Ford is cutting back production of its F-150 Lightning electric vehicle‚ a model that President Joe Biden took for a test drive to market his administration’s EV agenda. Ford made the official announcement that it will be reducing its F-150 Lightning output in 2024 amid slower-than-projected growth in EV demand. Biden test drove a F-150 Lightning in Michigan in May 2021 to promote his administration’s EV agenda‚ which aims for EVs to make up 50% of all new auto sales by 2030. “Ford is reducing production of F-150 Lightning‚ the top-selling electric pickup in the U.S.‚ to achieve the optimal balance of production‚ sales growth and profitability‚” the company announced on Friday. “Ford expects continued growth in global EV sales in 2024‚ though less than anticipated‚ and is preparing to launch next-generation EVs.” The company is not currently sharing specific details regarding changes in production volume for the model‚ a Ford spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation‚ but earlier reports indicated that the company could slash production by about 50%. “We see a bright future for electric vehicles for our customers who value their advantages‚ especially with Ford EV drivers’ access to Tesla superchargers beginning this quarter‚” the Ford spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “We are engaged with the regulators to help ensure the emission standards align with the market‚ and Ford will comply with the standards.” The F-150 Lightning typically costs approximately $50‚000 compared to the conventional F-150’s $36‚570 price tag‚ making the EV version considerably more expensive even with the help of $7‚500 consumer tax credits provided by the Inflation Reduction Act. The Biden administration is using enormous government subsidies and aggressive market regulation to push EVs on Americans. Despite these efforts‚ the industry as a whole finds itself in a tenuous position to start 2024: Ford and several of its competitors are losing vast sums of money on their EV product lines while executives are backing away from short-term production targets. Additionally‚ the nation’s charging infrastructure remains highly concentrated in coastal‚ densely populated regions rather than in the vast American interior as the Biden administration’s $7.5 billion spending blitz to build out a nationwide charging network has been slow to develop. The charging infrastructure that does exist‚ meanwhile‚ does not always function properly‚ whether because of hardware issues or weather conditions. Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter over the shooting on the set of his movie near Santa Fe‚ New Mexico‚ in Oct. 2021. A grand jury indicted Baldwin after previous charges were dropped in April. Prosecutors said they received a new analysis from the gun fired in the shooting and those led to the new charge against Baldwin. That analysis said that the trigger must have been pulled or depressed to fire the weapon‚ which contradicts Baldwin's claim. "The trigger wasn't pulled. I didn't pull the trigger. I would never point a gun at someone and pull the trigger on them‚ never‚" said Baldwin in his first public interview after the shooting. The gunshot wounded and killed Halyna Hutchins‚ a 42-year-old cinematographer who was working on the movie. Director Joel Souza‚ 48‚ was also wounded but only superficially. Baldwin was the lead actor on the "Rust" movie‚ as well as a co-producer and writer. Investigators said in Oct. 2021 that a crew member had told them he had failed to check all of the rounds in the gun before it was handed to the actor to rehearse the scene. "The facts are clear – a weapon was handed to Mr. Baldwin‚ the weapon is functional and fired a live round killing Ms. Hutchins and injuring Mr. Souza‚" said Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza.An involuntary manslaughter charge in New Mexico could result in a sentence of up to 18 months in prison. Baldwin has been very vocal about his left-wing political leanings and his hatred for former President Donald Trump‚ whom he portrayed often on "Saturday Night Live." A Missouri man became suspicious that his teacher wife was trying to poison him‚ so he allegedly set up a hidden camera. The surveillance camera reportedly caught the woman poisoning his smoothie with a potentially deadly plant. Sarah Scheffer‚ of Jefferson City‚ was arrested on Wednesday. She was charged with first-degree domestic assault‚ first-degree attempted murder‚ and armed criminal action.Over the course of six weeks‚ Scheffer's husband said he experienced multiple occasions of peculiar and debilitating symptoms. "The victim described eight occurrences in which the defendant provided a beverage or food that had an odd taste and shortly after ingesting he experienced extreme fatigue‚ confusion‚ blurred vision‚ severe cotton mouth‚ and nausea‚" the probable cause statement stated.On Jan. 1‚ the husband confronted his wife after she reportedly served him a beverage with a "bitter taste." Scheffer allegedly told her husband that she had urinated in his beverage. She then "admitted to putting an industrial strength adhesive in it‚" according to the probable cause statement. Scheffer allegedly changed her story once again and denied that she added any substances to his drink. Following the alleged incident‚ the husband installed a surveillance camera in the couple's kitchen. The husband claimed to have found a green bowl containing a root from a bag labeled "lily of the field" on Scheffer's desk. The hidden camera purportedly caught Scheffer preparing a smoothie for her husband. Scheffer added the contents from a green bowl into the smoothie‚ according to the statement.The husband presented the video to the police. Scheffer confessed to putting lily of the valley in the smoothie when confronted by law enforcement‚ according to the probable cause statement. "[Scheffer] admitted to adding a root of the 'lily of the valley' into the blender while preparing a smoothie drink of the victim‚" the probable cause statement read. "[Scheffer] admitted doing this with the intent to cause the victim harm... admitted to knowing that ingesting 'lily of the valley' could result in death... [and] admitted knowing the act was illegal."WebMD warns of the dangers of lily of the valley: "The lily of the valley plants are extremely toxic. All parts of the plant can cause illness when eaten. It is categorized as having major toxicity. The lily of the valley contains several compounds that can affect the heart. Scheffer has reportedly been placed on leave by the school following the accusations. She is no longer on the school's online faculty page.
