Canadian Born Country Artist, Josh Ross, Issues Apology For Saying He Moved To “The Best Country In The World”

This is controversial? Give me a break… A couple weekends ago, country singer Josh Ross performed at the Tailgate N’ Tallboys Music Festival in Bloomington, Illinois, where he took some time during his set to pay tribute to the United States and how much he loves America. Ross is from Canada and was born and raised there, but moved to Nashville over five years ago to pursue a career in country music. He has released singles like “First Taste of Gone”  and “On a Different Night” which have charted, and in March of 2024, he released his Complicated EP. During his set in Illinois which took place on Friday, June 13th, he waved a large American flag, and said he’s proud to have moved to the “best f****** country in the world”: “Fun fact real quick. I’m Canadian. You want to know the best fun fact? Is I moved to the best f******* country in the world and I love it very much. So thank you very much.” Ross and the crowd then broke into a “USA” chant, and that was pretty much that. Seemed pretty harmless to me: @amamabear324 #USA #America #Americanflag #joshross #tailgateandtallboysbloomington #tailgateandtallboys2025 @Angela ♬ original sound – Amber Nicole But recently, the video has been getting a lot of attention from Canadians and others, and many were NOT happy with his comments. I’m not sure why it seemingly went viral this weekend, my guess is that for some reason it caught traction considering everything that has gone on between Israel, Iran and the United States, and people flooded the comments of that video critiquing him for seemingly bashing (by omission because he didn’t mention how much he loved Canada, I guess?) his home country. Here’s a quick look at some of what people said on a video on Ross’ own TikTok account: “Been away from Canada too long, forgot how to properly say sorry.” “You weren’t wrong! Canada has become so sad!! You don’t need to apologize!” “Josh Ross, I’m trying to understand how you think what you said is not offensive to Canada. US the best Country in the world? I guess you have no idea what is happening around you. I do wish you well.” “You broke my heart. Yes, as Canadians we know how to apologize. But saying sorry doesn’t fix it. Your actions spoke volumes.” “Don’t worry about apologizing. Many Canadian don’t feel like Canada is “Canada” anymore, if you know what I mean.” “I’m a proud Canadian and feel lucky to live in beautiful Canada.” “Yeah… I don’t believe him.” “With the politics and views that the United States is representing and acting towards us as Canadians, Canadians are going to feel offended especially when a Canadian with a voice wants to believe and say out loud the United States is the best when many rights of citizens are being stripped. Knowing your audience is one thing, but remember that videos will be taken at all times and hopefully you learned from this mistake.” “Yep …that it’s definitely 100% offensive!” “Token apology.” “It seemed clear to me.” “Think it was pretty clear what was said and suggested.” “Please don’t say you’re representing Canada! It’s embarrassing! Please stay in Nashville.” “As he says he moves to the beat damn country, waving an American flag, chanting USA.” “Guess what…you have the right to say whatever you want because you are a US citizen & we are so happy to have you here! Saw you at the country fest and you were incredible!” “No need to apologize our country is a mess right now , and we should be free to say what we want.” Those comments were posted on the following video where Ross felt the need to apologized because of how upset people were, and he posted a video on TikTok explaining that he is “as proud of establishing myself in the U.S. as I am being Canadian.” He added that he was sorry it “wasn’t clear” he loved Canada as well: “Hey guys, I just wanted to jump on here and address the clip that’s going around from my performance at Tailgate N’ Tallboys. I’m sorry to anyone who is offended by what I said. I’m grateful I get to tour all over the world, and I feel like I’m always representing Canada no matter where I go. Born and raised in Canada, but have been living in Nashville for the 5+ hears. Half of my family lives in Canada, the other half lives here in the U.S., and I’m as proud of establishing myself in the U.S. as I am being Canadian. Both sides were not communicated in the clip that you guys are seeing, and I’m sorry that that wasn’t clear. Hope y’all have a good one. Bye.” Here’s the full video: @joshrossmusic♬ original sound – Josh Ross It’s just wild stuff like this gets to the point that he needs to issue an apology video on TikTok, but in the day and age of social media and people just taking things way out of context, I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised. The post Canadian Born Country Artist, Josh Ross, Issues Apology For Saying He Moved To “The Best Country In The World” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Billy Ray Cyrus’ Son, Trace, Apologizes To Jason Aldean For His Rant Against “Try That In A Small Town” – “Still Hate The Song, But I Want To Apologize”

Billy Ray Cyrus’ Son, Trace, Apologizes To Jason Aldean For His Rant Against “Try That In A Small Town” – “Still Hate The Song, But I Want To Apologize”

That’s a back-handed apology if I’ve ever seen one. Trace Cyrus has really been on a heater in 2025. For those that don’t know, Trace is actually the adopted son of Billy Ray Cyrus. His ex-wife Tish Cyrus had him, along with his sister Brandi, in a previous relationship and when they got married, Billy Ray adopted both of them. As a young child, he apparently used to look up to Billy Ray Cyrus, but since his mother and Billy Ray Cyrus separated, and as he’s gotten older, that luster has seemed to wear off. Prior to his recent anti-Jason-Aldean post, much of Trace’s criticism that he’s posted online has been directed at his father. After Billy Ray performed at the President Trump’s Inaugural Ball earlier this year, Trace posted seemingly from a place of love pleading for his father to get help. Trace’s tone changed big time in his most recent Instagram post about his father, in which he ripped Billy Ray Cyrus and called the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer washed up: “This man is so hungry for fame, it’s pathetic. He really flew to Italy for a fashion show but wouldn’t come to LA for Mammie’s funeral while he was still married to my mom. Even after his daughter got him a 60K private jet like he demanded, he still didn’t come even after the plane was paid for. You’re the lamest man to ever walk planet Earth. Honestly embarrassed to ever have considered you my idol. The best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode. I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I’m old like you. Christ is King. Get right with God. You need it.” Being open about his feelings is clearly not an issue for the son of Billy Ray Cyrus. If that’s not obvious from the above message that Trace directed at his father, then allow me to present another situation where the 36-year-old got fired up about something and immediately decided to share it with the social media world. This time around, when Trace Cyrus took to his Instagram story, Billy Ray Cyrus was not the target of criticism. Instead, country music star Jason Aldean was at the wrong end of a Trace Cyrus rant, and it all revolved around the 2023 song “Try That In A Small Town.” Trace is an artist himself, and he was evidently upset that his music isn’t getting airplay on the radio, and Aldean’s song is: “Guys, I was just sitting in my kitchen and this stupid song came on the radio. Remember this went viral? And everyone knows, like I’m as patriotic as it gets. I love Trump and America and all that, but listen to how stupid this is. Like, this is what’s on the radio, and the song (of mine) that I been talking about all night, like no one is really listening to. But like this is what’s popular.” Trace then went on to play a portion of Aldean’s controversial hit song, and proceeded to analyze some of the track’s lyrics while he was bashing it for getting more air time than his own music: “’Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk’… let’s hear this again, I don’t even know what… ‘Carjack an old lady at a red light!’ Okay bro, great job. Good job. You wrote a song brother. Wow. Congratulations. Claps for you. What the f***? I don’t know why the stupid station was playing that stupid carjacking on a sidewalk song… what station is this? Like 95.5, like replace that song right now with ‘On the Run,’ because that song is trash for real. I’m not trying to like completely destroy Jason Aldean’s soul right now, but no one wants to hear that on the radio. That is obviously paid for to be on the radio or something, and the fact that they shut down the Columbia town square to shoot that video, and I literally had my girl shoot my video on my iPhone and then I edited it myself and my video is cooler than his stupid video. Like, this is how dumb these record labels are, guys… They are still putting s**t like this on country radio and nobody wants to hear it.” Safe to say that Trace Cyrus is the jealous type. To be clear, Jason Aldean has certainly found favor with more Conservative fans lately, and it sounds like Trace leans pretty heavy that way too. He’s a big fan of Candace Owens and Joe Rogan, so I’d say that rant isn’t coming from a place of politics… even though “Try That In A Small Town” does have some political theming to it. It seems like Trace Cyrus is more fed up with the song than he is Jason Aldean, and that was made clear in his apology that he shared on his Instagram story on Monday…. if you could call it an apology. The 36-year-old artist once again took to social media to speak his mind, this time offering up a strange sorry and studio invitation to Aldean: “Yo guys… I still hate the f**king song, but I want to apologize to Jason Aldean. I really am trying to become a better Christian, and a lot of his fans were DM-ing me. I felt bad, so I’m sorry. God bless you. If you ever want to get in the studio and have me write a song for you, just hit me up.” Nothing like saying you hate someone’s song, only to then turn around and say you’d like to write a song with them if they’ll have you. To quote the iconic Pepper Brooks line from the movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, “that’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for ’em.” Something tells me that Jason Aldean won’t be jumping at the bit to get in the studio with Billy Ray’s son…The post Billy Ray Cyrus’ Son, Trace, Apologizes To Jason Aldean For His Rant Against “Try That In A Small Town” – “Still Hate The Song, But I Want To Apologize” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
