Chris Robarge shared via Facebook that he received an unexpected message from someone he used to rent from. In it‚ the homeowner explained that they’d been using the rent money to help pay off their mortgage. Now that they’d sold the house‚ the landlord enclosed a check for what they felt they owed the tenant. It amounted to $2‚500! “As a tenant of the property‚ some of the rent you paid each month contributed to paying off the principal of my mortgage‚” the landlord wrote in their letter. “I firmly believe that the capitalist tradition of retaining that money after the sale of a property is exploitative and antithetical to a just society.” Facebook The landlord went on to explain how they had calculated the amount in the renter’s check.
