light’s disastrous promotion of the woman-larping man, Dylan Mulvaney. This one’s pretty simple: Bud Light used to be America’s best-selling beer. It isn’t anymore. More broadly, conservative activists like The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh, Christopher Rufo, Robby Starbuck, and others, have clarified the cost-benefit calculus for C-suites by putting a steep price on supporting Pride. It turns out that endorsing a radical fringe group that is big online but small in purchasing power while alienating half the country doesn’t make much fiscal sense. Third, and relatedly, there’s been a palpable cultural shift as the masses have grown tired of the rainbow brigade’s garish frills, manufactured enthusiasm, coercive fanfare (Celebrate!–or else), and infantile tautologies (“Love is love”). Initially startled and disoriented by the explosion of Pride into every nook and cranny of society, many have now had the time to step back and ask, “What, exactly, are we celebrating here?” Bearded men dressed up like clownishly risque women gyrating in front of toddlers at drag queen story hours? Pornographic books in elementary schools? Boys taking over girls’sports? Young men and women permanently maiming themselves with genital inversion surgery? Why in the world, normal people are asking, is any of this laudatory, let alone permissible? The rainbow flag used to come with the cry, “We just want to be left alone.” The majority found those terms acceptable. There was a truce in the culture wars, at least on that front. But then Pride, consistent with its name, got arrogant and greedy and let its true colors show. It turns out that all those LGBTQ parades, protests, workplace trainings, and school curricula were never about tolerance, or love, or protecting the vulnerable. Rather, their goal was to gain cultural and political supremacy and to silence anyone who stood in the way. Aptly represented by its ever-more-chaotic symbol, rainbow ideology is and always has been a twisted kaleidoscope of totalitarian perversion. Thankfully, many are waking up and pushing back. Rumors that Hulk Hogan is on his deathbed have been swirling after WWE legend Hulk Hogan was reportedly hospitalized following heart surgery. But his rep says this is not a life-threatening situation. The panic began after Florida radio host Bubba the Love Sponge claimed it was time to say goodbye to the 71-year-old. “If you did some sniffing around, you might find him in a hospital near you,” he told listeners on June 18. “And it’s not good. “I got some pretty reliable information last night that there are phone calls being made to various family members about getting to town to come say your goodbyes.” Following the report, a rep with Hulk Hogan spoke with TMZ Sports and confirmed that the icon had been hospitalized this week. However, he is only dealing with persistent neck and back issues. The rep also added that Hulk was already up and moving around after his heart surgery. According to US Weekly, a source said that “Hulk had pretty serious heart surgery a few weeks ago and was doing well afterward” before adding that “It wasn’t a near-death thing.” In May, TMZ Sports reported that Hulk Hogan had a minor neck surgery. The wrestler has dealt with back and neck pain for years. In 2024, he shared that he’d had at least 25 surgeries in the past 10 years.
